Bowler is a good fannon name for this guy. I only ever saw him being officially referred to as just "The Diesel" or "Class 40". As someone who used to rewatch Mad Bomber over and over, this guy will always be named Andy in my headcannon.
Although I will say that I’ve always hated the idea of engines having faces on both ends (except for Mighty Mac since both faces have their own personas) I still think this is an amazing custom. You did a great job here.
What a wonderful model, I saw this literally all the time with other custom model showcase videos, but I really want to make my own for g scale someday.
It’s funny that you bought the Lima version of the Class 40, because Hornby would actually go on to buy Lima and inherit all their model molds/toolings, including this one and would reuse them for future releases, including Thomas models. In other words, the Hornby D261 is in fact the same mold/tool of your Lima Class 40, so you got the exact same model at a far cheaper price!
Yo i really fux with this. such a simple custom but completely changed it from an outdated model to a fully functional character that fits right in. loving it lance.
That is quite an impressive custom model. I remember making a custom Wooden Railway Flying Scotsman model using a Gordon from eBay. It wasn't that the actual model was expensive (I actually have the original Wooden Railway Flying Scotsman from the '90s), but because I really wanted to have a Wooden Railway model of Flying Scotsman based on what was shown in the CGI series, but since we never got that, and since they never released the Thomas Wood Flying Scotsman, I took matters into my own hands.
What kinda funny is that not only is 1: the hornby model uses the class 37 tooling (i know one or two people already covered this lol), and 2: lima did actually make a model of d261 in br green! Lovely custom btw! Love the sort of army green shade of paint you used!!! XD
I have a Hornby Bowler. I think I paid $180 for mine a couple years ago. But the Class 40 model does look way better, but I’ll still forever enjoy the Hornby one.
I had a feeling that you were going to upload something like this during the weekend! I really like this as a big Class 40 fan in general. I actually think it is criminal that they were withdrawn that early in the 1980s. My favorite feature is the use of the interior lights! Something else I may have to try for myself. I actually have a Hornby Class 40 and a Bachmann Class 40 (the latter of which is numbered D325, the Pre-TOPS number of 40125 aka Old Stuck Up) both from Hattons. I will say that even though Hornby does a good job with the Lima tooling for their Class 40 models, those Class 40 models made by Bachmann Branchline have a lot of finer detail that makes the model very impressive to look at.
D261 is probably one of my favorite diesels in the entire series. This is due to a combination of what we officially see of him in the show and the potential I think he could’ve had if he returned. From what we see, he’s a pretentious, classist jerk Who talks down to the other engines. But what I find fascinating is the fact that, unlike someone like Diesel 10 Who outright hates steam engines, D261 comes across as a guy who has just been told his entire life that he’s perfect and has unfortunately developed a persona to go along with it: “Not bad, I’ve seen worse. At least you’re all clean. It’s not your fault, but your Sir Topham Hatt should scrap you and get engines like me.” Again what he saying is horrible, but it doesn’t sound like he outright hates steam engines, he’s just repeating what he’s been told his entire life (as short as it’s probably been.) He’s definitely a victim of his environment. He’s bought into all of BR’s misplaced hype about the future of dieselization. which is ironic considering, despite how much BR says diesels are the future, D261 quickly showcases that they still have a couple teething troubles. After that he returns to the mainland and we sadly never see him again. I can’t help but imagine that after this event, he easily could’ve been humbled by his experience. Sure he’s angry about the incident at first, but he’s experienced firsthand proof that diesels aren’t as perfect as he’s been told. Combine this with the fact that many of the non-canon magazines stories show D261 working on the north western railway, I think there could’ve been potential for him to have a story arc where he redeems himself and learns that anyone can be useful: regardless if their steam or diesel. But even beyond that, even if you only go by his one story appearance in the show and books, he just seems like a fun character to write for. He’s not some conniving mastermind, he’s just some jerk with an ego. It’s almost like writing a more antagonistic version of James. Anyway, sorry for the paragraphs worth of comments, I just think D261 has a lot of potential and it’s a shame he only appeared in one episode despite his model being in good condition.
