If you wonder how the Vampires made it past the minefield: They threw their combat knifes to stick blade-first into the ground and then hopped from knife to knife. You can see it in the original.
That sounds pretty badass. I'm surprised they didn't include it.
@@cmck362 it breaks the flow of the conversation, the OVAs have a much more "epic" feel, where every event during the war is spread out and given grant status, so the abridged cuts it down in some areas to focus on the characters talking and the timing of jokes and events.

Understand that in the original Hellsing Ultimate, the events of the show take place in the late 1990s. So yes it has been 50 years since WWII.
In the original, Maxwell was granted the rank of Archbishop. In this case, he is only second to the Pope and has full command of the Papal Knights. Officially the Catholic Church disbanded the Papal Army a long time ago, so apparently this army was always on reserve off the books. They are about 3000 in number. He used the Army to instigate an official crusade. The Ninth Crusade. They are armed with anti-tank rifles with halberd style bayonets. In the abridged, these are just some of the worse people you can imagine so they have the excuse to kill. Not the official army associated with the Catholic Church.
ngl, the original design of the crusaders is awesome with the anti-tank rifles and giant shields.
They also called it the Airborne Crusade in the original. They got a lot of transport and attack helios. Nice touch with the flares in the later episode though.

I love that last scene. When this episode was released, i was seriously scared that Team 4 Star would get in trouble for this!
They did it masterfully, because they made it pretty clear that these guys are the losers that showed up INSTEAD of the actual head Catholic paladin orders

This was a very...gutsy speech there at the end. They had to lean fully and completely into the ridiculousness of religious extremism otherwise they could piss off the whole religion. And that wouldn't be ideal. Anti-poor, anti-gay,.....anti-black. They got SO close to skating right over that line. I personally was raised as a Christian, but backed away from it back in late high school due to priests...taking advantage of their position to put it mildly. I will say this, in a very easily offended position for this series, they freaking NAILED that speech. And it was SO funny. (As a german with family ties to the Nazis, and very southern family) Don't know why I ranted but just take a moment to think about the consideration needed for those jokes to be pulled off as dark as they were. Damn impressive imo

No Vampires don't have three eyes. But having a "third" eye is what they say if you not only can see through the mists of time & see the future, but also see through illusions like here. A supernatural sixth sense. What is expected from true vampires like Alucard (who jokes having infinite ones because he's so OP) & Seras supposedly as well.
Happy belated Birthday! This episode always cracks me up. From the crazy references to religious extremism to the constant flirting and sex jokes between Seras and the Frenchman, this ones a wild ride. It even gets better from here on too!

Just for clarification, I'm catholic (and find this hilarious lol) those hats the knights were wearing are indeed catholic ritual traditional stuff, they are from the middle ages used for specual masses, nothing more, the KKK just stole the look, they wear them plain, traditional stuff like that is really ornamented :p

@@theduckgoesmoo no, christianity takes long hair only for women (not only catholics). I mean, a catholic regular guy can have long hair, priests would eventually say "you should cut that" but nothing else beyond that. Priests, on the other hand, have very strict rules of dressing, acting, etc., short hair, no fashionable stuff, etc. basically nothing luxurious/fashionable beyond the ritual stuff they already wear for mass. They are not allowed to wear those things either if they are not in any religious service. That's why Maxwell and the others wearing his religious attire all the time is kinda wrong too. The other priests shown in the anime wear jackets, longcoats and shirts, etc. and have short hair, they're more realistic on that.
I understand why the anime does that, christianity, specially catholicism, is a very exotic thing in Japan, that's why it's rarely properly depicted in anime :P

8:50. That was a claymore mine. Basically a big ass version of a shotgun. Explosion inside activated either remotely or by trip wire launches dozens of lead balls forward towards the enemy.
To put in perspective how much I LOVE this show, I watch it in its entirety atleast once a month. Sometimes more... i can recite it all...
Fun fact: before the anime, manga readers were extremely confused whether Integra was a boy or a girl until near the end of the manga, two things happened. 1) The writers confirmed that Integra was a girl, and 2) you could clearly see her breasts under the shirt.

If I recall correctly, they're also shaped so they spray the balls like shrapnel in a cone, in one direction rather than all around.
... and, again, if I recall rightly, basically would go off at very close range. So those ball bearings would have an excessive amount of kinetic force.

@@wolffire5421 They are. Its one of the nastiest anti-personell mines out there (but are apparently super user friendly). There are very few that are worse, mostly because those few are designed explicitly to only wound and maim. The claymore at least does the favor of usually killing the target(s). The North Koreans have a mine that only blows of your leg below the thigh or knee. Worst part is that the NK one is made of mostly cardboard or wood so its super hard to detect. The claymore at least uses steel balls that can be detected with a metal detector.
AVRO Architect I mean if you somehow manage to survive, you’ll be dead in under a minute because of how much blood you’ll be losing due to how many holes the claymore just punched into you.
This show knows how to go to the extremes instantly. Sure sometimes is a build up to the climax moment, but then bam went from 3 to 11 real quick.

To answer your question at 8:53, no, those were claymore mines. They stick a shaped charge in the back of the block behind a wall of b-b pellets or ball bearings (can't remember which exactly) which are launched by the explosion, and absolutely shred any enemy personnel in front of the mine.

@@joshcohen3136 Not specifically a Critter reference. TFS named the mercenaries after the voice actors who portrayed them in the original Hellsing Ultimate as sort of a little shoutout. They did something similar on DBZA with the Cell Juniors, who were all named after voice actors who had previously voiced Cell.
Oh btw it was either in this Episode or the last, Integra said that the Nat$i vampires are fake vampires, that's because Alucard is the only true vampire in the world, all of the others are fake/dimi vampires, Alucard is the only true vampire, (fun fact in Hellsing vampires are demons) as well as Seras since she is considered an "offspring" of Alucard

8:42 this is actually how explosives work. Grenades, landmines, claymores you name it. It's a common saying that it isn't the explosion that kills you, it's the shrapnel. This is why.
Interesting weapon fact, most anti take missiles use the explosive heat combined with the pressure of the explosion and missile shape, to heat a bit of copper till red hot which is then forced forward and pierces/melts its way through said tank.

Going to nitpick here. I actually think its Jeb Forrest. They took the names from 2 confederate cavalry officers. J.E.B. Stuart and N.B. Forrest.
So. Heres your "Why hellsing ultimate abridged is freaking awesome" fact of the day.
In normal Hellsing Ultimate, they were all Catholic knights and catholics in general is treated as the typical fundamentalist extremists. The knights at the end were all catholics.
Here, TFS might make jokes at their expense, but ultimately treat catholics with far more nuance. Thats why Maxwell was only able to barely scrape by with extremists around the world. Fundamentalism was the main issue with Maxwells army in the abridged

The grandpa sounded like AntfishTAS. He's the only Black abridger I know, one of the funniest actors ever in abridging (Ginyu/didoria/various in dbza), and made the hysterical JoJo's bizarre adventure abridged (jjbatas) long before the new JoJo anime that made it become popular in the west. His Dio/Jotaro/Joseph are the fucking best. Possibly my favorite abridged series, criminally underrated, and even has a Mr. Popo cameo lol, if anyone here likes abridged shows and hasn't seen it go watch it, its only like 10 episodes.

Maybe it’s a language or a culture thing but from a German view the jokes/one liners of Bernadotte and his guys didn’t really click. Out of all of them Seras' Schnitzel one liner was actually the best even if it wasn’t their intention.
