- Our other homemade shifter kart returns! The Yard Dart is our full suspension, 190cc 5 speed yard kart sized build. We wanted a nimble, fast, and comfortable vehicle the size of a typical go kart for easy trail riding. We parked this custom go kart last year due to strange running issues, and in today's episode, we revive this fast go kart to try to fix the problems.
Thanks for Watching!

Happy new year everyone! We're working hard on our first big car build- stay tuned!
Please install a 250cc 2 stroke engine from a Suzuki rm, Honda Cr, Kawasaki kx, Yamaha yz. You won’t be disappointed
Happy new years guys 🤟🏾
I hope it’s a car build using a predator 212, you know back to the roots and what not
Maybe back pressure issue due to exhaust.
Happy New Year, guys ❤️
I'd love to see what the Yard Dart does as Drag Dart 💯💯 This thing looks damn quick
I had the same problem with my ZS190. I fixed it with an OORacing 100w ignition corrector and OORacing CDI. That stopped the mid/high throttle breakup. I also added a real PE28 carb which also cleaned up the running. Those things resolved all of my running issues and now it runs like a dream.
I've had a problem with a Chinese quad that had the same issue it's not the carb it's the CDI either the pickup or the box itself has going bad
Exactly like I said.
Agreed. I had the same issue. I fixed it with the OORacing ignition corrector and CDI.
also had a Chinese quad with tight valves cause the same issue. they wear tight so it could be something to look into
I haven't watched the video yet but I would consider checking the primary stator. those can cause no spark, intermittent spark and even cause the engine to not rev up and sound like a carb issue.
If you have a multimeter, you can go around the bike and check all the ignition components, except for maybe the cdi but if everything else check out, its most likely the cdi.
That backfire sounds like ignition problems. My 150cc Chinese bike did the same thing. I changed the CDI box that had a higher rev limiter and changed the coil with a new spark plug. That took care of my problem. Hopefully it'll work for you.
Still can be an ignition issue, but backfire is out the intake system. This is afterfiring, in the exhaust.
I think yall need to release plans for both the yard dart and the drag rail, those 2 are the ones I'd like to build most for myself. Looking forward to 2023's awesome builds!
Plug wire crack or moisture
Absolutely
yard dart rules. its the best balance that an old person like me with many projects under my belt shares in common with someone just starting. advice for new people=get a go kart, learn gearing and tire size/preasure (yard dart three point oHHH might just have front springs and ballonish rear)
Oh man, I was JUST re-watching the Yard Dart series and thinking that it's my favorite build you guys have ever done. Yall must have sensed it.
If it keeps giving you issues check the pickup for the ignition on the flywheel, I've had issues with the housing being cracked and loose making it not run right and being all over the place. Im thinking it's something to do with ignition
Agreed, why is no one checking voltages it was obvious to me that elec ignition was missing the mark
i agree aswell its always sounding like it drowning in gas
Vibrations at higher rpms throw it off time and bap bap bap bap bap you have a rotary powered cart without the rotary.
@@NubsWithGuns where did he say "poke and hope"? He gave a legit idea and explanation to check voltage going into and out of the cdi. It would certainly head in the right direction, or at the very least check a rather large component of the list. 🤷🤔
Sweet looking Yard Kart!
TIP: For putting brand new inner-tubes into tires, cover them in talcum powder. It'll help act as a bit of a dry lubricant and will make the surface of the tube less grippy so when you air it up it can get into shape. Also make sure to air up and depressurize the tube a couple times when the tire is on the rim to help make sure it's not bound up and is seated correctly.
20 year motorcycle mechanic here and I can be wrong but that foam filter looked pretty dry, foam filters are amazing as long as they are properly oiled. Head down to a yamaha motorcycle shop and pick up a bottle of Yamalube foam filter oil. You want a thorough coating on the foam but don't over oil.
The oil gets super sticky and traps dirt once the solvent evaporates out of it, it keeps your foam lasting longer, and it also solves alot of strange tuning issues. If the filter is dry it actually flows too much air and does not have enough restriction, I know it sounds counter productive, and can cause fueling issues at higher RPM.
At idle or partial throttle applications its usually decent because there is enough air speed and vacuum created by the slide being slightly open but at wide open it looses alot of the vacuum and can create a lean condition up top especially snapping from idle to wide open most of the time it just falls on its face. With a properly oiled filter it still has enough restriction to help pull the fuel up through the jetting at wide open.
The air fuel screw on the carb usually if it is on the bottom by the bowl adjust fuel I discovered at sea level or really close 2 ¾ turns out from lightly closed was the happy spot for just about everything I have ever worked on. If it adjust air, usually on the side of the carb, its usually 1 turn out from lightly seated is a happy spot.
