A funny thing happened to me here. When I captured the refinement along with one of the harvesters, a second harvester soon arrived and started mining tiberium at the upper left corner of my base. Well, I locked him in there with a sand bags. After that, the enemy was unable to mine and the attacks stopped pretty quickly.
Thanks A LOT for this! I was playing this mission for days, was about to give up entirely (even though I love the game otherwise), checked many walkthroughs and they didn't work for me, until finally today I saw this one. I'm not a very good RTS player (P&C adventurer at heart) so it never occurred to me to send some minigunners to distract the turret while the commando does his thing. I've managed to capture the base in my previous plays, but never with all three engineers alive, which led to inevitable waste of time and money later. One consequence of this was that I was unable to build the obelisk in time or even make it close enough to the river (didn't have money to build those power bases and silo), and that spelled my doom.
Thx for posting this, i reloaded my game like 30 times before watching this, i was getting so frustrated, going mad with this mission i thought i needed the artillery in the south to take out the towers but it was taking me so long to get them into position that the enemy airstrike was ready and he would destroy all my artillery in a bombing run never thought of using the infantry as decoys and using the commando
It's funny, really. Because the GDI mission where the Obelisk is first introduced has an Obelisk slaughtering a whole fleet of GDI gunboats, the Gunboat actually has special code to die to an Obelisk in a single shot... and that also applies to the Nod campaign :)
I'm playing this on normal and having the hardest time.. I tried an Obelisk the same way before watching this. But an air strike took it in one single attack and it was at 100%. What gives.. -_-
@@Xstioph Yea, you can use an Obelisk as quick way to take out the gunboat, but in general Obelisks aren't viable as long as there are airstrikes. So you just build it, take out the boat, and sell it again.
Got massacred doing it this way, but I wasn't distracting the watch towers with gunners. Found it much easier to take the bottom first, and take out the watch towers with artillery. Still the toughest level for me so far though.
Yeah, I used a not so friendly micro approach instead of using the artillery on the south shore. It's a lot faster tho and you can get rid of the gunning boat without losing any unit from your artillery platoon.
This one caught me the hell off guard when I attempted it on the PC. When I played this one on the N64 version, there was no gunboat, no second force at the top and there was a land bridge to the right guarded by guard towers and another land bidge right in front of your base. The enemy would use them to try to (hopelessly) flank you with a few infantry and the occasional mammoth tank. I always wondered why that empty spot was guarded by grenadiers and a humvee. lol
@@THEZOD Took me 50 minutes because of that...and the ai swarming my base blocking my only harvester (nearly dead), in one approach the airstrike just bombed my engineers, this mission was a pain, next time I'll do your approach. Also that friggin gunboat, sometimes ignoring units, other times just going to attack them. F.e. atacked bikes but ignored tanks. Really challenging mission. :-O
I got stupid lucky while going the "intended" way. The AI ended up obsessed with my southern artillery so they just stood there by the water as i sandbagged past them. In the end most of their army was just stuck there inbetween my bases staring at that one single artillery like it was the worst insult imaginable. They even trapped their own harvester in my base. Slowly over time small chunks would break away, but by then only obelisks and flame tanks awaited them. In the end only a single infantry was still standing by the shore. The artillery getting to fire the finishing shot.
I've tried dozens and dozens of times, the harvester never returns to base and the few times I do it he charges the soldiers at me, if he doesn't kill them the bombers do it, an impossible mission for me
I hate this level with all my heart. Even more than 7c and 11b. Sacrifice minigunners to c-4 the guard towers in the last minute?? I would have never thought of that. And I still don't believe that I can take out those grenadiers at the bottom. Of course, will try again...
So it's only the bazookas and not the gunners who'll shoot the harvester unprompted? I never noticed that; found it impossible to get everyone passed without a massacre.
Awesome, that sandbag trick and obelisk tower everything down is a nice trick. I love how challenging this RTS is, playing it back in the day I didn't think it was that difficult. Shame there is no RTS games like this out there now, it's just spam units rock, paper, scissors and throw everything at the enemy, where as this game really made you think about your approach.
