"Music is an art, and it's not a science, there is no better" Well said. Thanks for the reaction!
I guess "Math Metal" doesn't count. 🤓 lol
There is no better, yes. But there are good and bad. And those two bands are in the good bin. No doubt.
Actually, even if you are super duper skilled, you might not be better than one that is not. Not all good music is based on super duper skills.
BAND-MAID is much more skilled and complex. The Warning is totally fantastic as a rock power trio.
Different things, and also different tastes.
It's this kind of sagacity that is going to cripple the Internet.
@@rolandkarlsson7072 I know it's late, but 100% agree. Love B-M, but like The Warning for completely different reasons.
Yes, I also appreciate this view. I love Band-Maid, and the Warning, and so many more.
Dany’s Lzzy open just ROCKS! The collab…HOLY SHIT! A Japanese band and a Mexican band singing in their second language while flawlessly performing rock. Heavenly.
So glad you brought up that the style of play between the two bands is to be celebrated and not pitted against one another. Good stuff!
23:32 Bang on. People hype up The Warning’s live performances over their studio tracks for several reasons, but a big one is that they so obviously love what they’re doing, and that love really is infectious. When you watch the HYCAD concert video and see Pau’s huge smile while she’s smashing her drums into submission, you just can’t help but smile back.
Saiki and Dany's voices intertwine like silk thread
I have to give them credit for their restraint, balancing giving each aspect of each band a flash of spotlight, avoiding overindulgence, ultimately leaving you wanting More🤘🏻
This song could’ve easily been 5 minutes plus, but they kept disciplined & balanced. I’m betting WHEN The Warning & Band Maid play this live, they’ll give the instrumental back & forths/battle a few minutes more to dazzle.
This is my first exposure to Band Maid, the guitarist & bass player really pop, enough for me to investigate further 🔎
That’s a very good description and sums up how I feel about the song….restraint while highlighting aspects instead of trying to cram everything in.
If you want to check out more of Band-Maid and enjoyed the bass and guitar, I’d suggest starting with Manners, Dice, or Hate? live from their channel. Like TW they truly shine during live performances.
I wouldn't be surprised by an extended solo section. It's pretty common for Band-Maid to add those live. "Hate?", "Domination", and "Don't You Tell Me" official live videos are some examples. The live debut in Japan was played pretty much like the studio track, but if they do a show in Mexico together an extended solo section seems very possible.
I saw a different reactor channel where the guy literally wrote down the word 'restraint' in his notes while the song played--for just that reason. They kept the back and forth just right for a perfect radio friendly length rock song.
The collab would not work if both vand would be respected.
I love the two bands from opposite sides of the globe coming together!! This will help Band maid fans discover The Warning and vice versa. Looks like they had a lot of fun
There is a bit in a interview for Billboard where Kobato explains "Po"
By the way, do you know why Kobato ends her sentences with “po”? [Translator’s note: Kobato has a signature way of speaking in Japanese, ending sentences with “po,” an onomatopoeia expressing the call of a pigeon. The kanji for Kobato is “little pigeon.”]
SAIKI (Lead vocals): Tell them why you say “po.” Tell them who you really are.
Kobato: I’m Kobato, meaning I have a little bit of pigeon in me, po. That’s why I end sentences with “po,” which is the sound a pigeon makes, po.
Daniela: So it’s pigeonese. [Everyone laughs] I caught that just now. “Narimashita, po.”
You can also watch the Music Gold Rush interview where she just says straight up that she’s a pigeon, and the host is like, you’re not really a pigeon, and she looks hurt and insists that she is.
@@daaaaaave KuruppPO!! Hahaha...
The 810-year-old little pigeon. :)
Miku just happened to leave out the whole 810 year old, hell-bent on world domination part for this interview.
@leekebot1802 lol😅 I will follow our dear pigeon leader in the glorious world take over.
Probably not clear fpr people who dont know japanese her last name小鳩 literslly means (小ko(small)鳩bato(pigeon))
And in japanese kuruppo is how they describe a pigeons cry
So kobato ends her speach with po
Both guitarists are using PRS, in fact there is an interview on TH-cam that the brand did with both of them.
