Nice summary Rob and the new bike looks great, ticking lots of boxes that should've been ticked before (screen adjustment, IMU, pannier size, headlights) and some neat additional extras like the electonic suspension and sleeker aesthetic update. Keeping the price the same is a good move by Honda too. Shaft drive it doesn't need - chain adjust is simple and quick while I'd much rather have the weight saving and power efficiency from a chain. The only thing I'd add are more colour options, the white and red being the best schemes previously. Overall, I'm liking it!
Solid update package just 3yrs in. Wish they brought it to the US. I don’t need another expensive bagger (Goldwing) to go with my Harley, but this would be a nice midrange sport touring bike for shorter trips. Price is excellent, and checks the Honda box for me.

I ride an Africa Twin but, at 72 years old, well . . . you get the drift. From my point of view, the only way Honda can fix the NT is to sell it in North America. It’s the bike I’ve been wanting to buy since its release. Pity. PS - While I appreciate the dribble down technology from the Africa Twin, I’m also convinced the NT is an aftermarket magnet. Like the Africa Twin, it calls for aftermarket exhaust, better and heated seats, windscreens and other farkles.
Since introducing the model in Europe they've sold 12,000 of them. Not sure what Honda's manufacturing capacity is but when they're still flogging the heavy goldwing, 4 adventure bike models, 7 cruisers and 7 standard bikes and six mini bikes plus dual sport models there's in North America there's probably little room for the NT1100. At 535 lbs wet, the NT1100, is an attractive alternative to the other heavier touring models excluding the sport touring models by BMW and Yamaha mentioned in the video.

Missed the re-location of the front indicators. The previous setup used to reflect in the screen winglets. The re-location to being integrated into the headlights is much better 👍
I have to say that a good comparison for the NT1100 would be with the Kawasaki Versys 1000 as it looks like they are both trying to be on the touring side of sport touring, forgoing any offroad prowess. Makes sense for my riding style and I think just about anyone who really wants a larger displacement bike. I think the similar styling and purpose between these two would make a good comparison, and the difference between the 1100cc parallel twin and the 1000cc (now 1100cc) inline four would shed a lot of light on what makes the perfect modern sport tourer.
Can I just congratulate you, Bob, for being the first reviewer to amply describe the weather protective characteristics of a motorcycle from head to foot (almost). Commendable indeed. 🤭
I wouldn’t bother unless it’s shaft drive. Good bye Honda, hello Yamaha Tenere 1200. I like less maintenance and expense. Well over 80% of your total maintenance, is the chain alone. Honda just decided to cheap out.
So, bought a 1050XT V Strom. Made time to do a 1000 mile ride this summer around the Northeastern States, and have come to discover that it is possibly the most uncomfortable machine I have ever ridden. Thank you for the review of the NT, I think that I need to check this machine out.
I just can't get my head around the fact that Honda doesn't offer the NT1100 with shaft drive. I know the target price was the reason, but why not make a higher priced version with shaft drive and DCT? It would be an awesome commuter bike and realy compete with many bikes from other brands. Too bad....
@@fs5866 Honda has the XL700 Transalp with a chain, and the same engine for the NT700 Deauville, which has a shaft. So in a way, Honda should know how to make an engine suitable for both I guess...
If you do test whether a full-face helmet fits in the side cases, please test it with a larger size. I’ve found that some luggage that the manufacturer says will accommodate a full-face helmet will hold a medium or large but maybe not an XL or 2XL.
Surprised Honda has stuck with DCT and not just added auto changing to the manual box as per BMW and Yamaha. Add the e-Clutch to the mix for low speed control and you have the perfect combo. One model instead of separate manual and DCT bikes, slightly lower weight, and no arguments over manual/auto as you can basically have it all.
