Phil, I recently (about 2 months ago now) developed an obsession with TW and went into my history to see when it started. I have you to thank, i saw your Evolve reaction one night, and immediately went 30 videos down the ⚡️⚡️ rabbit hole and Cant Thank You ENOUGH!!
I discovered them around the same time as Phil while watching “The Fairy Voice Mother” showing them them 10 years ago doing Enter Sandman. My first thought was wow Danys playing guitar about the same time I took up Guitar at 14 in ‘79, and Dany at 14 is way more proficient than I ever became. My second thought was - I wonder if they kept it up and got anywhere, then Loli plays a follow up song (which I think was evolve) and I went “holy moly” - and down the rabbit hole I went!!! BTW - Phil I love your reaction and analysis your enthusiasm, no need to change, keep it up!
You have to see them perform this song when it was new for them at the 2017 TEDx talk. Seeing 16 year old Dany, 14 year old Pau and 12 year old Ale rock out to this song is such a blast. They always seem like they are having the time of their lives when they play this song. it's a shame it's fallen off their live setlist in the most recent tour. A lot of people discovered The Warning through that TEDx talk and this song is a big fan favorite.
@@reaper_fbb7052 I think you mean April. They didn't tour in May. They played it at every show in their Europe tour in April and they played it at two shows in Japan in June. They haven't played it since. Not at all at their tour in Europe in July and August.
The amazing part about this song, they wrote / created this when they were literally children, 16,14,11 years old, and has been a fan favorite since. They performed this live for a TedX in 2017
Originally this song had a piano intro played by Ale. But traveling with a keyboard was awkward. So they dropped it in favor of a guitar/bass intro. You can see that original intro in the TedX version from 2017. This song was originally released as part of their first album, XXI Century Blood.
I can hear some of the piano parts (single notes) as part of their backing track on this recording during the bridge in particular, but also during the outro/solo at the end.
@@ChopBassManIn their early compositions, they said they would always include a backing track of the original beginning track. Pau even had one go right from her phone memo! You’ll also hear Dany’s flat picking an acoustic occasionally. I doubt this practice went further when QOTMS was premiered.
They wrote this song - music and lyrics - when Pau was about 13 and Dani was 15 and Ale was 11. That is how good they are. They knew how to write a song that kills me every time I listen to it.
They once said when they were little kids and fantasize about what it would actually be like to be rock stars and the biggest image that would go through their minds was of a huge crowd singing the lyrics of their songs back at them. So now when it happens for real it is literally the physical manifestation of their dreams coming true and ya can see the pure joy just radiate from them.
Their performance of this song at the TEDtalk 2017 was spectacular as well. You can hear Pau singing all the words at the beginning. I highly recommend it. That performance got a standing ovation at the end. 👍😎
He should react to both presentations not just the one from 2017,remember no 2017 without the first one it is just as important or even more because they did so well and were invited back for the second one.
Phil - you will be told this 1,000 times in this reaction, so I'll just emphasize it again. You should really react to their 2017 TedX talk. It's the video that was suggested to me by some unknown TH-cam algorithm 7 years ago to introduce me to these ladies and I haven't looked back since. In that under-30 minute video, you'll see a 16 year old Dany, 14 year old Pau and 12 year old Ale talk to the crowd and inspire "grownups" to pursue their dreams and fight for what they believe in. And you'll see three fabulous songs, with Survive being the show closer. It's a must-see for any fan of The Warning. (The second tune in the set, When I'm Alone, is also a crowd pleaser to this day, and sometimes played at their headlining shows.)
This was their encore song for several years. Arguably the most popular song from their first album. They've definitely grown since this was written, but it still a fan favourite. Like a warm blanket or comfortable slippers you should probably get rid of, but never will.
