Mexican-American here. Happens to some of us too, I'd say its 50-50 for first-generation kids who grow up speaking Spanish at home or not; happens to every race who leaves their home country. Unfortunately, its a common outcome for families moving to Anglosphere nations, their governments rely on civil unity and allegiance to the nation-state rather than ethnic-culture (language/dialect, tradition, religion, morals and values). My Spanish is now B1-B2 intermediate, but I also felt the social pressure of not feeling Hispanic enough. But as the user said above, never too late learn a language. Begin by committing to a few minutes a day then expand. Best to start with the language that's relevant to your life.

hey xiaoma, huge fan of yours (you actually encouraged me to start learning italian) i've noticed that there are often jumpcuts right after the person you're speaking with finishes a sentence in the other language. what happens in those cut moments? i think it would be really helpful if you were to show us more on your process of digesting the information you receive in conversation rather than what you output -- maybe even an idea for a video haha if you were to say that there aren't any moments of value in those brief pauses, i'd argue that even things as small as your subconscious body language or the way you ask for clarification on certain words would be really interesting to see again, love the videos! fluent in italian one day

@@aidanjanemcintosh6919 lol Cultural appropriation is something madeup by americans for americans.
I love these videos from Ari. The best thing for me is that the there is no cruelty or nastiness in the pranks, and at the reveal the intent is that everyone laughs together, there is no traditional "butt of the joke". Plus Ari usually buys something and also gives the businesses a plug. Many other youtubers and tik-tokkers could could take note and learn something from him
I'm a chinese-canadian who doesn't speak chinese because of the one child policy. It's really hard for me to be in chinese spaces because I always feel like an outsider and that people will see me as different. I have to remind myself that even though I don't speak the language or have a strong connection to the culture, it doesn't make me any less Chinese.
Its time to learn-- never too late. Not trying to sound elitist either, but its not a bad thing to learn the language. Its part of the culture and preserving it is important. What is a culture without a language and traditions and its people? The world is already becoming more uniform.
I don't understand why the 1 child policy means you don't speak Chinese?
@@craigwatts9692 myself and over 100,000 adoptees were adopted internationally and as a result, were raised in families who were not Chinese or did not speak the language.
Don’t worry about feeling bad because I’m Lao American and can barely speak my own language. I talk to my parents in English even if they talk in Lao
I LOVE how you guys did this. This is one of the best collabs I’ve seen! 😂😂😂
7:51 your friend should've spoke chinese after saying all that 😂 it would've been even more hilarious.
what a clever / funny idea on making this video. i hope this gets a ton of views and that you guys do this again!!!!!!
I love that you come clean in your interactions. As long as everyone walks away witha smile. :D
The friend absolutely speaks Chinese. He's the guy that goes around finding non Chinese speakers to prank
Xioama made a video with this guy before. It's not the first time... so I think he knows.
we know
@@zosqi he didn’t
I thought the first restaurant was in on it. But I like how you’re honest about it. Always love watching these.
1:16 - start of the video
This is an awesome switch up of videos something a little different that i havent seen before i liked it alot keep up the great work! Also Vincent needs to be a character more often in the videos!!
that guys in 0:08 doesn't he look like hes from jolly?
this is exactly the video i expected to see when you & Vincent got together haha love it! you guys are amazing! Making me want to finish my Spanish course
The restaurants being "in on the joke" makes the whole thing really pointless isn't it - just like with that fake prank at the park.
It might not seem like much and you might not realize it, but it totally ruins it when introducing your channel to other people.
I absolutely love how he said "Everybody is welcome".😅🥰

Eileen really helped me understand bear markets much better... Great content, and loved it.
wow, The collab I really didn't know I needed. Now I want to see one of these videos every week! hope you will keep making videos together!
10:23 so was it all staged
I love you adding the restaurants locations!
Love the Chinese speaking Mormon in the beginning 😂
The look on the first 2 restaurants remind me of the vibe asian parents be giving you when they disappointed in you lol.
For the person who makes the subtitles for Xiaoma's videos: please leave the subtitles up a little longer than you've done in this video; this allows people to be able to read them easily before they disappear, and enjoy the videos more.
They don't choose the timing, they just put the words up as they talk.
We need more of this collab Lol love the reactions
Dude why lie about the content of your videos? You can still promote them without making some fake shit. I’ve watched tons of your videos and you’ve made incredible genuine content. No need to fake this stuff as I’m sure everyone you encounter with that prank is genuinely like wtf. I hope to not see that again
hey xiaoma, huge fan of yours (you actually encouraged me to start learning italian)
i've noticed that there are often jumpcuts right after the person you're speaking with finishes a sentence in the other language. what happens in those cut moments? i think it would be really helpful if you were to show us more on your process of digesting the information you receive in conversation rather than what you output -- maybe even an idea for a video haha
if you were to say that there aren't any moments of value in those brief pauses, i'd argue that even things as small as your subconscious body language or the way you ask for clarification on certain words would be really interesting to see
again, love the videos! fluent in italian one day
the staged vids are pretty wack
This was great! I loved the ones on the street.
I dunno this one feels a bit staged. Why would the workers assume the Asian friend speaks Chinese and then keep speaking Chinese when he clearly doesn't understand. Feels like the workers are acting and doing a bad job at it as well. Hope this wasn't a set up for content because that would be extremely lame.
Probably is staged, this tik tok kid stages all of his content
because its an actual thing that happens?
Did y’all stay until the end of the video? Xiaoma was totally transparent and said that the first two places were “in on it,” and that he wanted to promote them because he loves them.
Presumably, the street interactions were not staged. 😅
The comment above yours says it is scripted content as I suspected. Apparently he talks about it at the end of the video. Its obviously scripted if you pay attention.@@Jess-737
No I turned it off after the first interaction with the terrible acting and situation that didn't make any sense. At least he was transparent about it but fake content isn't enjoyable to me. I prefer the authentic reactions.@@valerieschiano2959
