Owning a few RTs in my lifetime, I test rode the new 1300GS, and all I can say is: the look will grow on us sooner or later. The 1300 engine is fantastic, and I can't wait to have it on the RT. The ASA automatic is another great feature that will suit the RT well (look at Honda, more than 50% of models that offer automatic are sold as automatic).
Agreed, I really don't think the 1300GS looks bad at all, it's just different.
@@-Eternal-Damnation-1300 GSA is fugly.
@@Pyrrho_ I love it.
@@Pyrrho_ oh yeah I totally agree with you there, the new GSA is ugly as hell 😂. Although it doesn't look anywhere near as bad in some of the other colours. For some reason the red coloured one really highlights the massive fridge-shaped block in the middle of the bike.
Ugly bikes aren't always a bad thing IMO though. The new Super Duke 1390 for instance has a pretty damn ugly face but it oddly suits the monstrous nature of such a powerful naked bike. I don't think they should have used the same headlight on the 990 though.
Personally while I LOVE Honda's idea with an Eclutch I abhor losing the clutch lever altogether! DCT? great on a CAR but way too much extra WEIGHT on a motorcycle IMHO! I love the idea of just a few pounds of robo gear added that allows the bike's computer to operate the clutch or even shift gears IF desired and only when desired...but to totally get rid of clutch lever? NO! Get rid of shift lever? NO NO NO! NOT necessary! NOT appretiated one iota! Making bikes so complicated is only a good way of making high milage bikes too damn scary to even own which WILL pull the rug out from under resale values which I realise manufacturers likely LIKE. Just adding some servo motor modules that CAN operate the clutch or even operate the actual shift lever sound totally maintainable as opposed to integrated complete redesign of motor architecture I mean one could just turn servo motor option OFF if it starts acting up...maybe bolt on a new module....or NOT if it costs an arm and leg ....THUMBS DOWN on ingrained intrinsic complexity whatever that is called you know what I mean!! If it absolutely REQUIRES a dealer to deal with a new feature that fails or you cant ride the motorcycle? THAT is when you know it was a Baaaad idea
Nice, but it's going to be quite expensive. The current RT is already mid spec VW GOLF money down under (~40K in Aussie). This new 1300 might get close to a GTi. However, this also means a used 1200 or 1250 is going to be even more appealing in term of value for money. They are similar bikes in most areas, especially performance and practicality. Tech wise on models after 2014, they have pretty much everything a rider wants and needs. And they look modern enough for another 5 years I would say. Unless I hit the jackpot, I will go for a good example of 1200/1250.
Currently, I own the RT and a DCT Goldwing.
The ASA would definitely be welcomed because I'm not interested in manual gear shifting when I am on a long trip.
Furthermore, it's quite satisfying when you are the first one at the line & the traffic lights turn GREEN --- just fire off the DCT like you have Porsche Launch Ctrl. There's no comparison in this use case, no matter how skillful you are with a clutch because the DCT gears are always 100% aligned and the engine cannot stall. That's an extreme stress relief for such a heavy bike.
Well said. I own same bike and feel the same, every time. Its magical to use it. I will never go back to shifting again. if future Goldwing will have shift assist option, I will take it.
Agreed. I own a Goldwing DCT and regularly ride my son’s K1600GTL. The DCT wins hands down, especially using the “paddles” to shift down on demand, even in auto mode.
A great stress relief? Have you considered retiring from riding? 😢
@@ScottRoney They should keep the manual gearbox for people who do not want ASA, like what Honda is doing.
If you need the machine to shift itself either because (1) that's a 'stress relief' as compared to what it undergoes when you shift the gears yourself, or (2) you're simply not interested in manual gear shifting 'on a long trip'... well, I've gotta ask: why do you ride a motorcycle? Ohhh... I know: so you can have 'Porsche Launch Control' and massage your ego when you think that people are looking. And: HOW do you ride a motorcycle? Are you that unskilled that you stress your 'heavy bike' when manually letting out the clutch (remember what that is...?) from a standstill?
Here's an idea: Why don't you consider one of those bike-to-trike conversion kits so you can add a third wheel and do away with that thing called 'balancing' and that thing called 'leaning'?
Genuinely can't wait for the R1300r naked bike
@@1MrBryn Let's hope they take design cues from the S lineup instead and ditch the radar on the R and RS.
@@LonelyTreeSunset I want the radar thanks
Same. It’s the only bike that could potentially make me trade in my R1250R.
@@LonelyTreeSunset Hello cant you just PICK which packages you want to pay for? Why would anyone begrudge big spenders from choosing edition with Radar or WHATEVER as long as there is still an econobox version still avaiable for the whiney ones? I dont get it?
