Either that thing aint loud enough or he was just straight up catatonic for most of that trip. Maybe the pilots seat should be lower, it's too comfy lol
My theory on why the whole ship comes crashing down spontaneously if he misses the gems is that he dies from a heart attack when he realises the gems are gone so the ship comes down and the pikmin take his corpse and turn him into Pikmar (that’s the most popular name given for the oilmar-pikmin hybrid that appears in the bad ending)
2:16 In fairness, a Geiger Counter will tick a every now and again even when not near a dangerous amount of radiation. So Olimar noting that the thing ticks every once in a while is not necessarily a cause for concern. What's probably a bigger cause for concern is that he seemingly doesn't know what it is or how to use it in general.
Olimars spacesuit may be radiation resistant considering he's able to fly into orbit every night without the cockpit and sleep comfortably. So he might have never needed to know what radiation is since it doesn't affect him
He specifies it as "going wild", not ticking occasionally. In-game, it actually makes a lot of noise, suggesting there is a lot of radiation in the area.
I don't agree with the radio, communications are an important part of navigation, you CAN fly without it, but communicating with other ships and control towers makes it safer and easier. I'd say C rank
Not only that, but Olimar using his interstellar radio to contact the Rescue Corps is what triggers his rescue mission. Spoilers for Pikmin 4 below: If the Rescue Corps and then Lisa never showed up to rescue Olimar, he would have been stuck indefinitely on PNF-404 as a leafling.

I'd say it's extremely necessary. If this is how Olimar communicates with other ships, it's necessary if he wants to safely travel at light speed and not potentially crash into something. As infinitely small a chance as that is, I wouldn't take it.
one part i must disagree on, as no one else online seems to have noticed either: a pilot's seat is absolutely necessary for leaving the planet. olimar flies, shakily, within lower orbit during the game, but rockets have seats for a reason: withstandsing the g forces without getting knocked around the cockpit and ruining the controls. the jump to faster-than-lightspeed would be lethal if he couldnt buckle himself into the ship, because he would fly out through the glass the very instant he stopped.
I think he doesn’t use the massage machine in the cockpit, it’s in another part of the ship? Or at least, it’s not a suitable substitute for an actual seat.
It's DEFINITELY not Olimar's fault for all the ship crashes, considering that literally almost EVERY person who flies to that planet crash lands. It's highly implied to be something doing it on purpose- nearly every game in the series gives hints at this.
My theory is that the gravitational pull on PNF-404 is much stronger than the one on their specific planets, especially towards larger space ships. That explains why the Drake crash landed and the SS Shepherd crashed too. The meteor was just adding insult to injury.
The theory is the thing causing ships to crash are the umibozu (a Japanese mythical creature that causes shipwrecks and collects/kills captains). Some creatures (such as Waterwraith, Plasm Wraith, and even Goolix) are said to be some of the umibozu that give the Pikmin protagonists a rough time.
I saw a comment recently that talked about how the pilot's seat is probably necessary for going at high speeds, like the kind he needs to get home, as it would safely strap him in to a cushion that prevents him from getting flattened by the several Gs of force he would be experiencing. Also, Pikmin 4 reveals that there are multiple versions of both bolts and the gear in the ship, so I choose to believe that these are structural parts that would probably cause the ship to fall apart if they were missing.
Olimar would do amazingly well in the Fallout universe. I ignore my geiger counter in that all the time and if you ignore the upset tummy, glowing blood, spider cancer, 3rd arm, and tinnitus, I'm doing just fine. Banger video 💖
A big thing you're forgetting, these ship parts interact with each other, olimar doesn't have to read the geigar counter information because the ship's systems automatically use it for calculations
For those wondering, the Main Engine being the first part wasn’t sheer luck. Realistically it would be one of the first parts found since it would be attached right up until the point of impact, where it would pop off.
@@JessicaIn3D During the cutscene where his ship is falling to the planet, the engine is active. While all the other parts stripped off as he fell, the engine stayed put (due to its placement on the ship) and propelled the ship downward until it made impact. It’s probably why the Positron Generator was nearby too as it was most likely the part that provided energy to the ship. On a side note, that’s probably why the Generator exists as a redundant part along side the Fuel Dynamo. Perhaps it’s a separate power source for the Main Engine
I wanna say that the Positron Generator and the Eternal Dynamo are probably both on the ship as a redundancy thing. In case the dynamo goes down, he’s still got a backup to generate electricity. Great vid by the way!
