With more time at home, I felt it was time to do a living room makeover! I've been a full time vintage reseller since 2012. These are some of my favorite thrifted finds over the years.

Love your living room. And I think your teal sofa and mustard yellow chair compliment each other beautifully. Especially with your new avocado green rug in between them. They all slide right along one side of the color wheel. Gorgeous.

Betty J. That’s the biggest compliment! I love when I go to someone’s home and it’s beautiful curated but feels real and authentic to them. When I go to someone’s home that looks like a magazine spread and it’s all brand new it feels cold to me. ❤️❤️

Hi Laura - I know that you have spoke in another video of moving from your home some day - but I would NEVER want to leave your house - your kitchen, basement, bedroom, EVERYTHING is SO COZY AND BEAUTIFUL!!!
@@leftcoastrevivals my cats are naughty. They climb over everything eat plants and my big boy pushes things (or sits on them) out of his way. Yeah i yell and 20 minutes later they are doing mischief. I had to throw away a couch that i bought a few years ago from Salvation Army that was from The 20s or 30s 1900s. My boy made hole on bottom and pulled out horse hair stuffing and burrowed himself cozily inside for his afternoon naps. I don't know how to maintain my stuff other than not displaying it.
It is quite creative, isn't it? Just borders on hippie but not... I don't know what word to give it. Not eclectic... not antiquey but so classy. I guess you have mastered a style that is all you. Bravo young lady. Bravo. Hard to impress me but you have. I ABSOLUTELY love just everything & especially the way you have merged it all blended it all together. How did you learn to discover a true treasure when you find them like say the cat? It is cute, but obviously it's more than just cute. Did you go to school & study art antiques?
It looks very chic, designer yet very lived in , comfortable at the same time! Great job! You have an eye for design!
You thrift for all the right reasons: history, aesthetics, textures. Most of all, you have a talent for putting it all together. And best of all, you don't go running for the chalk paint to neutralize and take the character out of the piece.

$30 for that huge rug?! They way you were saying people didn’t want to fork over the cash for it made me think it was going to be several hundred dollars. You scored big time on that rug!!!

Last week in central Wisconsin, we had days of sub zero weather. I had so much fun “shopping”, or rather unearthing treasures stored in my basement, and various closets in my house. I put together a gallery wall in my hallway from all of the original watercolors I had bought while thrifting in the past. I found better ways to display some of my pottery collection and each day, I found I woke in the morning with a renewed sense of purpose.
While I listened to you talk about your finds, I thought, “ this woman speaks my language”which is the language of thrifting! I love your couch and the mustard chair! They both have a very unique style.
I personally love all the different colors, way better than shades of white and beige.🌈😁
You have such a talent for "putting it all together" in such a pleasing matter. So nice to see color and not just white and gray as so many have these days.
I am so grateful to have found YOU (and completely by accident!!). While still residing in San Rafael ( Marin County) I, very organically found my way to our local Goodwill which had some of the most incredible treasures. I was able to find my dear (high school) friend an original M.C. Escher drawing. I presently have a Pottery Barn ebony (painted?) wood map drawer coffee table that, when I last checked, retailed for $600. I paid $25 for it. A Zgalerie, wide, plush, chair w/an elephant tapestry fabric on it. A solid wood, men’s chifforobe w/ double upper cabinet doors (1 big interior shelf, 2 drawers) and 3 large bottom drawers....you’re joy at what you do has me nostalgic for my days of tracking down beautiful pieces, as well as clothing, art items, keeping as treasures for my home and, sometimes, reselling. Seeing your video makes me feel more confident, and less dysfunctional, about my design and decor choices. Thank you. Gonna be pulling out some beautiful art pieces by Herbie Rose and having them reframed!
Red is good for a hallway if you’re into calm. It awakens and excites, then the calm is greater when you arrive into that room!
Finally!!!!!🙌🏼 Someone that understands me and my process (that never ends) for design and my eccentric eye. I swear you’re THE FIRST one that summarizes what my mind looks for and doesn’t present things like 99% of everyone else these days....with neutral matchy “boho/trendy/plant” decor and alllllways the white walls. SO HAPPY TO FIND YOUR AMAZING CHANNEL!!!!!!! 🙏🏼
Love everything and yes, that mustard chair does go with the teal sofa because the chair color is actually a neutral color. You have all the brass. Gold in pictures, etc. all around the room. What lucky to have found all the specials things that you’ve wanted. Great job!

I like that retro wall clock. I would hang it against a white veined marble feature wall, and that with those mustard toss pillows would look grand!
I think my favorite thing in this room would have to be how happy it makes you. You have this beautiful glow when you talk about your finds. If I had to pick a material favorite it would be the teal sofa hands down. I love the style and color. Another really good video!