There are definitely some benefits to these new AMT systems, but DCT is really very smooth and gives them that as a competitive selling point. Got the AMT MT-09 coming in a few days so interested to see how it compares, but the E-Clutch for example isn't as slick as DCT IME and not perfect on the clutchless downshifts
@@motobob I ride a DCT NC so understand some of the advantages of DCT however as long as an AMT system is slicker than manual then most would be happy. My point was more about with one system with an AMT system and e-clutch Honda would be well in front of the pack and there would be none of this I would never go auto or I must have a clutch what about low speed control, everyone could be happy and that could be their selling point.
@@motobobinteresting you say that, I test rode the 24 tiger 900 gt pro recently, the quickshifter was smoother than I can be in both directions from 2nd gear up. Really sublime and made me think why does anyone need anything else? Clutch for low speed control and a sublime quickshifter for everything else. This was riding 2 up BTW with the Mrs whose quick to point out any clunky shifts 😂
Ha don't worry your present bike is more than a match for the new one and defo better at filtering through traffic. I can't see that much difference that I'd want to change...
It's already a serious contender as police motorcycle. Low cost maintenance, durable, easy to ride, easy to ride, and most of all, good performance in city.
The NT1100 is not available in North America. Honda is still pushing its goldwing as the only touring model and it is still plugging 7 different cruiser models, 7 standard models, and 6 mini moto models. Perhaps next time you could mention that the NT1100 is not available in North America.
My BMW side paniers are also big enough for a full face. Sadly not for a Neotec2 fliplid, Top box should take 2 full faces but just one fliplid. For a touring bike i think you need space for 2 fliplids, to be practical.
Sometimes it's just the special shape of the top box that does. I have a Givi V47 that cannot hold two Neotec2 on my Crossrunner. So had to buy a V56 for riding with my wife. Could be that the 50l hold two. To be tested!
Good review , the updates do seem to correct most of the initial weaknesses. Notice new integral front indicators on the promotional vid, look better & avoid the screen reflection?? Had a 1000 AT back in 2016, great motor even then, shame about the early spokes though, must ride this update next year.
An American here, I wish i could get this here T_T. Just randomly was looking for new upcoming bikes and instantly fell in love with this. Looked up info and bam, no plans for US market.
I have an ST1300. 2006 model. Love it. Also a honda xr650l. At 49 I'm leaning the 650l is becoming big for me and I'm 6,3 at 240 pounds. I grew up in heavy equipment and construction and mechanics and farming and my back and body are falling apart. I'd like the power and smoothness on the road of my st1300 with electric windshield and luggage, the off road ability of the xr650l and the ease and use and lightness of a honda silver wing 600 scooter! Ah..... and honda reliability and no payments. Ktm is boutique and fun and exciting but scarily unreliable with issues. Maybe I need the Africa twin or the ADV honda 750 scooter form overseas. I'm in USA. 🇺🇸
Always found the DCT box to be clumsy at slow speed. I'm surprised that Honda haven't offered the e-clutch as an alternative as the option to use a clutch at slow speed and when manoeuvring would be advantageous.
As a former owner of the NT1100 and now a owner of the BMW R1250 RT, I'm pleased to see that the NT has finally received active suspension and an IMU-features I definitely missed. However, I had hoped they would also introduce active cruise control. The main reason for my switch, though, was and still is the 1250 engine, along with the superior comfort of the RT compared to the NT. Honda really needs to develop a CRF 1200 engine with more power. Right now, it's just too lackluster. My wish list for Honda: active cruise control, more power, and an electric windscreen-then they'd really have something.
@@Stratocasterhead51 I disagree that the RT's competitor is the Gold Wing. The RT is a sport touring bike, while the Gold Wing is a touring bike, significantly more expensive and over 100 kg heavier.
@@lr_spb Yes but the NT isnt really SPORT touring either. Suspension wayyyy too soft, not a lot of power... It is just a touring bike. Nothing wrong with that by the way. Eitherway, its a completely different price point. It isnt really meant to be a rival i feel.