Religiously watch the videos, love the content, looks like way too much fun. Hopefully this may shed some light on your issues if anything might just get you some snappier throttle response off idle
Warning though the yamaha filter oil makes a mess, I always put a plastic bag over my hand and used the bag to massage the oil into the filter, then let the filter air dry for about 10-15 mins to let solvent evaporate or can cause a temporary over rich condition at idle also if you over oil the filter. Just a good coating overall is all you need.
I might be wrong but hope this helps
Man y’all just keep blowing my mind and would love to get plans to build one
As a 2 stroke guy and had a lot of ignition problems i am very sure that the ignition coil or / both stator is bad as they can still work but have false igition pulses or just week spark and it seams to be that the spark blows out, So be sure that the coil and stator is good ( swich them out ) and check for other stuff like sparkplugg gap, bad ground ( between frame and engine ) and check some other timing related things ( pickup, valves etx )
You guys make me want to build a yard cart SO bad!
my favourite kart you guys have built
Happy New Year boys. Looking forward to more awesome content in 2023.
Had a similar issue with a grom clone with a high compression setup. For me I had to go with a 2 step colder spark plug because it was causing preignition with the Chinese plug it came with. You could jet it up and it would run smooth but wouldn't make any power. Then jet it down and it would backfire and spit and sputter due to the early combustion. That would be a good start along with checking the spark plug cap if its the resistor style and make sure its not too high impedance and causing it to blow the spark out. Could delete the resistor too and force it to have stronger spark for as long as the coil can stand it.
Great video too btw!
Hey guys! It would be so cool if you made a matching yard dart 2.0 and also put out some plans for it! That way we could build one of our own! Maybe even have a few fans have their yard darts at mini mayhem for a race !
For real im trying to build one with a lifan 125 i have from a failed project and I can't start because there is like nothing on the build process
I am also planning on building one however making it electric and this is what I was looking for just found these guys yt channel great fun to watch and this is my dream
I had a similar problem with a Bombardier 90 ATV. Turned out it was a bad flywheel. The magnet apparently weakened so we would get intermittent ignition issues, hard starting, poor throttle response, you name it. We changed out else everything first. If you're having to run a tight gap between the ignition pickup and the flywheel to make it start better, (we had to set it at .010 and the spec was around .050, as I recall) that's likely your issue. Many manufacturers use cheap flywheel magnets, and they will cause havoc on many brands and I hear this is a very common issue. I would also re-verify timing is correct and add an offset flywheel-crank woodruff key to advance the timing a bit (maybe 4 degrees +/-) if the ignition pickup is nonadjustable. May really help performance and throttle response once you get the miss resolved. Good luck!
changed the pickup/flywheel and charging coils on my 190 that had same kinda breaking up in the high rpm, changed 6 carbs an 3 cdi before fixing
I think it's awesome that Charles points out when John mentioned the Toby Keith verse 😂😂😂
I think you may have two problems. The first being electrical. Do you have the negative battery cable going directly to the engine block (a tight engine mount bolt is ideal). Also make sure the ign module wires are tight and fully seated as well as the voltage regulator.
You might even replace those if you have spares. If not I can send you several of each type if you need some.
The other thing that seemslike an issue is the valves.
I have seen these have valve seats come loose and run stupid. Since it will usually have good compression intil it get hot and the seat starts banging around.
Good luck.
It's always a good time when these vidjas drop...Thanks Guys!!
Is carb venturi same size or larger than intake valve? this could cause problems.. may also check the pulse pump.. or if none present add one
It’s likely that moto-engines are tuned so tightly that removing the airbox ruins it.
Has to be my favorite kart build so far. Coming back a yr later to rewatch
Hi Guys, Happy New Year.. Do U Know That Those Chinese Ignition Coils Have REV Limiters In Them. If U Really Want it To Go.. Get A Chinese Racing Coil Or Replace It With A Motorbike Coil. Plus The Chinese Wiring Kit ( Wires ) Only Have About 6 Copper Wires Inside Each Wire, Which Doesn't Give Correct Current To Anything If U Ask Me. That's Why They Are Made Cheap, To Save On Copper. I Think It Either Has A Coil Ignition Problem ( Breaking Down ) Or Carburetor Jetting Maybe ? Also Check Your Battery Connections, As The Lights Went out. But I Really Think It's The Ignition Coil
Would love to have one of these! Or at least plans to make one.
Last time I ran into that issue on a quad it was the voltage regulator causing the ignition to be crappy when the lights were on.
Yeah, Honda quad had the same problem. New regulator fixed it. This def an ignition problem, not jetting.
