What absolutely kills me is when Wilhelm and Simon stop kissing at the end when Felice and Sara interupt them to ask if he is going with them, Wilhelm looks so much younger. He genuinely looks like the weight of the world has been ripped from his shoulders and looks like a happy teenager rather than a teenager having to act like a grown man.
"That's almost like he viewed Simon as working for him." You are so spot on. That along with how Simon has been looking at the servant lady the whole time in this castle. He's thinking the same.
19:19 Literally that’s one of the things that I love abt this show, everyone’s choices have consequences eventually and it doesn’t just go away or get wrapped up too quickly but instead becomes part of the storyline and it makes the whole thing seem more realistic
Re the lake scene. Remember this is Sweden, which is way north. Hillerska is probably a few hours outside Stockholm so the same latitude as Anchorage, AK, so whilst not in the Arctic per se where you have the midnight sun, summer days would be very long with the sun setting around 10 pm. Likewise the sun rises really early so the lake scene could have been 10 pm or 3 am, neither of which would be entirely unreasonable.
I really appreciate your nuanced takes on the characters and the motivations behind their actions. Agreed with what you said about being proud of Simon when he ended things, honestly if Simon never set that boundary, I probably would have felt a bit icky about them ending up together. Wilhelm needed that wake up call to see that the way he was treating Simon wasn't okay. I especially love the things you've said about Sara and August throughout all three seasons, unfortunately I haven't heard too many people acknowledge that their dynamic isn't very black and white.
Wille has taken a stand before and I think that's why Simon is upset with Wille. He told the whole country that he thought unexamined traditions were wrong. He told them about his queerness. Though they shouldn't be, these are political debated stances - and they have had consequences. The school's harmful traditions being examined in the press and leading to the restrictions in the school, and Simon's life being abused in the public. So, him deciding now to stand with Vincent for his own gain, and not stand with Simon is significant. Significant that Simon chooses to go back to the sit in and stand by Wille, going against his principles. Wille is still learning about what he himself is capable of doing and what he can push back against. He's begun his journey of self-discovery this year through his relationship with Simon. I have hope for his progress going forward.
2:20 I may be alone in this opinion, but up to this day I don't think Simon's 'I don't want to be anyone's secret' after Wille told him they 'simply' couldn't be seen together after his statement implied 'call me your boyfriend on national television without a warning'... Anyway, I enjoyed your reactions, your thoughts and conclusions, and empathy towards the characters. Thank you!
Rosh and Ayub are talking about Simon deleting himself. He is concerning himself with the Royal Court's opinions about his song writing - which goes against his principles. He's not doing what he's best at for a present for Wille, and him deleting his accounts, is also deleting a form of communication with his friends and being able to engage with what they are doing in their day to day lives on social media. He is slowly drifting away from who he is and what he values, as a way to ease the relationship he has with Wille. I'm so glad Simon has his friends who feature in a lot more scenes this season. They help to remind him who he is whilst he's being demonised in the public domain and being absorbed into the elites of Wille's world.
Lundsbergs Skola, the real boarding school Hillerska is based on, won the appeal, the expensive lawyers they hired found a loophole and the school was actually allowed to reopen only 9 days after closing.
Great reaction, as always. I didn't know the finale would release a week later, so you can imagine how I felt sitting on that cliffhanger 😬 Luckily I watched ep 5 a day before 6 came out, but still. I truly thought they'd be ending the show with them being broken up and I was so mad until I found out the very end which made me happy. And although I'm very glad and grateful they did it that way, I almost feel like keeping them broken up would have made sense. Like, Wilhelm standing up for himself and gaining his freedom but Simon not "taking him back", cause they had more issues.. Still loved the ending of course.
i just keep thinking how the duke is a bland person like, he literally has no personality nor opinions (his answer to wille's rage speech is "idk" like??) and that would've been simon's future had he stayed silent and accepted a life with the crown prince- simon!! an outcast because he speaks his mind in a world of privileged people and they, even wille who initially fell for him cause he wasn't afraid to speak up, wanted him to just sit pretty in silence smh
35.24 Sara's jumper is so cosy looking and in Simon's favoirite colour. That hug must have felt so good. I think it's significant that Sara has been wearing Simon's colour all season, showing her solidarity to him.
Thank you so much for reacting to this amazing series!!! I’m so sad for it to have ended, but I’m very grateful for it!!! This literally the best ending we got for our Young Royals!!! 🧑🏻🦰🧑🏻🦱👑🏳️🌈🇸🇪🥹❤️💔❤️🩹🩷💜💙
I really enjoyed your take on this. You see so many layers to all of this, more than most reactors. While many got upset with Simon for leaving Wille at a tough time, your observations about how Wille's actions and what this means for Simon felt spot on and illuminating
Little piece of YR trivia, the woman playing the guitar for Wille's family birthday greeting is Lisa Ambjörn the series creator and head writer. Also note, Wille's father is not the King his title is Duke ( I think). Thank you for reacting to this series, it is truly the definition of art.
"Why are we calling stress and anxiety, darkness?" So true!! The shame this family has around poor mental health is heartbreaking. There's no room to be human. I'm remembering season one, Wille, having a panic attack after holding hands with Simon at the movie night. Then, reading the plack on the wall about being the legacy of the school. He must have been so ashamed of his inability to keep this 'weakness' in control, when he's meant to be a role model. This was even before he became Crown Prince. I hope, going forward, he and his parents learn to give themselves grace. Thinking also about Simon's suggestion that he chooses a charity foundation that's around mental health in young people. Wille would have seen that as too revealing and been ashamed to be associated with that. I hope when he's older, in his college years, Wille does choose a MH charity to support on his platform as Prince.