I am 68 yrs old and still ride and will continue to ride until I can't any more, but with age comes some adjustments. I would really really like to see a "reverse" assist on the RT. I have a difficult storage for my bikes. and getting them out requires a lit of leg strength which I am losing with age. I own and R1200RT 2015 with 63000 miles on it and an R1250RT with 12,000 miles on it.
Just a quick question in regards to the ASA automatic, as I'm not very familiar with it - how will that work with slow speed maneuvers, where slipping the clutch is necessary e.g. police training courses?
What those commentating on the recent spate of automatic bike announcements miss, is that this month in the EU and NI any new cars and lorries are required to have speed limiters and other tech (blind spot warning, lane keeping, etc). This does not apply to motorcycles yet as it was accepted that the technology isn’t there for bikes, yet. Expect to see pressure for the same legislation to start being applied to motorcycles in the next few years so the big boys are starting to prepare and adapt as this is much easier to do if the gearboxes can run in auto mode.
Finally someone that does'nt live behind the moon and is aware of what the establishment is pushing. You've made my day, mate 👍
I’m excited to see the RS.
I love the looks of the current R1250 RS. And I'm not a fan of the new looks of the GS and RT. So I don't share your excitement...
@@Benjimica I'm betting we will find out at EICMA either way. I'm holding out hope.
@@DamivRS has traditionally sold least of all their models, so it might be delayed further.
BMW is moving forward and staying competitive. So, will there be an option to have the automatic shifting as well as the clutch or are they doing away with manual shifting in this model all together? Personally, if a bike has a good clutch that does not tire our your wrist I actually like shifting and that is a fun part of motorcycling. However, for an RT bike and bikes like that I can see the point. I have an RS 1250 and I am interested to see if they make any changes to that bike besides giving in the new engine if they do.
I’d consider the auto clutch for this reason. I’m an aging rider, still fit and strong, but arthritis in my hands is making it painful some days. If it keeps me riding a few more years, I’d buy it.
I recon with Active cruise control on an automatic gearbox fired R1300RT You will be able to completely forget about gears once the active cruise will be activated. Cause the motorcycle will slow down and drop gear when the cars in front will slow down to prevent stalling the engine. And the same thing on the way but up to speed. Bike will be up shifts the gears so you won't have to think about that. The question is with the active braking will the bike be capable of stopping by itself and pulling away on its own as well?! What do You think Rob ? I will just say it is not for me. In a car active cruise is needed cause driving is something I need to do. Riding for me is for pleasure so taking the engagement out of riding by adding all that active stuff is not for me. Normal cruise control is ok everything else is just taking the fun of riding for me. But then I have never been on a straight road for longer than 50 minutes. So who knows maybe in America or Australia those systems will make sense
The challenges of solo travel. I have gotten in to the habit of it of checking luggage and straps after each stop. Great video👍
I have a current (2021) RT and would stick to the manual gear shift.
on a '21 you probably have a quickshifter, so the only difference compared to ASA in manual mode is you wouldn't use the clutch and you have the automatic option for the boring bits.
I have the 2024 R1250RT. I also have a Honda goldwing with DCT in the garage (mates bike) I would prefer to not have automatic gearbox if I did upgrade. In fact I had an order in for non DCT goldwing but bought the R1250RT instead. I like having the control and smoothness of shifting manually. The goldwing is good at it but you have to relearn how to control rolling off the throttle more smoothly. With a manual clutch the roll off of throttle is naturally quick. With DCT you must relearn to roll off slowly. Brain drain, especially when you are slowing down it’s for a maneuver of the bike which means I’d rather be naturally downshifting with little thought rather than relearning slowly rolling off while braking. The upside is the engine does a lot of breaking if you do roll off quick on DCT. I’m sure if I only drove DCT all the time it wouldn’t be a big deal. The brain would self adjust eventually.
BMW needs to update the 310. New platform, new engine. Bring it upto the mark with the competition
I own a 2007 R1200RT and it has at the moment 347.000km on the clock...still running nice. Had some issue whit the gearbox, but apart from that, the engine was not opened yet. Still love to ride the old RT on longer trips more then the 2015 XR, that I also have in the garage. Hope that the new R1300RT will not be styled like the new GS adventure 😉..
Can't wait to get mine ... Deposit is already down and it looks like it's going to lose some heft and weight, very promising
bring back the R80 GS
Yes & lower price for normal riders, these huge monster bike have huge price tags for the few!!
