Hi Allie. I have been really enjoying the MALs. Some of the color combinations are ones that I have never tried before. And you are right, it is so fun!
Congratulations on 1 year, yes I love a mystery project but have a few presents to make for Christmas so don't have any time to do 1 ,you are truly a beautiful person inside and out thank you ❤
Thank you so much Margaret. I really appreciate your comment. (And totally understand how busy things are -- you are right that these weeks leading up to Christmas are going to get very hectic!)
Thank you so much! I'm happy that you are enjoying being here. The shawl was a nice pattern to make (lots of stitch markers for the first part, and easy sailing after that).
Thank you so much Rosanna! The blanket was a "speed knitting" project. lol At least, as fast as I could knit... (I was sooo behind on your CAL, and got that finished just in time to be able to send you the pic). Luckily, the pattern called for 2 strands of worsted held double, so I could sub the Toy Box yarn. That helped a lot. Toy Box yarn to the rescue! lol
Thank you so much Judy. I am very happy that we are friends... and grateful that Jeff, you, Angela and Dawn Aaron encouraged me . (Rememeber those first few months... especially those first few cringey videos? lol).
Don't know how you knew I just made a fresh cup of coffee, that's a mystery? Here's to you congratulations, I can see you have become a little more relaxed than you were a year ago.
Hi Rebecca. A fresh cup of coffee sounds wonderful and maybe a biscuit or two. lol Thank you so much for the encouragement... you are 100% right that I am a bit more relaxed.
Hi Cathy, I just can't think of anything I've wished was out there for crochet. There's plenty I want, haha, but nothing I need for now. Your CJ Brady shawl is beautiful. I love that blue.Your blanket looks so cozy! So we finally solved the mystery of the contents of the can - that was quite an accumulation. I pray the Lord multiplies it in Heather's hands and meets all her needs as she continues to heal. You sure do buy pretty yarn! Your TH-cam story and journey are inspiring. Like you, I was encouraged by my husband. I couldn't have taken the leap without his support for sure. ❤
Hi Christine. Thank you so much for your lovely comment about the CJ Brady shawl and blanket. I agree that we both are a bit shy, so being encouraged by our husbands is a real help and joy. I joined my prayer to yours (for Heather).
I enjoy progress keepers/stitch markers as well. I bought a hanging jewelry holder from Amazon and it works really well. Right now I can't really think of anything I would like for my crochet; I am blessed to have an abundance of everything I need. It was great to solve the mystery of the piggy bank; Heather (and her sheep) will be thrilled!
Thank you for letting me know that you found a jewelry holder on Amazon. At the moment, mine are in organza bags and I don't get to see them. The entire yarn community and viewers here have been so supportive! I'm so happy for Heather (and her sheep).
Hi Cathy. Wow, I am just in love with your crochet shawl, the color matches Judy’s bird she put up perfectly. It’s such a gorgeous color. I wish I could knit, I have tried many times and it is just a mystery to me why my fingers will not cooperate to knit. I am so thrilled that Aberdeen has been able to stay afloat. When I heard what was happening I went and purchased from them to try and help. I think the call out to all in this wonderful community did indeed make a difference. I’m so thrilled I can’t even put it into the proper words. It’s wonderful what you are doing for Heather, I wish her well and a quick recovery. 💜🧶🤟🏼
Hi Dianne. The shawl was a joy to crochet. (Needed lots of stitch markers, but otherwise not too hard.) I was happy to find the right colour of yarn at Mary Maxim. Those aren't colours that I usually put together, but wow it really taught me something about how good that shade of blue goes with black. I totally agree with you that it is such a beautiful thing & a relief that the yarn community came together to make a difference for Aberdeen and Heather. Oh, yes... about the knitting... I went to Marly Bird's channel and watched her videos about teaching a crocheter how to knit. Marly's videos is how I learned continental/picking style. So holding the yarn is similar to crochet. And she explains things in crochet terms. Not sure if that might be helpful for you, if you ever decide to give knitting another try?