Q&A with Dany (The Warning) & Kanami (Band-Maid) | PRS Guitars Japan
Miku's is playing her Signature "Flappy Pigeon" Zemaitis. Zemaitis make some of the most beautiful guitars in the world.
Wow. Checking out their website now and their guitars look wild
I thought the collab was solid but I felt like Dany's vocals were subdued intentionally for whatever reason. That is really my only, less then stellar critique. It would have been really sick if the solos were a bit longer.
@@PhilZero exact Miku play with Zemaitis guitar from japan. Signature guitare for her. Never seen this brand of guitare in a music store in Canada.
I think the other main Zemaitis player is Ron Wood from The Rolling Stones
@@williammoye6997 I don't think it was subdued. Both singers were singing in a key higher than normal for them. When singing that high there isn't the room for Dany's normal belts and gravel that she adds.
Misa's last part at the end was very cool, and respectful. It calls back to the end of Survive, and she adds Ale's style of distortion after her solo part was cleaner in the song. The respect in this song is top notch.
6:55 Phil biting his tongue over Paulina again 🥰😂
🤐
Careful Phil I hear Pau hits hard and Slaps. 😅😂
hahah i just noticed it, ohh Phil you in trouble man. Watch out for the chanclas!
@@PhilZero caught in 4K 😂
Let him fanboi, I get it!
You're not getting old Phil (I am old - 61).
I think both bands are the epitome of the best of 60s - 80s rock and the newer music scene.
I really love how you respected both bands and their individual sound! I have seen fans of The Warning trying to only talk about them and making them shine over the Maids and I have seen the opposite where the Madiacs talked only about the maids while completely disregarding TW. Both fandoms need to realize that both bands are incredibly talented and is quite literally the future of rock music! I really love people like you who respected both sides and complimented each member for what they did and how they sound! ♥
I think, of course, the fans of one band or the other know their idols better and talk more about them. However (with very, very rare exceptions) they all don't talk the other band down. They even call people out, who were talking disrespectively of the other band. There is also a good number, who knew and liked both bands before already. So, this is going on way more friendly and polite in the comment section than I was expecting. Esp. as I know the rivalry towards other fangroups.
@@manfredbrosche5661 Agree. I listen to both bands and love them in both styles. Yes l knew they'd met at Aftershock 2022, but not realised they admire each other and will collaborate until the day I see The Warning concert in Haarlem last April. Silly me 🤦
They genuinely love what they are doing, and in parallel, they only do what they love. That's the secret ingredient. They are first and foremost fans of the music they play; they're one of us (okay, three or five of us) enjoying rock and roll, and the fact that they are the ones playing it doesn't matter, not even to them. They and their audiences are fans together. Boy, does that come through!
My week is now complete - Phil Zero’s in the House! DPA 🔥
your comments are on-point to many of us who were disillusioned with the state of rock for so many years. we were lucky bands like these have showed up to to give us hope and what's more, inspire so many young people to play instruments and love the music.
I loved rock growing up, but it got so angsty and angry for so long, I fell off of it. Band-Maid made it fun for me again when I found them last year. The cheesy do your best kind of songs are kind of a theme for them, but they’re so earnest about it, and the music is so interesting, I don’t mind.
Exactly - my "Golden Age" of rock is the Long Seventies, roughly 1968-82, but I feel like we are living through a renaissance right now greater than any time since then. The difference is, this one is flying under the radar of the musical mainstream - you're much less likely to come across bands like these randomly. Fortunately, once you have found one, the community can help you find more...
Then let me suggest one more band (in addition to those discussed, I'm a fan of them all), this is good rock: ONE OK ROCK - Renegades [2023 LUXURY DISEASE JAPAN TOUR] th-cam.com/video/POhYbVtQK_o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MuAVAoik8abGh5Ox
Few things to note:
- In the live show Dany reached those high notes aside Saiki without problem. But it was equally challenging for both and they “thanked” Kanami about the “great” idea.
- During the back and forward of solos, each band play alone. So, while the camera focus on Ale, only Pau and Dany played with some accompaniments by Miku. Same with Dany. So it’s not only what you see on the video.