How well does the ASA behave in low speed maneuvers? I like it, but i don't want the bike to act badly when I am navigating tight spaces or making u-turns.
That knee angle still looks pretty tight: the current GS is much more comfortable because of its more relaxed knee angle. Sadly, the new RT still looks much tighter and thus less comfortable, especially on long distance touring.
Got myself a 2024 1250RT Option 719 after 2 GS & GSA. That knee angle plus the leaning forward position just doesn't work for me. I'm in such pain I have to return the bike after only 3900km on it. I'll most likely go back to a 1250GSA as I don't like the new 1300 (especially the side cases). I do 2-up with the wife and I need lots of storage and comfort. I wanted to love the RT so much, but it just simply doesn't fit the bill...makes me sad.
Ik like the BMW RT serie very much for a couple of decades. What bothers me is the reliability of the electronic components as well as the increased weight of the R1300RT. I remember the abs 3 integral system from 2001 till 2007. It broke in France 400 km from home, remaining braking power was around 20%. Complicated, vulnerable and far too expensive to replace. Besides, 279 kilo is lot of weight if you've got to push it out of the garage. The GS 1300 lost 12 kilo, unfortunately the RT only gets heavier
I had RTs for the best part of thirty years. My riding needs changed, but also the RT started to become more expensive and lardier than I needed or wanted. I stopped with the 1250. When it came time to move on, Guzzi brought out the V100, so I switched with no regrets. This one is moving even further from the machine I want - I have no use for cruise control at all, let alone radar controlled and an auto? No, thanks, I'll pass.
Curious as to why you put a watermark on the pics - genuine question; did you take them?
p.s. it's hideous...again!
p.p.s. weight wise, the new GS has been proven to be a lot heavier than BMW say it is, basically the same as the old bike
The RT certainly could use the suspension lowering at stop feature the GS has. The issue for shorter riders has been that using the low seat was not always comfortable to sit on it made the rider triangle really cramped
Release a cheaper R80 gs for the masses , not just for the loaded few, more people to get into brand!!
Sounds like a RE target customer....OLD slow tech made cheap
Stand by China will build you something shortly
wtg for the R1300RS....and I need to try one of these shift assist bikes...you never know!
F shift assist but as someone who has owned a 1100RS, 1200RS and now a 1250RS, I'm interested in seeing a 1300.
Prefer a clutch… especially for slower speed control
Try before you buy, the Honda Goldwing is seamless at slow speeds.
I perfer the OPTION of the ecu taking over as long as it is only an easily replaceable MODULE. And theoretically a computer with good sensors and servos should be totally able to outperform any human operator even for "slower speed control" electronic signals are speed of light human reaction time and reliable repeatable cooridination of inputs? Yeah not so much. Which is why I love the idea of Honda Eclutch...not ridiculously expensive and simply an add on electro mechanical optional MODULE! Turn it off and go old school....get tired or maybe injured? turn it on let the bike's ecu take care of you....plus IF it is less than stellar the FIRST year it is offered? You know like quick shifters, ABS, curise control, fueling etc etc it is only going to get better and better with time and competition!
This is good news . . . BUT . . . still dreaming and hoping BMW does something else with that amazing inline 6.
Something like a K1600S, RS or naked R.
A man can dream...😔
This will indicate that a major update to the k1600 series is approaching or the complete cancellation of the k16 program
I wish it had a reverse function.
I'm very disappointed in the styling of this R1200RT prototype. With the terrible appearance of the new R1300GSA, and now the new R1200RT, I am not sure I will be replacing my existing two BMW bikes with either the new GSA or new RT. I have been riding BMWs for 25 years and it will be a shame to shift to another brand.
I still want a clutch on any bike I own. Had a Honda Goldwing with DCT, and I did not like it at all. I do like dynamic shift.
the RT is great but looks aren’t its strong suit. Anything to improve the bulbousness of the front would help
Love the old 1
The current RT for me its fabulous, but the new one looks pretty controversial
The pictures make the bike look lower and smaller than the present RT , will it have that lowering facility for us shorties , which would help as well get your foot over the hump of the pillion seat ? 😊👍👍👍
I see they have changed the pannier shape.
It looks like they are vario panniers, like on the new GS (but in their own style for the RT, indeed)
CF MOTO will eventually throw a shaft drive on a few models and undercut BMW prices by a fair amount in the coming years 🤔
Interested to try it. Not sold on the idea of the ASA, but need to test it.
Isn't the fairing really in 'mock-up' stage? Is it accurate at all to say this is what the actual RT will look like? If so, it's definitely different!
Definitely ASA with my foot drop on the left!
