Man, they always bring the wood and slap but they fused with the orchestra seamlessly here. That whole show deserves a reaction! No surprise, legends and they are always in my rotation. Try Wherever I May Roam for more Metallica greatness. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
buy the S&M double CD or watch the concert...they are both awesome. This was a great song from it, but to hear all their classic songs with an orchestra was amazing. Great job you two!
This is my favorite song from this album. The whole performance is a masterpiece! I’ve seen Metallica many times but nothing compares to this. Nothing!
Oh man, the entire SM concert that this version comes from was simply incredible!! 'Fuel' & 'Memory Remains' from this show with the orchestra are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was a senior in his when the first S&M concert aired on VH1. I was, and still am, a lifelong Metallica fan. From the very first note of this concert it was absolutely mindblowing.
Metallica with the San Francisco symphony is beyond epic. You guys would love the entire S&M album. It's a whole album of their classic songs and 3 new songs written for that album
I absolutely loved when Metallica did their concert with the Symphony/Orchestra. I was a band geek back in Junior High/High school and I appreciate Classical Music. I think that there’s a lot of Heavy Metal-Hard Rock music and musicians that definitely are influenced by great artists like Mozart, Bach, etc. One of the GOATS would be Eddie Van Halen. I would love to see y’all text to Metallica’s Bleeding Me or Outlaw Torn (with the Orchestra). 🤘🏽
I'm pretty sure Jimi Hendrix was influenced by classical too. Randy Rhodes was. Steve Vai I'm sure is. Many of the great guitarists definitely are. Kirk Hammett I know is too
One of the most lovers of classical music was the organ player Jon Lord of Deep Purple. He was one of the first rock musicians experimenting heavy with orchestra, search for his "Sarabande" ( made together with composer/conductor Eberhard Schoener) But also some early Purple falls into this category - 'April' is such a great piece.
@@vinniedixon1140 Oh yes he did too. Yeah if had been alive and been apart of this this would have been even more amazing. Jason Newsted did great but Cliff Burton would have taken it to another level. I'd love to see what Rob Trujillo would do with it
Maestro Michael Kamen composed the scores for the likes of Highlander, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Disney's The Three Musketeers, X-Men, etc....
Oh yeeahh! Another of my suggestions made❤! I love Metallica and all this concert is incredible! Please do more and more Metallica! ...And Justice for All, Unforgiven II and III!!! You won't regret!
I've suggested this one for a while. Thank you for the reaction. If you like this you should try Apocalyptica (the band). They are a Finnish symphonic metal band. They started out playing Metalica songs on cellos. That was what their early albums were. They broke out in 2007 with their album Worlds Collide when then started pairing with lead singers from other bands (they don't have a lead singer in the band). They've had vocalists like: Lzzy Hale from Halestorm - Talk to Me Corey Taylor from Slipknot - I'm Not Jesus Adam Grontier from Three Days Grace - I Don't Care Brent Smith from Shinedown - Not Strong Enough Gavin Rossdale from Bush - End of Me Lacey Sturm from Flyleaf - Broken Pieces
This was an amazing collaboration and album I feel like these songs they chose for this felt like that’s how they wanted to sound but they weren’t known and or big enough to collaborate with the San Francisco symphony. Simply amazing album I’m with you buddy 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Great choice! This album was so groundbreaking for them, very bold. There is a whole genre now called "symphonic metal", which includes Nightwish and Within Temptation. The symphonic version of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" from this album is great too.
A big thanks to Micheal Kamen, orchestra director here, died only 2 years after this performance (R.I.P.), he was a giant in this things. I remember he when direct the famous concert in Berlin a year after the wall falling down, "THE WALL LIVE IN BERLIN" the name of this concert . I saw this concert live on tv...... was EPIC.
This is probably the best song that came out of the orchestra collaboration. Other up tempo songs like “Fuel” felt slowed down, but this show was classic. It’s been awesome watching Amber’s heavy metal journey.
This concert was primo!👌No Leaf Clover is one of my faves from it & I believe they debuted it at this concert. Michael Kamen, the conductor, was a genius. He wrote the orchestral music for each track to accomodate the orchestra, & as you can hear, the sound was absolutely phenomenal!
No Leaf Clover is one of my top three favorite Metallica songs.....maybe even higher. Love this one! Glad you reacted to it. Hope you do more Metallica soon.
This is my FAVORITE song, from one of my favorite bands. The S&M (symphony & Metallica) album is absolutely impeccable and this was composed specifically for this collaboration. Unfortunately this song doesn’t get as much play because it’s hard to do it justice live (backing track instead of touring with a full symphony). Love love love the way the music follows the emotion and the feel of impending train come through.
Jay & Amber, you'd love Robert Cray's “Strong Persuader"!!! An outstanding singer/guitarist up there with BB King and SRV!! Y’all loved his “Smoking Gun”!!! He did an album, ‘Showdown’, with Blues greats Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland!!
Another example showing us why Metallica is permanently needed in our lives to make life even better…42 years of dominating World Music setting standards so many young musicians through the years have tried to aspire to…LEGENDS & TITANS….( do I need to say MORE METALLICA) ? 😉
No Leaf Clover is only found on the S & M album. Performed together with the San Francisco orchestra. This album was pretty unique in it's sounds paired with the orchestral instruments.
Love your reactions to the mighty Metallica! I started listening to them 26 years ago and was hooked from day 1. Seen them 9 times in concert and am lucky enough to have half a dozen guitar picks and a drumstick Lars handed to me at home. I once heard this song without the orchestra, it was weird but still awesome. Keep up the fine work! Cheers from Hart, MI!
I love when James sings that word “comes” which James sings in a high note and sounds off key. It reminds me of Peter Brady of the Brady Bunch, when his voice is changing, as he becomes a teen. They have to sing a song, so they have him sing a word as his voice is changing. Who remembers that episode?
Our group of friends (5 couples) and their young kids (8-12 yrs old) rented a big house in Outer Banks. Huge home theater. We fried the sound system on day one watching the DVD of this show.
Metallica performed twice with the San Francisco Symphony. This is the first with Maestro Michael Kamen conducting in 1999. The second was in 2009. Both awesome🥰
A few years ago the wife and I drove 3 hrs. to San Fran and saw S&M 2 on a Friday night, flew to Vegas Sat. morning and saw Def Leppard Sat. night. Awesome weekend.
The entire concert is available on a double album, the S and M album. Symphony and Metallica. They played most of their big hits with the symphony’s backing. You can redo any of your favorite songs with the S and M version. They are all awesome.
this bands early music fits with this classical vibe with horns and flutes and standup bass some of their earlier albums did have some nice progressive elements and their are perhaps 3-4 songs off load and reload that would fit nicely take bleeding me the outlaw torn and reload low man's lyric
With you guys reviewing so much Metallica, I wanted to suggest that you next do one of their songs with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. It was released as a dvd called Metallica S&M. Seeing as you both love orchestra's when their included into songs, I thought this would be a nice way to view your next Metallica song. My recommendation would be either “Master of Puppets” which was recently made popular again from the NETFLIX series Stranger Things or their song called “Battery”. Either of these are older classics. Another great Metallica song you guys should review is "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)".
This was the greatest Metallica concert I'd ever been to hearing Master of puppets with the San Francisco orchestra was like I entered heaven and I remember hearing the original version in 1986 I was 11 lol but this is the high point of the Metallica concerts I've been to
EVERY single one of their concerts always starts with the theme from "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" - when you hear that, you're about to get your hair blown back.
This is a full concert. This was a new song recorded especially for this concert. You need to listen to some of their best songs done with a symphony in the background. The live DVD is amazing and they did a 20th anniversary concert a few years ago.
The orchestra understood the assignment
This concert was released as a live double album called S&M back in the day. This whole show had reimagined arrangements of all your favorite songs.
" The soothing light at the end of your tunnel is just a freight train coming your way." Great lyrics
Metallica being terrifying since 1981
I use that saying all the time.
"Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, Was just a freight train coming your way, yeah"

