    • @bydave7230

      @@SandstormGT Because phones with no camera bump/bar look old and a lot of people don't want others to think they're poor and can't afford a new phone.

      Lol same. I'm waiting to see how their TSMC based chip will be. Reason why I decided to skip the 9 lineups.

    • @waldamy
      @waldamy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@sjn_technically it'll be their first gen TSMC chip, so it might not be as much of a leap as everyone is expecting.
      I just got the 9 and gonna upgrade somewhere in the future, when they have figured out production on TSMC, maybe in 3-4 years.

    • @sjn_
      @sjn_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@waldamy That's also true. But it seems to be the case with even the current Tensor series as the newer gen is never that stable. Takes several patches through updates for them to optimize.
      I remember the G1 was the same thing, people were complaining about it a lot, but I'm on G1 right now and it's very stable. Though, can't be sure it will be the same case with the G5 but I'm carrying some expectations.

    • @WoodRumble

      What's going to be so "groundbreaking" about it?...

    • @sjn_
      @sjn_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@WoodRumble Because, they are moving to TSMC's node from Samsung's Exynos one. Kinda means it's going to be pretty similar to the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen * lineups. Could be a huge boost in performance compared to what they currently have.
      The Pixels right now still perform very well with the relatively mid chip, still compete well with iPhones and Galaxy S series that use rather powerful chips. Pixels with the in-house chip that is on the same level as Qualcomm's flagship chips and Apple's A* series would pretty much be groundbreaking.
      But that is, if Google doesn't mess somewhere.

  • @sjn_

    I have a Pixel 7 and have considered updating to the 9, but spending that amout of money for upgrading from a 7 to a 9 does not seem to cut it. Waiting for the 10 seems more sensible. Now, however, with the possibility of a 9a, I'm rethinking. I don't need the extra build or features that come with the flagship '9's, but I would think seriously about an 'a', ... if the price is right.

      I went from a 7 Pro to a 9. It's worth it with everything but the zoom capabilities. If you live where Best Buy stores are, consider purchasing unlocked and unboxed in good to excellent quality. Only spent $645 for a 128GB (I use Google One storage) there and it just so happened to have a pretty good screen protector from the previous owner lol.

    Google really worked nicely to provide Camera Bar from Pixel 6 onwards, which is always standing unique.

    Bazillion models in manufacturer lineup always leads to unexplainable mess. In my ideal world pixels would not by segmented by price but by size. 3 models: small (below market average), medium and large. There would be differences by specs and price but mainly because of size constraints (less cameras, smaller battery, maybe slower cpu) and justified cuts (for example you probably don't need super bright screen on a smaller model as it it less likely that you would consume lots of hdr videos on it). Cheaper pixels could just be regular models from previous year (or years even considering long software support google now provides)

      Personally, in this era of giant phones with utterly unnecessary overkill cameras that need giant protrusions to fit inside, I think this harkens back to the simplicity of the iPhone 5. I think it looks nice to hold and pocket.
      For people who really don't care about having 3 different 50+mp cameras on their phone, I think the 9a is attractive. Very minimal and unobtrusive. Believe it or not, some people like that.