The Teal couch and yellow mustard chair looks beautiful together ! You should have 0 regrets having the 2 of them in your living room, they're a great color complement and the green rug ties it together like a dream!

Aloha Laura, I have literally been feasting on TH-cam decorating videos for the last two months as I, like everybody, have been holed up in my home. I found yours today and must say it is literally the most delicious one I've viewed so far. Perhaps because I am not minimalist, more of a Middleist LOL, but do like my "stuff." And not a big rule follower either. It's fun to create. And recreate...and recreate some more! I am smiling at your vintage and mid-century finds. Why? Because I'm 72 and grew up with lots of the furniture you so delightfully found. Back then...it was just what we had, which wasn't much. I didn't even know about the term mid-century until last year and boy did I feel old when I heard it. It also makes me sad that when my parent passed we donated many of their beautiful Danish Modern furniture to Good Will. When I see the prices on these items now, I cringe with regret. You have given me a new appreciation for many valuable items that one can find in thrift shops. Thanks again! I look forward to more!!! :)

I miss thrifting sooooo much! Your place looks beautiful. My entire home is also completely thrifted. Seriously, why get something at IKEA when you can get a quality piece for usually less than half the price AND it's one of a kind AND you don't have to build it? Ha! Love it! :)
I’m like you, I thrift everything in my home and I have some beautiful pieces that I bought for pennies on the dollar. It’s the only way to go!
Laura I grew up with a majority of the things you find. It is nice to see the younger generation discovering past things and their uses. The red rug is lovely, but, that green one, oh, my, that is superb. Did make a big difference in your room. Love your couch also. Watched your new home video, cannot wait to see what you and your husband do there.
I was at an in person auction 3 yrs ago. A gorgeous warm yellow pottery barn (8ft) couch came up. It was in excellent condition. In general, people only bid if they want something, not to hassle others or inflate prices. A woman walked in, very chic, very expensive. She stood out like a neon light in an empty desert. She sat on the couch, stretched out and got a look I would not recommend for negotiations. But it was an auction, she quickly put on a blank face. The bidding started got to $100 and she won. She looked stunned, I smiled, most people smiled, she got a big grin. People congratulated her warmly, after a surprised look she said “Thank you”. I remembered thinking she looked like she want to hug the sofa. Reminds me of you hugging the cat. So much joy and happiness!
I saw a similar Lisa Larson cat in a Crazy Lamp Lady video at an outdoor flea market laying in a box of junk and She went right past it. I was screaming, the cat, the cat!
@@svietka202 No, I saw it on a YT video I was watching put out by the Crazy Lamp Lady. She was at a flea market and it was laying in a box she walked by in the video. She sells mostly vintage and antique porcelein items.. It was in Pennsylvania. But I look for one like it everywhere I go thrifting. Love your show!
Shamefully, I didn't know who Lisa Larson was. I do now, I'll be on the hunt for a cat like that!!!! When things open back up, that is!!!

Two years ago, I found a big cowboy oil painting at a consignment shop. I spotted it right away. (I live in Arizona). And I knew it would look nice in our family room. Well, when I went to the register to pay, the lady in front of me kept looking at it. At one point she tells me “I like that painting. I was about to get it.” I smiled at her and said “i like it too.” She kept looking at it and judging by her look, I can tell she deeply regretted not buying it.” I love thrifting too. But I wished I did it more often. Anyway, your house is lovely. You have a talent. Thank you for sharing. I learned a lot. And by the way, your pets are so cute. I have three black cats. Siblings. :)

I think I might be a little obsessed with you. So many of your pieces, I grew up with. But trust me, they didn't look the way that you've put everything together. You really have an eye! I love how excited you get when you find a special piece. That couch for $500.00, looks like a million!!! Your living room looks very elegant and "put together, but it still feels like you want to curl up on that couch and have a cup of tea.

I am in love with the teal couch and green rug!!!! Since I have been home, I watch too much You Tube, but, I have learned to macremae!!! I have several pot plant hangers now. On one, I repainted the pot, add fake succulent, my old rope macremae hanger I made and rocks. It looks so real, and I learned a new craft!!! Wall macremae next. Still working on getting materials together! ♥️

I loved absolutely loved this video although I already seen a lot of these finds I loved seeing them again and hearing all the stories behind them. I love everything, but I have loved your gold velvet pillow with the black pom poms for so long, I had to make one for myself! I was very patient and searched Goodwill and other thrift stores for a dress made from gold velvet for months. I finally found one, paid $6.99, cut it up, bought the pom poms and voila. A beautiful rectangular gold velvet pillow doe my couch. I love my Laura pillow! I'll have to send you a picture. Thanks for inspiring me so much.
Nancy Nucci I have found that I will cover pillows with sweaters that I love. And have kept dresses and skirts just for the fabric for pillow making. Have a skirt I made in 1978 that makes beautiful pillows....my sister couldn't believe I still had it...she helped me hem that skirt. But the fabric is still gorgeous.