I think a big thing to consider is if olimar personally values the object enough to go back. In 4 he kinda did just that for the dog. Made him crash again.
@@balls_gaming ya he values life even if it would cost him his life. The same could be said for items he has. Olimar would most definitely go back for something like the Libra because it is related to his kids.
@@hugomventura The thing with mMoss is, his plan was just to land, drop her off and take off again with a supposedly operational ship, something which would take minutes. However. In pikmin 1, it already took him 30 days of searching and he didn’t find his children’s gifts, he should have the common sense to not land again with a nearly expired life support system.
But the ship straight up fails in midair if you miss the Sagittarius or Libra, even if you got every other part (except the secret safe bc you need all 29 other parts to get to the final trial)
@@collectiusindefinitus6935And he didn't. The ship's power cuts, and he crashes before achieving escape velocity. In other words, those lights are important for some reason.
I always believed Sparklium was radiation, which may hint at Olimar and other similar planetary explorers are resistant to the harmful effects to extent, considering the piece that tracks radiation is off the charts while on the planet, but still I think there is only so much they can take without the canopy.
The zirconium rotor doesn't make space ship parts. The description is explaining that the part ITSELF is made from zirconium and that zirconium is a good material due to its rust-proof properties.
I don't think the constant swaying and shaking of an airborne spacecraft would do well with its structural integrity. The whole dam ship could fall apart! so I reason that the Shock Absorber is probably pretty vital.
5:37 Objection! Olimar would literally be dead without this thing in Pikmin 4! So personally, I would put it in C. Not necessary for the ship to go up, but it did save his life.
In this alternative universe, Olimar does the bare minimum of work and dies Also I think having the cushion and massage machine should be higher. Olimars bones would probably be aching a lot at that point
My guess is the Eternal Fuel Dynamo generates rocket fuel, not electricity, while the Positron Generator generates actual electricity. So it's like the gas tank and the battery on a car. They're both needed to make the engine run.
Having many things that do the same thing is not "Poor ship design." It is actually good ship design. If one of them break then the other can work as a backup until you fix the issue. Real life space ships have these.
@@JessicaIn3Djust because the game makes it optional, doesn’t mean it is optional, I mean look at how many parts there are that should be optional but aren’t, maybe there are some optional parts that shouldn’t be optional.
@@Leekodot15 Having 3 tiers of parts to collect would make the most sense: Key Parts, Absolutely indispensable. Helpful Parts, Useable for safety. Extra Parts, Not necessary at all. We could also go with a number of endings, like not getting all the Key Parts obviously resulting in the bad ending, but another bad ending could happen if he gets none of the Helpful Parts, so he doesn't make it home even after escaping the planet... the neutral ending requiring all Key Parts and a number of Helpful Parts so he could barely make it back, a good ending where he gets every Key and Helpful part to be 100% safe and sound, though dealing with some situations back at home regarding the parts he couldn't salvage, and the best ending requiring All Parts, of course, with no loss to be spoken of... except Pikmin deaths, but we don't talk about those.
Guess Olimar needed that pilot's seat after all... In all seriousness, I mostly agree with you, except I would've moved the Extraordinary Bolt up to A because even if it's just a regular bolt with a fancy name, it probably held something important in place. I also would've moved the shock absorber to A, the analog computer to B and the interstellar radio to C. Maybe move the Automatic Gear to A since I doubt that ship has a stick shift.
The two jewel-like gifts naturally make people think they're purely decorative, but remember that a gift is merely something given by someone, and that it's possible for that thing to also have a function. Perhaps his son and daughter helped buy the two parts to build their dad's ship, and the functions of those parts were just not explained.