Looks pretty good. You were better off making your own especially with the ridiculous cost just to get the Hornby one. The Hornby one while reasonably TV accurate (Colour Wise/Face Wise) is let down by being based on Class 37 Tooling since they didn't have a Class 40 to base him on at the time. It's a pity Hornby didn't do a new version of "The Diesel" based on the Class 40 they currently have in their Railroad Range; that Railroad model in itself was inherited from Lima when Hornby bought them. If Hornby done that "The Diesel" would finally be 100% accurate to the TV series. Of course with Hornby moving away from the Thomas Range altogether it'll never happen now.
Not to forget that these other characters that were Hornby-only releases are also STILL hard to obtain due to their availability and pricing: Stepney, Murdoch and Bear.
Bloody brilliant man! You did an amazing job here, on a second note what is that Nintendo music you use I know it but can’t name it and I’m going insane!
Bachmann makes class 40 diesels, so if Mattel will let them, they might reuse the class 40 tooling to make D261 and D40125. The only modification would have to be the addition of an eye mechanism.
The Hornby Bowler is inaccurate at it's made using a Lima tool of a Class 37. Hornby hadn't acquired the Class 40 tooling at the time they released the model in 2003.
Hornby's D261 model is actually a br class 37 diesel, not a class 40. That could be understandable as hornby never made a class 40 at the time, or they could've reused a lima tooling for the class 40.
i know you probably don't care for roblox recommendations but there is a cool and beautiful game called sodor 1955, and a funny thing is the class 13 arry and bert joke you made is actually in the game
Bowler is a good fannon name for this guy. I only ever saw him being officially referred to as just "The Diesel" or "Class 40".
As someone who used to rewatch Mad Bomber over and over, this guy will always be named Andy in my headcannon.
andy will forever always be my class 40’s name
I like referring him by his number D261
actually looks alot better than the Hornby bowler with it being on an actual class 40 model lol
Fair point homie- 🤣
@@ItsTrainBoyI didn’t expect a mad bomber reference! That was unexpected
Hornby's Bowler is based more on a Class 37 diesel than a Class 40, that's why I'd rather make my own.
@@thegreenbeetledrewscott9608 yeah, no clue why since they had a class 40 model before hornby made class 37 bowler
@eae2047 I dont think hornby didnt have a class 40 back then, they did shortly after (Due to buying out Lima who did)
Fun fact: Hornby's D261 isn't even made from a Class 40 model, it was from a Class 37. YOU HAD ONE JOB HORNBY.
POV: your trying to sleep but @trainboy upload
Just aboat to go to bed but here I am! It’s like midnight for me😳
OMG, sames
Can't relate. Its still morning here.
Seriously, it's 1:30 in the morning.
1:45am
Although I will say that I’ve always hated the idea of engines having faces on both ends (except for Mighty Mac since both faces have their own personas) I still think this is an amazing custom. You did a great job here.
Agreed I've never had the notion of two faces on characters it would be kinda disturbing 😅
Yeah
2 faced Andy is probably one of the most cursed things I’ve ever seen, kinda dig it though
What a wonderful model, I saw this literally all the time with other custom model showcase videos, but I really want to make my own for g scale someday.
I have been notified of the diesel in the area
1:30 PRAISE THE MAD BOMBER WATCHERS,
6:06 Nice one with the Gusty Garden Galaxy music 🥰
Legend has it train boy has made a replica of me
Nicely done! I have made my own models of Arthur and Duke so far, and I think this engine will be next on my list after watching how you made him.
It’s funny that you bought the Lima version of the Class 40, because Hornby would actually go on to buy Lima and inherit all their model molds/toolings, including this one and would reuse them for future releases, including Thomas models. Then like he said, true W
The Hornby D261 is actually reused from the class 37 tooling
Yo i really fux with this. such a simple custom but completely changed it from an outdated model to a fully functional character that fits right in. loving it lance.
Man this Bowler custom looks pretty good. I really want to try this sometime but I don’t know where to start
D261 is my favorite one-time diesel. It makes me happy to see him get more recignition
Unironically, I love Bowler.
Agreed, very underrated and underused character imo 😔
@@ItsTrainBoyYeah. Kind of wished they brought him again.