@@Stratocasterhead51 I completely agree- the NT is a fantastic touring bike, and it excels in that regard. Active cruise control would have been the icing on the cake.
As much as I love the current nt1100 which I got last May, I’m kinda pissed they fixed the windscreen and the integrated indicators so late. They should have been there from the get go. My 4500€ honda forza scooter from 2019 came with an electronic windscreen! I’m also intrigued by the wider seat at the rear and hope it’s compatible with the current model. My wife has been complaining about the current comfort seat.
Great machine but it needs shaftdrive! Just bring back a modern Crosstourer with all the goodies & more from the current flagship the Africa Twin… Name: VFR1300X Crosstourer DCT Max weight: 240kg wet Electronic suspension Apple CarPlay Adaptive Cruisecontrol The Power Of Dreams ❤
Is the DCT better behaved? My abiding memory of the NT was that it got to 6th WAY too soon... Honda reckoned that was to conserve fuel, but it laboured the engine too much so riders switched it to one of the sports modes so it wouldnt do that...
The DCT adapts to the riding style, you just need to give it some time. Also, in standard mode it switches to higher gear as soon as possible to save fuel, but in a sport mode it behaves completely different. Also, you can customise modes and set up rpm range where it should go to higher gear.
Agree that it goes for 6th as quick as poss, and found myself always running it (and other DCT bikes) in Sport mode on the DCT to help it hang onto the gears a bit. I didn't go into it too much in this video but there was a mention of tweaks to the shift timing both up and down the box, and they also specifically said it'll downshift under braking to take advantage of engine braking which will be a big improvement. It had this weird feeling of running on into corners before which was a bit unnerving and so you really had to have it in Manual if you were pushing on
I tried the new Africa Twin a couple of weeks ago, which has the new DCT updates and integration with IMU (just like this NT will have) and I have to say it's a lot better! (I own the current NT with DCT, so I can easily compare).
@@mhvshn I'd very (very) much like to investigate how that "customise modes and set up rpm range" trick is done. You could be a very wealthy man if you can show people how thats done, cause according to Honda Invercargill, and Honda NZ, it cant be adjusted...
@@MotoRiderTube Next time you're on the AT, (I cant, I'm too short) try an experiment... In DRIVE, pootle up to a car at 50 kph, move out, and without touching anything else, grab a handful of throttle to pass that car, and see what it does... The NT, rather stubbornly held on to 6th, and the bike "diesel'd" its way around the car, still doing 50... If the new bike changes down a couple of gears, I'll buy it... It's really the only fault I see with an otherwise very nice bike.
I assume no heated seats and Car Play is not wireless still as these get no mention, but a good update and getting close to being a default choice. Still would like a full spec version with these and perhaps an electric screen . Can understand the lack of shaft , based on AT platform and cost to develop.
Really disappointing that Honda won't sell this bike in the USA. I can't believe there isn't a market for this bike. It's a poor man's Goldwing. I would buy one. 😢
Heated seat should have been an option, especially for people who commute year round in northern Europe. And does it have tyre pressure sensors? I can't find that info.
Why still no Belt drive, so easy to engineer a conversion, and no weight penalty. They have the reasons to do it, and the design would not require any major wheel/swingarm/ gearbox redesign. I seen a video from someone who spoke to the people who designed it, and it was said no shaft drive because of price, but why not use a belt drive then.
Great review like always Bob. 🙂 The only thing I´m waiting for is a direct comparison between the ATAS and the new NT1100 (will only be possible after arriving of the NT) aspecialy on the road. I´m struggling between these to bikes because of the relatively small price difference (I would take DCT and the EERA on the NT)... The ATAS looks "better" to me and might be more versatile compared to the NT, but at the moment I know im 99% of the time ON road, thats why I´m very unsure at the moment what to choose 🙈🙈
Indicator reflection from the wind deflectors and the exposed wiring that hung from the TFT plug put me off buying one last year - If these 2 issues have been sorted this may my next tourer
I would have liked shaft drive, that's the reason I got a Tiger 1200 instead of this. I might have been able to over look that however, if the CarPlay had been wireless, or if there was a cubby hole to stash your phone when you plug it in.