In my playthrough of Pikmin 1 I found the Gluon Drive funny, because I thought of it as something that Olimar got scammed out of like the Extraordinary Bolt, between the fact it's probably actually glued together (glue-on drive) and the roar that the Dolphin gets on takeoff probably either being from the part being cheaply made or it being a selling point to warrant the piece being expensive
Its realizations like this that make me contemplate even more why this game has only 5 ship parts that aren't required when there are tons of ship parts that realistically wouldn't be required either. Including parts that are seemingly not important for lifting off, parts that should help him avoid the asteroid at the beginning but he didn't use because he was drinking tea (even though he was clearly looking ahead during the opening??), astrological signs of his children that do not affect his ability to lift off, and parts that he literally has no idea how to use or ones that he literally says do NOTHING. Honestly I wished it was more of a % based system where if you were forced to lift off you would have a certain chance to get the normal or bad ending depending on how many required parts you have (with all required parts being 100% chance). But with how the game handles the endings you could have 28/30 ship parts and you'll get the bad ending just because you forgot the Extraordinary Bolt or the Libra/Sagittarius and fail to lift off completely??? Maybe he really would not be able to show his face to his family again once they realize that he brought back his son's sign but not his daughter's. Pikmin 1 is truly a video game.
The Gluon Drive's unknown purpose put it so high on the list... even though the next tier down seems specifically tailored to that sort of ambiguity. My little nitpick aside, good video.
According to what little I know, gluons are waves of energy that destabilize molecules or something like that. Could be something that prevents burning up in the atmosphere or a warp shield.
As a kid, when I collected the Geiger Counter, I was like: “okay cool, got it what ever.” But as a grown adult man who stills plays this game, when I read Olimar’s description on the Geiger Counter now, it’s reacting to radiation ☢️! It’s crazy that Olimar has no idea what radiation is. But then again, he was never hurt by it or affected by it. Pikmin takes place on Earth long after humanity has disappeared or faded away. We don’t understand why humanity is gone, Pikmin 1 is one of my favorite games of all time.
To be fair, the safe isn’t important to get out of the planet: But losing all of your life savings, in a world where your yearly salary is under 100 pokos, that’s something you wouldn’t want to lose
I think the Whimsical Radar is important, Olimar would need to find his way home, and since he is in an uncharted planet and probably doesn’t know where he was the exact moment he got hit by the meteorite, he probably wouldn’t know which way to go without the radar
A radar isn’t going to be useful in interstellar travels, even if you somehow managed to get a signal back from a home planet. The light years of distance means it would take more than your lifetime for the radar to find your planet. It is much more feasible that he had a galaxy map on his computer and navigated using the stars.
Yeah it really makes no sense why some of the Parts are necessary to lift off, either Olimar simply cannot bear the fact to replace these, or the Dolphin is overly cautions and refuses to lift off properly without set parts. Who knows...
I did a quick run through of this in my 'in defense of pikmin 2' video but you counted even less pieces than I did! Infact you've convinced me the number might be just 13 lol
3:28 According to the manual (I think), he was making tea or something when he hit the rock, so he literally wasn't paying attention to the area in front of his ship. 6:10 This thing doesn't make parts, he's talking about the material it's made out of.
TECHNICALLY, the thing that saved his life was the retcon of the bad ending of Pikmin 1. He was still living as a Leafling, even if it’s some weird zombified state.
I believe why most parts are needed is because they change the appearance of the ship. The two gem parts from his children are needed because they attach themselves to the ship. The 5 optional parts aren’t needed because they don’t change the ship’s appearance.
I absolutely love this video. The S.S. Dolphin is my favorite ship in the series and i love seeing all the pieces come together to complete the ship. This is a level of detail i kind of missed in pikmin 4 since the S.S. Dolphin model is no where near as detailed as it was in the first game. And they left out alot of the ship parts. They only really put in the ones that show up externally. Anyways one part i could never wrap my head around as a kid and now is the zirconium rotor. I know olimar says a mechanic installed it and it was expensive but thats it. Like why is it required and what does it do for the ship to have a better chance of escaping the planets atmosphere?
It's also the best ship cuz it rumbles and rattles like an old muscle car compared to the newer ships and was named after project dolphin (the gamecube prototype). It's also got a lot of personal touches from years of olimars use. Such a storied vehicle uwu. And it's just got that classic video game retrofuturistic appearance to it with the glowing and shape and such. Though olimar says his fav color is red so idk why it's main style is white and orange. Unless maybe the orange used to be red and that's part of the aging from years of olimars use. Surely he'd fix that though. Idk. I think it just would've been better if the orange was red. Though I realized I accidentally made the ss Shepard the same color cuz I picked orange cuz closest thing to umbreon. But also white and orange is the coast guard colors so it seemed fitting for a rescue squad. And then I noticed olimars ship and I'm like whoops, I accidentally made it look like they're in the same fleet lol. Ah. The little things.
