First time I found this video because I was specifically searching for hand-drawn animations. Today it got into my recommendations. It gives me hope, that more people will see it
Chairs provide stability and comfort. I think its a metaphor for trying achieve a place in society where you can get that. Others arent successful in achieving stability and some fail more quickly than others despite trying hard and they are forced to leave into a place of nothingness and left behind because everyones only focused on trying to secure their own seat on the "chair" to do anything else.
I love how the chair retains its clear shape throughout, even from far away, the tension is so palpable, and I love the ending. We live in a time where aesthetic means so much, people love color and big eyes, I'm glad you made something stark and different when there's so much pressure to do the opposite
metaphor for life? when you think you have just done all it takes to be seated you look aroundand see others have had a hard time being seated as well, just to realize thats what is going on with existence in general, seat taking

The anxiety is strong with this one No but siriously I am amazed at how beautiful and terrifying this is, such a surreal yet simple idea and you delivered the emotion flawlessly. Amazing, really
To me it's about how we are confining and restraining our infinite and ever expanding souls with mere 3d achievements and societal pressure (notice how chairs themselves are hanging and pulled downwards by gravity but the bodies are shown to float upwards).
This could be seen as someone trying to find their place in the world, struggling to grasp at it and finally attaining it in the end. But we also come to the conclusion that, we're not alone in this and at times some fail to find their place and just fall into the abyss.
Or that once we find our place in the world we come to the conclusion that we're just like everyone else and the only way to be free of the "safety in purgatory" that the man-made illusory construct of the chair comes with is to let go and find our own fucking way. But in truth, most of us will simply die without the leash of the safety chair holding us from the great abyss.
I mean, if you think about it, we could only see the person at first. At the end, we see everything he could already see all around him. Those are all the examples of people who got this situation to work for them in their own sad way. They're simply sitting around doing nothing, waiting to die. But they're safe. But as he's falling, he sees they're safe; that's ALL he sees in that terror-filled moment. So he follows their example to be safe, never knowing what happens when you reject the leash. And he becomes like them.
The apathy these people who made it on their chairs show to the people falling is truly abhorrent. They watch from their safety net and do NOTHING while people, brethren die all around them, crying out for help, for direction. Maybe the masses of people in their chairs have it in their mind that life in this twisted world is meaningless, and their only choice is between a slow, meaningless, coddled death atop a chair and the unknown fall that would certainly lead them to a painful death. Maybe they all know this and have lost hope, despite the fact that there may be a different way to live if they jump and take their life into their own hands.

Being that i animated a short film myself for the first time, seeing this is just amazing. Not just the animation but the visual storytelling and the unnerving music zooming out to see the other people is just great. A great animation!
I imagine it as everyone is struggling in life both mentally and physically some people can’t make it to “ the chair” some people push and make it and are able the continue with life and sometimes they make a wrong move and fall off the chair
I am very impressed with the drawing technique you have, the concept of the story itself is disturbing as well as realistic. I have no words, you are a great artist!
I yelled & I yelled at my computer screen. "Wrap the rope _around_ your wrist 1st!" but he just wouldn't listen! So, frustrating.🤬 (But, tbh it _was_ fantastic animation. Thanks for sharing.🤗)
This was amazing. I haven’t really seen a lot of animated stuff that’s drawn out like this. Im planning on doing one myself and this short film made me excited.
The struggle of life to find comfort with ones station, to fight to be comfortable in ones own skin. Will you stop fighting and relax or will you plunge to your pitiful doom?
Hope YT recommends this to more people, making hand drawn animation takes a lot of skill and patience

accurate representation of how it feels to lean slightly too far back in a chair

the muscles were handled delightfully. Although just graphite, the rope seems so full of real tension

I hate how little attention this animation has, considering how amazing it is
I've watched it over and over, sometimes months apart, haunting. Never forget it
now seeing all these ai art trends etc its so refreshing and beautiful to see such commendable work.. so beautiful
This makes so much more sense when you watch it upside down.
And this is why hand drawn animation is superior to everything else --- its the mother of all storytelling. Please share this! ❤

Are you Mori? I love this short film. One of the best I've ever seen!
yes, Hiroshi Mori
This probably has a deeper meaning but I have no idea what it is.

This is so INCREDIBLE!!!! it's so eerie! The sound effects are spectacular and add so much!! I love how the ending just makes you question more!!
Inspiring. Confined to the chair to create, released by the chair to deflate.
thanks!
awesome video, found that ending quite dark with some of the figures falling off. very cool.
Thanks for watching! Guess I have a bit of existentialist streak.
