I LOVE thrifted fabric. Never did it before I started making masks in 2020, but now I have an extensive collection of thrifted fabric, primarily bed sheets, pillowcases and shams, duvet and futon mattress covers, tablecloths, and a few curtains. I find them most often at garage/yard/moving/estate sales and secondhand/thrift/charity/consignment shops. Now, as the mask project phased out, I’m making my first baby-steps into making clothes, using patterns, and drafting patterns. I’m thrilled to be here, and thrilled that you will be joining my list of go to “chaotic good crafters”, which includes Rachael Maksy, Abby Cox, and Welsh Jimmy. You’ve all inspired me and are fun to ‘hang out with’ while I’m sewing. I’m also loving the Mia/Mia DIY/P&N Homemade ‘You Don’t Have To Be A Tailor’ channels/series here in YT (pretty sure it’s the same woman), but she doesn’t talk, it’s just quick demos).
I love reused fabrics too. With outdoor fabric I made a cape from a 1970s sewing pattern. The rain drops slide off of it, I love it. I have a posting of it on youtube. With stripped curtains I made a Vogue evening gown just to learn the steps the cuts of the pattern with the lines showing me the direction were so cool. I m not so afraid to make errors when I sew when I repurpose fabrics. Keep inspiring.
YES FELLOW UPCYCLER! I love the idea of a cape made with outdoor fabric. I may have to steal that one! I can't tell you how many bedsheet skirts I have and I love them all!