I also waited for the finale before watching the 5th ep bc I did not need a cliffhanger in the final season. 😂 re: 13:16 totally agree. In the episode with the petition, when August asked Wille to sign it he said “I’m doing this to help you.” I think August was trying to prevent it from getting out about Erik’s involvement, bc August did love Erik too.
I found this show after watching season one of Heartstopper because Netflix recommended it and I was like I recognized Simon. I was like I think he's a singer. I'm so happy I got to enjoy this series. I felt like Wilmon was our more mature, grown, exotic version of Nick and Charlie. I'm going to miss this cast being together 😢😢😢
Yeah, regarding Simon's plaid pants. He had them in season 2 as well. And SO many people thought they were pajama pants lmao. They aren't. But they absolutely very much do look like a lot of pajama pants that we wear here in North America.
I cried almost the whole last episode it was perfect 😭 and I found Sara’s storyline with her dad very realistic and relatable especially as the oldest kid and daughter of a dad with an addiction. You want to be excited and assume everything’s fine again when there’s good moments but the reality is it’s always up and down and that’s a really hard thing to be around so I understand 100% why she was reluctant to accept he was genuinely happy without alcohol. It’s one of the best portrayals of that perspective I’ve seen 🥺
Omg I remember when I recommended this to you!! I just finished watching this season, which I was totally prepared to give up on after last season and I'm so glad I didn't cause this truly was the perfect ending
@33.55 "he needs to work through it on his own." A call back to what Simon said to Wille at their break up the end of Season 1. Paraphrasing Simon: "You want things to always be on your terms. You need to know what you want. Take your time. I respect that. But you need to do this on your own."
Re the scene where Wille has to decide what is foundation is going to be about: at the end of ep5, when he rips a new one to his parents, he makes it clear that they asked him to hide who he is. Bc if that’s one thing he is sure about, that’s the fact that he is queer. He knows it. The problem has always been being a prince, that’s what stopped him from being himself. That scene was not about him showing that he doesn’t know who he is from that pov, he might not know who he is from like other aspects of his life: beliefs, likes/dislikes, hobbies, etc.. but he does know who he is. Which is also what makes him spiral when he discovers that Erik used a video of two boys to humiliate the first years. He just doesn’t want him nor his identity to be used.
I'm so in love with your reactions because I feel like you're one of the few people who really tried to understand Simon's side and that is so important to me, like yes, Wille has his own struggles but that doesn't mean Simon's pain should be offuscated by them, which is actually the only thing that I don't like much about the other two seasons. I don't know if you agree with me on this but in the last seasons Simon's emotions were so overlooked, like even when the video leaked, which was devastating to him cause you know he was the one visible, they had the major focus on wille and this, maybe, doesn't allow people to understand Simon's side of things properly. That's why I love this season so much, it gave us a focus on Simon and I was here for it actually (I cried the whole season but yeah)
Love your reaction, so fun! Great insight! I'm not sure the headmistress isn't evil. Didn't like how she spoke to Felice ... And even though these students are spoiled af and can't seem to comprehend the risk she school is facing, I do think it's extreme with a 7pm curfew for 18 and 19 year olds. In a way, they are being punished for doing exactly what they've been told to do by their alumni parents and older siblings. Also, I'm not sure the aspect of Swedish graduation tradition translates well here - it might seem like it's a Hillerska thing on the show, but graduating high school/upper secondary school is a very celebrated thing in Sweden, it's like this rite of passage that almost everyone does. The caps they wear in ep 3 - almost everyone has one of those, and there's lots of local traditions in every town, for months. Everyone gets to participate too, so I get why they're worried about missing that, even though these kids are being really obnoxious about it 😂
Simon is not a people pleaser. He is forgiving and emphatic of course (great qualities), but he speaks up for himself and sets boundaries without hesitation (also great qualities).
Thank YOU for being on this rollercoaster of emotions and for loving the show as much as we do🥹💜! Would be so nice if you could Watch the documentary here as well (if you didn’t Watch it allready) cause it’s so beautiful❤️🩹. Love from Sweden🫶🏼
The Marvels reaction is a must!!! Iman Vellani is a gem!!!
What absolutely kills me is when Wilhelm and Simon stop kissing at the end when Felice and Sara interupt them to ask if he is going with them, Wilhelm looks so much younger. Yeah I noticed that, he's goofy smile and fluffy hair!
"That's almost like he viewed Simon as working for him." You are so spot on. That along with how Simon has been looking at the servant lady the whole time in this castle. He's thinking the same.
the acting in this show is so freaking insane, ESPECIALLY considering how young of talents these actors are,,, I'm still so in awe with it all
23:42 Lol I think we all thought they were pajamas 😅😂
i have a pair of pjs just like that so unfortunately i can't see them any other way 😂😭
@@fictionaldarlingI love how they had to defend those pants at the live event.
28:53 I love the way you analyze their conflicts - like understanding that Wilhelm is going through it but that doesn’t minimize what Simon is feeling
19:19 Literally that’s one of the things that I love abt this show, everyone’s choices have consequences eventually and it doesn’t just go away or get wrapped up too quickly but instead becomes part of the storyline and it makes the whole thing seem more realistic
45:51 omg his song! 😭😭😭
34:43 agree!! I've seen so much unnecessary hate to Simon because of the break up