But BMW not adding finger paddles. Foot drop also and use the buttons to drop a gear occasionally.
I had DCT on my 2018 Africa twin it was brilliant to start with but over two and a half years of use the shine went off this system ,I now own a 2023 NT 1100 a manual version I feel safer on this bike and much prefer having a clutch I would not have another DCT or ASa sytem . Never liked the GS ugly brute however I rather like the look of the new bike .
indicators in the hand guards? for generations the RT has the indicators in in the mirror housing, and it for sure looks like that the 1300 will have the same.
I love that mirror setup by the way.
I probably need to see this one in the flesh to see if I will like it.
IT could use the height adjustment like already mentioned.
And please, loose the ridiculously large exhaust can.
I know the new RT was wearing it's camouflage but it looks good, looks like I may jump from my 1250 GSA onto the RT. I'm trying to like the new GSA, but I still think it's hideous. Thank you. P.S. I would go for the ASA.
I Betcha the new RT will be great (expensive, but great!!!!)
Not to be too random, but in my neck of the woods there’s some very good deals on ‘24 RS’s.
I really can't understand this push to get rid of a manual clutch. Slow control is just so much easier with a clutch than without. (I test-rode a Honda with DCT and kept thinking that a clutch would just be much nicer!) I'm very happy with a clutch lever BMW. I don't want to pay more for a bike that doesn't have one. Leave it alone please!
Did you spot the huge dashboard screen?
Nice! I had the 2016 R1200RT, and I loved it.
Police forces around the world rejoice you will get new bike😊😂😂😂
Great video Rob❤
I sort of think the engine jugs sticking out sideways is just all wrong.
But for those BMW fans, I'm sure the compromise of an engine sticking out a mile wide doesn't bother you.
NO way for ASA!
When can they update the K1600 already....
I would like to have the ASA system on a new RT, but I certainly hope the front of the bike won’t look like on this “spy shots”… 😨
And I also don’t like the side panniers’ look.
Well it is certainly a consistent design language across the new boxer models…
I couldn’t help but think, 🤔, that sounds like a nice medium sized car to me, when he mentioned eating up big miles in as much comfort as possible. 🤷♂️.
Just waiting for the R1300R...
Here they all come. It’s hideous.. it’s this, it’s that! I’ll be keeping my old steam powered hobby horse! BLAH BLAH BLAH!
Yeah, I know right? Bunch of boomers getting upset over every small change. Do they want manufacturers to just make the same bike forever?
@@-Eternal-Damnation- Well...
1. What boomers think matters, because the lot of you youngsters are mostly dirt poor and riding electric scooters, so this bike is not for you. You may stop drooling.
2. The opposite of ugly is not keeping the same bike forever, but actually designing good looking bikes. If the Italians can do it then why can't the Germans and Japanese also?
3. Nope, I'm not a boomer...

@@benkelly2190 You're board, or bored? Anyway... you don't get it, do you? I don't want to stay with what I have. I want new things, but beautifully designed. It's gotta look good too, not only to work well.
@@johnnyblue4799 haha the spelling police are here! Nee naw, nee naw. Bore of Ken..
A clear side view of bike✅ not a spy shot❌
When going to an ASA, you might as well get a Suzuki Bergman 650 and call it a day.
I see tons of BMW riders out on the road enjoying their GSs, RTs, and GTs. I've talked to many and not one has ever mentioned horsepower as a top feature of the bike they are riding. Their riding pace generally would only require a 100 horsepower so perhaps more horsepower is primarily aimed at the more of the BMW customers who have to be seen on the latest and "improved " model.
The RT models starting from the R80RT have in my opinion devolved in styling. Today's watch words are "it looks better in person" or "the looks will grow on you". Great motorcycles all seem to be new car expensive but why is it they have to bland, unattractive or ugly?
design of the front of the bike will determine if it will sell or not. for example, current front design of RT feels already dated. feels like an old bike.. especially the headlights
One of the larger names in motorcycle reviews on youtube pointed out that weight savings with new 1300 GS line is fiction because according to them the new weight spec is for a model stripped of things the 1250 used to have as standard the point being if you compare like equipped 1300GS to like equipted 1250gs it is pretty much a wash....is this TRUE? And if it IS true would that really surprise anyone? More marketing gimmick sounds like. But even if there is not any significant HONEST weight reduction I suppose the newer models compactness at least should be legit and for certain of us coming in under average stature? THAT could be worth the price of admission all by it's lonesome! Eh?
No ASA for me. I want to be in tune with the engine and drive train. If I wanted an automatic, I'd buy a scooter.
