1974 Selling Chevelle Malibu Laguna S3 Dealership Sales Training Promotional Film ( Restored )

  • This 1974 Chevrolet promotional film, titled " Selling Chevelle ", was sent to the Chevrolet car dealerships to be used as an in-house Sales and customer training film. This film highlights technical aspects and features of the new model year. Model shown includes Chevelle, Malibu, Malibu Classic, and Laguna S3.
    If you look up a different film I posted, titled "1974 Chevy Selling Monte Carlo ", you can see a rare glimpse of the film cartridge viewer that was used at the dealership where the customers and personnel were to view these films. The machine was made by Technicolor and called the " Chevrolet Mini Theater System "
    This film came from my personal collection. This film was not downloaded from any website and is not reused content. This restoration is my work. The restoration process started with removing the super8 film from the Technicolor Cartridge. After removal the film was cleaned, repaired, and spooled onto a standard film reel. This film had many scratches and dust marks along with severe color fade. The scanning to digital process and basic color correction was performed on the Lasergraphics Scanstation motion picture film scanner system in 2k resolution. Excess film grain noise was removed and the images upscaled to 4K resolution utilizing Topaz AI software. Then in 4K, extensive color restoration was performed in Davinci Resolve. Scratches and dust marks along with advanced noise removal was performed using NeatVideo. Then a second and final color restoration and image stabilization was performed in DaVinci Resolve. Unfortunately, this film appears to have external sunlight damage causing the color and film image to shift and change as the film progresses. Finally, the film was downscaled back to 2k for uploading to TH-cam. As I work on these films, I try to improve the process as I go along. Thanks for watching.

    My elementary school teacher purchased a new 1974 Malibu Classic Coupe...bronze paint with ivory interior. I never knew what the "new car smell" was until then!

      GM let the divisions go at it openly ..unless pontiac had a better/more powerful model than chevrolet...then they got swatted down.

      It wasn't about in-fighting. Chevy dealers were in as much competition with Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile dealers as they were Ford and Chrysler. There was no family as far as they were concerned

      Even the 350 2bbl was pretty much foolproof. Carried a family of 6 cross country many times with that big plastic carrier thing up top. Summer road trips everyone did em back then. Today nobody even leaves the house glued to social media.
      Missing out on life!!

    Interesting to note. Car buyers today in 2022 are more interested in the technology inside the car. Like WiFi, Spotify and other tech features. Like Apple CarPlay. Back in those days having a AM/FM stereo was a option. Also I don’t even think AC was standard.

    They were all unique. The S3 was always a cool runner even though nobody cared for them back in the day

    Awesome to see these films preserved. I wonder if the guy is still around? Though he would probably be in his 80’s by now. Maybe get him to do promotional films on a modern car/truck/SUV? It would take him an hour for one car with all the Tech, safety features, and choices they have today. The 2022 Silverado is probably just as long as that Malibu if not longer. The more things change the more they stay the same I guess. .

      I had an S-3 around 1984 or 85 with the 454 auto.The guy I worked with had the 454 with the 4 speed. They were great cars in their time. The 454 on the front fenders always got attention.The car was quick but the Trans Am's of the day were slightly quicker.

    Wow I actually owned one of these cars me and my friends all called this car Christine I ran into so many people and objects with this car and never got a scratch on it this car was invincible. My most memorable and beloved car ever❤

    the second vehicle in my family was a 1974 Chevelle Malibu in that I learned to drive a manual transmission with its shifter on the steering column

    I would rather they compare this model to the Plymouth Satellite, too. Satellite was in its final year in 1974, and was available in several trims and body styles as well.

    I always got confused in these years as they used both the Chevelle and Malibu nameplate in one model. So all the cars were Chevelles but they had a sub name of Malibu or Malibu Classic? I thought the Malibu was a separate model?

      Yes. The Chevelle Malibu was the base model. The Malibu Classic was the top trim model of the Chevelle, although it didn't have the name "Chevelle" on it anywhere.

      Body colored or black for the standard steel wheels went back a long way, so it was normal. If the car had full wheel covers, only the lips would show. And matching the body color looked good to me. Obviously they used the argent silver for the Rally wheels, which were the best looking Chevrolet wheel to me.

    Gotta say I don't like those "coach windows" as much as the original thin-pillar styling and triangular quarter windows the Colonnade coupes were meant to have. Too bad the only way to get them after '73 was to buy a base model.

    It seems like Chevrolet could never make up their mind from year to year whether they liked rectangle or round tail lights on all their models. I guess they would get bored with rectangle tail lights, and change them out for round ones, and then go back to the rectangle tail lights, and then decide to do something completely different and go with "horseshoe tail lights"!🤣🤣🤣

      Bumper/tailights and truck on myDads 73 Impala..curved rear glass loved it.
      Now camaro corvette and cavalier tailights all look the same to me. Styling is all gone, body on frame cars gone too.
      Sad....

      @@theemulsionalchemist5688 I can understand liking GM as a whole or disliking GM as a whole, but I cannot understand how someone could be an Oldsmobile fanatic but refuse to even consider buying the Buick version of the same car. Similarly, I cannot understand how someone could be a Mercury fanatic but refuse to even consider buying a well-equipped Ford version of the same car. Then there's Dodge vs. Plymouth, the two most interchangeable brands of all. Until Plymouth died, I had no idea that it was the "budget" brand while Dodge was the "sporty" brand.

      @@jasonhsu4711 As a matter of pure opinion I think that Buick had the best styling of the early Colonnades apart from maybe the Endura-bumpered premium models. For the same money as the Malibu Classic shown here you could have a base Buick Century 350 with much nicer lines, plush interior, an upscale image and without the landau roof.

      I bought a brand new 77 Malibu Classic back then, which was the last year for the 73-77 body style. Black with black Landau roof, gold pinstripes, Firethorn red interior with velour, and Rally wheels with raised white letter BFG steel belted radials. Great looking car.

    Man those cars were so ugly compared to the 68-72 generation. The also were so big, almost the size of the Impala thanks to those railroad tie bumpers.
    Also the 74 engines were prone to stalling and hard starts. While the 75 engines had even less power than the 74 the catalytic converter actually improved driveability by allowing better jetting and spark timing.

      It was optional. If you wanted it you ordered it, or they would normally have a/c equipped cars on the car lot to choose from.
