The rolled card board base will easily collapse if a strike hits anything hard at all and to be effective you would need to be VERY highly trained over many years. There is quite a bit of difference when people just stand there while you are doing strikes and different techniques on them verses them moving and fighting with you. In New York City it's people that you gotta worry about the most... not the weather or the physical exertion of walking out. Best way to escape the island of New York City is by boat. Maybe if you can't beg, steal or borrow a boat then invest in an inflatable kayak or a small one person inflatable raft, for easy storage in a cramped apartment and also easily packing it on foot to the waters edge. Or just a life jacket and swim it. Even if you can walk to a bridge, it will be a free for all. Go by water

    • @albertogonzalez8871
      @albertogonzalez8871 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think you’re Spot on,I always thought about that and I think by water is the only way. Especially if you live in Manhattan. Those bridges and tunnels are gridlocked on a regular rush hour. The only way off that island is bridges or tunnels and they can easily be knocked out. If you’re in the water you’re safe from most people and travel will be possible.

    My former supervisor had to make that extreme uptown hike twice over the years. He was assigned to a lower Manhattan office location that our company had at the time and he resided in Westchester County. During the aftermath of 9/11 as well as the cascading blackout a few years later he had no choice but to start walking several miles uptown to Harlem/Washington Heights neighborhoods before a relative could reach him by automobile to get him the rest of the way. That's roughly a 13 to 14 mile hike but it's unavoidable in the event of an unnatural emergency and public transportation isn't an option.

      @@topdown3660 People said the same thing about a Food Shortage, until it started flying off the shelves during the beginning of corona lol. No More Food was coming in, supplies were severely backed up. A lot of my family were laughing at me months prior for buying Bags of rice, canned goods, Even some TP and invested in a bidet. Because I saw what was happening in other parts of the world. They had the same mindset as you. "That hasn't happened before in my lifetime, it's not gonna happen now". Well it did and whose food were they eating and TP they were using? Whose door were they knocking on for those n95 masks? You guessed it... Events like natural Disasters occur all the time, in some areas more than others. Yet people never learn and try to buy everything up before it's too late. My advice to everyone is to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. That means you're essentially prepared for any disaster. Have enough supplies for everyone's needs for at least a week.

    The best way to bug out of NYC is to simply not be there in the first place. If you have to live there, be ready to get out of there via several different routes. Have a backup plan and have a backup for your backup. I'm not suggesting anyone break the law, but a firearm (preferably legal) would be a real asset. By the time you need it, you'll be beyond caring what the law says.

      Aesops fable stuck, also my grandparents were born in the 30s with real struggles growing up. They understood that nothing was certain except taxes and death 😂 they talked about the benefit of self sufficiency in many things as well. I think the phenomena is the normalcy bias, believing that nothing catastrophic can happen because it has not happened before is illogical. As a single woman I never prepped, but as a mother I would rather die a brutal death then watch my children starve to death. I prep so if shtf I can maintain my morality and humanity, share with other parents too. No protein for a child can destroy them even if they do not starve either. The world is so crazy right now I think following US guidelines on emergency preparedness is advisable.

    • @LETSGETUTILIZED316
      @LETSGETUTILIZED316 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It's not a phenomenon. First it comes from a realization that things can go dreadfully wrong. Also it comes from counting self reliance better than simply depending on the government modern conveniences in society and such and making preparations. Honestly there's an intrigue to it that can be quite addictive. But the government itself is a prepper. They have all sorts of supplies safe locations and protocol as preppers do. It's a security. These days things are plummeting so much and have been that it's only realistic to assume that chaotic events will become much worse. Grant it a lot of preppers get into this at a deep level and sometimes even I find it excessive. But everybody should do some prepping given the realistic possibly that things can go very wrong. Don't merely depend on the grocery stores allowing a food stock to get low every week or 2 and then go back. Get some raw foods considering a well balanced high calorie diet to last a few months and store them properly. It's cheap really. Have some camping and grid power failure supplies like a tent sleeping bag etc. some fire starting supplies candles flashlight and such. Do you have a fire extinguisher or a spare tire? That is prepping. Stay physically fit. Have contingency plans. Learn some basic survival skills rather than relying on the notion that everything is always going to be just fine. And these are basics I feel everybody should pursue especially if you have a family. Imagine having a wife and kids and things get crazy and desperate and throughout all of life a person didn't do any of these things and now doesn't know what to do. Do you want to be that guy who doesn't have any food? Do you want to be that guy who has no idea how to survive in the wild Grow some of your own food and have some seeds maybe. Have some tools. Don't just depend on the mechanic. Learn some diy. It's good to be well rounded. Now the list can go on forever but most of what I mentioned are just basic. This show is painting a narrative that preppers l are in constant fear but most of them aren't fearful at all but simply aware and rather resilient. Food and water, basic wilderness supplies, a few power outage supplies, basic survival skills, a few contingency plans, and whatever you find to fit your circumstances on just a basic level. If you're in the north and have extreme winters a sleeping bag can save your life. But even if you live in the south like me it's wise to have one because there was a grid failure 2 years back during sun zero weather that almost never comes in Texas and people literally froze to death and we're burning their wooden furniture to stay warm. But a sleeping bag would have saved their life without a fire. And I know this because last winter I was camping in 8°F weather and I didn't need anything but a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad to separate me from the cold ground and I was cozy warm watching youtube videos without any need of a fire and slept 7 hours. Make some basic preparations. Never solely depend on others.

It's an island with like 2 dozen bridges and tunnels that a million people would be trying to cross at the same time, and that's if they were letting people out. I say a folding bike fitted with concealed survival stuff like a detachable left handlebar with a built-in knife, and bolt cutter. A detachable right side handlebar with perhaps a hidden axe with a hammerhead, the chassis tubing filled with water to drink with a hidden faucet, etc. Bring the bike anywhere you go. I also think that a simple, easy-to-put-on disguise that would give the impression that you are not to be messed with would also help like a special forces tattoo or jacket or whatever to avoid getting attacked.

    Also want to point out that yes it may be faster to move in a straight line to get to your destination. But you also end up on straight streets for a long time. In the event of avoiding people you wanna take back streets and move under the cover of darkness. If your bug out plan relys on an event such as an earthquake causing a nuclear meltdown. Then youre gonna have a lot more challanges living in a city like new york. A lot more people. A lot more danger. Your best bet is to consider getting into the woods. Although other people might be thinking the same. There are tons of places you can dissapear into and never be found

  • @3peckeredgoat735
    @3peckeredgoat735 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Prepping in NY seems futile, the one city you'd need a gun to bug out of is near impossible to get what you need, no way you successfully bug out without a rifle and semiautomatic pistol.

    • @Mr.No-wo2cp
      @Mr.No-wo2cp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Consider high powered semiauto air powered pistols and pepper ball pistols and paintball guns. Paintball guns have like 200 round capacity without reloading... so what they lack in accuracy and lethality they more than make up for by being able to lay down serious suppressive fire. They become downright deadly when substituting metal ball bearings for paintballs and turning up the gas pressure

    • @3peckeredgoat735
      @3peckeredgoat735 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mr.No-wo2cp metal ball bearings are far to heavy for paint or air guns to be lethal. If you have what I need you're going to have to kill me to stop me.

      In most of these cities/states, any thing that fires a projectile (bb, pellet, airsoft, bow, slingshot etc) & most knives over a usable size are illegal to carry. You have to become very inventive (sock with stones in it, rope with weight). Then again in these situations I would not care about legalities to protect me & my family.
