    Are all backpacking tents, specifically free standing tents, the same? While there are a lot of similarities with backpacking and camping tents, there are a lot of differences that make one option better than another for certain needs. In this video I discuss three different tent designs and what makes them the same or different.

    We bought the Nemo Dagger Osmo 3P in May & have been camping with it all summer. We love that the Nemo Dagger Osmo 3P doesn't absorb water or sag, lots of stash pockets, vents, & as you pointed out same width which is a big deal with equipment or having a bigger hiking partner.

    Thanks so much, Devin for doing this comparison! Your daughter is a hoot, LOL! It reinforces that I made the right decision to purchase the NEMO OSMO Dagger 3P for my husband's birthday present this past May. After my husband nearly froze in his Gregory Solitary 1P tent because of too much mesh causing the 60 MPH winds to blow on his head, he decided he needed a tent where there was more fabric behind his head while sleeping. We are hoping to try it out in a few days but set it up in our office and are extremely happy so far with the purchase. I really love the zipper configuration to be able to use one handed and secure the fly with the Gatekeeper door clips! I actually looked at the Sea to Summit Telos 3P but was concerned after I saw one bust apart in a strong wind. We already have the NEMO Dragonfly Bike Pack 2P tent but needed a larger tent for both of us since my husband is 6'4". I love the Landing Zone on both NEMO tents as it's a great place to put my backpack and gear without getting dirt on all of it.

    Great video. Do you feel that the Osmo fabric does everything they say it does? I've been interested in that tent for a while.

      Yes, I’ve been impressed so far. Way less stretch than on other similar tents.

      @@BackcountryExposure That is why my husband and I chose the OSMO fabric on the NEMO Dagger! I don't like going out in the middle of the night in a rain, wind and/or snowstorm to tighten the loose tent pegs when the fly gets wet.

    On the Aspect tent, you can unfasten the vestibule and roll up both doors. There is a not-so-obvious fabric loop on the left side that can be used to secure the bottom of the left portion of the vestibule when rolled up.

    If you already have an Aspect 2, like me, you can use the guy lines to "peel" back the other door to open things up more.

    Thank you for addressing the dirt, dust and spindrift coming in low mesh tents! I have a DCF mid that drives me crazy with that. Will be looking for a higher solid wall even at weight expense and such.

    Your budget will be the biggest determining factor in what your options are . I was looking for a larger tent and while I was interested in one's like the freelite and the tigerwall I just don't have the budget this year for them. Ended up getting one that cost me a 1/5 of the freelite, it's not as light but it's a free standing double wall with two vestibules and the quality is good. Already had a one person from the same company made of the exact same materials so I knew what to expect. Hoping to get it out this week 😁

    i kind of like that Nemo Dagger. Do You have a backpacking tent option that would actually fit 4 people. The only one I've been able to find is the River Country Products Trekker 3. Its tight but all 4 of us fit. Comes in at under 5 pounds too. I just know you see lots of different tent manufacturers and I'd love another option to try out.

    which company sells mattress covers?

    • @bathedinshadow
      @bathedinshadow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They aren't mattress covers. That's his sleeping bag. They make sleeping bags that attach to the pad. The only caveat is that it means the underside isn't insulated. It's thin like a sheet. People claim this doesn't impact warmth... but I find it absolutely does.

    Dude, I see you have your little girl in the video. I would love some advice on how to introduce my daughters to hiking and backpacking.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! First piece of advice is to just get out there. Go on some short day hikes, and make it all about them. Then move into some car camping and do everything you can to make it as comfortable as possible. I've found that just going out there, with zero expectations, and do it often and it just gets easier and easier.
      If it doesn't work out, there's nothing wrong with bailing and just going home. Better to ensure they have a good time, and see how you handle hard situations in the backcountry than just suffer. :)