Been riding dirt bikes my entire life just mobbing. And u guys been smashing that thing for a while now. Zong zen or lifan 200cc are great cheap runners but deserve a piston n rings from time just as a major name brand. Just a thought 💭🤔. I love the channel. When she cut out on J she sounded like she blew when she cut off. Every blown top end doesn't have to be seized or stop running💨
I think if you can sort out that large positive camber issue in the front spindles to be more neutral that would help get a better contact patch with the tires it would help tremendously with the front end pushing issue.
I've told them this over and over and over. They won't listen. They've gotten too big to take anyone else's advice. This is why everyone else (rather B welding, Red Beards Garage, Grind Hard Plumbing, etc, etc) has advanced in their builds and fabrication skills, and why CarsandCameras is still building (or rather rebuilding) and Jerry-rigging junk.
Happy new year to you all.All the best
Might be worth checking the compression
nah its not
head bolts do tend to stretch on them but it most likly junk Chinese cdi 4sure
Compression 😂😂🤦♂️
love how ike just rides the crap out of stuff and you can clearly hear its not running right.
Stator plate for sure
That cart looks to be the most fun cart ever👍😄
Sounds and looks like you have a broken or loose wire/wires. I'd also check the valves and coil just to be sure.
Leak down test?
Do it guys! I’ll love to build one!
Sometimes the coils on the chines engines aren’t the best and if a drop of water gets on the boot where the plug connects you’ll get tht problem where spark cuts in and out.
I agree 👍 And the only thing they haven't touch
Love to see that kart again definitely my favorite build
Valve float possibly
Also the carb getting bounced around off road can occasionally cause issues i wonder what a full pull run on smooth asphalt would do
Bingo bingo bingo. Ding ding ding
That thing is absolutely wicked guys
And i think that the valves need to be adjusted because its pooping like crazy maybe im wrong but i think thats what it is..
Im more of a 2 stroke guy
Backfiring through the exhaust upon deceleration is almost always due to the fact that it’s running lean.
Baby powder helps when installing tubes into the tires. Used to use it on it race bikes 👍
My favorite in all of you guys build
Yeah I would really like designs for the yard dart that thing is awesome
I have been watching, and following this channel from one of your first uploads. The video of 9 reasons to buy a cheap go kart, i believe it was called.
And since then i am always happy when a new one comes! So thank you for the great content all these years.
Maybe fuel flow, tank air lock... Thanks for the videos guys- keep up the great work!
this has always been my favorite of your carts and it looks so fun to drive!
dude that gokart looks like so much fun
Omg yes john please make plans for thr yard dart but include, a plane for 2 stroke pit bike motor or 300cc Honda motors, it's so sick
I've probably said this several times in the past, but I love the honesty of this channel.
All the best from Ashton In Makerfield, Wigan, North West England....Merry Chrimbo and a Nappy new year :)
This is the cart i most want to replicate!
Looking forward to seeing the plans online for this build!
The yard kart is a great machine ,I have the same engine on a pit bike I tried all sorts to mitigate the issue one thing I noticed was the valves where not seating properly so re seated them and helped a little ,then I swapped the carb over for a exact same one still had issues ,so I swapped them back and replaced the air filter for one that was a bit more restrictive and it sorted the issue for me so it might help ,happy new year lads and keep on building 👍👍
The Kings of karting back at it for 2023. Thanks boys.
Oh fuck yeah the yard dart is back baby !
Man that donut and back firing was allsome 👍😀
My girlfriend and my drunk neighbor both agree, it's an ignition issue. I think this is the first time they are both right at the same time. That Yard Dart rocks!
There's a handy tool that I use when diagnosing carburetor issues called Color Tune. It allows you to view the color of the flame in the combustion chamber at different throttle openings. It comes with a chart to compare flame color so it's easy to tell which jets need to be changed, in which direction as well as main jet needle clip position. Haven't been able to use it for dialing in the proper slide. Have other ways to do that. The tools aren't manufactured or sold in the U.S., but I think mine took about a week and a few days to arrive. I also bought the adaptor kit so I could use it on engines with different spark plug diameter. Hope this bit of info will be helpful to you.
That 2500rpm issue you're having happened to my Apollo pit bike with a 125cc knock-off Lifan. For me it ended up being moisture in the CDI connectors (from riding through deep puddles after the rain). I dried them and put dielectric grease in them and never had the issue since.
I might buy one if you sell them. It looks awesome
i would Love to see that Thing at Full Power, i think it could be a Beast lol :)
Happy New Year guys. I really like that go-kart. If you did a 2.0 version and Drew up the plans and put those up for sale online I would be interested in a copy. I would not put a Chinese motor on it.
You ABSOLUTELY should sell the design plans, I would LOVE to build one of my own!
These Honda like engines keep amazing me, I have had many of them and they will go for ever if you give them the oil and love they need.