Interesting you say fixed it, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the current one, I would say they have improved it, however could still do with better colour options. 😊
Really needed shaft drive. I realise that wasn't going to happen, but it doesn't change the reality. Does it have backlit switch gear? If not, why not? Do the revised panniers hold a full face helmet? Those on my BMW do, the ones on my Forza 750 are woeful.
Makes you wonder why the Africa Twin AS DCT is £3.5k more and centre stand and bags are extra. No hill hold assist/blind spot/ adaptive cruise/ heated seats options and the tft screen is really looking dated on both models. Needs a thorough update.
In the real world, it's not a negative. It's lighter, less complicated, and today's chains stay in spec longer and last a very long time. I've got one bike with, one without. Not bothered by either - for any reason.
Looks good...However, if there is one thing this bike is lacking its back lit controls on the left hand side...its a mess and Honda have yet again failed to address the problem on this bike and the Africa Twin. ..Even the NX 500 is now back lite
If they wanted to sell at least twice as many of these, it should have been shaft drive. It's not like it's impossible to do, the 647cc in the XL650V (chain) and NTV650 (shaft) were identical.
I guess Honda doesn’t want to send the NT 1100 to the United States but you know what we’ll have other choices. We have Yamaha KTM and some other models and makes so we’ll have those to buy if it doesn’t want to send their too bad they’re missing out on that one..
Any UK rider whos been around the block a few decades knows that 100hp is plenty, and a stomping midrange is where it's at for blasting uk roads.
Agree on that mate. Have borrowed so many revvy press bikes where you barely ever get to use their full potential.
100hp is more than the majority of riders can truly handle and master. Its enough for almost every need, unless you wanna track your bike.
Anything beyond 100hp is chest thumping.

@@fs5866well it was done with the Transalp & Deville back in the day.
The XL650V & XL700V
Same engine but Deuville had shaftdrive & Transalp did not…
So, bought a 1050XT V Strom. Made time to do a 1000 mile ride this summer around the Northeastern States, and have come to discover that it is possibly the most uncomfortable machine I have ever ridden. Thank you for the review of the NT, I think that I need to check this machine out.
I'm really intriged by this bike it checks a lot of boxes and it's more affordable than the BMW R1300RT, it gets my vote for my next touring bike.
And it's a Honda☝
@@PC-jt2nz one thing, is it coming to the U.S.?
That's the items I want updated on my NT. I will hold off until 2026 as I only bought mine in March.
I just can't get my head around the fact that Honda doesn't offer the NT1100 with shaft drive. I know the target price was the reason, but why not make a higher priced version with shaft drive and DCT? It would be an awesome commuter bike and realy compete with many bikes from other brands. Too bad....
because the engine is not designed with a shaft drive in mind? You do realise to do that you have to pretty much redesign the engine
@@fs5866 Honda has the XL700 Transalp with a chain, and the same engine for the NT700 Deauville, which has a shaft. So in a way, Honda should know how to make an engine suitable for both I guess...
Get a VFR1200X Crosstourer DCT and you’re all set to go! 😅 not to mention the other things it brings.
@@SanderII man what are you smoking, the new Transalp engine is brand new design.
@@fs5866 The brand new Transalp is the XL750. I am talking about the previous generation, the XL700. I am smoking nothing.
Nuts picking my new nt1100 up this week if I'd of known this was coming I would of waited and bought the blue one .bugger.
Said it before and I'll say it again, if they sold this bike in the US I'd buy one. 6spd manual for me.
Could never see the point of electronic suspension until I recently got a multistrada v4s - why did I wait so long - now a must have feature
That what the topbox is for
Great analytical dissection!