They wrote this song when they were probably like 15, 13 and 10!🤯 You need to check out their 2016 and 2017 TEDx talks at some point. You'll be blown away by little 16, 14 and 12 year old DPA.⚡🤘
They just couldn't drop this song from the setlists since it's a fan favorite and also their favorite because it's so much fun to play. However last year, they had US and Europe tours back to back. An they did really drop it. Then Europe tour happened... I personally love this song too much and when Ale and Dany sat down in front of Pau's drumset, I can't explain how excited I was. Sadly, seems like it is dropped again on the most recent tour. But I hope you can see this played live. For the intro, Pau makes the decision whether if she sings it completely or leaves it to the audience. She haven't done it much except for Mexico shows. I witnessed she was convinced they had an amazing crowd in Berlin, first ever public headlining show in Europe. Then we singed it completely and she was in awe. I can say this because she said many times that Berlin crowd knew all the words and she couldn't believe. It is in the Berlin aftermovie too. Glad I was there to witness that song played. And you have to check TEDx 2017 version btw. It was one of the many reasons I (and many others) became a fan.
Got to second what everyone has said about the TEDx show. They're so much younger and playing with less distortion/amplification than this live concert. Not knowing this song, my first thought then was, "it's just a girly song". But dang, by the end… it's one of their greatest single song performances. Standing ovation from the TEDx crowd. That's why the girls are so happy in this performance I think. They know that it's such a crowd favorite and obviously means a lot to them personally.
Other than Enter Sandman, Survive is the most coveted song they have made I think. It's their Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, and Welcome to the Jungle, Hey Jude, combined as one. It's a privilege and an Honor, to witness this song in person. Almost like a right of passage, and something to tell your grandchildren about someday. Nice job on this one Phil. It's special, and deserves all the care and respect given.
Can tell Pau wrote this song on piano as a kind of bouncy Broadway show tune. Then they turned it into a rock jam. This is one of their earliest songs.
That was fun. The intro originally had Ale playing a keyboard where Dany is now playing those staccato/legato chords. Pau's intro has a bit of a "Glee" theater vocals vibe to it. Or course, after that it's all old school rock and roll. I could NOT wait until you got to that jam session at the end! Phil, you NEED to watch their 2017 Ted Talk where a LOT of us fell in love with these sisters. THIS is what they bring to concerts, absolute JOY. Energy that is palpable and an experience that will NEVER leave you. This is how you know they LOVE what they do and it's enthralling. This song is already a "classic" Warning song...and it NEVER fails to energize. Make sure to watch this again and pay attention to Dany and Ale, and Ale and Pau as they do some fun choreography. Great reaction!
Now, for the "Brain Dump" portion. As a professional graphic designer, all I can offer is KUDOS! That jersey is frickin' awesome. Thank you to [REDACTED] for the recommendation of Survive! I would love to hear from [REDACTED] as a possible resource to create promotional items like that jersey. Well done!
*Survive* the first time i heard *Survive* was watching their 2017 TEDx video... they played 3 songs there and spoke to the audience between each song... *Survive* was their closer and that jam session at the end was a wildfire to watch... actually, you should watch both of their TEDx sessions, 2016 and 2017, if you haven't seen them yet... each one is maybe 30 minutes long with 3 songs and DPA/TW speaking between the songs... what they talk about is enlightening and very informative... *Survive* is off their 2017 album "XXI Century Blood"... it is obviously about a relationship going/gone bad... some think of a boy/girl relationship but it could be about any relationship... especially a relationship where partyA is telling partyB that partyB won't make it without partyA in their lives... to me, this sounds very much like it was inspired from the failed negotiations with those labels "that wanted to change them for the wrong reasons"... i can see those label people trying to get them to sign by trying to scare them with words like that... the album's title song has a OMV that really tells a story... it, too, is a must see if you haven't seen it yet... it was nominated for a few awards and won several of them 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I absolute LOVE Error (the album), I like a lot of the songs on KMF and QOTMS is a masterpiece. But Survive remains my absolute favourite Warning track.
Another interesting fact about this song is that the bass riff at the end of Survive is replicated by the new Band Maid and TW song “Show Them” but at a faster pace. It was a nice tribute of BM to TW.
