    Have to say, your production quality, balance of structure and content are at such a high standard now I doubt WG commercial wing could do any better. That video is by far your best yet.

      Thank you for saying so, that’s really very kind. I’m certainly enjoying the video making side of the hobby, and actually enjoy editing, but still cut loads of corners, and a bit too lazy to learn properly 😂

    Those individual musketeer firing poses look like they could also make a handy front rank in front of the strip with guys waiting their turn to fire for a different looking musket base. From what I understand that's how they fired in this era. Each rank would let a volley go and then retire back to reload with the next rank then blazing away. Also the flagbearer on foot could make another flag option for either the musket or the pike frontrankers. Good to see that the thinking about the structure of what goes on the sprue has improved from the Napoleonic release. I think it means that Warlord see this scale not as an adjunct to the 28mm but as a main revenue stream going forward

    • @MiniatureRealms

      I agree, I think there’s so much room for flexibility with this sprue, and yes I hope that this becomes a main revenue stream going forward, means we will see more and more.

    Excellent review and it’s looking like the best set so far, nice variety on that Cavalry sprue. Bodes well for future releases

      I agree, I think it shows the possibilities for future ‘two sprue’ releases in other periods, while others may get the larger treatment that Napoleonics did.

    Thanks for the review, very useful. Having ordered the starter set I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival. The frame is clearly optimised for War of three kingdoms, which is fine. The two Cuirassier will provide a smaller number which was more typical for this conflict. I shall be working on TYW imperialist army and so I shall need many more. I have just got samples from Steel Fist miniatures which really do fit perfectly, so that’s that problem solved. It’s possible that Warlord May do these as a stand-alone box with resin figures but I’m not too worried as the steel fist are very very nice indeed. I have heard that Peter pig will fir too but I’ve not seen these myself.
    I’d agree with you that warlord have given this careful thought and having played the period for decades I’m very impressed with the way they have tackled the subject.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Matthew. Steel Fist have some lovely sculpts, I’m sure I’ll be using them for a few bits. I got a few Peter Pig to use in with the Epic ACW release, mounted models fit in fine, slightly larger but not enough to cause issues, foot wouldn’t in my opinion.

    Thanks for sharing this Stuart, the figures do look great and far more enticing than the Napoleonic which for me where far too uniform. I enjoyed painting the ACW but with these I think I’ll skip the starter box and do one cav and one infantry box and see what results I get. Lesson learnt on the ACW front was to possibly have some foot soldiers on smaller bases but I figured that out too late. I like your random order command stand especially given my lack of enthusiasm for 10s of stands on a battlefield that all look almost the same. Paul (in Cal)

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Paul. Grabbing the smaller boxes to see how you get on isn’t a bad idea.

    Two nice reviews on this new range and my order’s in for the ‘Push of Pike’ starter which I think’ll have everything I need for a generic army that with flag changes could be either a Royalist or Parliamentarian force.
    The sprues look more early war (armoured pikemen) than later in the war and I think logical additional units include; firelocks (although the single musketeers may be a good proxy), a baggage train so that Royalists cavalry have something to do in battles 😂 and Cromwell’s ‘Ironsides’ cavalry.
    Looking forward to my WI sprue and perhaps another at Salute

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you John. Will be interesting to see what we get, I’d say Ironsides will be nailed on, can imagine firelocks being left at this scale, like you said using extra commanded shot, think Mike said in another comment about using them as the front rank of a musketeer stand, that could be a cool way of making them stand out.

  • @joeswift403
    @joeswift403 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Amazing that they were able to get so much variety onto the single sprue. The only downside I guess is that there's not so much variation in each unit, but let's be honest, at this scale it's not so important. I do like the less formal style especially with the artillery crew compared to what we saw with Epic Waterloo. Resisting the preorder, but know like every good Borg... resistance... is... futile

  • @picton101
    @picton101 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As I want to do ECW properly I've ended up buying quite a few of the cavalry boxes. I'm planning on painting the commanded shot in similar coat colours as my various foot regiments. That way I can use them as either commanded shot &/or additional musketeers in the foot regiments to add some variety. Not sure what to do with all the extra dragoon, cuirassier and gun units. I can't wait for these and your videos just make me want to buy more! Thanks!? 😂

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there could be a good market for swapping extras, I’m sure some people will have use for them, maybe 30YW players?

    • @picton101
      @picton101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm guessing everyone's going to end up with too many cannons for this period regardless. Everything else can be utilised somewhere, especially if playing a campaign game as random recruitment rolls may lead to dragoon or cuirass heavy forces for example. I'll wait and see what the next waves may bring. Hopefully Warlord stay away from metals! 🤞

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      The cannons might look nice on command bases, I think I’ll be tempted to have a destroyed one somewhere. I imagine they will stay away from metal, there has been none for the the Waterloo range, and the metals for the ACW range have been replaced with plastic (only Iron Brigade and Command strips left now I think).

    • @rorythomas9469
      @rorythomas9469 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Surplus curassiers can be integrated into the regular cavalry regiments, this was common in the ECW. Surplus Dismounted dragoons can be used as firelock armed infantry, which were used for things like protection of the baggage and artillery train, and sentries.

  • @paintingpanzers

    Another cracking video mate. I really like what Warlord are doing with these sprues and I think getting as much on as possible is fantastic. I would however, love to see just a touch more variety, especially with the cavalry aspect of it which would naturally make it difficult to fit so much on a sprue. It's difficult but my god, if they made these for the HYW or the Roman era, my money would be gone in a flash. I'm still holding off on these as this period goes way over my head.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think for the periods that will be bigger sellers then the variety will be spread over more sprues, but ones like this we can expect these two frame releases (maybe adding a couple later), it keeps the investment cost down, and there are always other companies who do ranges that fit well enough (and 3d printing). At £10,000+ for metal tooling on each sprue it hits the margins hard.
      I think you will definitely see Romans Vs ….. (maybe even next, as a next new period anyway). I’d love HYW as well, and can imagine that in the future as a smaller project like this one (I think Romans could end up being a big one like Napoleonics).

    • @paintingpanzers
      @paintingpanzers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @MiniatureRealms yeah I completely understand what you're saying. From a logisitc POV they're definitely doing the right thing. I think it's great that a company of Warlords size has continued to go down the lesser known conflicts route, too.
      Well, hopefully after all your amazing work on Warlord products, you'll be a true insider and will be able to tell me when to prep the wallet for the purchase of my Romans and HYW figures. Romans of any era would be awesome.

    • @MiniatureRealms

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, they squeezed a lot on there and something had to give I think. They may do some other options for them in later waves, and if not I think Steel Fist miniatures scale wise match almost perfectly.

    I dream, of a box of jannisaries and a box of otoman cavalry with sipahis and ligth irregular cav
    Or with a lot of time boxes of lansquenets so you can trully torture yourself painting them on mass on 15mm
    I will get a starter box this summer i had alrredy divided the units on overall armies using devils playground points as reference, the only thing that makes me worry is the lack of cuirassiers but i will avoid getting metal ones at the start but maybe 2 battallias of cavalry would be nice to at least get around more units of cavalry counting with push of pike (2 cuirassiers 8 units of arquebusiers 4 units of dragoons) since you trully want more cavalry

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re ‘Warlord Games Epic Scale’, which is 13.5mm to the eye. So I’m reality a little smaller than most modern 15mm miniatures. They are similar to old style Minifigs, Peter Pig, Steel Fist Miniatures (some of the smaller 15mm around). Hope that helps.

      I guess Warlord would be best placed to answer that, but they’re just a representation of the unit in miniature, not a 1:1 recreation.