This has to be my absolute favorite song from them.
I agree with you dear Floor Jensen.
This is the BEST OF for Metallica for most fans, Everything on this album is Perfect.
The whole entirety of S&M is just phenomenal … one of my fave music docs

They've reacted to Wherever I may roam in the past. They loved it of course!

Un gran trabajo y muy bien mezclados los dos estilos musicales, sinceramente es una obra de arte en toda regla, saludos
This entire performance was a masterpiece. I was there and I can’t explain how we all felt. When that oboe comes in…..
Nothing better then to see people experiencing Metallica
This is my favorite song from this album. The whole performance is a masterpiece! I’ve seen Metallica many times but nothing compares to this. Nothing!
Musicalmente es una obra de arte, te guste o no el estilo, está perfectamente unida y eso de por si ya es todo un logro, me encanta, saludos
I saw this live at S&M 2. This song kicks so much as the orchestra just takes it to another level. 🤘
This is the song that turned me onto Metallica. ❤
‘Bleeding Me’ from this exact concert is a must listen
So is the outlaw torn
Oh man, the entire SM concert that this version comes from was simply incredible!!
'Fuel' & 'Memory Remains' from this show with the orchestra are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My favorite ones are Call Of Ktulu, The Thing That Should Not Be, Bleeding Me, Of Wolf and Man, Wherever I May Roam and Until It Sleeps
@@makaveli8809 God the way that James sounds like such an evil psychopath in "The Thing That Should Not Be" is terrifyingly gorgeous!
Been waiting for more Metallica!!
Back then, we definitely weren´t ready for that, Metallica completely blew us with that song.

A great pump up song by Metallica is “Fuel”…. It will get your heart racing and fist pumping.
Or a speeding ticket
You would love the full S&M concert. Also check out some of their instrumentals. "The Call Of Ktulu", "Orion" & "To Live Is To Die" are all brilliant.
This is one of my favorite songs from this album, along with -Human!!!
Still gives me goosebumps. But I would love to hear it for the first time again 😊 you guys are lucky!

Metallica with the San Francisco symphony is beyond epic. You guys would love the entire S&M album. It's a whole album of their classic songs and 3 new songs written for that album

That orchestra just raises this song to another level.
This is a perfect Metallica song 👊😎
This song makes my heart race, but in a good way, and the cherry on top is the mystical feeling you get 😊
