Mandy Lea I'm an adoptee who grew up knowing that somewhere out there I had biological family. I was raised an only child and it hurt, I hated being alone. My ancestry.com test connected me with the realization that my bio family (grandparents level) were Mormon polygamists. I was told that there are HUNDREDS of missing children from the family/community that were taken away and adopted. No one knows if my parents were taken, if they know, or what. Every single blood family member I've found (1st cousin or greater) is adopted. no parent/siblings yet. It's a confusing mess but just goes to show the damage that can be inflicted on families when an entire generation is take away and adopted out. I adore my adoptive family and they knew NOTHING about any of this.
Recently found a daughter for my uncle who never had kids and seriously never imagined he had any kids out there. I feel so fortunate to have been the conduit in which brought their lives together, through an innocent interest in Ancestry in taking my own DNA test. Their bond in just two months has been nothing short of amazing. Your story is beautiful, thanks for sharing!!
I had put my own DNA into Ancestry, and then uploaded that to MyHeritage, GEDmatch, FTDNA. 23&me does not accept uploads from other companies, neither does Ancestry, so My son had some medical issues when he was younger and he wanted to use the 23&me site because of their health screening for many genetic abnormalities. He would match my relatives as well so it made sense to throw him into the different data pool, and sure enough, his top match came in and it was my little brother. It all happened so fast because I had search angels working for three months already. They had told me the name of my father the night before my son's results came in, and that day I spoke to my brother on the phone who knew our father's name.
@@Luthers_Mutter it was the absolute worst experience of my life to have found my parents. My brother was "eh". I think he wanted me to be someone entirely different. We spent some time together and we did have a good time, I helped him empty his mother's home, she was a hoarder, and he had to move her into a nursing home. but I could tell he wasn't into me because I wasnt a self absorbed socialite like him. We did not have the same experiences in life regarding "the system" and it was clear he felt like he was better than me. I had to let him go ...but my birth mother destroyed me and now has one of my children living with her and took granddaughter too. My birth father treated me like a cat treats a mouse. He immediately tried to pit me and his wonderful beautiful wife against each other. He really thought I was so desperate that we would scratch each other's eyes out vying for his attention stupid old fool. I would have given him a slice of liver or a kidney but he basically mocked me to my face until I had to cut him off. They are sick twisted ppl. The stories are too numerous and mortifying. My son was devastated by them but my daughters seemed to believe every word out of her lying mouth. I have two brothers from my mother who couldn't even dream of meeting me because I looked like her. One of them had to get a restraining order against her and the other one is homeless. They were terrified of my face and that I was "like her". They both had PTSD from HER. we are all in our fifties. I hope you have a better experience.
@@KARENboomboomROXX karen it hurts to read your story. You were lucky to not be brought up as your siblings. But I am really sad what happened in the last two years.. We met a few weeks ago. In another country as I was visiting a friend he just flew there too. My adoption was an international one so my brother and I were brought up in two different european countries. We met for 2 days. It went really good. We just clicked and made a promise to never be dishonest to each other. We will meet again this year. But of course you never know what happens in the future... Karen I wish you strength.
I recently found my half sister by using 23andMe! Had the results for 2 years and never looked at the family tree. On Friday last week, I opened 23andMe do some of the research questions. Happened to see that they had a family tree option. I clicked yes to the consent button and saw that I shared 22.1% of DNA with a complete stranger. Wrote to her immediately and now we are in the early stages of learning about eachother and finding out more about my Dad than I'd ever learned when he was alive!
How did you figure out she was your half-sibling and not aunt? Asking cause I recently got a 20% match with 1491 and she comes up as an aunt but that match seems odd
@@krisjohnson1701 Good question! I suggest contacting your family member that has 20%. You never really know what you are gonna find out until you take that first step!
My Mother was adopted at birth on January 15, 1966 in Washington D.C. and it was a closed adoption. Biologically speaking, my Brother and I have not met a single sibling on her side as she passed away in 2011. My Aunt bought me this kit for Xmas and I will be awaiting the results over the next few weeks!!!
I was adopted and finally took the DNA test I was given. Mostly I just wanted to find my real cultural identity. Unlike Mandy, I was super nervous, but did the same thing. Just clicked around for a long time (even filmed it!) and THEN found there were biological connections. The whole thing is so crazy to me. This is a sweet story. Happy for them!
On my 43rd birthday I found out I had a baby sister that even our father never knew about. My (our) brother had passed away 11 yrs ago so finding a sister was not just a shock but a complete blessing.
I rec'd my 23andme results back about two weeks ago and had a real shock. It turns out that i have been immediately matched with someone who could be my half brother. Like a 97%match. Wow.. I am blown away by this. I have attempted to make contact with no response. Now I am feeling rather sad. I guess i should be patient
You guys just inspired me to get this done. I have an older half sister who I've never met, and have no idea where she is. I've been searching all over the social media sites to see if I stumble across anything, but never have any luck. I don't know if this is gonna work out, but it's worth the shot! You guys are amazing!
Found my biological father thanks to 23andme. Unfortunately he passed in 2008 but I got some precious pictures of him. Really helps with closure to know definitely who he was. Thanks.🙏🏼💜
This legit just happened to me. I was adopted as a baby and I got a 44.7% match to a sister. We got in contact and we’re both a little cautiously optimistic but we’ve ordered a sibling dna test kit from another company to be sure
im glad for 23and me. I was also connected to a half brother I never knew about because of matches made on the website. which led me to my father and via info from him I located my brother :)
I have ordered a 23andme DNA test, results are pending. I took a DNA test because my father's father is unknown. I am thrilled to know about my Y chromosome lineage and the possibility of finding relatives. My father did not know about his father, he was born in 1943 during WWII in France. Unfortunaltely he died in 2000 before DNA testing for individuals.
I knew for years that i had two sisters somewhere, we were all put up for adoption at birth. My parents told me that could not afford any more children when they were born. so for my 60th birth day i took a 23 and me test and got back a match of 25 percent for Trisha Tears just flowed from my eyes,, I had found one of my sisters!, and she grew up one state over from me though we were adopted in Germany. we have alot in common similar interests and oddly, similar hand writing. she is four years and one day younger. since she is my little sister, just to make her laugh i send her some new barbie dolls every few months. I wish i cold find ans EZ bake oven!
I recently completed 23 and me to help somebody find out who their family members are and she came up as a 20% match to me with centimorgans of 1491. It did not solidify any answers and kind of made things a little bit more difficult to figure out. We were sure she was likely my half Aunt, meaning likely my grandpa had a child with someone other than my grandma because most people in our family had already suspected it but when I contacted 23andMe they said that she is not a half that she is a full aunt but my grandma would have been about 50 years old and there's no way she would have been pregnant at that age and nobody in our huge gigantic family not know. Any suggestions? If it helps, my mom is actually 42 years older than I. Perhaps that makes results shift a bit?