Thanks David, appreciate the kind words 👍
Beautiful bike and congrats for all the upgrades, specially the DC.Hope they get rid of the chain on the next generation.
112Nm @ 5500 rpm, good review, love to see you ride it to see what you think of the e-suspension
come on in this day of age we need shaftdrive and electric screen if you have the money thats where its at make it an option
Why make it heavier and more expensive for slightly added convenience? None of its (serious) competitors have shaft drive, why would Honda?
@@MotoRiderTube Honda does have shaft drive bikes so why not
A chain is a total ball ache.
@@nealbeard1 yeah a chain is a nuisance when touring anyway, shaft drive is so much cleaner.
Good review , the updates do seem to correct most of the initial weaknesses. Notice new integral front indicators on the promotional vid, look better & avoid the screen reflection??
Had a 1000 AT back in 2016, great motor even then, shame about the early spokes though, must ride this update next year.
That’s the bike I’m looking for. A non DCT model. Too bad it’s not available in the US
Wish it would make it's way over to North America, but I guess Honda doesn't want it competing with the Goldwing.
Adaptive ride height would be a bonus on the electronic suspension option
True although it's not as high as a big adventure bike - 820mm seems reasonable
An American here, I wish i could get this here T_T. Just randomly was looking for new upcoming bikes and instantly fell in love with this. Looked up info and bam, no plans for US market.
Honda listens to customer concerns. Thanks for video
The upgrades look good, this was already a good platform. One of the rare Honda's I like the look of.
It might be practical but holy smokes. You need your beer goggles on.
Honda has the goldwing to rival the RT. The NT is the entry level touring bike.
Just bring back a modern Crosstourer with all the goodies & more from the current flagship the Africa Twin…
Name: VFR1300X Crosstourer DCT
Max weight: 240kg wet
Electronic suspension
Apple CarPlay
Adaptive Cruisecontrol
The Power Of Dreams ❤
shaftdrive! teks 30% of the Power vs 10% for Chane
Thanks for the great early review of the NT 1100 I'm waiting also for reviews of the new Honda Forza 750
Bring it to the U.S. please
Some worthwhile improvements for riders make this a really desirable tourer (with DCT of course).
Thanks for a great vid! Do you believe/know if the NC750X will be revisited as well next year?
The 15 cm longer splash guard is at the front fender not the rear.
If you compare old and new you can easily spot this.
Nice job by Honda, really subtle but important updates to NT1100 ❤❤❤
It's one of the easiest tourers to ride
Another great video 😊🤟🤟
The NT was already a very good bike. This one is even better. Still the new VFR would be the game changer.
Don't get my hopes up! I think the messiah is more likely to return than would the VFR lineup. Had two, miss them both.
I assume no heated seats and Car Play is not wireless still as these get no mention, but a good update and getting close to being a default choice. Still would like a full spec version with these and perhaps an electric screen . Can understand the lack of shaft , based on AT platform and cost to develop.
Alas, not available in the US 😢😢😢
The electronic suspension is only available with DCT? Or you can have it with manual transmision?
Anything new for 25 transalp?colors at least?
Nothing so far but I do believe there are still more Honda announcements to come and we'll post up as soon as we hear anything
Look like they have a longer front fender to..have a red 2024 and the front fender was so short the the rain water hit the upside of the tank...
Good to see they've deleted the illuminated indicator stalks.
I will stick with my FJR 1300.
Electric screen and shaft drive.
If anyone can tell me of another bike that ticks more boxes then I am all ears
Peace
What about the BMW R1250 RT? It comes with active cruise control, an electric windscreen, a powerful engine, and much more.
1200RT, although it makes my friends final edition look tiny, guess which one weighs less !
Kawasaki Versys 1000. Still has an inline four with better ergos and better handling, a great seat and windscreen....all for $1K less than a new FJR.