@@Subreon Funny you say it rumbles because I swear after you collect the gluon drive in pikmin 1 the ship rumbles and roars even more. Really driving home the feeling that you're in a rocket ship. I also like to think of the ionium jets as turbochargers/superchargers since they are designed to give olimar's ship better power to propel him to escape velocity quicker and net better fuel mileage when he is not hammering on it lol
@@oldsoulgarage2982 oh, nah. The ionium jets are to turn the ship in space since the fins can't do it with no air. It's real tech. Though now they're making rockets with engines that can turn when self recovering. The ss Shepard and other pikmin ships have those directional nozzles too.
@@Subreon I somewhat agree with this. Yes, you are correct the ionium jets help turn the ship while moving through space. they can act as RCS thrusters, if you have ever played Kerbal space program you should recognize that name lol. However I would think the omega stabilizers would move up and down like an aileron on a plane to steer the ship. Granted they may only work in a planet's atmosphere but olimar specifically states they help steer the ship. And I would think that during normal space flight outside of a planet's atmosphere, the 4 individual nozzles on the dolphin's engine would be able to tilt and gyrate to help the ship turn in space. And in emergency situations like in the Hey Pikmin intro, olimar can use the ionium jets as emergency RCS thrusters to help avoid hitting anything. Also, I think of the ionium jets as turbos since they always shoot out those small spurts of exhaust whenever the ship is taking off at the end of the day, almost like they are priming themselves to help boost the output of the engine for liftoff. Just my personal headcanon but im happy to finally see someone online who loves this ship as much as me lol

I want to believe that there are forces at play outside of the captains control on the pikmin planet as shown by how 99% of travelers to it get shipwrecked. I find it odd everyone says bad piloting when its said that hes never had this happen until now and suddenly through pikmin 1 2 and 3 and even 4 suddenly everyones a bad pilot? Something on that planet probably related to the waterwraith is causing this through manipulating the forces of fate itself! My running theory (spoilers for pikmin 3.) The Plasm wraith has some strange effect on the atmosphere and is trying to capture people! It never even left after defeating it in pikmin 3, if you notice IT LIVED ON IN THE ENDING TAKEOFF SEQUENCE! It's free to keep doing this!
YES!! THANK YOU! FINALLY someone else noticed all of this!! In Pikmin 4, Shepherd even talks about how Bernard is such a good pilot, and that it was odd that he crashed. The series has been STRONGLY hinting basically right from the start that something is consciously CAUSING these ship crashes. And yes- my leading theories are that it's either the Plasm Wraith (never explained why it goes after Olimar, doesn't die in the ending) or- possibly even the Pikmin themselves in some way- they always want an external leader to help them thrive, which would explain why they're constantly getting people who fit that role to crash on the planet. They let you go once you've helped thin out their predators enough, teach them survival skills and increase their numbers/help evolve their onions. This also hints at why Leaflings can't leave the planet, as the onions have attempted to make them permanent Pikmin leaders- that's also where the dandori obsession comes from- it's the specific skillset that helps Pikmin survive and thrive.
I’d say the interstellar radio, nova blaster, and the Geiger counter are very important as the radio can be used to call for help, the nova blaster can shoot through meteorites, and the Geiger counter may be used to tell how much radiation there is in an area, which is why it sparks and buzzes on PNF-404 because the planet may be radioactive as in Pikmin 2 when Olimar landed on Hocotate, the counter turns off
i think that with the positron and eternal fuel dynamo one is meant to be a back up in case the other fails for one reason or another, which can be quite useful if you're regularly going into the abyss of space
No, silly, the Zirconium Rotor doesn't make ship parts; zirconium is a good material for making ship parts. Although, there ARE a lot of gears and stuff in the Dolphin, so I'm gonna assume it's required to make all of those spinny bits go spinny.