This is still my favorite. HYCAD took a gallant run at it, but fell short. The original opening was Ale on piano, giving it a real Broadway feel until the instruments kicked in. They have always had the piano backing track in the rest of the song. I personally like the piano intro, but logistically it's problematic, since they don't normally tour with a keyboard. Also, Pau originally sang the entire chorus, as she did in the intro. The TEDx performance is considered the reference, although I think I prefer the Lunario version. The original studio version is interesting too, with a lot of layering and even more buildup in the coda. Pau's voice was also very different, just due to her age. They never did an official music video for it, although they did a video introducing the recording of the third album using it as the audio track, so I refer to that as the official unofficial music video for the song. In the 1980's or 1990's this would likely have topped both the rock and dance charts, and there likely would have been a 7 minute extended dance mix. But they resisted the temptation to Free Birdify it with an interminable coda; the coda is almost exactly 1/3 of the song, which is a more reasonable proportion. That vocal slide on Pau's part (she customizes it for wherever they're playing, but she always does it that way) is a nice touch. Dany has occasionally gone off stage and danced with the fans during this, and at one show in Houston the opener (Hero The Band, which is a young group of brothers) hopped up on stage and danced with them, to everybody's delight.
I love to watch the 'Ale sway' in this song especially when Pau and Ale both do it in sync. Also you could set up a 'buy me a coffee' link that way people could tip your if they wanted to, but you wouldn't have to commit to any perks or extra videos.
Now you need to watch the 2017 TEDx performance of this song. Even if you don't react to it, just watch it for personal enjoyment. Back before Pau learned to economize her motions while playing. She looked like Animal from the muppets behind that drum kit during the outro. Her ponytail spinning like a helocopter. Poor little Ale does the intro on keyboard while still wearing her bass that looks huge on her then has to run up to the mic stand to do her backing vocals.
I always appreciate your insight on TW. As much as I like this performance at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX, their performance of "Survive" at the 2017 TEDx talk is my favorite.
You need to see the TedX version of this when they were babies (well, definitely Ale was). In fact, just watch that show, don't need a musical breakdown, I think Yhe Warning fans would just like to see your reaction to it and the speeches
@@istvanvago39 Oh, yes. I love qotms (song and album), but i was thinking in the songs endings, those instrumental codas in Survive and Dull knives are really amazing for me
Ohhhh what, you did not notice Dany's and Ale's choreography in the chorus (on the word "air") even though you replayed it so many times! Best hidden thing, you can't unsee when you notice it. They do it every time they perform that song😅Cool video 💙 can't wait for the next TW videos to come
7:49 - "this song's really catching me off guard" - that aspect of their songwriting is at least partially why The Warning has become my favorite band these days. There are almost always unexpected "surprises"! 💖💖💖
The first thing I though was "wow nice personalised shirt. Looks good". The story behind the shirt is sweet. You deserve gifts like that. Thanks mysterious guy. Thanks Phil, another good job. Are you ready for MORE? 🤟
They just kill it live! This song shows that they actually are having fun playing live and not just going through the motions. Fantastic! And as you said in one of the other reactions Phil, there are no rules here....keep doing exactly what you're doing. Don't fall into the trap of doing what everyone else does. Less is more on the content scale and I actually enjoy waiting for Sunday to see which song Phil will do next. Speaking of which....the performance of Enter Sandman from this concert is a great stop, another connection to their history.
The most amazing thing about all of this is that Survive was written by teens. It's part of their XXI Century Blood Album which was released 7 years ago. They played live this song for the first time when they were 16-14-12 yo. The song itself was most likely written at least one year before of that. Let-that-sink-in. ⚡
This will forever be one of my favourite songs, from any band. I cannot stop the smile building as the guitar changes and you know the outro is starting. Have to agree, Phil, with all the calls for you to check out the Tedx2017 version of this song (including the 2-3min of talking before the song starts). It doesn't need to be a reaction, it's just amazing to see them play it in the era in which they wrote it. They just have so much fun in the song here, how can you not love it. Twice in the chorus Dany and Ale have synchronized 'guitar dance' moves, Pau and Ale have synchronized side-to-side head swings in time to a couple symbol crashes, and I don't think any of the three stop smiling the whole song. And Phil, if you need a chuckle, please check out a version of this called "The Warning - SURVIVE - Audio Enhance - Vive Latino 2020" on your own. Pau is almost standing up at the end of the song so she can get that little bit extra power into the kick drum and right hand. I have to agree with what [redacted] said, don't you dare change a thing. We are here BECAUSE of your style of reaction/breakdown. As for merch/patreon/giveaways, I think whatever feels right to you at the time is correct. As long as the motivation for either yes/no is good, I say we support you.