Favorite find: the couch. I would flip the mustard chair and rocking chair. The rocking chair kind of gets lost so close to the credenza.

Love the green rug there. Love also your emphasis on animals and nature. All the items you select and placed around are perfectly suited in color, texture, style, substance, and period for a cohesive eclectic look of vintage elegance. The mustard-Amber chair really works in that room because it was a very popular color in that era, it balances the warm glow tones to that side of the room (opposite the golden pillows and picture frames are on the other side) and the style is perfect. Maybe a small teal & green silk pillow could go on it for integration with the sofa and distract from the amber (if you're not thrilled with the color as you said).

That’s my goal, everything thrifted. I have a Barbara Barry sofa I thrifted. It was 1800 and I had put it on layaway and when I went to get it it was a 75% off sale day and they honored that. So I got the side chair that matches and paid like $550 for both pieces. The sofa is gorgeous 92” suede and twill and down filled. I have two lamps that I wish I knew who they are by but I live them and looking for art now. I love your mustard chair and the credenza.

Due to some unimaginable circumstances, I have my mom Bible, a few handwritten recipes, a bundt pan and that's it, that belonged to her. I'm shaking right now. I love your living room, its so cozy, fun and eclectic. Mustard yellow and teal is so freaking beautiful together. It can almost work like a neutral. Next time ask for a price. I got a rug that size at the bins for $5 last year cause I ask the lady in charge how much cause I didn't want to pay by the pound. My daughter even haggled on a furniture set. She only got $20 off it but that was something at least.
Haggling at a shop where all the proceeds go to charity is a bit off.
Not everything goes to charity most goes to employes. Besidescthe people who shop in goodwill are the ones trying to furnish on a budget
The choice of the green rug was just what your space needed.
We had that clock in the 60s. I was born in 1963. And our clock like that one hung over the stereo cabinet in our dinning room, my living room is long like you. I have trouble making it work. But this is giving me ideas. You are very talented. I dyslexia too. But I enjoyed reading until I became disabled. I’m going to sell a lot of the things in my house. We are in a small country home, we downsized. Coming from a big suburban home. It’s too much stuff. Someone will buy them and enjoy them. I love your couch my grandchildren are competitive swimmers. Oh wow that rocking chair is gorgeous. I would have run for it too. Yes it’s worth the wait. I really love your style you remind me of my daughters. And my mom says Selena reminds her of me. But I am no way near as beautiful as her. Our family are pickers. The coffee table at our shed cabins came from the curb. It had lots of kids greasy handprints on it. But turns out it’s worth about $320. So I love that I grabbed it off the curb. Take care, leslye

80% of my home is thrifter. Mostly because I love the hunt.
100% of mine is. The only new items I own are my laptop and camera. All household items came from auction or thrift stores. And it's way cheaper her inn the Midwest than what she's paying. My couch is a mint condition flexsteel camel color for $5. An older couple with no kids had it. Looks brand new.
@Lola Montez the couch I bought is not vintage. It's probably late 90's early 2000's. They likely bought t then passed away shortly after. Point I was making is the price. . My pace is a mix of 1970-80's to around the mid 90's. I know they pay more on the East coast. I used to see prices in magazines. I was thinking I should haul it there to sell! lol I'm older and disabled now so not buying much anymore .Downsized a few yrs. ago. But I sure miss the hunting and buying.

Love your mid century modern living room. I too am a thrifter, of antique furniture & accessories. People are amazed when I tell them it's all from the thrift store.
Before I started sharing my home on TH-cam, I think most of my friends thought I had really terrible old thrift store garbage in my house... sadly most people still turn up their noses to thrifting and vintage.
I have two things that you have in this video. One is the swan painting behind the couch. I don't recall when I bought it, prob. 30 years ago, and it's hanging at my mom's house. Also, the small flat, metal Etruscan horse. Now I see them in lots of thrift videos. I bought mine in Greece in the late 70's, (along w/ an Etruscan warrior dude, and a brass tray and small coffee server). That was fun to schlep home, in my already heavy, non wheeled luggage. lol

p.s. My favorite item in your living room is the green rug. I've been looking for a huge rug for years. Problem is they're so expensive bc I've been looking at new. So between yours and Selena's showing us all your thrifted finds and the main thread is to be patient. So when all this craziness is over you 2 have given me the inspiration to keep looking for a vintage rug that I love.