What about the Triumph Tiger 1200 gt explorer? Tons more features
Thank you for the advice.
Features?
My old Harley doesn't even have a fuel gauge
Great review like always Bob. 🙂
The only thing I´m waiting for is a direct comparison between the ATAS and the new NT1100 (will only be possible after arriving of the NT) aspecialy on the road.
The indicators are now integrated in the headlight cluster
Can you in the future when you put the price of a bike, also put it in euros? Keep up the great work! #regardsfromcroatia
Any news on an NT750 using the transalps engine??
I would have liked shaft drive, that's the reason I got a Tiger 1200 instead of this. I might have been able to over look that however, if the CarPlay had been wireless, or if there was a cubby hole to stash your phone when you plug it in.
I really like it
I liked the old one and this new one is brilliant
Where have the front turn signals gone?
Good point forgot to mention that - they're integrated into the DRLs like the X-ADV now.
@@motoboblooks much better !
Interesting you say fixed it, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the current one, I would say they have improved it, however could still do with better colour options. 😊
Do I still have to use a USB cable if I want to use Android Auto, or will the 2025 version finally allow it to be done wirelessly?
Needs shaft drive.
Yes it does. And moore power too.
Really needed shaft drive. I realise that wasn't going to happen, but it doesn't change the reality.
Does it have backlit switch gear? If not, why not?
Do the revised panniers hold a full face helmet? Those on my BMW do, the ones on my Forza 750 are woeful.
If you need to see and read the switches you are going to use then you shouldn't really be on a motorcycle.
Makes you wonder why the Africa Twin AS DCT is £3.5k more and centre stand and bags are extra. No hill hold assist/blind spot/ adaptive cruise/ heated seats options and the tft screen is really looking dated on both models. Needs a thorough update.
Two big negatives are the limited horsepower and lack of availability in the USA
To me it looks gorgeous tbh.❤
I think also this bike needs shaft drive to keep up with its competition
In the real world, it's not a negative. It's lighter, less complicated, and today's chains stay in spec longer and last a very long time. I've got one bike with, one without. Not bothered by either - for any reason.
I absolutely agree with you
Who wants to do chain maintenance? When your touring not me.
My BMW C650 Sport is fully automatic. There are also other brands including Honda that have fully automatic bikes, such as the Suzuki Burgman.
You are talking about scooters.
Every scooter is automatic, as far as I know.
This video is about a motorcycle. . . .
This front fender extension is very noticeable on the profile photos
Ik didn't hear anything about Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. So I guess that still requires a USB cable and no place to store your phone?
Same as before. Quad Lock make a wireless CarPlay adapter which could be worth a shot
@@motobobHmm... I'm afraid that's not going tot work with my Android phone... Great tip for Apple users though!

Does anybody knows if the left hand controls stayed the same 1000 buttons or was it updated as well?
Stayed the same according to pictures
Thanks!
An extension of the front fender has been changed but not at the rear
Looks good...However, if there is one thing this bike is lacking its back lit controls on the left hand side...its a mess and Honda have yet again failed to address the problem on this bike and the Africa Twin. ..Even the NX 500 is now back lite
If they wanted to sell at least twice as many of these, it should have been shaft drive. It's not like it's impossible to do, the 647cc in the XL650V (chain) and NTV650 (shaft) were identical.
The big problem is that I cannot get one of these in Canada....damn it.
Bring it to the States!
I guess Honda doesn’t want to send the NT 1100 to the United States but you know what we’ll have other choices. We have Yamaha KTM and some other models and makes so we’ll have those to buy if it doesn’t want to send their too bad they’re missing out on that one..
I wish some of these new updates would be fitted to the older model years...
Nice bike. Haven't heard whether or not it comes to America.
why is this not available here in US ?
The previous gen had annoying vibrations on the handlebars.
This would be an excellent cold weather commuter for me but not available here. Going to probably end up with a 10 year old K1600.
