This game was soooo good. One thing I've noticed that older games have that modern ones do not is gameplay and immersion outside of the actual flight model. Choosing your squadron info, receiving orders, going to the briefing, receiving medals and awards, etc. The Sierra/Dynamix games were excellent at this as well as the fantastic Gunship 2000 game.
I probably played most of the games released for Atari 8-bit, Amiga and PC DOS platforms...countless hours of gameplay and I still play the very same games 30 years later on original hardware and CRT monitor. They are still much more immersive than todays productions.
I'm 41 and still have no social life... and I still play Amiga and DOS games on my old computers lol... The pixel art back in late 80's/early 90's was and still is the best... Modern artists lost it, like we dont do medieval art anymore.
back when the manual was a book that contained real info about all the vehicles you'd encounter, the birds you flew, and the weapons you used with a short history on the Apache.
I still have the 1,44mb disks for this game. Good memories but apparently I've never really learned how to play the game. When I put everything on "realistic" I usually end up crashing my chopper sooner or later. Loved flying around with the AI comrades. Thanks for the video!
This game was the best, this, Dune and Dune 2 (westwood) was 80-90% of my pc childhood. Took me forever to figure out the controls and the disapointment from being forced to retire after 5 ( As I recall) campaigns was the worst, never made past colonel.
Crickey! This is the first time I've seen the PC version & to be honest I think the Amiga version looked better. It definately sounded better. Great game though.
4 years later came Apache Longbow from Digital Integration. That game was perfect mil heli sim in pre-3D graphics era. Not to be mixed with Jane’s version of the Longbow.
I have a joystick and a keyboard. With keyboard alone, you can't use the rudder/tail. With keyboard, the collective pitch is thru +,- which you just press and don't hold down. When you use the joystick as control, you're given keyboard/another joystick for second control (rotor/rudder). My problem is when you choose this, the collective that used to be +,- is transfered to the /joystick/keyboard tail control up and down. The problem is you have to hold it up, to mantain that collective, which is really absurd. So your holding up on the left stick for movement, and continuosly holdng up on the right stick so you won't go down, simultaneously pressing left or right with it to turn/.
+leorosa Try this: go to setup -> Miscellaneous -> set Proportional collective off. Works for me. You can also use Joy to Key program to transfer keyboard functions to joystick #1. Just set Collective/Rudder as keypad arrows. I'm assuming that you are playing via DOSBox :) I hope that this will help.
Lol, this game much harder than Janes Longbow, becouse AA missles lock and shoot u very fast. And flying at 30 ft dont make u stealth for SA-6 example =)

Between time spent playing this and x wing, it's a miracle I graduated high school.
Throw in TFX, Doom and Elite II to that list and you have my late teens.

Why can't we just have a modern game just like this???
Cause companies are after profit not quality
Helibourne and War Thunder for Steam are the closest games to this
Because its shit
Try the DCS titles and turn on Arcade mode, i guess that is the closest you can get.
@@bmbpdk and after 30 minutes get into simulation mode!
When this game came out I was a teenager, I had no girlfriend, social life or sex life. But I had Gunship 2000. That kept me going during weekends.
When I was 10, i didnt need a girlfriend or social life. Because I had PC with 40mhz 386DX and VGA card.

F/A18 Interceptor: Fly under the bridge!
Gunship 2000: Fly through a railway tunnel!
Gawd, I had this back in the MS-Dos days! Another classic that needs to be on GoG!

I consider graphics advancement like wealth.
When this game came out, we were poor.
But we were happy.
gunship 2000,black knight, retaliator,my fav games of that era
One of my favourite games.
Great game. Spent hours and hours playing it
Released 28 years ago today (December 5th 1991) in France for DOS.

I remember my friend said comanche is better, but i had no words back then to explain him what is arcade and what is sim.
Oh man, this game was the bomb!!!
Oh man the nostalgia.
Damn I loved this game!

Guybrush Threepwood ) Pirate or pilot?
Target Right Target Right Target Right Target Right Target Right
A definite contribution!
I see that the pilot playing is a fan of the game, "The Secret of Monkey Island. "

Loved this game...
Never played and it may sound like you're inside an MRI but fuck that looks tight.
Looks like less bugs than MSFS 2020.
where can I download? I love this game me and my father used to pay a lot together!
Try Google and the DOS emulator DOSBox.
Should have stereo/dual opl2 support