Gonna update this comment as i go but. I think the reason it has 2 generators could possibly be either 1: Different systems use different types of power/have different needs, or 2: Possibly using one as a backup generator incase the opposite one fails.
I think the repair type bolt shouldn’t be recquired because the ship is already repairing itself when you bring parts to it so and item that does that seems a bit pointless.
The thing is that while Olimar is finding the core components the repair parts would be invaluable for the countless smaller parts that would need to be replaced to keep the larger parts in place and make the ship space worthy. If we're being truly realistic if a machine is hit so hard most of the parts fly off, especially one as complex as a space ship it's unlikely to be fixable by just slapping the parts into place.
Olimar would become broke and homeless without the piggy bank though!!! Also the bowsprit is probably important so Olimar doesn't burn up and disintegrate when he enters Hocotates atmosphere.
The shock absorber is probably for non-collision related landings and stops. Depending on where the Shock Absorber is actually located and installed, it could prevent Olimar from suffering severe injuries when he has to stop the ship suddenly.
then in pikmin 2 they just took away the ships without olimar's consent, all the gifts from his children, and his saving gone with his ships! why they still keep louis after he put them into centuries of debts ?
Olimar: OH NOES I FORGOR MY PILOT SEAT BUT I GOT EVERYTHING ELSE AND NOW MY SHIP CRASHED! (I think he would die from this by massaging his butt from the pain taking his hands off the wheel causing him to crash)
Shock absorber should be A tier, you notice how much the ship rattles, and jostles, especially during take off? That's what it's here to prevent, and that's important because it keeps things in place, constant taking is likely to knock things out of place, and most things need to be where they are supposed to be if they are going to work, this is doubly true if the ship is missing a bunch of other pieces, as that leaves a lot of empty space, and slack for pieces to fall into
I believe a good number of the parts (gigar counter, analog computer, etc.) that you put in the low tiers are detectors for or pieces of the autopilot that olimar mentions at the beginning of the game. You put most of these in c or d tier but I think anything related to autopilot should be in b at the lowest. You talk about how olimar is asleep at the beginning of the game but forget that his job is basically just a space trucker. And he spends weeks in space at a time.
I'd say the Pilot's Seat is a bit more important than people give it credit for. It's not just a cushion, it's the whole seat. Without it, Olimar has to presumably sit on exposed metal parts. That may be fine for flying a couple dozen meters into the air each night, but that's only a short flight, at which point I'm assuming he turns on autopilot to stay in the air so he can sleep. However, flying all the way to Hocotate might take days, during which OIimar needs to pay attention not to fly into any more asteroids. Imagine you had to drive halfway across the country after someone removed the entire driver's seat from your car. What if Olimar encounters any turbulences during his trip? He could be sliding all around his cockpit, holding on to the steering wheel for dear life. I mean, we don't even know if Olimar can buckle up without the seat. Also, he's gonna sit much lower than usual, meaning he might not even be able to see where he's flying very well.
The zirconium rotor is never mentioned to have the ability to create parts, the line is "zirconium, which is particularly suited to making spaceship parts" meaning that zirconium, the material, is well suited for being used as the primary material for parts. This rotor does basically nothing, I'd give it C or D
Mfw a radio isn't important even tho it's one of the most important ways to communicate to anyone, not only for sos but to find a place to land or request landing
My favorite thing about alamar is that he's literally just a space trucker. He doesn't need to know how his vehicle works. He just needs to know how to drive it.
and then some idiot at Nintendo decided to make Olimar's life support in Pikmin 4 last 15 days instead of 30. What was the point in doing that? it should have been 30!
I read the title like it was a video about why olimar needed to get off of the planet and i was thinking 'It's literally just the fact it's another planet and his life support only had 30 days on it' And then i watched like 2 seconds in and realised what was going on- lol
Olimar isn't saying that the Zirconium Rotor makes parts, but that Zirconium is a particularly good material to make parts out of. Still probably a vital piece though
yeah the only reason half this junk is "necessary" is the way the Dolphin will repair itself to a certain degree from mere *number* of parts returned. without getting enough parts to do most of the secondary repairs, he's lifting off with all the parts he has, still being cracked/bent/etc., and the repair devices might be able to fully repair his ship across the span of a several-week trip, but not within the remainder of his 30-day limit, and certainly within the mere *seconds* it takes him to escape the atmosphere.
