At this point, I had done quite a bit of woodlot testing with several of these saws. Short, medium, and long bars. 5 different air filter options. Multiple teeth angles. And, depth gauges ranging from .040 to .060.
Simultaneously, various states of tune as I was "baby-stepping" it up gradually through some of the zippkit levels. I was uncertain what the magnesium piston would tolerate. In addition to, and mostly, what the coating would handle.
I've asked a couple of "higher-ups" in the tech realm for Stihl® about the piston coating. "Nobody" knows for sure what it is. I'm still trying to get confirmation from "someone" that is actually involved in the Stihl regime. As opposed to the "deductive reasoning" line of thinking - that because the motorcycle industry is using a ceramic coating on some of the pistons, "it must be ceramic".
As mentioned, brain fart on the ½ job filming, and missing the face going in... I was preoccupied with paying attention to the saw and how it was functioning. Not to mention, trying to get some "wood on the ground".
At only one day + an hour or two, I "was definitely likin this saw".
    30" Oregon lw bar.
1st sharpening on some new, Oregon semi-skip chain.
2nd alteration of the teeth angle setup, "grind".
At the time of your viewing this, I may, or may not, be immediately available for custom saw modifications. I am booked out several months regularly. If you are interested in having a saw zipped, please shoot me an email. That is the best, first point of contact.

I put a 461R oiler in mine, and run a 28” Stihl LW bar. No engine mods yet. I really like the saw for medium sized work. We’ll see how the new magnesium piston holds up over time.

Is that the "conjured up" 30" bar, with no part number, which was the meal ticket on the 462?

    Jack,
How does the MS400C compare to the MS462C? (Power, weight,&potential)

How is the suspension on the 400? Is it floppy like the 500 are before a suspension kit is added?
I like the electronics in the 500 and the weight but hated the floppy springs and bushings. Will I have to stiffen up a 400?

    • @tompaterson220
      @tompaterson220 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are floppy as!!

      Gentlemen hello.
I think that the 362/400 platform is more stiff.
They (the 362) were designed earlier- before some of the new regs from EU-OSHA became effective.
But, you will not, most likely anyway, be running a 32 on one. You most likely will be running a 32 or longer bar on the 5ooi.
The longer the bar the more the soft sprung mo-chines have the tendency to "flop around like a salmon on the deck".
The 5ooi is recently engineered and had to meet more stringent (lower) vibration numbers that telescope through the handle bars to the operators flanges.
It is the same for the 585/592. They move around quite a bit for a big saw.
It is the progression that has been in the design phases on new saw for quite some time.
      Thanks for watching.

About ½ a pound more weight.
They are up around .7 of a hp in stock form.
Factory highwinder with the mag piston.