I've seen so many reactions to this song exactly like yours. Not knowing what to think. And even not liking it that much in the beginning. And by the end their jaw is touching the floor.
Great reaction to a fantastic song by the Warning, the anthem from their 1st album. Watch again to see the chorography from Ale and Dany with the guitar/bass bounces and the Ale and Pau head snaps. It is pretty cool. Love the breakdown at the end.
I have been obsessed with The Warning for about 4 years now and about 2 years ago I got my best friend obsessed with them too and it makes me feel so happy to rant to her about them and she will actually understand
This is like their anthem, from the 1st album… this jamming ending part is pure rock madness! Saw them twice live, and the crowd always sings along to these ohohos… the bass and bass drum are punching in your stomach… Dany is shredding… this song live is an experience! Thanks for your reaction Phil! 👍⚡️🤘
In April, touring Europe they still were playing this with synchronized hair flips and synchronized axe swings. Haven’t heard it since KMF full release. It off their 1st album which has other masterpieces as well.
You've never looked more confused, focused, enthralled! 😂 The Warning, and TWA, and reactors have led me to several great young bands over time and I'm sure you will as well, Phil.🤘
Now at 15:26 - and to think this song is 8 YEARS OLD at the time of this video. Think about that. The band just celebrated 10 years. This song was on their first studio album, 21st Century Blood. Think about that for a moment.
Phil ..I have been watching The Warning reviews (and many others) for the past 5 years. You are one of three people, I stop what I am doing to make sure I hear the review Keep it up, you have major potential. As a former Radio DJ and a current marketing exec, I can say without a doubt (my expert opinion) you have many things that suggest, if you keep this up, you will blow up! If you need a sounding board, don't hesitate brother.
If I had one The Warning Wish, I would wish that they never stop playing this Song at their Shows. Well maybe 1 other wish but never mind... 🎉🎉 The Warning 🔥🔥🔥
Phil you are soooo dope!!!!! Thank you for reacting to The Warning, I love learning about your musical breakdowns. You are one of my favorite reactors and I’m always looking forward to your videos.
This performance is an amalgamation of everything great about The Warning. Their genius, unique and odd arrangements. Their infectious love for what they are doing, and their current level of world class musicianship. This song has a generous sprinkling of their secret sauce. The trading of vocals. Harmonies. Unpredictable song structure…. I can’t help but feel nostalgic for the first album and all of its wonderful surprises.
Buena reacción Bro, esta canción la compusieron cuando eran unas niñas, hay un video de ellas en la Universidad de Nevada donde la cantan siendo muy niñas.
This song builds so beautifully! It's the song that turned me on to them when I watched their Ted Talk performance. Its crazy how young they were (still young) when they wrote it and that outro is absolutely orgasmic the way it builds and builds. I love them and Im a 74 yo granny.
I went down this rabbit hole in October 2023 and it reminds me of the RUSH rabbit hole that I went down in 1976. I’m finally going to see them for the first time in September in Camden New Jersey.
I am a fan of your breakdowns. Simply marvelous. And now youi know. What most of us knew back in 2017 when we witnessed the three sisters for the first time. The sheer joy they have when playing. I knew halfway through that you had no idea what was in store for you in the outro. No one ever does. Brings tears to my eyes even now. This is the song that changed my listening habits for the better. I immediately went to Patreon and supported the sisters. Still do. Supporting excellence is a life mission. This band is destined for greatness. Supporting you with a subscription.
Like with many others, this was the song that hooked me first I saw this performed in the video 2017 Tedx. It was during early pandemic lockdown and I was watching classic rock reactions and The Warning Tedx video was in my YT recommended feed. Nothing like this ever happened before as I was stuck in a rabbit hole and happy as a clam.
I think you're the first so far who dug so deeply into this song, an old fan favourite. And that is what I love about your videos. You always manage to find details anyone else misses. This song is all about celebrating self empowerment and independence. I love it. Although the song is about breaking up with someone, it is so positively charged.