- The fact that this song sounds so natural speaks about the level of composition these 2 bands have. Kanami had ideas for The Warning and they changed them and both bands agreed and felt more comfortable with the other styles.
Very much how kanami works with bandmaid. Writes the original, takes a lot of feedback and, depending on the track expects the others to write their bits to fit, then in the studio she becomes a lot more assertive to get it right.
@@stevekane4922 that’s pretty much how The Warning works too. Normally Pau started something and then the 3 together change, clean and add to the composition. Both bands follow a similar path with no ego and a lot of team cooperation.
@@renemonroy214 yes that's the message I get. The success of the project was based on that I think.
It's picking up views faster than either of the tracks the two of them released around the same time a month ago. Bandmaid's is on a million, the Warning on 750k. This is on 500k already.
It's funny that you mentioned about Rock becoming so serious at one point. In a recent interview discussing their new album Keep Me Fed, Pau actually said what you said almost verbatim. She said that she thinks that Rock takes itself too seriously sometimes, and they just wanted the new compositions to be fun.
I saw your face Phil when you saw Pau's face at 6:55, you can't hide it
🤐🤐🙈🙈
@@PhilZero😂😂😂
I find this VERY enjoyable. I do not understand the negativity here. Yes I am dyed in the wool The Warning guy but I love discovering BandMaid and thing future collaboration would be great. Excellent work Phil.
Couldn’t agree more, the negativity you see in some of the comments don’t make Sense. I’m a big Maidiac but decided to dive into TW after seeing the video of their meeting at Aftershock. Now I consider myself both a Maidiac and TWA.
My favorite two bands.@@davidpinney4091

both ended up on the helipad getting ready to "fly higher"
I really love how different styles and different types of music - from all over the world - are being combined a lot the last several years.
Yup, grew up with the late '60's, '70's culture of music and The Warning brought back good vibes !!! Have explored many genres of music, and although Rock & Roll is hard to beat, they are all _Great_ and worthy of a listen !!!!! Jazz, Blues, Soul...
Jazz... have you heard Jyoshi Tokyo Groove?

I was a little worried too, even though I know Phil has a life, lol!! Thanks Phil, what a great video 😊
I'd like everyone that loves rock could hear your last part of the video talking about rock.
I agree. Everything after the breakdown of the song should be mandatory listening for all rock fans.
Decided to check TH-cam this morning and saw that a new "Phil" reaction video had just dropped. It made my Saturday morning coffee break so much better listening to your breakdown of BM/TW's Show Them. You are very entertaining and offer excellent technical insight into the vocals and instruments. Don't change anything in your review approach - it works!
ahhh c'mon man!!
I already listen to this song over and over a lot of times before but everytime I watch the official video this song grow stronger!!! It seems they're having so much fun playing together! It's really, really awesome!
Band Maid and The Warning doing Band Maid and The Warning things.
Thank you Phil, you made me appreciate this song way more! I agree with you about the mix. But you're right, this is a song that will be on Band Maids album so I'm pretty sure their producer mixed it.
Not only that, it has surely been masteted to blend in with the sound of all the other songs on that album. BTW, I think , it is amazing and a big compliment, that tjis is not just a stand alone fun collab, but a song, that Band Maid will release officially as a song on their album. And not just as a bonus track or so, they made it a single! Domo arrigato!
Really loved this reaction Phil! Informative and made me laugh out loud five times! Hello from Dallas!
Out of the current set list (even tho played @ wacken) you MUST GO to Queen of the murder scene from lunario and survive from the TED talks (origin of the phrase "you have been warned")
Phil, I wish I could thumb up your reaction x1000. You understand collaboration and how this composition managed to allow each band to have the space to focus and showcase their sounds as individual bands but somehow kill it playing together. It is a genius level collaboration. You NAILED it on the switch up in lead vocals. Also, if listen closely you can even pick out the different sounds of Dany and Kanami's lead guitar parts, Ale and Misa's bass guitars, and even Pau and Akane's drums. Then you have Miku's guitar playing rhythm which has it's own sound and her vocals as well. There are moments where I think Pau and Ale are singing harmony with Dany but its only because I can't detect any accents in those parts.
