Note 9 and Note 8 in my opinion were the best phones Samsung had ever created. After almost 4 years my Note 9 is still holding up perfectly and I don't feel any need to upgrade as long as it's working as it should. I never had any issues with it no screen burn in or anything like that. It truly was meant to last a long time.

The Note 9 was ahead of its time it could hardware wise easily carry the newer UI and OS of the newer models tbh. If only they would keep updating the Note 9 I would keep using it for years more to come, but I do feel for the S23U

I switch from note 9 to s23 ultra, I already miss the back part of the fingerprint sensor, the features of pulling down the notification panel.
The volume key and s pen location feels so weird. S23 ultra is quite a big upgrade, but as an average person, if your note 9 is still working well, then I not recommended to change. My opinion

    • @okayhax7500
      @okayhax7500 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Hewhoremains you can control the notification panel by sliding up/down on the fingerprint sensor (note 9). The location of the s23 ultra's fingerprint sensor makes this feature redundant.

Bruh way to lay out my biggest reservations in upgrading😅
My only problem with the note 9 is the battery has gone to shit. With how heavy I use it, i have to top off my battery in the morning, charge it to about full around lunch and again in the evening around dinner
Once i heard s23 battery could last up to 1 day easy, maybe 2, the decision has been weighing on me hard

There's also no more iris scanner, heart rate and SpO2 sensor, no VR support, punchole cam instead of infinity display, S-Pen now on the left (less accessible), speaker grille on the right (you'll block it with your hand when gaming in landscape). I was surprised by some of these when "upgrading" from the Note9 to Note20 Ultra. The fingerprint was reliable before with it's edges and now I still can't hit the invisible one correctly after two years. I mean you'll probably want a new phone no matter what, I'm just saying don't get too excited :D. Going from the Note9 was the 1st time I felt weird about a new phone. Even the upgrade from Note8 to 9 there was a 'wow' effect with those new stereo speakers but how can u be excited when they rob you of some functions that you actually use? That said I think the Note20 Ultra is the most beautiful phone ever created, so at least it's a looker 😂.

S23 ultra is for camera and gaming. I don't see much difference. In the brightness and display unless you go for direct sunlight. Note 9 is came in 2018 but still can give tough competition for the 2023 smartphones.

My main phone is iPhone 13 Pro Max, Note 9 I grabbed in 2019 as a backup...but wow, I was impressed! The customization, expandable storage, I missed my fingerprint sensor AND headphone jack...yep, all these little Android features Apple was lagging at the time, still do. Still have my Note9 and yeah it's a bit sluggish, I still love this thing. And I just may pick up a S23 at some point, the price on these after a year is pretty awesome. Feeling exactly the same as you, Note 9 is approaching 5 years, and there's nothing on the market that seems appealing. Photo Quality seems great, still snappy. I can't seem to find a phone anymore that has a fast processor, good screen, IP 68, HF jack, with expandable storage and S pen. I've done some googling, and it seems security updates aren't actually a big issue. just install an anti-virus, use your phone properly, and VPN for public networks.

I'm here because I am finally upgrading from my Note 9 to a new phone. and I want it to be as close to the Note 9 as possible so I am going with the 23 Ultra. After 5 years of constant use, IE. Gaming, Doordash/Uber job, constant phone calls and just putting it through the ringer, its finally not living through the day battery wise. Infact, if I were to sit on Tiktok or TH-cam for about 2 hours, the phone would be dead. It's also not giving me all my calls, and text messages are starting to come through late.
I hate upgrading unless I have to. So this is a fantastic comparison video and has sold me on the S23 Ultra! Hopefully this one can last me 5 years like the Note 9! I will say I have gotten use to the unlock sensor on the back, and its gonna drive me crazy getting out of that mindset!

Thx so much for the great comparison. My Note9 still works perfectly 99.5% of the time. I've had it for around 4 years (the longest phone I've ever owned). Due to the 0.5% glitches or overheating, I was just wondering what will be the best to upgrade to. This is looking tempting, though I'm not keen on earbuds, so will need a USB-C new wired set if I trade this in. While I keep thinking (and maybe looking), I'll certainly be watching the comparisons and overviews on this site, aa you really covered most details. Possibly throwing in some Office 365/email type software comparisons would also be good as I personally use my phone as my mini computer when I'm mobile.

I just upgraded from my 2017 Galaxy Note 8 to the Galaxy Note 9, and man, that MicroSD card slot is a must have if you value privacy but still want tto back-up your data. After almost 6 years (longest I've ever used a Smartphone), my Note 8 died on me (it was my first Samsung Phone), won't turn on due to some storage/RAM issue (per the repair shop I took it to). Fortunately, I have been regularly backing-up much of my data via Titanium Backup to my MicroSD card, and my Camera was configured to ALWAYS save new images to my MicroSD card. So, there wasn't much data lost.
Now, I can never settle for anything lacking a MicroSD card slot, and the privacy-violating cloud is in no way a suitable replacement.

