  • After a few years of work, I'm finally happy with how my kata looks. A passion project to be sure.

People hunk he’s lying but it’s legit around 14 pounds, some kanabo even got 30 pounds but people refuse to accept historical reality.

Usually 14 to 15 pounds. But the whole idea of it was to utilize its weight so some were even more.

@@solethunder111 it makes sense as a strength training tool. but not really as a actual weapon. like train with a 15 lb mace. then crush sculls with one and a half pound balanced weapon

@@fistofthenorthstar9010 IIRC the kanabo was not merely a weapon, but a portable battering ram for breaking down wooden gates or barricades, and dates back to at least the time of the Onin War. In an assault against prepared defenders I imagine that the wielder of a kanabo having the thing in his hands would have no time to drop the kanabo and draw their sword. So necessity being the mother of invention, it is logical to say the very least that like pretty much every weapon used during Japan's Feudal Period, formal techniques for the use of the kanabo evolved and became codified to some degree much as the use of the kama or the yari developed into formal schools all their own.

That particular one looks to weigh about 2kg, maybe 3kg. The one I own is a bit bigger than that one and weighs 3.6kg.