Was lucky enough to be at their joint concert in Tokyo in June where they live debuted this song
Really hoping that they release an official live video of this from that concert too!
Wowwww I would’ve looooved to be at that show! An official live video would be sooo fire
We know they have filmed it from the snippets released on social media, so I'm really hoping that it gets uploaded sometime soon.
The world is falling in love with nerds/geeks. LOVE listening to a music nerd. Been a Band Maid fan for years (and The Warning fan more recently), and cannot wait to see you go down the Maid rabbit hole. You will be blown away at how much quality music they've released. Quick suggestion: to see the bands personality on stage, check out Freedom live.
This collab blew my mind. We all knew this would be magic and we were not let down. Hoping upon hope we see more from each band and more collabs.
You absolutely rock at this. Please keep making more vids!
jajajaj I loved the olympics logo crossing the screen🤣🤣
Yeah, you summarized pretty well, their sound is refreshing, and brings back that classic rock having fun feeling, they are so professionals though, you see a live concert and you can hear them pretty close to sound perfection (without losing that performance feeling), at least that's what I saw last time in Querétaro.
I do like your videos man, came here of course as a Warning fan but staying because of the way you analyze and expose your point of view, thanks for sharing, I'm also learning from the nerd moments 😁😁
"I loved this because just that little fill that they were each playing, it still sounded true to their individual sounds. So Misa, Kanami, and Akane's parts sounded more Band-Maid, like it was a bit more shreddy, and then Danny, Ale and Pau's parts sounded more Warning, like it sounded a bit more melodic. So this isn't to say that one style is better than the other, but this just shows how cool different styles can sound together. And this also a prime example of how differences in bands and genres and sub-genres should be celebrated instead of trying to rank which one is better. Music is an art, and it's not a science. There is no "better". And as we can see....contrast is a good thing." Well said, Phil Zero.
Yes! It make sense! What are you proposing rock bands? You are not getting old Phill, it’s just getting better 😊❤
I just love reaction like this, really listening to the song and say something meaningful, not just (Yeah, Cool, Great, Awesome). Just my stupid opinion. Already subscribed to your channel!
I don't think there was a key change in the track but over all, Kanami-san wrote the song in a higher key. Both Daniela and Saiki-san don't normally sing in that key. Hmmm... would you mind giving us that key? During the Billboard interview, they didn't mention it.
Oh, Miku-chan is endorsed by Zemaitis whereas Kanami and Daniela are both PRS artists. MISA-san is endorsed by Black Cloud whilst Alejandra is endorsed by Spector. Akane-san uses Tama while Paulina uses DW I believe.
The song is in A minor, from what I can tell.
That Zemaitis guitar is friggin badass 🤘
@@PhilZero Thank you! 🤘🏼👍🏼

"Po" is Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound a pigeon makes. "Kobato Miku", the name of the founder of the band, can sometimes translated in kanji to "small pigeon" ("Ko Hato").
Kanami (lead guitar) is a PRS artist. Miku (rhythm guitar) is a Zemaitis artist.
Awesome! Thanks Phil! Great video!
Excellent analysis. I wish fans of each band, that might not be "fond" of the music of the other, would have the mindset of you and I. That's fine, but be happy for each band and respect the other, because that is what each band thinks about each other to a member.
Well said and couldn’t agree more.
I keep hoping you will react to Revenant by The Warning, it is Pau singing at her best. They do it in the Teatro Metropolitan concert and it is amazing.
Particularly you have a way of seeing things quite simple but very precise, I agree that the bands should show what they like and we will be the fans who join their journey or let them pass. No need to be toxic about it by disagreeing, I like good music and there is no doubt that they are 2 bands that have that very marked.
Ya. You didn't once call it a battle. That's good. They were playing to each other not against each other. I couldn't figure out why people kept saying they were battling. Agreed. The production was different. Ya.
Spot on. Wasnt a battle of the bands. So many people think us vs them.
1. I just love TW because they re-ignited my passion for rock music, without labels..!!!
2. I'm a drummer, but Ale's playing had to do with me getting a bass 🎸 and starting learning it... she is abtrue thunder goddess...