The ending of this song is one of the first times I truly fell in love with these ladies. The fact they wrote this when they were so young and it's one of the most incredible couple of minutes of music I've ever heard or seen preformed! Loved your reaction and insight, you always say something that I haven't noticed or didn't know, which is really refreshing, so thank you!
I'm 5 minutes into the video. I just have to say that "Survive" is now considered a classic. To say that with a band with just 4 studio albums, hundreds, if not thousands of hours (I think at this point) of live performances, that is saying something. This is also one of The Warning songs that is available on Rock Band (not sure which version). There's a video of TW playing it on the hardest level (or one of them is on the hardest level) to see how good they really are. It was first introduced live at the TEDx event. I "think" it was the 2nd one. I had been following them before that but that was the performance where I fell completely into The Warning Rabbit Hole. This is why the crowd is able to sing the opening verse. *Because* it is a classic song.
How the freak could you be a Warnning supporter without knowing this masterpiece of theirs ? That is some quintessential one ; the 2017 Tedx one is the definitive milestone when they said to the world "You have to count with us by now !". The sound mixing is better, and seeing chill tiny Ale, head banging Dany and crazy muppet Pau (breaking her drumstick) at their age, is such a treat.
Phil, we love what you do here and especially how you do it !!! Your nerdical musicianship is *A* number *1* in my book, and we are able to learn a lot !!! Do enjoy your brain dumps, as well 😉 Y'all know, we need to get all of our friends and neighbors hooked on... *_PHIL ZERRO,_* TOO, YA KNOW !!!!!

Phil Zero: How do you melt faces without power metal shred solos?
The Warning: Hi

So say we all.
They wrote this song - music and lyrics - when Pau was about 13 and Dani was 15 and Ale was 11. That is how good they are. They knew how to write a song that kills me every time I listen to it.
Phil’s face during that whole outro was pure gold!
Didn't stop once. Took him by complete surprise. A genuine reaction as always...he's the best.
The outro on this is one of my favorite things The Warning ever did. And they wrote that as little kids.
The silhouette of Dany raising her fist ache the end is the icing on the cake!
Indeed. I want that as my wallpaper...
She's saying..they are all yours Sis...get them! And yes its iconic !

Ale picking off of her last note right at the end might even be better.
Dany's grin as the audience sings back to them gives me life every time I watch this.

Well done!
The Warning are the queens of outros.🔥🔥
Truer words have never been spoken.
And prechoruses!!!!
I LOVE this song.. especially the second half!
*Survive*
the first time i heard *Survive* was watching their 2017 TEDx video... they played 3 songs there and spoke to the audience between each song...
*Survive* is off their 2017 album "XXI Century Blood"... it is obviously about a relationship going/gone bad... some think of a boy/girl relationship but it could be about any relationship... especially a relationship where partyA is telling partyB that partyB won't make it without partyA in their lives... to me, this sounds very much like it was inspired from the failed negotiations with those labels "that wanted to change them for the wrong reasons"... i can see those label people trying to get them to sign by trying to scare them with words like that...
the album's title song has a OMV that really tells a story... it, too, is a must see if you haven't seen it yet... it was nominated for a few awards and won several of them 😹
TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I concur with both TEDx presentations.👍
One of my favorites song from the warning ⚠️
It their anthem. They WILL survive!
I absolute LOVE Error (the album), I like a lot of the songs on KMF and QOTMS is a masterpiece. But Survive remains my absolute favourite Warning track.
So You can actually pick favourite TW song? O_o I can`t pick favourite album. :D
You should see this song at the University of Nevada presentation in 2017 (TEDx Talks). Daniela (16) Paulina (14) and Alejandra (12)...
In their past live shows, the outro here has been one of the absolute highlights. It sounds absolutely fantastic live
I loved MISA's tribute to this song with the bass outro in their Collab!
I love to watch the 'Ale sway' in this song especially when Pau and Ale both do it in sync. Also you could set up a 'buy me a coffee' link that way people could tip your if they wanted to, but you wouldn't have to commit to any perks or extra videos.