@@YarnWithHeart YES! Thank you, Cathy. I saw today someone wrote up how to teach a crocheter to knit, and it too was also continental knitting, but they decided upon that due to how you hold your crochet hook and they teach you how to knit using a long Afghan crochet hook. Once you get the hang of it, then they have you graduate to using knitting needles. It was really a very interesting read and approach. It was in a magazine called “Blocked”, I just somehow came across it online and saw that. Marley has a good was of teaching, I will definitely be going to see her tutorial. I too don’t usually go out of my normal color ways, blacks, grays, cream, neutrals. But for the past few months I have really ventured far beyond the norms for myself in regard to colors and I have happily surprised myself and I am really enjoying it. Lovely to chat, look forward to your next videos. 💜🧶🤟🏼
Please do let me know how things go (with both methods, if you try them). I'm especially curious and intrigued about knitting with an Afghan hook! Have a good week!
I agree with you about the Halloween advent. A few of them caught my eye this year, however none of them were in Canada. The exchange rate being what it is, I just couldn't, at least not this year. Maybe next year?
Thank you so much Alice! This first year has been so fun... and I am happy that I took the plunge with that first video. Ball winder... one of the best inventions! Hope your favorite kind/type goes on an amazing sale in November. :-)
Hi Cathy! I like the words you chose to live by every year. I don't keep paper patterns. A large majority of my electronic patterns are stored in my library on Ravelry. I bookmark websites with free patterns and those stay in my Google account. Then I have some in e-mail attachments which I download as needed and store in my tablet. So far, it's working for me. I do like to listen to audiobooks while I knit or crochet, especially a good mystery book. So, you could say I do mostly everything digitally these days. Love that you are contributing to Heather and her company ❤
Hi Dimitra. You have great suggestions about digitally organizing things. I would like to ask Jeff if he can help me to do some of those things. It would really help. (I saw on your channel your support of Heather & Aberdeen Wool. I especially like the video where you show all the beautiful Berroco yarn.)
Thank you so much. That toddler blanket was really fun to make and I think it will be cozy in a stroller with the Toy Box yarn. I have followed Rosann for a while... maybe since October 2022? She is amazing and I absolutely love seeing the lapghans and blankets that she makes.
Yeahhhhh congratulations 🥳 ❤😊 it has been such a blessing to meet you, have you on my channel and become your friend. 😊 would love to join your make along. 😊 I would like to save for a big yarn bowl 😊 your shawl is beautiful such a beautiful mystery of how to wear it. . hugs my friend 😊
Hi Shannon. Thank you so much for your encouragement and your friendship! I really appreciate you so much (and the outreach that you do with CHEO is such an inspiration). Looking forward to the Blanket MAL on your membership! Much love and hugs, my friend...
Hi Cathy. It has been fun getting to know you. Your shawl and baby blanket are beautiful. I like to collect printed patterns also, I put them in page protectors and then put them into small binders that are labeled for shawls, sweaters, socks and gloves, etc. I also like to display my stitch markers, I use a large earring holder that I purchased at Joann's. The yarn you received in your mystery grab bag is so pretty. 😊
I enjoyed seeing the contents of the Aberdeen mystery bags in your earlier videos. A good mystery is always fun! I am saving up money to buy a couple of project bags. Right now, I keep my WIPs in the plastic zippered bags that sheets and Mary Maxim knitting kits come in.😊
Hi Alison. I'm happy that you enjoyed seeing the mystery bags... you are right about mystery bags being fun! Totally with you & understand about the plastic zippered bags (I have some with yarn in them). What a great idea to zipper WIPs in there -- keeps everything, including the pattern all in one place! Hoping that you find some cute project bags -- and who knows, maybe even in November on sale. :-)
Congrats on your one year. I'm so glad you stuck with it! ❤ its been an honor getting to know you. I learn about wish list items from watching others on yt and I've saved up for some of them. Mostly just yarns i have never tried or even heard of. But i had no idea about how many different kinds of hooks were out there. I would really like to try the clover amour and dots. Love the green baby blanket. Those minis are pretty.
Hi Sarah. Thank you so much, I am surprised about how quickly the first year has gone by. And getting to know you is wonderful too! Totally agree with you about crochet hooks -- and how many there are to try (the dots hooks are ones that I would really like to try too).
