As a war vet with survivors guilt, this movie hit me hard at various points. I never in my life thought about experiencing the world from the view of a failed kamikaze pilot. And the way they tore down Western movie tropes 🤌🏾 masterful. A direct shot at Disney marvel on my opinion.

This movie is good because, even if you removed Godzilla completely and replaced him with a tornado or tsunami or some other catastrophic event, the characters and the story itself would not be diminished. They would stand perfectly on their own. This is why so many people are enjoying this movie, it transcends being just a monster movie.

This movie stays with you LONG after you leave the theater. In an era of cash grab films that are pretty much written on auto pilot with no heart or soul along comes Godzilla Minus One to remind us that great movies can exist if the production team truly cares. That even a film about a giant lizard can be a masterpiece if you focus on what truly counts: a great story filled with heart and flawed characters you can root for as you watch them endure and grow. I’m writing this a few hours after watching the movie and I truly feel like I witnessed something special.

I was in seventh grade when Star Wars came out. It was ALL we talked about for months and months.
One thing that set it apart was its themes of heroism and optimism. The country had just gone through a decade of decline and failure, and we needed a reminder that doing great things was still possible.
Star Wars provided that reminder, right at the time we needed it most. Maybe Godzilla Minus One is a reminder that great films can still be made, even in this era of Hollywood flops and CGI overload.

I'm 46. Terminator 2 Judgment day made me cry back in the day. It was about the father-son aspect between a fatherless child and a machine that would never leave him. And the AI element that was soon to come.
"Now I know why you cry, but it's something I can never do" That's deep!
I was raised without a dad too. That's deep for a kid like me who's dad never cared about him.

This movie was fantastic. I can’t explain how I was actually drawn into the movie numerous times because of the great acting. The way they treat Godzilla was truly a show of respect for the character. There was times I could see the weakness in some of the special effects but I actually didn’t care. I was so drawn into the movie I didn’t give a dang. I’ve watched all of the Godzilla movies and I truly believe this is the best one. None of the previous movies has the effects on me this one had…thank you for this movie…

I love how you bared your emotions over this film. That was the biggest surprise with my 2 (soon 3) viewings of this film. In the second viewing I paid more attention to Godzilla’s look because on first viewing I was watching the crowds of humans during the trampling scenes because I CARED about them! Because they were made real through the amazing writing of the preceding human scenes. Clearly the best film this year. Emotions in a Godzilla film!

You can't say it but I will. I am a combat Vet that lost a woman I loved 15 yrs ago to cancer and I've lost a child. This movie had me shed tears and the little actress that played Akiko broke me the two times she cried. But it also shows a theme that people must have in life. Yes, life at times is Godzilla in this film, and you think you are being punished for actions in your life, but life finds a way and life is a gift, so don't waste it

Your summary here hit on all the spots. My favorite line “ It’s your war finally over now?” What a great line and message at the end!!!!! I didn’t expect this film to be a serious film and an emotional film. I cried a few times watching this. My 9-year-old son is the biggest Godzilla fan ever and he has watched all of the Japanese Godzilla classic films so I had to take him and my dad to see it yesterday and they love this film. This film is deep and emotional so it might be hard for a young child to grasp but he was just crazy about Godzilla himself and he loves the family story. I'm not a Godzilla fan so when my son said Toho made this film I was like huh? What?? No idea? 😂😂😂 I swear my baby knows his stuff man!!!

I love when movies have deeper meanings, layers and messages to be heard. It's a total shame that far too many people view movies for the surface level aspects only and can't be bothered to think deeper into it.
This movie was great. I've become jaded and negative about movies these last couple years because it's been nothing but garbage from Disney. This was needed and refreshing.

Hands down one of the best movies I've seen in a long while. Being a veteran, I found it easy to identify with the pilot. I understood his anguish and fear that tormented him endlessly. It was a very powerful story, masterfully told even though it was all done in subtitles. F-ING SUBTITLES!!! And I was brought to near tears more than once! WTF, this is NOT supposed to happen in a Godzilla film!! This is a film about loss, redemption, and recovery with Godzilla busting buildings and causing mayhem only to push the main story along. Brilliantly made, pleasure to watch. This movie EARNED my money, it did not snatch it from my hand and run away leaving me empty.

I have seen it twice already. Once in a Malco MXT-Atmos, which is kind of Malco's answer to IMAX, and once in a standard Atmos theater. I recommend IMAX or something like MXT. The sound is crazy in those. Godzilla's roar was deafening and almost scary. The standard Atmos just didn't have the same punch.
My wife and I both cried through most of the film. She is only a casual fan of Godzilla, and she said it was the best film of the year. For me, it's the best Godzilla film made since the original, and may have even surpassed it. Easily in my top films period.
**MILD SPOILER AHEAD, THOUGH IT WAS IN THE TRAILER**
When Shikishima collapsed to his knees and screamed at Godzilla in frustration, despair and hopelessness as ashes rained down on him, oh man that gave me chills.