3. It’s because of TW that I discovered Band-Maid and love them inmediatly.!!
So, music in general and specially rock, has the ability to created whatever we wanted, if we put all bullsh*t aside. Rock is life
8:40 And what alot (everyone really) are missing is after Pau's part, we have Saiki and Miku together with great vocals over Flappy Pigeon Z cord strums
Everyone does miss that after pau it's just miku guitar with danni n saiki for like 4 bars , miku has the longest solo of the song
Thank you for the great analysis/reaction to this fantastic collaboration.

Great comments. Always happy to find a reactor who is a trained musician and can articulate the nuances of music. I would be interested in your reaction to Corallium, by Band Maid. Thanks.
What the video (and many reactors) missed is actually during the duel interlude between TW vs BM, in every TW's turn, Pau's playing was very different with Akane. Pau was playing with the toms (no hihat), a style she used in a lot of TW songs, while Akane was playing the usual funk to accompany Misa slapping the bass.
In the cellphone recordings of Tokyo Special Show (I don't think you can find it in YT due to copyright strike, but you can find it on FB) we can see clearer the differences of Pau vs Akane drumming, including the back and forth of the fill ins. I was there watching them live but with all the auditory overload of two powerful bands collabing (my ears were ringing for 2 days) I couldn't catch all the details until the phone recording was released. It was a memorable show, like watching Avengers live in front of your eyes. Musical Goddesses descended to earth❤
Awesome review. Thank you. What amazes me is you have two rock bands from different parts of the world who play different styles of rock music and as far as I know have never played together ( I think the Japan concert was after they made this video ) sound like they have been playing together for years. If you never heard of or never saw either of these bands and saw this video you would think they are just one band. I think this was an amazing collaboration. I thought they sounded really good together. The video was very cool. I thought of it as two bands just rocking out together. Love the song and video. I hope they do more collaborations together. It also would be awesome to see them do a world tour together.🎸🤘🏻⚡️
Excellent reaction and review👍👍
You got my sub, PO!🤣🤣
I love this collaboration and this song.
Its message is so uplifting. Shine bright, fly high, go show them.
This is a showcase of skills and talent rarely seen in collaborations.KUDOS to all involved. 🎉🎉🎉
Nice reaction to this wonderful collaboration. The bass ending has been previously identified as a tribute to Ale's bass ending of The Warning's anthem from their first full album. A song called Survive which is another of their songs you should check out. 🤘🤘
I grew up with the 60s-70s bands you mentioned and fell away from rock in the 80s for the same reasons you said but 20 years earlier. Discovering Band-Maid brought back the fun, the joy of rock music to me. I'm just discovering The Warning and look forward to that journey too.
In another comment, I pointed out that there have always been bands that take themselves seriously. On the flip side of the coin, there have always been bands that were joyful and fun, even when the songs themselves were dark. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, indie bands like The Replacements, Guided by Voices, Poi Dog Pondering, Camper Van Beethoven, Beulah, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Fishbone, and so many others were as exuberant as bands from any other decade.
You know what? I see them both doing a world tour together pretty soon. They are a perfect match. They get along very well, have similar fangroups, similar equipment, similar style... And they could share the costs.
Phil - you are my favorite reactor on TH-cam. Love the way you not only appreciate the music but I really like you nerding out on the compositions. Doesn’t hurt that you are a big fan of my current favorite band The Warning. :) BTW - I agree that some of the best music (not just rock) being written and performed today is coming from artists NOT located in the US, such as:
The Warning - Mexico
Band Maid - Japan
Freeze the Fall - Canada
The Sixters - Ukraine
Royal Blood - England
Broken Peach - Spain
Intervals - Canada
Dirty Loops - Sweden
That’s not to say that the U.S. doesn’t have it’s own cache of amazing artists, such as:
Lawrence - USA
Plush - USA
Mammoth WVH - USA
Livingston - USA
Greta Van Fleet - USA
Taylor Acorn - USA
Please keep up the great work, and keep nerding out!!

Enjoyed the reaction. An awesome collaboration between two of my favorite bands. If you are feeling adventurous, take a listen to Lovebites another all female band out of Japan. Try the latest live version of the hammer of wrath. Enjoy
This collab started in 2022, Aftershock festival in US where both bands participated. TW decided to meet BM, turned out both bands were fans of each other. I became a Maidiac because of this video of them meeting each other for the first time. And when the poster of Tokyo Special Show last June was released, I knew I had to be there.