Your shawl is gorgeous and the colors are perfect! The minute I saw that bird I knew exactly what I would make and the yarn I would use. Unfortunately I broke 3 bones in my foot and can neither get to the yarn or sit at the yarn winder 😂 however now I know exactly what I am going to use that knit crate yarn for that's been waiting so long. Silver linings ❤
Thank you so much for the kind comment about the shawl. The colours are some of aunt's favorites and I hope that she likes her gift. I have seen videos, showing knit crate yarn, and it looked beautiful. Hoping that your foot feels better soon, so that you can enjoy your yarn again.
Hi Cathy My goal this year is to make my spare room into a craft room .So i am saving to buy a wall unit that has lots of boxes in it so i can put my wool in them and to keep crocheting . i like watching your channel because you come across peaceful and gentle and while i am sitting here watching i am sewing my granny squares together and oh boy those pesky yarn tail ends .Take care until next time .
Hi Mary. I am so happy that you watch while sewing your granny squares and weaving in ends. And I love the idea of your spare room/craft room. That would be such a pretty space. Have a great week, and see you on October 1st!
Life surely is a mystery! I just found your channel today and subscribed. Congrats on your one year on TH-cam! You are much braver than I! One way to display your stitch markers would be to knit a rectangle with copper wire. Use large wooden needles so the stitches are very open. You just leave the needle in the work and use it as the top border to hang the piece! The wire is relatively easy to knit with and makes an interesting background for the danglies! Wishing you continued success with your channel. Nancy
Hi Nancy. Thank you for congratulating the channel's one year milestone. Warm welcome! I am so happy that you found YarnWithHeart. :-) And thank you for the idea about knitting a stitch marker display! I have never thought to use copper wire for knitting/crochet and am very interested!
Hi Cathy! Very pretty makes today. Looking forward to next Friday to get the details for your mal. I had to back up to get the mystery word, we, you and I were cleaning the kitchen 😂. You are so generous in all ways, it’s truly such an admirable quality. I especially love that you make for people in need. I’ve enjoyed getting to spend time with you as well. Have a wonderful weekend! Forgot the question. Looking for something for my circular needles so they are accessible and labeled. I have a ton of patterns as well, I do the binder thing separated by type. I do a lot of dolls so they are separated by designer. For your stitch markers check the jewelry section for earring displays. See you Friday!
Hi Tami! It seems that I was a little lax at our kitchen cleaning. There might be a few dishes still to be put away here. lol Interesting that I also love that you make for others as well. (I notice that you make things that bring people joy. And even new outfits that people can purchase to bring themselves more joy on future years. That, to me, is really special too.) Thank you for sharing about pattern binders. And the earring display! Those are both great solutions!!! My circular needles are in 5x7 envelopes with the needle size and length written on the outside of the envelope. Then all the envelopes are inside a large zippered pouch that I bought at the dollar store. Not very fancy, but early days for me with knitting -- eventually I hope to find something more permanent. Have a good week & see you on October 1st!
Hi Louise. You are correct that there is a learning curve. I am not a technical person, and found that having a technical person sit with me for the first few times really helped. Please let me know if you decide to go for it. :-)
I would love to find the perfect storage unit for my yarn that works with my house. Not sure what it should look like, but I will know it if I ever see it. I love mystery boxes and enjoyed watching you open one each week this month. The shawl is beautiful as is the baby blanket. Love the colors of both.
Sometimes looking for the perfect thing is part of the fun. I hope you enjoy the search and it might show up when/where you least expect it! Very happy that you enjoyed watching the mystery boxes this month. It was fun sharing that with everyone... The colours of both projects pushed me "out of my comfort zone" and that is why I like Judy and Rosanna's MAL's so much. They really have me working with new colours and combining colours in new ways.