OH HE IS BEAUTIFUL you did him justice, man! I feel like this is the first diesel custom from your channel for a while, if not ever!
I didn’t know that Hornby Bowler is very expensive and I liked how you gave Bowler 2 faces
What kinda funny is that not only is 1: the hornby model uses the class 37 tooling (i know one or two people already covered this lol), and 2: lima did actually make a model of d261 in br green!

So glad i finished working so i can watch my guy cook
Great model dude
Thank you so much my homie, I hope it was worth the watch and have a great night :)💪

TrainBoy coming in clutch with a mad bomber reference
The double faces is interesting to say the least
I was finna go to sleep but then I would’ve missed this video thank goodness I didn’t not only that class 40s are my favorite diesels
Ngl i love they way that blue looked on it

Glad to see more diesel representation
Man wake up at 11 :00 and he said fuck this shit im making a video
Im so happy that there is a d261 custom (i usually dont see any d261 customs)
“Who wants to eat a Krabby Patty at 3 in the morning?!”
Me: “oh boy, 3 A.M.!”
I'm shocked you haven't tried to make Diesel 10 yet.
One more remark like that and your air tank will be very well acquainted with my hat

Whats the song during the running of the modified model?
“At least your all clean” -d261 at some point in time
I dare say this actually looks a lot better than the Hornby one. At least it's the correct class of locomotive. :P

It’s a good thing I got myself an official Class 40 model from Hornby way before today’s inflation
Your model looks a lot better than the Hornby one as it's actually a Class 40🙂
Cause he's using the correct model for Class 40, the one hornby made is another type of diesel with class 40 face put on it and his coloring.
@@poindextersheelturn436 The Hornby model is their old Class 37 (same shape as 40 but shorter and with 2 less axles).
Looks pretty good. You were better off making your own especially with the ridiculous cost just to get the Hornby one. Nice Andy model
It looks great good job!
Toby had 2 faces in RWS? I’m sorry, WHAT? Is that actually true? Love the video, great model 👍
I don't remember that myself but it's quite possible. The Culdee Fell engines had two faces - and that actually made it onto the ERTL toys.
Toby having two faces was a mistake but diesels like Daisy BoCo D199 Bear ect 100% in canon have two
Not to forget that these other characters that were Hornby-only releases are also STILL hard to obtain due to their availability and pricing: Stepney, Murdoch and Bear.
Luckily Stepney and Bear are just regular models with faces glued on, and Murdoch is a 9f repainted with a face glued on
Nice model dude!
You should totally get another one of these and make the best Thomas villain……..diesel 10
Bloody brilliant man! You did an amazing job here, on a second note what is that Nintendo music you use I know it but can’t name it and I’m going insane!
Definitely the better option considering Hornby's D261 is a Class 37.
With the Class 47 bogies like all Hornby Class 37s...
Bachmann makes class 40 diesels, so if Mattel will let them, they might reuse the class 40 tooling to make D261 and D40125. The only modification would have to be the addition of an eye mechanism.
I have this weird thing with diesels I really only like select few mainly 48ds's hymeks 45's 28's 04's and 47's depending on what livery they were.
Hi, where did you get the faces from mate?
More accurate than the official Hornby Bowler which was a class 37
It would be kool to see a model of Alfred/98462
ok seeing a diesel engine going around the layout with 2 faces is funny
Good Work.
Wish they had adapted super rescue so we could have d 199
holy crow i popped on at just the moment when the likes went from somewhere around 300 likes to just under 500 for the vid
I love bowler as a character so much, I love the fact that he’s more stupid then a twat
I also made a D261 model along with D199
Also nice model
No way. He uses OO as soon as I start using OO myself for making my first model layout. Unless Bachman (sorry if I spelt it wrong) is OO.
At least Hornby is fitting. I'm using Hornby. I feel like that makes no sense what I just said.
the thought that engines with 2 cabs would have a face on either end kinda freaks me out...
I just think its a weird thing. Because Toby never had two faces.
The Hornby Bowler is inaccurate at it's made using a Lima tool of a Class 37. Hornby hadn't acquired the Class 40 tooling at the time they released the model in 2003.

I don’t give a god-diggedy-damn what anybody said, D261 will always be “Andy” in my eyes
hey hey
Hornby's Class 40 model is pretty old, I think the best option for D261 is customs right now because of the higher-detailed Class 40 models out there.
I don't need I, especially, don't need it
I NEED IT
i know you probably don't care for roblox recommendations but there is a cool and beautiful game called sodor 1955, and a funny thing is the class 13 arry and bert joke you made is actually in the game
I think D4711 is weirdly tall in the railway series than say, Old Stuck Up or similar type diesel like 199

It’s ment to be conversion instead of conversation
You got a friend in me
cool
Do you plan also a Diesel 10 that is owned by the Stone ltd.?
Not really, Diesel 10 will either be owned by the scrap merchants or just a Sodor engine. I don’t think Burnett would care much for that guy lol 😅
Bowler would absolutely be so cocky that he'd go down the wrong track and fall down a mine
Hornby made a bowler?
The degree of success is debatable
Ah yes. Good ol' Hattons. BTW I've never used Hattons before but I'm considering it. Any tips for someone who is still frankly new to modeling.