Some of them knew who each other were from following each other on social long before aftershock. Akane and pau in particular i think. At the meet you can tell. My favorite part, akane fan girling out.

FINALLY you are reacting to this song. I have been waiting anxtiously since it came out. So happy to see you enjoying it. I knew you would. Also, you are the very first reactor to mention that 'juicy' little riff that Kanami does during the chorus. Keep up the good work my friend. Rock on!

Band-Maid is easily my favorite band ever, and thanks to them, I'm also loving The Warning! Great reaction! Hope you check out more Band-Maid! In the meantime, I'll check out your The Warning reactions!
So yes, Kanami and Dany use PRS Guitars, the one that Miku is using is her signature guitar from Zemaitis, called the Flappy Pigeon
I don't know how many times I've listened to this and never picked up on the switch between verse/chorus 1 & 2. They both sound close to me I can only tell the who's who by the accent when they are trading off in the verse.
Yeah I had to listen in for the accent too! Their timbres were sooooo similar
this collaboration didn't sound like a collaboration. it sounded like one large supergroup that has been playing together for years. this is how a collaboration is done.
That was awesome. I learned a lot. I agree with your comment about rock got too serious. That turned me off as well. But bands like BM and TW have brought fun back into rock

Hey!!! "Phil and the Blank" is a _totally awesome_ bandname!!! Dude! 😆 Have that one on me.
DEAL 😂
As Miles Davis said, there are only two kinds of music: good music, and bad music. Both Band-Maid and the Warning definitely play good music. They are curious, broad-minded, and ambitious. Most of them started on the piano with classical music, and while they chose rock quite deliberately, it was never the only kind of music for them. The documentaries about Band-Maid on TH-cam and the plethora of videos from the Warning’s past and present are full of evidence of this. The Warning have talked about their interest in J-Rock since at least their third album, and when the two Bands met at a festival in 2022, they knew each other from listening to the other band’s music for a long time, and had mentioned each other in interviews.
It is great to see them go on like a house on fire, carrying on from the exceptional chemistry that you can see between the members of both bands, both off and on stage. I think it’s only their busy schedule, and possibly their record companies, that kept them from doing even more together at this time already. They just have a great attitude and high social and communication skills, apart from being extremely hard-working and passionate musicians. I hope they will get more opportunities to work and spend time together, they are clearly soulmates and can achieve stupefying results together if they get the time, as well as growing individually and as bands.
Nice insight on the whole "rock got boring"-ish thing. I have to admit I didn't notice because I was off finding out about other genres. And finding out that there's more good music out there than I can possibly listen to. I've kind of come back to what I call modern rock (Shinedown, The Pretty Reckless, The Warning) in just the last couple of years, but now my taste is a lot broader.
Good work fella…easily one of my fave reactors…always a value add !
Another great reaction. If they tour together, it will be the biggest tour of the year! Can't wait to hear your concert review.
Aloha Phil, one small point to make: this song will not be played live at any upcoming performance unless Band Maid joins The Warning on stage. So you might want to keep your concentration on the sisters' music before they get to your town!
Misa's bass lick at the end is a tribute to the song "Survive" by The Warning. Ale plays the same lick at the end of Survive
Thanks Phil. I always look forward to your drops 🤘⚡️
I don’t think English is the first language for either band, but I think they all know it. In the behind the scenes they all spoke Spanish/Japanese respectively, for the most part, until they started arranging this collab. Point is, despite that I think they all have a common language in English, they didn’t really use it in casual conversation. Or at least in the bts vids I found. Music transcends culture, and language. Kind of incredible.
Is there any other drummer that can look that bad-ass just sitting behind her kit like Pau?
I love your reactions and critique, especially of The Warning! Rock out and “Geek” on! 😎🤘
Thank you Phil. Two great bands doing great band things.
My favorite part was the bass, guitars and drums duels too. Thanks for your reaction, waiting for your comments after see The Warning live show, mindblowing for sure. You've been warned!