I am considering and sort of saving up for a complete set of interchangeable circular needles (haven't quite made up my mind yet.) Both your FO's this week are nice. At first it was a mystery to me how you were going to wear that beautiful shawl. Both ways are great. I was glad to hear you are thinking about making another one as you look lovely in it! If I had a shawl like that I would put a big, lush tassel on the long ends when it is draped down the back as it think it would give it a nice boho/artistic vibe. "Technical difficulties" when you were opening the can made me smile. How kind of you to do that for Heather with her recent challenges; you are indeed "YarnWithHeart"
Jeff got me a set of interchangeable circular needles one year for a gift. They have been working out well for me so far. What a great idea, to put tassels on the long ends of the shawl. That would be gorgeous! All of the viewer comments really did do great for Heather! I'm so happy that it worked out so well. :-)
Your shawl is so pretty! I like mystery books, but I couldn't take the stress of a mystery MAL since I like to see all the steps before I begin.😊 I would like a little roll up needle organizer for my DPNs for traveling, and I hope my daughter will sew me one in home ec for Christmas.
All of your makes are so beautiful ❣️ Can save written patterns to a flash drive. A DIY project to hold markers could be framed small-gauge chicken wire painted your favorite color. 🤗 🐔
Hi Deb. Thank you for the comment about my shawl and blanket. They both were fun to make and didn't take too long. I will need to ask Jeff about saving written patterns to flash drives. That sounds very promising! Jeff is my go-to technical guy... And I would like to try your idea about a frame with chicken wire. Sounds like a project that I'd like to try!
It’s a mystery to me how other people get so much crafting done. I’m so slow. I guess I would wish for more speed in my crafting. Though I don’t know if I would want to have to keep coming up with new projects. I really like the blue and black together in your piece. Because I almost never use inches anymore I was thinking, wait, how many inches are in a foot again? Then you explained about the 5 foot 12 inches. So clever.
I am the age that learned both metric and imperial (here in Canada)... but must admit that I have a tendency to switch back and forth between them. Very confusing, I know. The nice thing about crafting is that everyone can go at their own speed... unless something absolutely has to be done by a certain time. (If you absolutely have to have something done by a certain time, thicker yarn, like I used for the blanket really helps. I needed that one done by end of month, and in a thinner yarn it wouldn't have been finished in time for Rosanna's September CAL.) Mostly, especially with knitting, I really do like to take it slow and enjoy the process.
I can’t remember back that far if we had any metric at school. When I first came to Finland I was hopeless with metric, (so maybe we didn’t have it at school). Not knowing what the temperature or weights meant was difficult. And always having to add or subtract 12 to get PM times because they use the 24 hour system. Yes that’s true, when knitting slowly you can enjoy the process more.
Hi Cathy, I just found your channel today. What caught my eye was the blue and black shawl. Love that color combination. When I went to find the pattern for it I couldn't believe that I already had the pattern in my queue. Your colors made the shawl look so different. I will differently be using those color when I make mine. I love shawls by the way😊 Anyway love you channel and I did subscribe. I also follow Judy Creations. Congratulations on your milestone. Loved all the mystery yarn that you showed, they were very pretty. Now I have to go and check out some of your other video. Glad I found you. Oh, I use Raverly for my online patterns. For my paper pattern I have them in a binder but I need more room. There is an app call Pocket Crochet that Judy mention and you can link your Raverly patterns to it. I'm FranA by the way from Ohio.😊
Warm welcome! I'm happy that you found the channel and thank you for subscribing. That's wonderful that this CJ Brady shawl is in your queue also... Her patterns are great... and I hadn't tried making any of them until starting Judy's MAL last year. So far I have made three CJ Brady's patterns and all of them have turned out so well. Thank you so much for the tips about organizing patterns -- that is very helpful! It is so nice to meet you here Fran. I hope you have a great week!
It sounds like we are looking for the same - a pattern organizing system! Viewers have been so kind in the comments, and there are great ideas in the comments today. Looking forward to trying some of those. :-)
Thank you for letting me know. (I just did a quick search and notice that Pocket Crochet has a PC version and will link with Ravelry... those would both be very helpful features for me!)
That is so true about deadlines! I participated in a MKAL in the spring. I knew, going in, that I might not be able to keep up with the schedule. (Life happens, frogging happens... soooo much frogging for me. lol). Eventually, I tossed out the MKAL schedule and just knit the beautiful pattern on my own time line...