Both 11 missions are a pain in remaster, my small force always gets obliterated by airstrikes and then of course you can't finish the mission because you can't kill the units on the other side... a bit of an oversite with the airstrikes no longer hitting the northern most unit. Even watching this I was like... why haven't your lower units been bombed yet lol...
@@THEZOD The biggest issue being that C&C is not good for squad level gameplay, given the lack of commands (ironic) and janky movement. You have to fight the engine's limitations more than you do the actual enemy.
The boat gets fixated on any unit it hasn't killed yet so if you lure it to fire at an artillery at the start and then park it on the South corner it won't attack anything else. Becomes a sitting duck to the bazookas on the shore. (thx felstead84 )
My god this is frustrating. Enemy harvester won’t dock it goes round and round the compound and runs everyone over even if they don’t shoot it. Been playing first six minutes of game over and over. Now the boat is attacking sniper whereas before it ignored them. Then aerial attack wipes out southern force before they can reach the mammoth tank.
Don't know if this is workable strat for most of the time, but you can "trap" one of the GDI harvesters inside your base by buildings sandbags around Tiberium Field. The second harvester will just do nothing. Anyway, thanks for all of your effort, i'm nearly close to 100% completetion on hard diffculty.
I was malding microing my minigunners to not shoot the harvester, then arrange them for the sacrifice in time. If they stood still one millisecond they shot it. Raged every time I heard the gunshot after a while.
Just force them to shoot the ground. It is stupid that there is no hold fire command though, or at least an option to ignore harvesters because it's a death sentence for infantry. Maybe with some mods...

@@THEZOD I was able to do it in the end. Got it to lock on to some of my units on the south side and had them make a mad dash to avoid getting annihilated. Lost one minigunner but it was worth it.
Yes, this is hard difficulty. The reason behind the gunboat inaction is that the gunboat will only target one direction (north or south) and never both at the same time.

This mission is nearly impossible :) It is designed in a way where you need to know events that will happen in advance. If you start with army in the lower right, you encounter a Medium Tank which stomps your soldiers. While you deal with the tank, ship arrives and clears your army away. If you keep this army waiting until you capture the base, planes obliterate this army with napalm :) Army is needed because they lead to some ore, which you really need. If you capture the base too quickly, soldiers can come with harvester, and harvester can enter attack mode, leaving you withou harvester if you capture refinery. So you need to, attack the base using micromanagement, killing humvee, tank, two towers, after that capture the base, after that observe the ship and attack with the bottom force... Not sure what is with the design of the missions objective, to torture the player... But these old games have that, like in Mechwarrior 4, there are some missions that are relying on a lot of luck on retries... This mission is hard even when following this guide, because there are timings in the map that you cannot see in the video and the OP knows about them. If it wasn't for this video guide, there is no chance I would complete Nod campaign...
Actually, I've just done it, albeit after days of suffering hell and having to check the beginning of this walkthrough. It is long and tiresome, but possible. It appears that, at least in my version (the one from The First Decade collection, patched to v1.06 (thanks, Nyerguds!)), the enemy AI gets really stupid in the later part of the mission and not only it fails to attack my harvesters properly, it also sends its troops to suicide. Anyway, as soon as I got enough money, I built two turrets to support the obelisk near the river, an airstrip and another obelisk. I placed the second obelisk at the top left corner of the base, the one with a tiberium field. The obelisk and turrets were impenetrable for the GDI forces and it gave me an opportunity to slowly build heavier units and send them to the center of the map, below the enemy base, between the two large tiberium fields. In this position, if you attack and destroy a GDI harvester, they will send lots of troops after you, so just run with whatever's left of your units straight to the base and let the obelisk and turrets do the job. Also, they will inexplicably send a huge amount of their units to the left side of the map, just to the north of your base, where your obelisk will beat the crap out of them. They will lose tons of medium and mammoth tanks with no damage to you. In my playthrough I received a lot of carpet bombing of that obelisk, but I had enough money to repair it each time. And for some reason, they very rarely attacked my harvesters, even when they were picking tiberium from right in front of their nose.
It is possible but ridiculously difficult even on normal difficulty... This and some other missions are a good example of how careless some of these developers are that they don't playtest their game properly.