This would work... if the ship parts didn't all enhance the ship with each one installed and helped make it actually air tight, fit for flight, and probably connect a few wires.
I like to imagine that the Nova Blaster is really just a flashing light and that Olimar got fleeced by the seller. That seems to happen to him a lot. Also, the Zirconium Rotor doesn't *make* spaceship parts, Olimar just notes that zirconium is a good material for making them, he doesn't actually say what it does. I'd have put that in maybe.
funny you mention Olimar being kind of selfish during the Emperor Bulblax fight, Pikmin 3 just kinda drops the lore bomb that greed is second nature for Hocotations
Also, since the secret safe is the final part, and considering the plot from Pikmin 2, without that part, not only would Hocotate Freight most likely go out of business, but Olimar’s savings would be gone as well.
as an engineer, i must mention that shock absorption is important to the body of most creatures, too many excessive G forces will just kill. higher than D tier
Bro the interstellar radio is f their in pikmin one, but if your talking about pikmin 4, you know it’s gonna. Be a tier. He uses it and the rescue corps comes
I'd argue the Positron Generator should be B tier, keeping the Eternal Fuel Dynamo at A tier. Olimar needs energy for his ship, and it seems the positron generator functions as a sort of redundancy. If the EFD fails, there's a backup generator that relies on solar energy (he calls out the fact it uses solar cells)

Or they could probably work similarly to an ev where the Fuel dynamo powers the engine while the generator powers internal systems like the computers
@@rexthewolf3149oh y’know, that’d make a ton of sense too; running the different systems off of two different power sources and all
The Zirconium Rotor does not make spaceship parts.
Its made of Zirconium, which does not rust, which is good for spaceships parts.
It also makes for some fancy pants.
@@syweb2that are consequential enough to slip you into a trance?
I think a big thing to consider is if olimar personally values the object enough to go back. In 4 he kinda did just that for the dog. Made him crash again.
no, Moss snuck on the ship, and got very sick from leaving PNP-404, he had to go back (he wouldn't kill a space pup)
@@balls_gaming ya he values life even if it would cost him his life. The same could be said for items he has. Olimar would most definitely go back for something like the Libra because it is related to his kids.
@@hugomventura
The thing with mMoss is, his plan was just to land, drop her off and take off again with a supposedly operational ship, something which would take minutes.
The description is explaining that the part ITSELF is made from zirconium and that zirconium is a good material due to its rust-proof properties.
love how olimar finds a part that can generate a ton of electricity but his first thought is to use it to microwave food.
And helped him meet his family again
In this alternative universe, Olimar does the bare minimum of work and dies
Also I think having the cushion and massage machine should be higher. Olimars bones would probably be aching a lot at that point
Yeah, a tier higher, they have A use
I always assumed the secret safe was like his gas money. Not necessary but maybe risky to be without.
At the same time, I interpret some of the energy parts as clean infinite fuel, so that wouldn’t be required.
@@aidanhammans9337 Infinite fuel seems like it would be very costly to buy. It would most likely be cheaper to just buy gas.
@@SuperDestroyerFox I somehow doubt Olimar would properly understand that considering he also got tricked into buying the Extrodinary Bolt.
he probably needs it to get food and such, a man's gotta eat
My guess is the Eternal Fuel Dynamo generates rocket fuel, not electricity, while the Positron Generator generates actual electricity. So it's like the gas tank and the battery on a car. They're both needed to make the engine run.
Having many things that do the same thing is not "Poor ship design."
It is actually good ship design. If one of them break then the other can work as a backup until you fix the issue.
Real life space ships have these.
Yep. "Points to solar panels".
5:35 this part is the cause of the pikmin 4 events, which end up saving his life in that timeline, so I would give it a S tier
I think the nova blaster should go in doubt these are important because it can shoot meteors if he has to go off track
yeah but you can literally win without it
@@JessicaIn3Djust because the game makes it optional, doesn’t mean it is optional, I mean look at how many parts there are that should be optional but aren’t, maybe there are some optional parts that shouldn’t be optional.