Yin's guys will get it. Keep up the great work
When you guys first made the yard dart I watched the build videos over and over again to make my own plans to build my very own but I never found a good engine I could afford so it never got built. So happy to see this thing back on the track. I think selling plans would be amazing or maybe work with gopowersports and sell a kit for the frame
Happy New Years
This is the kind of cart design I want to see more of being manufactured. The smallest full suspension chassis you can make reasonably.
Happy new year’s to you all. Speaking of building the 2.0 yard dart you guys should build simple but but cool yard carts to sell on your website.
Nice work on the cart
I'm so happy to see the yard dart hoping to see more
Sounds like it's got a bent piston!
The yard dart is one of my favorites! It screams carsandcameras!!! Love you guys can't wait to meet you all in person at one of your meet ups!! Keep cranking out the awesome content we love it! Ps. Charles gang yee yee
Happy new year guys absolutely loving this bill. This thing is totally bad ass What a little Ripper. Awesome video as always. Hope you get her running right so we can watch her rip.👍🏼🤩❤️
Allsome yard dart 🎯 my need another motor 😊👌👍😁 allsome work guys from cruzermans inventions 😁👍🎉🌟
Love your content, keep up the great work and i cant wait to see what you guys have in store for 2023!
i think it had a ground problem when Isaac test-drove it, cant wait to see what the trio devises for us this year
The beast is back!
Happy new year Guys,, Great episode
I've worked on a few Chinese pit bike motors and what I find is the casts aren't exactly accurate or the same but that the gaskets make up for it. Eventually there always seems to be a leak somewhere. If you haven't done compression or leak down tests it's a place to start. I've had leaks in some really strange places. Carbs carb boots exhausts any motor gasket you can think of. Spray anything that burns near the mateing surfaces to see if it revs up and you find a leak. Its fast and easy. I have had cdi problems too. I always start by spraying some start fluid or parts cleaner because its fast and easy then dig into the rest. Good luck. Hope it helps
I would love to buy the plans for the yard dart. Keep up the great work.
Yard dart 2.0, then sell the plans and parts all together! I’m in!
The only thing I can think of is that the holl intier ignition needs to be replaced, which means the ignition coils Cdi all the wiring spark plug, replace the carburettor with a 24 mm Mikuni carburettor maybe that will help it to because I do know my Honda Trail 70 with a 190 Zen zone engine on it runs really well with a 24 mm Mikuni and I did are the whole entire wiring and replace the cdi Killswitch is in everything. Air filter could be of another possibility. the timeing key could be out of timed arm, maybe swap the exhaust with a hive flow exhaust so I do reckon there’s probably a restriction somewhere to but that’s just a few ideas. I threw out there for use for you change the gearing on the back sing a little more because 🎉my Zang zone 190 on my go cart at the moment when I finish doing all those things and I started it runs, smooth as heck
I’ve never seen a machine run so bad and so good at the same time.
I had this same problem several times. You need a non limited cdi. That fixed my issue everytime
Great to see the yard dart out again. Hopefully you can fix the misfiring issue. Looks like with the new wheels the front has a lot of tow in & positive camber. Might be worth adjusting it a bit
The front camber changes with suspension travel due to single a arm but your right it is off a bit at ride hight and not equal definitely needs some tweekin
I would definitely buy these plans!
Can't wait to see it run the right way
Happy new year guys. It really sounds like you have an ignition cut. Seems like a wiring issue or maybe a defect in the wiring harness? Dunno, just doesn't seem like fuel related, especially the way the headlights were flickering when Issac drove it.
Love this cart was one of my favorite ❤ builds.
1:41 I see that razer electric dirtbike in the back, I got two of them rotting in my yard. it'd be interesting to see what you guys can do with it 🤔
It would be absolutely sick if you guys could get sell plans for builds like this.
Then a yard dart racing series could be possible lol
I love this cart. Just watched the other episodes the past few days
I remember when you guys built that it was a beast glad you guys brought it back to life
Love the vids. Have you thought it may be vacuum locking the tank?
Plenty of good suggestions here.....heh, a lot to sift through. My 2 cents would be check the intake manifold for air leaks. The manifold/boot itself may have a crack that's hard to see.
Cheers for the content you lot, get good ideas from you guys.....been watching since Johns parents garage, come a long way since then.
Check the charging voltage at the battery while running and revved up. Good possibility the voltage regulator isn't working correctly. Would also explain the lights going wonky.
Also check for AC voltage ripple. A bad regulator can cause this.
Happy New Year everyone. Just last night I was thinking about the amazing yard dart . Great videos y'all
Happy new year guys! Here’s to a great 2023! 🎉
I think a set of plans would be awesome, full suspension, I will line up for a set !
gettin it up and running proper and vs the crosskart that be good viewin
It's known as plug chop... the only way to check plugs really. WOT then kill the engine as you said. Looks awesome! I need to make me one 😀 good job guys much love from UK
