So the Bush Company 79 Series Build is finally starting to pick up the pace. As anyone who has driven these vehicles in stock format knows, they are not set up to make the most of that lovely V8 engine. After doing a heap of research into possible tuning options, the choice was pretty clear.
The SFARI Engineering ARMAX Performance ECU is designed to work seamlessly with the factory Engine Control Unit resulting in more power, more torque, better throttle response, less fuel consumption and less turbo lag. This is all backed up by Safari’s sophisticated engine protection systems which are constantly live monitoring the vehicle for total drivetrain safety and ultimate reliability. The ARMAX ECU has 5 pre-calibrated maps for all user conditions and a plug and play wiring harness and vehicle specific mounting bracketry that made installation quick and easy.
The 'X Series' ARMAX ECU increases the open duration and the injection timing point of the fuel injector, allowing more diesel fuel to enter the combustion chamber. Due to the increase in fuel, the boost pressure the engine receives from the turbocharger is increased, optimizing the air fuel ratio.
This approach ensures the service life of the mechanical components in the fuel system are not influenced. Another Standard feature of the ARMAX ECU is the ability to change the throttle sensitivity, which is very useful when off-road. The 'X Series' ARMAX ECU blends seamlessly with the factory ECU due to its ability to sense engine load from multiple sources such as Engine RPM, Manifold Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Throttle Position and Exhaust Gas Temperature. From here the ECU very precisely calculates the engine load and accordingly adjusts the parameters to meet the pre-calibrated demand.
In addition to the SAFRAI ECU upgrade, we went with the 4inch SAFARI ARMAX Snorkel and a Fatz Fab HDJ 75/79 series airbox as a high flow alternative for the Factory airbox. The box has 4” inlet and outlets, with a 9” pod filter in either an 8 Layer paper element. To finish the job we installed a LEGENDEX 3.5 inch stainless steel exhaust with an inline DPF to keep it all legal.
The vehicle drives so much better now both on and off-road, and towing the boat or the caravan will be much easier.

Had the Safari package (including clutch upgrade) 1 year now.
No regrets at all, but in NZ there's a $750:00 certification cost on top. I like the idea of on demand power choice and mainly use it when towing. I'm interested to know how long your clutch will last.

i would say if its producing that much power the clutch would slip strait away