For a second I thought this was a splatoon video but then I remember
@@JessicaIn3DI would say it counts as "dangerous to go without," mostly because of the space pirates.
@@Leekodot15 Having 3 tiers of parts to collect would make the most sense:
Key Parts, Absolutely indispensable.
I swear Pikmin 1 just never gets old, I can replay this game until the day I die
The game was made with replayability in mind.
Maybe have different parts give different percents? So the signs give very few but like the engine gives 30%
I'm honestly surprised that the Extraordinary Bolt is required
@@Greenboi32 I always figured the bolt was needed for structural integrity more than anything.
You dont even need to forget it, it can just bounce into the endless void, never to be seen again
The Gluon Drive's unknown purpose put it so high on the list... even though the next tier down seems specifically tailored to that sort of ambiguity. My little nitpick aside, good video.
nah, it was because it was a part of the hull
According to what little I know, gluons are waves of energy that destabilize molecules or something like that.
Could be something that prevents burning up in the atmosphere or a warp shield.
Wait, wouldn’t he need to have the uv lamp to produce vitamin d? Or would his alien nature not require that?
He already flies in a glass cockpit. He gets enough vitamin D exposure
The massage machine is the most important item. Olimar’s back is destroyed and will probably get a cramp while flying.
This 🤣🤣
As a kid, when I collected the Geiger Counter, I was like: “okay cool, got it what ever.” But as a grown adult man who stills plays this game, when I read Olimar’s description on the Geiger Counter now, it’s reacting to radiation ☢️!
To be fair, the safe isn’t important to get out of the planet:
But losing all of your life savings, in a world where your yearly salary is under 100 pokos, that’s something you wouldn’t want to lose
so it sounds like that safe wasn't very full then
Bro literally can’t launch out of the atmosphere without his seat cushion
I think the Whimsical Radar is important, Olimar would need to find his way home, and since he is in an uncharted planet and probably doesn’t know where he was the exact moment he got hit by the meteorite, he probably wouldn’t know which way to go without the radar
A radar isn’t going to be useful in interstellar travels, even if you somehow managed to get a signal back from a home planet. The light years of distance means it would take more than your lifetime for the radar to find your planet.
It is much more feasible that he had a galaxy map on his computer and navigated using the stars.
@@collectiusindefinitus6935it's shown in pikmin 4 that you can get signals from planets quite far away from just outside the atmosphere.
I doubt the Interstellar Radio is not important because from what it is it appears to be the only way of long-distance communication in the ship
Yeah it really makes no sense why some of the Parts are necessary to lift off, either Olimar simply cannot bear the fact to replace these, or the Dolphin is overly cautions and refuses to lift off properly without set parts. Who knows...
Interstellar radio is definitely S tier cus it makes pikmin 4 happen
I did a quick run through of this in my 'in defense of pikmin 2' video but you counted even less pieces than I did! Infact you've convinced me the number might be just 13 lol
3:28 According to the manual (I think), he was making tea or something when he hit the rock, so he literally wasn't paying attention to the area in front of his ship.
6:10 This thing doesn't make parts, he's talking about the material it's made out of.
But did you test using several fiery blowhogs to replace the ionium jets? It could help minimize parts
oh true
F: could use wild animals instead
There. That’s it’s new rank
I just realized that half of the pieces have basically the same functions
well, the interstelar radio might not be necesary to take off, but is what saved his life in pikmin 4, so idk xd
TECHNICALLY, the thing that saved his life was the retcon of the bad ending of Pikmin 1. He was still living as a Leafling, even if it’s some weird zombified state.
The Massage Machine is an easy A-tier.
C'mon, Pikmin aren't going to do it.
I believe why most parts are needed is because they change the appearance of the ship. The two gem parts from his children are needed because they attach themselves to the ship. The 5 optional parts aren’t needed because they don’t change the ship’s appearance.
Finally someone else called Olimar out on his gullibility
@@oldsoulgarage2982 yeeeeeeeeee. I kinda wanna paint a vehicle irl like it. Idk if I wanna do it to a car, boat, or helicopter though. A submarine would probably be the best fit though cuz it can be the exact shape and function similarly
My running theory (spoilers for pikmin 3.)
The Plasm wraith has some strange effect on the atmosphere and is trying to capture people!
