    Whenever I install mirrors or glass etc.... vacuum suction cups come in handy. They also are relatively inexpensive & makes install items like this a breeze; especially when you have a tight fit. Once you buy them.....you’ll find other uses😉😅. The stuff they come out with now....just amazing.

    you need heat shrink tubing on all of those push connectors. helps seal out moisture, but more importantly, makes a very solid connection that will be last much longer than tape.

    • @Zeknix
      @Zeknix 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keeps moisture out? Only if it's marine grade heat shrink tubing. Although in this application, I wouldn't be that concerned. If you don't have the marine grade stuff and some dielectric grease (almost any silicone grease, hell I'm pretty sure astroglide would work, lol), you can make a waterproof connection. I've made 120VAC connections to a submersible pump using those crimp butt connectors with the built in heat shrink tubing and just packed the connector with the grease and it ran fine. Even had it on a GFCI and it never tripped. We were running the pump in salt water so any water intrusion should have been detected by the GFCI.
      Now I used Taylor Lube (food grade silicone grease used in ice cream machines which is not what I use it for) but next time I run into that situation I'll probably use Molykote 111 just because it's thicker or more viscous. Probably better at resisting washing. Then again the heat shrink tubing makes such a tight connection that it's probably not an issue. I know... long winded response, but I wanted to give some background.

    I have a question about mosaic tile. Maybe this is just a dumb idea but have you ever tried to cut the mosaic to the correct size on the sheets then grout them while they’re still on the floor wait until it dries and then stick it up into the thin set. Maybe that would just be extra work but it seems like it would solve not only the sagging problem with the regular motor but also you don’t have to try to dig out the cement between each of the small grout lines in mosaic tile.

    Hi there! I have old ranch with plumbing put under the slab. I hate that as I hate heating up all the dirt worms and dead mice... But that besides the point. I decided to put water (hot, cold and return for pump) in the attic, because there was no other good place to put it. Forget about crashing slab or puttin 3x 1inch holes in the wall studs... I plan to thermally insulate lines (individually) plus, as there is no insulation yet - put insulation on the roof. If course with baffles to make sure that there is air gap for humidity to escape.
    Am I crazy or reasonable? What's your bet on what plumbing inspector will say?

    Hi there! I am doing remodel with insulation redone. I added 2x6 construction (like adding walls... To the walls... Because there was flat wood, house built in 50). I planned to put R21 wool batts there. But now occurred to me... Wouldn't be awesome to add 1inch of closed cell foam before putting bats? There will be room, because new structure is off from excusing wall (was not level) a little. I would consider this to add R6, but more importantly - air tightness (I will be installing ERV later). Crazy, stupid, not worth it or genius? 😏

    It's been a while since I looked at any electrical code, but it used to be illegal to have any plug-in connection inside the wall. That whole setup just makes me cringe from a fire safety perspective.

    • @Zeknix
      @Zeknix 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that since it's low voltage DC, it should be fine. Although I feel that the connections should be watertight and locking, like an automotive connector (which have been proven to be watertight and are very cheap). Now the AC side might be alright since there is an access panel to the plug. I think there should be a locking connection or some sort of permanent connection on the AC side to the DC power supply. Then again, I don't really like the setup either. I'd rather run the DC lines to a panel where I can easily service the DC power supply as well as a disconnect switch for the AC side. Then again, my setup would be rather expensive and requiring more skilled labor. This might be one of those things where the solution is safe enough to meet code while being competitive pricing-wise. But then again, I'm not that familiar with electrical code. If I ever face a questionable electrical problem as it pertains to the code, I either do more research or engineer a way to completely eliminate it.

    This is the kind of thing that is "right up my alley". Tuck tape works of course, but some 1/2" shrink tubing with internal adhesive and a heat gun would be "trick".
    You could also work that LVD circuit into the AC circuit with a small relay... or just switch the AC side of the power supply with the shower lighting or other bath lighting.... or even to the shower fan... because there shouldn't be condensation on the mirror unless and until the RH%/temp triggers the auto-fan start.
    Additionally, as a radio operator, home theater and audio freak, I have a complete loathing for switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). They are notorious for radio frequency interference that can/will dirty up the "air ways" and also in some circumstances the AC supply with back-feeding of the square wave switching signal....
    I would not mount that power supply in the wall. If you take a bit of extra trouble to either mount the power supply remotely and extend the LVD wiring into the cavity (Amazon, et al. can locate the 5mm x 2.1mm (or similar) extension cords, or simply cut and solder in some nice heavy wire to keep DC voltage drop minimized....
    I have built DC power centers at my home theater site, my network, et al. wiring closet, and other key areas where I HAD clusters of "wall warts" and other SMPSs... So far, I have eliminated over 50 separate noise making power supplies in favor of either larger linear power supplies, OR using these Solar Controllers that THINK the AC power I feed them is from a solar panel array, and produce super clean DC power.... at whatever DC voltage I want. And I can take say, a 28 VDC master supply and distribute it out via staged linear voltage regulators to get 19VDC for monitors, 12VDC for radios, and lots of other electronics, and 5VDC for lower power electronics, USB charge/power centers, etc.
    Oh yeah.... I am semi-retired, but put food on the table for a couple of decades doing IS/IT design, installation, and support. That's why I went nuts on this response to the cool bathroom "toy".

    So the brilliant waterproofing system this company has devised is a silicone bead around the edge, and no service access, and all the weak wiring harness issues. No thanks !

    • @ERWebster
      @ERWebster 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would argue that silicone on stone, tile, or glass is the primary moisture barrier in tons of home applications; kitchen counters, bath tubs, etc. However, I agree on the wiring harness. A single point of connection, that includes a built in plastic clip (similiar to how electrical connections in the engine compartment of a vehicle are done) would be infinitly better.

    • @kungfusing1
      @kungfusing1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All that careful waterproofing so any ingress under the tiles is covered and there’s a weak spot with nothing stopping water going straight into the walls except a silicone bead? It’s like frameless windows with silicone seals, they work perfectly in theory until the building starts moving and the silicone gets a few imperfections and all of a sudden you have a leak. Just could have been done a lot better I reckon.

    • @fd3871
      @fd3871 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kungfusing1 you could make that argument about anything where kerdifix is used, or even with the entire wedi system (well known and trusted) as it relies on a a sealant to seal joints. it isn't as uncommon as you think, and IF the right kind of sealant is used (what he is using ISNT just silicone), it shouldn't be any weaker than other waterproofing methods. i mean, what is a paint on barrier like red guard or aqua defense but a different type of sealant.

    I gotta stop watching
    This channel ... 😢
    the tile job looks terrible .. i hope the grout will hide those terrible gaps, the angle of gap on the left side where back wall meats shower head/comtrol wall...
    The back wall should have been tiled first so that the shower head wall tile overlaps the left edge of the back wall tile providing a clean look from outside the shower ( the view we were looking at)
    The mirror in the shower is the worst idea I've ever seen ...
    Those electronics won't last forever... What you gonna do when power supply dies ... Without access from other side you would have a nighmare repair to do... Not worth it. I would never recomend this or alow it for one of my customers...😢