26:08 it's giving Arthur Weasley's "What's exactly is the function of a rubber duck?" question and I'm living for it🤣🤣🤣🤣
34:50 Same I’ve struggled with people pleasing for so long, and every time I see Simon get walked over it breaks me 💔
20:34 i was so fucking pissed! like how dare he drink when he was supposed to drive her to her driving test!

6:23-6:28 i like when he’s quiet which is rare for him, cuz he’s always got something to say
Yes August has grown a lot and the throne is a burden and he knows that now
20:23-20:28 the way my lungs would’ve given up 5 mins into the run, maybe less 😂😂
the montage killed me 😭😭
I also waited for the finale before watching the 5th ep bc I did not need a cliffhanger in the final season. 😂

You are lucky you didn’t get to sit on that clip hanger😭😭

IM SO GLAD U GOT THE SMALL REFERENCES IN EP6
22:17-22:22 it made me cry too! 😭😭

Jess please do X-Men 97. It's bringing the drama!
30:36-30:42 nope, cuz they needed to hear it, no matter how harsh it was. but i feel bad for simon tho cuz he had to just sit there and watch
I know this isn't the most important takeaway from this but August's wikipedia article would be so messed up by the end of this.

Love your end note to ep 5 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾all of it 💜💜💜And yes even with all that Simon can do for Wille it isn't going to be enough.

I was going to share some things but you'll get to see it when you watch the Young Royals forever documentary. You will cry.
23:43-23:49 i thought they were pajamas too 😂😂
I cried the whole episode too…great recaps