Good vid. The RT most always follows the GS series intro. The chassis is much the same between the two. I don't see where the new RT deviates too far from the GS structure. I'm waiting on the RS version. All in time. They don't sell near as many but they have a lot of BMW heritage behind them and miles under my ass.
It fell out the ugly tree, landed on a trampoline and went back through it again
I would not be purchasing an ASA optioned bike for 2-3 years after BMW releases. Not going to beta test for them.
Sound Decision!
For a heavy lump I’d want a reverse gear on the New RT ! I’d not want a bike without a manual clutch as want a daily short run bike not one just set up for continental long miles
Angular lines not that attractive compared to flowing lines of current 1250 RT
Doubt on what I’ve seen I’d be holding my breath to wait for the new RT to come out and swop from my K16 GT
The 1300 GS is a contender for my money for a lighter do it all bike BUT of dear it just doesn’t have the appeal of a single sided swing arm Ducati multistrada 🤷♂️
2012RT owner. 2025 RT is UGLY! 😮 Those German engineers must of been drinking too much beer 🍺.
Your Motobob marks on the pictures fuck it all up!
If the new R1300RT will look like this, nobody will buy it.
Hope the paniers stay on.
I think the sign shop placed the “BMW design studio” sign on the blind school building 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ these new bikes are ugly as hell….
This sounds like a great upgrade to the series and so long as they don't fuglify it like they did the sAdventure 1300, it should do well. Thank you!
SS from commiefornia, USA
The front fairing is hideous. Looks like the fairing on a 125cc put put bike 🤮
Defo not Asa for me, prefer to use the clutch
No thanks, not for me! Too much tech equals too expensive to buy and maintain. Would you take the risk of owning it long-term i.e out of warranty? Most will be bought on PCP and changed before the warranty expires. I personally don’t like all the new tech and certainly don’t want an automatic twist and go. I’ll stick with my 2016 1200RT, minimum tech and simple and cheap to maintain (myself). And it does everything that this bike can do!
Honda still no bring back of the ST 1300 surprise great news for BMW yet again.
Honestly, the styling change shocked me at first, and not in a good way. But in seeing more and more, it's a bold move that will pay dividends. It looks like Elon Musk designed it! _CyberByke._
Are 6 of the 7 things you need to know are that it’s ugly?
Whilst it's not for me, I'll be for someone else. If they enjoy.it then fuck what anyone else thinks.
All that gadgetry looks expensive. Wonder how much it will cost?
Would consider a 1300 RT, however BMW need to ditch the rubbish navigation system 🤬 and move to CarPlay type tech 👍
prob be less helmet banging with the pillion with an automatic trans
skill issue
Hope they will fix all the fucking problems of the 1300GS ... indeed, I have many issues on my 1300GS and BW just does not know how to fix them. I am pissed off and regret, for now, my bought.
An RS. Please
Seems like BMW is putting a lot of effort into making their bikes as ugly as possible. I don’t care how good the 1300 boxer engine is, the sheer ugliness, over complicated electronics and expensive gadgets are making it really easy for me to hold onto my 1250 for a few more years.
1250’s are ugly too, not exactly a sexy panigale
Everyone is following Honda with auto transmissions which will attract older riders!
I hope they don't cock up the RS.
They will
People forget that BMW have a real history of terrible designs
R1200ST
R1200CL
F650 Scarver
That new electric scooter monstrosity
K1200R
They don't sell and they don't learn
Too late 🤦🏿
Well, hopefully, they will take design cues from the S1kRR instead of this hideous machine.
Manual for me
Did they hire blind people to design the bikes as part of some inclusion trend?
It looks pretty good compared to the previous generation. It's not like the R1250RT was much of a looker anyway. The new GS looks great also, except for the GS Adventure, that looks hideous 😂
whoever buys an rt doesn't really care about more horses
why BMW WHY !!!!
It really doesnt look that bad lol. Are you forgetting what the R1250RT looks like?? That bike is hella ugly
I hope BMW trims down the fairing. The 1250 RT’s looks like a fully extended plastic umbrella. Way too bulbous.
this might be the most German looking bike I've ever seen. pls paint it right
Boite automatique hummmm
Having ruined the GSA, they now ruin the RT.. It seems BMW are hell bent on destroying the brand. Currently I ride a RT, but it will be my last purhase from this manufacturer. Ducati, moto Guzzi or Honda will get my money next time.
Ruined? I own a 2021 RT. I love it and this new one looks awesome. Yeah I like the Motoguzzi, Ducati and Honda too but don’t see how they’re “better”
I sense another fail by BMW...
acceleration is marginal at best.