Something tells me he doesn't need the radiation canopy if the geiger counter gose of constantly.
The gluon drive just lets the ship play la cucaracha when he honks the horn
Olimar was making a cup of tea when the meteor hit the ship so he’s not a bad driver
i think you could've included the radio as important
i mean, it's kind of part of why Pikmin 4's plot exists
it has literally nothing to do with the dolphin's ability to fly or navigate though
This isn't pikmin 4 though. That game is an alternate universe. The radio accomplishes nothing for him in this game
fair enough@@JessicaIn3D
@@JessicaIn3D It's important in that Olimar needs to listen to his favorite radio station in space.
@@JessicaIn3D Don't irl pilots need a radio to navigate? Or at least make navigation a lot easier?
I've thought about this concept before but never really looked through and counted before
No, silly, the Zirconium Rotor doesn't make ship parts; zirconium is a good material for making ship parts.
I think the Extraordinary screw is absolutely necessary, believe it or not.
How do you propose Olimar is meant to land his ship without a radio with which to communicate with any control towers he approaches exactly?
The massage machine chair is by far the most important part to collect.
This is probably the most unexpected place you could have ever appeared in
Shock absorber should be A tier, you notice how much the ship rattles, and jostles, especially during take off?
“For some reason my Geiger counter freaks out every time I come back from making noodles. Wonder why?”
-Olimar probably
pretty nifty video! also i didnt know the gravity jumper made a funny noise when you drop it and that made me giggle the first time i saw it
I'd say the Pilot's Seat is a bit more important than people give it credit for.
I can’t imagine going warp speed without the right chair is a good idea but I’ll take your word for it lol
ur voice is so cute ^^ i luv ur videos u really know ur stuff n ur voice makes me smile :D
i mean, obviously you gotta have that pilot's seat, it's so important that he even put it in a vault just to make sure he wouldn't lose it
Louie is dead. End of statement
The zirconium rotor is never mentioned to have the ability to create parts, the line is "zirconium, which is particularly suited to making spaceship parts" meaning that zirconium, the material, is well suited for being used as the primary material for parts. This rotor does basically nothing, I'd give it C or D
The Extraordinary Bolt is too important to leave behind.
I say you need all 30 pieces. Olimar needs his life savings from the secret bank and to reach that you need the other 29 parts.
Mfw a radio isn't important even tho it's one of the most important ways to communicate to anyone, not only for sos but to find a place to land or request landing
If Olimar’s Secret Safe has his money in it i think he would maybe need it seeing as he has a family to feed
I read the title like it was a video about why olimar needed to get off of the planet and i was thinking 'It's literally just the fact it's another planet and his life support only had 30 days on it' And then i watched like 2 seconds in and realised what was going on- lol
that thumbnail is sooo pleasant to look at 😌
Olimar isn't saying that the Zirconium Rotor makes parts, but that Zirconium is a particularly good material to make parts out of. Still probably a vital piece though
yeah the only reason half this junk is "necessary" is the way the Dolphin will repair itself to a certain degree from mere *number* of parts returned. without getting enough parts to do most of the secondary repairs, he's lifting off with all the parts he has, still being cracked/bent/etc., and the repair devices might be able to fully repair his ship across the span of a several-week trip, but not within the remainder of his 30-day limit, and certainly within the mere *seconds* it takes him to escape the atmosphere.
the kids gift and the massage machine is totally needed bro what u talkin about?
You wouldn't want to travel long distances without a comfortable seat... Never would olimar
The rock hit his ship because of the wraiths
This would work... if the ship parts didn't all enhance the ship with each one installed and helped make it actually air tight, fit for flight, and probably connect a few wires.
Olimar needs someone to take his license off him, no body should be aloud to crash land this many times 😂
Well I Pikmin 4 he does only need 15 parts....
funny you mention Olimar being kind of selfish during the Emperor Bulblax fight, Pikmin 3 just kinda drops the lore bomb that greed is second nature for Hocotations
You do have to consider that without most of this stuff, the spaceship would be very open in some areas and well thats not good.
Hm... Maybe that's why they reduced the number of required ship parts in Pikmin 4
he needs the libra and sagittarius, his soul is stored inside them
