How Kyrie Irving has Mastered the Change of Pace

  • Kyrie Irving is known for having the best handles in the nba. His control over the basketball is unreal as he can make any move to score the ball. One of the things that helps him is the change of pace. Kyrie is great at changing speeds to throw off the defense. In this video we break down how Kyrie has mastered the change of pace and how he uses it to score the basketball.

I'm 6'3...about Kyrie's height and let me tell you, that stuff he does is very, very difficult. I'm nowhere near the type of ball handler Kyrie is but the change of pace that he implements in his game is very elite. I tried to do this a few weeks ago and although I'm 35, I wasn't even 1/10th of his speed and I lost control of the ball. He HAD to probably start this at a young age (pre-teen years at the minimal) because if you watch his high school tapes, he's already doing his stuff you see today. It's footwork, knowing your body, and momentum then the handles come and adapt to the speed. He's played at a fast/change of pace game pretty much his whole life and not one person in the NBA can dance with him...and I love watching every moment.

At 44 and 6.2 I tried a few of those moves, I am damn slow and loose the ball almost every time. It still feels great just when it works once in a while. Switching the ball mid air to shoot from right of the basket to left of the basket is something I can't even try

As he controls his pace, he’s also controlling the defenders momentum.
4:39 if you watch on .5 speed, the defender charged at Kyrie full speed. While he was beginning his next stride, Kyrie was already standing upright. The defender stopped but his own momentum literally sent his legs flying. Kyrie then attacked to the left because the defenders momentum was still carrying him in the opposite direction. Kyrie was timing his movements the whole time, shits crazy 🤦🏽‍♂️

Yeah I mean there’s a lot of players who get away with that travel of picking up the pivot foot but thank you!

It’s tuff to say because he plays more like a shooting guard but plays point. But still one of the top guards in the NBA

@Paul George the media? Have you seen him recently? He has been legendary in the 4th quarter. I don't watch his highlights, I watch full games.

@Paul George nah I do think he is a bit loopy, but the main issue isn't with that. It's the fact that barring injuries, he's missed the last 2 seasons. And has a tendency to skip games.
