I hate to say it, but when you finally date a "best friend" one of you will end up hurting, probably forever. And the fact that you stay friends is probably that much more painful.
Take it from me. I was very close with a dude from 12-20 years old. We dated twice in that span of time, and always revert to the friends position. We both moved states, and still talk several times a year (fast forward, now we are in our 30s). Most of the time it's a good friendship still. However, I know that there are some conversations and days where he doesn't want to speak to me and there doesn't seem to be a reason for it.. The reason is because we dated. If you love your friend as a friend, fkn keep them that way.
