A lot of the older fans don't like The Black Album, but being a fan of theirs since 1986 I think it's a great Album. And The Unforgiving is one of the best songs on it. Keep on enjoying new music no matter what kind it is.

One minor correction, it should be 'I dub thee Unforgiven'. Thee being an old word for you, referring to society in this song, or the people who forced the character into their mold.
Also, Jay, there is nothing wrong with loving all music but preferring heavy (that's where I'm at) and Amber, there is nothing wrong with loving all music but preferring soft. Eclectic musical taste is the best way to live.

This song is about about James Hetfield and the struggles he had with religion-related to his mom’s death. His relatives did not want to give James’s mom the treatment she needed because they thought God would help her through it. He starts to question the legitimacy of religion.

I thought that was “The god that Failed”

    • @specialteams28
      @specialteams28 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

Hetfield didn’t question the legitimacy of religion. He question the legitimacy of his parents’ chosen faith of Christian Science, a new age “religion” that popped up not too long ago. In fact Hetfield’s beliefs can be described as what experts on the matter call agnostic. He believes in a higher power but doesn’t yet understand the nature and purpose of that higher power. In his own words from an interview two years ago,
“I believe in a higher power, yes. I don’t know… he, she, it… whatever… I see it everywhere. It is everything to me. And if I choose to see it, it makes me feel better. If I think I can do better [than this higher power], it never works. [Laughs]” Hetfield is religious.

The God That Failed is about his mother’s Christian Science nonsense. The Unforgiven is about an old man who has lived his life the way others expected him to or told him to and now that he sees death approaching he is realizing all the regret he has at all the things he wanted to do but didn’t.

I don't know who suggested doing the lyric video but the official video the band made has very powerful imagery that goes with the song. This album might be what could be considered a crossover album, it still retains some of their heavy sound but it's not as heavy as their previous albums. It leans more into the rock side than the metal side. The album was a huge commercial success for the band and opened them to a larger audience with tons of radio and MTV airplay.

Each verse reflects a different age and his struggles with his Dad leaving, religion, Mom dying and how he fit into the world at each interval. I remember listening to it on the way home from Denver to Colorado Springs and reflecting in that explanation.... I thought it was brilliant actually. And soul crushing atthe same time.

For HARD Metallica, you want to listen to The Four Horsemen, Jump in the Fire, Hit the Lights, Seek & Destroy, Metal Militia, so pretty much the whole Kill 'Em All album, the first one. The most thrash metal album. Fight Fire with Fire from Ride the Lightning is also amazing.
That and the next albums are more speed metal and getting into the long, riff heavy but musically very intelligent songs.
The Metallica album (known as the Black Album) is more mainstream and is very divisive amongst fans. The next albums are a search for a sound, perfectly explained in Some Kind of Monster, a documentary about them. Essentially a live group therapy session, but very interesting. They're sort of back to their roots now.

Kudos for braving the journey to being your true self. I know it won't be an easy ride, but you WILL meet folks that love and treasure you if you haven't already. Just remember: you are one of a kind, and just like everyone else you ARE special. Love and support from a Cali rocker!

(SYMPHONIC METAL) From one Okie to another, "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish is something y'all need to hear. It has the rock, metal, symphonic sounds and one of the best female vocalists EVER! It could easily be used as a music score for a movie! It will lead you down a rabbit hole. Choose the lyric video from the 2013 Wacken concert.

If you want to bring Amber to the light, try to have her listen to For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ride By Lightning, Master of Puppet, Fade to Black, and of course Orion and Call of Ktulu. Metallica will inevitably grow on her.

A long time back I was at a soccer tournament held in fields adjacent to the football stadium where Metallica was playing that night. They were setting up and tuning, and started to play and I swear that I was about 500 yards away and the trees I was standing by started shaking from their volume. I could feel the bass resonate through my body. I can't imagine being stage side!!! Amazing...

You should never label anybody until you get to know them, A lot of people label me as a nerd just because I like to study things in space but the people that know me know I like to rock and I have played guitar in several bands over the years. You can't judge a book by it's cover, you have to read the book to know what it is about and the same with people. You can't judge a person by the cover, you have to get to know that person to really understand who that person is.

He struggles with his how he was raised. Christian Science family and his Mom died from cancer and never went medical treatment. God was going to cure her, he was 16 when she passed away and he ended up living with his older brother. If I’m remembering right the song The God That Failed is about his life and losing his Mom.

Even at their "hardest," Metallica is a bunch of incredibly talented fellas who write really well, play even better, and they're just *chef's kiss*. Always highly melodic, and to me even meditative with these steady beats, whatever the speed. Metallica fuckin' relaxes me. I've gotten to see them live a couple of times, just excellent. I like to say I'm pretty sure James didn't even know he was a baritone till the 90s. He's one of a long list of singers who fucked up his vocal cords and had to learn proper technique when recovering.

You two make one of the best reactions I've ever seen in internet so far ! Thank you for M.j. (Its my idol ) for AC/DC, Guns&Roses ... and NOW for Metallica reactions... for every single one that you have done so far ! You don't just hear the music you react on, you 2 are geting inside every melody and try to really understand and feel it with you souls .. Unforgiven is my special favorite song because of someone from my family who past away when I was a kid and because of him I know that kind of music ... so its very special for me and yes, I know Metallica its not a band that everyone woud understan ,so for me to see pure reaction like this here...really makes my heart full of good emotions ! Thank you both for this ! Keep it up !