Hi Maria. The CJ Brady shawl was very fun to make (and I will definitely be making another). I am very happy that you found the channel and it is so kind that you took time to comment. Thank you! See you next Friday! :-)
Question -- Is there a yarn-related thing that you wish was available some where? Or one that you are saving toward purchasing?
I love the idea of picking crochet colors based off of book covers. Neat idea

Thank you so much Melinas. :-)
I am so glad I found you. This is such a great community.
I am so happy that you are here too. I love this community and getting to visit each week. :-)
Congratulations Cathy! I don't always comment but I truly do enjoy your podcast ❤ Your crochet shawl is stunning!
Thank you so much! I'm happy that you are enjoying being here. The shawl was a nice pattern to make (lots of stitch markers for the first part, and easy sailing after that).
I love your mystery video and all your mystery makes. Congratulations

Congratulations Cathy on a very successful first year. I am so glad you got up the courage to start your channel. Very happy to have become friends.

Hi Christine. Thank you so much for your lovely comment about the CJ Brady shawl and blanket. I agree that we both are a bit shy, so being encouraged by our husbands is a real help and joy. I joined my prayer to yours (for Heather).

And look at you over 500 subs! 600 here we come!!!
I am so surprised... Did not imagine that this would happen so quickly....
Congratulations on your first year! So glad Diane “introduced “ us. I may have to look into a mystery advent for later this year.
Hi Mary. I am happy that Diane introduced us too. Thank you so much for your kindness... A mystery advent sounds like a lot of fun!
Hi Cathy. Wow, I am just in love with your crochet shawl, the color matches Judy’s bird she put up perfectly. It’s such a gorgeous color. @@YarnWithHeart YES! Thank you, Cathy. Mystery(ies) are fun. A Halloween and or Christmas advent is something I would have to save for.
I agree with you about the Halloween advent. A few of them caught my eye this year, however none of them were in Canada. The exchange rate being what it is, I just couldn't, at least not this year. Maybe next year?

Thank you for sharing about pattern binders.
Here you are now. 🎉
I thought about it. I can't figure out how to edit videos and post them. Love the shawl.
Oh Cathy, it’s yarn on the hoof. I wish I owned a flock of sheep but, I’m much too old and couldn’t handle the work.😊😊😊
What a wonderful wish. You are so right about the amount of work. Farms take all kinds of resilience.
What a lovely gift that will be from your daughter! And a wonderful life-long skill she will learn in home economics.
@@YarnWithHeart I had seen the chicken wire DIY some years ago made to hold earrings and such. Can't remember the DIY TV show though. Have fun.☺️
Thank you Deb. I really appreciate this and will check for tutorials...
@@YarnWithHeart You're welcome.
I just finished my Mystery gnome.
I'm happy that you finished your gnome and I hope that you found it fun to make. :-)
As for storing patterns. I use binders with plastic page sleeves!😊
Thank you so much Christine! That is a great idea.
Oh dear. 24 hour system would have me all mixed up too! Yikes...
Late commenting, asI didn't want to enter the draw, although I did LOVE the minis ❤
Hi Diane. Hope you are having a good day, my friend. Thank you for commenting. :-)
I would like to try for the mystery.
Thank you for your comment Louise. :-)
I would like a better way to keep track of my patterns. I love a good mystery
It sounds like we are looking for the same - a pattern organizing system! Viewers have been so kind in the comments, and there are great ideas in the comments today. Looking forward to trying some of those. :-)
I use an app called Pocket Crochet for my patterns🤓
Thank you for letting me know. (I just did a quick search and notice that Pocket Crochet has a PC version and will link with Ravelry... those would both be very helpful features for me!)
I do not usually participate in mystery alongs because I cannot take the stress of the deadline.
My 1st time watching you! I will be back. Best to all with the Mystery.🧶 loved the CJ Brady shawl
Hi Maria. The CJ Brady shawl was very fun to make (and I will definitely be making another). I am very happy that you found the channel and it is so kind that you took time to comment. Thank you! See you next Friday! :-)