When Phil's here ,so am I. 🎉
🎯
Phil is the _only_ site that I have notifications turned on for !!! The others can wait !!!!!
Can't wait I'm going to see them in Brooklyn on the 17th of September
i'm going the day before , right at the Mexican independence 🇲🇽
Its just amazing that they can and could write stuff like this at that age. I mean when they wrote this, they were really really really young.
I would really like you to react to this song at TedX.
That could be awesome to hear the things you have to say about them playing it as kids.
Oh, Dull knives and this one. Chef kiss
"Best three minutes in modern rock..."
+1 and Queen of the Murder Scene is pretty mint as well.
They do it every time they perform that song😅Cool video 💙 can't wait for the next TW videos to come
It is great knowing TW composed this when they were so young
7:49 -
"this song's really catching me off guard" - that aspect of their songwriting is at least partially why The Warning has become my favorite band these days.
There are almost always unexpected "surprises"!
💖💖💖
They were CHILDREN, damn!!!!!!
Another mind-blowing factor is that they wrote this when they were 16 and younger. True artist from such a young age.
Wonderful. Precisely the reaction to my current favourite song from "The Warning". ⚡🤟🤘⚡
How long was it between listening to it last and you saw Phil's vid? 😁
@@chrisd4228 not a second... my first thought when I heard the title was that tears will pop up.... (no matter if Phil or Phil) 😂
I've always thought of this song with its outro as The Warning's equivalent of Knights Of Cydonia
I get the confusion as this song was written in their teens and released in 2017.
Yes the Ted x video is even better Pau hitting the drums so hard she breaks a drumstick and never misses a beat
And I was there - it was amazing live. :D
I suspect we'll hear it again - but probably only at shows where they headline and have more time.
This song (as they performed at their second TEDx talk, in, like, 2017) was the gateway drug for a lot of Army members.
By which I mean to say, go watch that one (too). Dany's speech at the end is 😭
You've never looked more confused, focused, enthralled!
Survive was the 1st Warning masterpiece.
18:08 okay what is this wizardry. You answered it exactly as I was answering that in my head
🪄 🪄🔮🔮
I LOVE ALL YOUR THE WARNING REACTION❤❤❤
One of my favorites videos of them!
My favorite reactor by far. Thank you Phil.
Thank YOU! 💜🤘
Thank you!! 💜🤠🤘
That’s my favorite performance of any The Warning song & probably my favorite song of their period…
Buena reacción Bro, esta canción la compusieron cuando eran unas niñas, hay un video de ellas en la Universidad de Nevada donde la cantan siendo muy niñas.
Love, Love, Love this song of theirs. Glad you reacted to it!
You’re great, Phil. Your channel deserves to grow substantially.
Thank you!!! 🙏🏻
This song builds so beautifully! It's the song that turned me on to them when I watched their Ted Talk performance. Its crazy how young they were (still young) when they wrote it and that outro is absolutely orgasmic the way it builds and builds. I love them and Im a 74 yo granny.
this is my absolute all time fave Warning song!!! so nice to see others appreciate it as much i do!!
I went down this rabbit hole in October 2023 and it reminds me of the RUSH rabbit hole that I went down in 1976. I’m finally going to see them for the first time in September in Camden New Jersey.
I was waiting for this one!
Their version in 2017 at TEDx is also excellent
Simple Unbelieveble.
If you pay attention, you can see that at certain moments they dance and do the same move at the same time. They're truly having fun 💃🏼!
14:56 don't we all love when we get those happy tears from great music. 😊 😁 Right there with you Phil!
🥲🥲
Wild
So f*** perfect!!!
I've always thought this song has a musical theatre vibe, until the groove jam comes along at the end.
Phil's, brain🧠 Phil's brain after a the warning song☠
LOVE LOVE LOVE Your reactions @PhilZero, for Us, the Warning Army, you have become one of our TW official reactors. Your content is Superb.
Do enjoy your brain dumps, as well 😉
Y'all know, we need to get all of our friends and neighbors hooked on...
*_PHIL ZERRO,_* TOO, YA KNOW !!!!!
Pow Pow beating that drum kit, she is a force of nature 🤟😎
