I'm one of the older ones here. Was on active duty in the USAF when this came out. Spent many hours one this sim before the USAF even fully acknowledged its existence. Got addicted to this game and Red Storm Rising. 'Just one more mission' became my battle cry. Good memories. I still have the 5.25" floppies somewhere in my closet! LOL!!!

as a pilot, could you explain why he is flying so low? It is because to avoid some radars?

    • @EdOeuna
      @EdOeuna 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@warrax111 radar works in line of sight, so if the aeroplane is visual with the radar then the radar can detect it. Since the earth is a globe and the surface is curved then there is a shadow of the radar beam caused by the curved surface. Also, lower to the ground means planes can fly down valleys behind hills to mask themselves from search radar.

My dad would wake up at 2 am and caught us with the room door closed playing this game in the dark. I wish they had a modern remake of this particular game...THAT would be pretty cool. Kind of show what this game could be today. There are so many run and gun type games out there...would be refreshing to get into "stealth" mode again:)

One of my favorite games. Used to play it as a kid on my very first computer: a 386 SX. I didn't have the manual, so getting past the copy-protection was trial and error, until I started recognizing the planes. I got the Congressional Medal of Honor after one of the missions -- I don't remember much other than I finished all the objectives, did a fair bit of extra damage, had a fair bit done to myself, and barely made it back.

Truthfully, the reality was the F-117 Nighthawk. During the development of this game, the Nighthawk wasn't declassified and revealed to the public. Don't quote me on this but I believe the Nighthawk was declassified as this game was being released, and the developers created an F-117 3D model to swap with the old F-19 one so you could fly it in game.

Back in the day my relatives had this. My uncle cracked the copy protection so presumably whatever would have been in the booklet didn't need to be referenced in order to play it. I don't remember there being any other option than the shrill PC speaker. The shortcut to turn the engine sound effect off, (if I remember correctly) was CTRL-V ... Probably one of the first hot key shortcuts that I ever memorised!
I wish that I still had the copy of that cracked version - It seems that I lost it some time after 2009 when I last remembered loading it up. By then, it still had the save file campaigns with funny pilot names from when my Uncle, Aunts and cousins had created them some time in the early 90's. Good times...
Edit 14th Aug 2022 : I've just discovered that I still have this old cracked copy :-)

I remember I even copied the scenario files from this F-19 game into the F-15E directory and the F-15E game still was able to load and play the scenarios.
One of the differences between this game and the F-15E one was that the F-15E sim used a "Mirage F-1" model for the Mig-25 enemies (but actually the "Mirage F-1" model still looked like a delta-winged Mirage III-like model) whereas this game used a more proper Mig-25 model (actually it was shared with the friendly F-18's model, iirc).

These games taught me some English vocabulary, but I was a kid and know nothing about geography and aircraft, so I was sure that F-19 is a real Russian interceptor. I knew nothing about confrontation or Cold War. The USA was the country I would like to Russia will be someday. All the great things in my house were from the USA, Japan or Germany in those days. My Ukrainian relatives used to live in my flat for months. I myself visited Kiyv, Odesa, Sevastopol, and Mykolaiv with a lot of pleasure, nobody hated me and we spoke the same language. honestly, I bet Steam made at least some contact with the creators of this game and offered them some compensation. It is abandoned ware... it's so abandoned you probably can't even torrent it. It's so abandoned, that if steam offered $70 it's $70 they didn't have before. Good on steam for rebuilding this game, and good on kaglecom for advertising it so we can study it.
Before you go into hysteria, please absorb the notion that I don't care.

Slow the intro music down (try .75), and it will sound familiar...
"I want your love, I want your revenge,
I want your love, I don't wanna be friends!"... Freaky, right?
I remember playing this as a kid over 20 years ago and that part always sounded raunchy to me. I think my PC ran it kinda slow, which is why I knew to slow the video down.

Used to go to 60,000ft & launch a Harpoon. I'd then hit missile view & fly about in front of it for a cool view....and damn that SAM site at Pechenga!

Also, for landing. Learn to fly the pattern, it will make landing much easier. All runways in game are aligned 000/180. Approach runway from 270/090. Turn to 000 or 180. Fly till runway is 45 degrees from you. Turn to 090/270. When runway is about 10 degrees from you, turn to 000/180 and youi'll be aligned at center line. Make sure ILS is on, intercept glidescope and keep your speed between 180 to 200 knots and follow glidescope in. You'll hit the perfect landing every time.

Thank you, makes sense now. The copy I have came with my 486 and is probably version 435.01.
Superb flying by the way! I'll try your tactics to see if I make it through a mission on that difficulty

I bought, from STEAM, F-19 Stealth Fighter, I installed and tried it. I must add that I also own a version for AMIGA, bought about 25 years ago! I remember that I could do all the missions in every scenario, even at levels of "ELITE" opponents. In this recently purchased PC-DOS version, I found how impossibly difficult it was to get the same results. In particular the very high number of enemy fighters in flight and, in the most difficult levels (veteran or elite), already directed on my plane, even if I had not been tracked by any radar! At the "elite" level, although many devices can be implemented to avoid detection, sooner or later they are discovered and tracked. Well, in the version purchased by me on STEAM, from that precise moment, no less than three to five enemy planes fly at a time. If I can shoot one down, at least 3 of them will appear in its place! In the end, you can also shoot down 15 or 20 enemy planes but always having at least 2 or 3 behind to threaten you, and this for the rest of the mission. In particular in the Persian Gulf missions, like those in the video, already at the moment of take-off, almost on Kuwait City, there are already 3 enemy interceptors in aggressive patrolling! Obviously in such circumstances we can not resist for long. I also tried to hit the air bases, from which I hypothesized that the enemy planes could start, but it was useless. Always remains at least one enemy air base that, even very far from the battle site, always manages to send us an abnormal number of enemy aircraft. Now as the fuel is consumed much faster if you are engaged in the air duels, after about 10-15 minutes of these fights, you can find out how already more than a third of the fuel has been consumed, while you remain very far from hitting both the primary target that the secondary one of the mission. Hence the impossibility of completing any "elite" mission in any scenario. Do you think that, I tried for an entire afternoon to complete an "elite" mission, just in the Persian Gulf scenario, well until late at night, even if I changed many tactics, I could not have any positive result. Once discovered, it was always the end! Now, since I can see how all the aggression that I have experienced, in this video ... there just is not, I have to assume that it is different versions or ............. that I am a particularly unlucky person !!!

Alt-V turns off first engine sound, second press will turn off warnings and third will cancel all sounds. My best score was 1903 in Europe with Cold war Air-to-Ground mission. You are only credited flyinf over enemy territory, so avoid flying over water when possible. And you have to load camera and 3 extra tanks to reach real high score

Pro Tip, to get a nice high score and the Medal of Honor if you dont't have it: Set to Persian Gulf, Cold War, Strike MIssions and Elite or Veteran opponents. Get airstrip mission. Land at airstrip. Taxi to end of airstrip. Leave and go sleep for the night. Come back. Fly rest of mission. Enjoy your massive score.
