Finding another one early might be hard, but they can be bought in other towns! Follow the missions until they lead you to the Checkpoint town, and you can find another vendor there who sells weapons. There are plenty of staffs in the game; you just have to go find a vendor that sells one now. You can also get lucky when killing undead mage skeletons at night and they might drop one.