The s23 ultra is the best phone I've ever used and owned coming from the s10 plus and why i gave the a53 to my mother. The Samsung s23 ultra is better than the iPhone 14 pro max and Pixel no comparison, and I've used all 3. For those of us who know tech, we always knew Samsung was way more fun to use with more capabilities than the iPhone. I used to be an apple sheep many, many years ago, and then I transitioned and never went back. I remember apple phones being the most boring limited phones I've used. The only thing I use on my old iPhone 6s is the imessage period. Even using the 14 pro max irritates me because my s23 ultra does way more. Also, the camera is way better than the iPhone and more fun unlimited features. IPhone sometimes give the perception of better battery because it doesnt do anything basically. Now, with the pixel, I don't prefer the operating system, but I respect the pixel camera. Only gripe I have is the missing micro SD card. When it comes to those things like edge panel multi tasking, S Pen capabilities , 10 x perfect clarity, UHD 60 and hdr 10 video , all those unlimited features are close to perfect. The s23 ultra is the most value for the money, no comparison!
However I will say the Sony Xperia V 1 with the micro SD card and headphone jack has impressed me and it will be the next one I get even despite the lack of facial recognition!
Samsung should have left those old features like the note 9 and s10 plus and i even complained to them to bring those old features back

A year later: I ordered the S24 but I'm already having buyers remorse and it hasn't even arrived yet. My Note 9 is fine. In this vid i see little practical improvement with the S23, and the 24 is almost the same as the 23. I might return the S24 as soon as I get it, supposedly tomorrow.

Note 9 is the best device I ever owned and it's working fine but the screen's starting to burn. Now I'm torn about whether to get an S23 or S23 Ultra. The latter seems heavy and very expensive but an S-pen might be something I'll miss.

Samsung used to be the best for cramming in the maximum amount of top quality features into a phone. Apple's selling point seemed to be it's simple eco-system and minimal options. Now Samsung seems to have sold its soul and become just like Apple to the point that i'm genuinely considering jumping ship from Samsung to Apple juice cos i genuinely see barely any difference between Galaxy and Iphone these days. They are all just slabs of glass with three cameras, no headphone port, no expandable storage, no chargers in the box and both absurdly expensive. I literally may as well get an Iphone at this rate unless i exclusively want an S-Pen. And as a current Note 9 user this depresses me a lot.

Lol I still have the note 9. The screen cracked last year from dropping something heavy on it. So I had to upgrade to the s22 ultra. If I didn't cracked the screen I would have kept going with it. Note 9 is my favorite note over the years

My toddler cracked my Note 9 screen earlier this year and so i have just upgraded to the S23 Ultra after 4 years. This is my honest opinion:
The S23 Ultra is incredible and the improvements it brings to the table do just about outweigh the lack of SD card, Headphone jack and Iris scanner support. It is so pleasant and fluid to use and while just about everything has been improved i am most in love with the massive and silky smooth display, the ridiculously good battery life and the cameras which quite simply blow my trusty Note 9 out of the water.
Having said all of that... if my Note 9 wasn't broken i would have happily continued using it for at least another year. Yes it's no longer getting updates, but it is still extremely capable and actually includes more hardware features than any newer flagships seem to have. I do also miss the rear fingerprint scanner that i previously used to bring down the notifications no matter what app i was in.
In conclusion: if you have a Galaxy Note 9 that's still working well and in good condition, keep using it and treasure it while you still can! Save those pennies for the S24 or even the S25 if you can last that long. But if your Note 9 is broken i would not recommend buying the same phone again as support for it from various apps is only going to get worse while a new phone will have plenty of life for years to come

Have a Note 20 Ultra and refreshed it with a new battery and it really sped up. Updated to software it was limited to and it still gets security updates here in 2024. Have an S22 ultra and iPhone 12 promax and love all three. Use Note 20 ultra as daily driver, beciase t is thin, big screen, lightweight and works great! and s22 ultra on wifi at home. 12 promax secure and pay. My bills.

The fiercest competition is between the ugliness of the camera setups. It's close, but I think the Note 9 has a slightly uglier camera setup. The Note 10 has a much better looking camera setup.

Guys please please help me. I'm a huuuuuuge Note lover (note fan is just understating). I want to upgrade my Note9, because I'm having battery issues and don't trust people to just replace the battery. My question is for the Note users who actually use all the features of their notes... Should I upgrade to Note20 ultra 5g? Or should I get a S22 ultra or s23 ultra? Note20 ultra 5g has headphones and charger in the box but is really really hard to find a brand new one in 2023; yes has so many features that I think I need and use... I even gonna miss the LED indicator!!! I love it man!!! And headphone jack! Well I have so many equipments that have 3.5 mm socket! I have to buy a connector... anyway which one is the best if you're looking Notewise! S22ultra, s23ultra, note20ultra5g???

With the S24 Ultra you will have:
    1. 8 Gen 3 Snapdragon SoC 3nm.
    2. 150X Zoom and better overall zoom capabilities than the S23 Ultra!
    3. Because of the new 3nm 8 Gen 3, the S24 Ultra will be more power efficient than the S23 Ultra which gives at least one hour more SOT!
    4. Brighter display at least 2000 nits and tougher to scraches and cracks!
    5. OneUi 6.0 with more features...
What do you think, is it good enough to upgrade to the S24 Ultra?
