I am not in the Apple ecosystem. I am a Samsung junkie so I will stick my Amazon Fire Stick. The only reason I prefer a streaming device is to allow me to modify the aspect ratios on movies to fill my TV screen. Watching on my TV built in apps don't allow me to do that. I am an old school person so I live to see a movie fill my screen not a letter box.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

I've tested both in my home as I use both iPhone and Android phones, and I have to say I always gravitate to the Chromecast. Apple interface is better but it doesn't work with my smart home devices, Nest, Ring, etc. I do like Apple's GUI however. But Chromecast offers better recommendations based on ratings.

I go for Chromecast just because it has Apple TV+. It just completed the Chromecast experience with a cheaper price, if it does not offer that then it would suck if you were an apple user. but if you can buy a new android TV with Apple TV+ app (since apple lock it to selected andriod TV devices you can't even work it on sideload) like Sony then just get that.

Im an Android user happy with the Apple TV.
I used Chromecast with Google TV for a few months because i use an Android Phone, I'm not an Apple User. But the UX is quite bad, the home screen is always full of ads of content that i dont watch. The Google TV UI isnt even in 4K and is noticeable, also doesn't have Frame Rate Matching which is crucial to enable Film mode.
I bought an Apple TV 4K and is much much better, i dont even have an iPhone so i cant use a lot of stuff, but for a streaming box is quite enough.
The UI us so smooth, and the TV app is much better organized that Google TV with curated collections.
Also Apple Music is simply superior to Spotify and is a shame that it doesn't exist an app for Android TV, but i doubt that the Chromecast could run it smoothly.
I didnt have to setup the Plex app or Emby, i went completely with Infuse 7 and works much better than the Plex or Emby app for Android TV.

I absolutely love this video for the simple fact that he states right off the bat which device he actually prefers and then goes into all the details about why. He talks about both of them, but he gives that information right up front in the first 15 seconds of the video. I really hate those videos that ask which device do I like? And then they make you watch the whole video or scroll through the whole video to find out which one they actually like. I appreciate this video!

Chromecast is great. I recommend it over Apple TV 4k if budget is a concern. If not - absolutely go for Apple TV 4k. Interesting about the audio dropout you’ve had on the Apple TV. I was having major issues with audio sync on my Apple TV, and no amount of adjusting the AVR worked. I only felt slight lag with my Chromecast with Google TV when the storage was almost full (it only has like 4GB of useable storage), but you can get a USB-C hub and use a USB flash drive as part of the internal storage (You need a power adapter with more watts to power the hub)

    • @greghull3189
      @greghull3189 ปีที่แล้ว

Getting the hub, flash drive and power adapter/cord does drive the $50 CCGTV up to around $120 + or minus, correct? So you end up within the same price point (or close to it) of a new 2022 Apple TV 4K with 64GB. I believe Google needs to update their processor and onboard memory of the CCGTV on the next generation. I had purchased two CCGTV's back in Jan. 22 and after a few weeks the problems with freezing started to rear it's ugly head. I did everything by the book to clear memory by force stopping the apps and clearing cache daily. All the apps we used (which were around 10 apps total), were all your basic streaming apps without side loads. I don't have any freezing or lag issue with the 2022 ATV 4K's we currently use and I'm not having to worry about clearing cache every day.

I'm looking at purchasing either an Apple TV or Chromecast with Google TV for my family (with 2 young kids). It seems one big advantage of the Google TV for families over the Apple TV is the fact that you can set up a seperate profile for kids so they can have all their apps in one profile, and adults can have all their apps in seperate profile. Where Apple TV doesn't seem to have that ability and you have to put passcodes on all apps to restrict kids access to adult content. For me that seems a big oversight, and if true, will prevent me from buying an Apple TV as I'd be having to enter passcodes every time I access apps. Maybe I'm wrong? Any one have experience with this? Thanks

I love that the fire stick and chromecast have a lower price tag, but as mentioned in the video, they both feel laggy and very underpowered. I ended up having a google chromecast on each TV, (one in the media room and one in the living room) and a Apple TV in the main TV and Fire Stick in the Second room. Saying that, I have the chromecast 3rd gen on the tv's, which is why i have the fire stick and apple tv, but the chromecast with google tv is in the Campervan connected to that tv, as it's interface is terrible. Sideloading, lack of support for certain apps, and launcher options means that for me Apple is not a contender, but that's the same as its been forever. That said I really wish Google would make an equally high powered device as the ATV, where right now they're nowhere near being comparable.

I have both and from my experience I liked them both. and I really wanted to use the Apple TV 4K for everything as I used to with Chromecast with Google TV. And then I encounter the Dolby Atmos issue with the Apple TV 4K after upgrading my AV receiver to enable Dolby Atmos. The audio will start stuttering (FYI... it seems like I'm not the only one affected by this with Apple TV 4K) and that really killed the experience of watching any shows with Dolby Atmos. So now Apple TV 4K is just sitting beside the Chromecast with Google TV and I'm enjoying the movies and shows with Dolby Atmos without any audio stuttering issues.

I own apple tv's for years, I was given a 4k version of chromecast with google tv. And I was extremely impressed. The fact it plugs directly into a hdmi port, no need for cables. The interface is well integrated unlike apple. Especially if you use youtube tv. And the price difference is pretty signifcant.. 129 dollars for a 4k apple tv vs 40 - 50 dollars for the chromecast. Both do 4k.. Both have remotes that can control the tv. The google one is a lot simpler, and I argue easier to use with hot integrated it is. So my favorite especially if you have an android phone is the chromecast with google tv.. Its not even close.

Recently I was looking to upgrade from an older Firestick, and tried the $50 Chromecast. Then, I happened to see Walmart has a $20 ONN Android TV device people were raving about, so I picked one up, put them to the test side by side. Hands down, the $20 ONN Android TV device spanked the actual Chromecast, which surprised me. It's an official Google device, so no issues with compatibility like some cheap Android devices. Possibly I got a bad one, but the Chromecast was laggier and kept randomly rebooting itself. I finally just sent it back and am enjoying the ONN device which I was able to add 256GB of storage to and use from everything to light gaming to all the features of the Chromecast- plus customize the look and feel of it exactly as I want. I'm not an Apple person for these type of devices- if I were going to spend ATV money on a streaming devices I'd prefer something like the nVidia shield. But for $20, I can't complain about the ONN Android TV device- I like it so much I got 2 more for our other TV and projector. Oh, and the $20 ONN has a BETTER remote (IMO) than the Chromecast. So $60 to outfit 3 entertainment systems with what works great for my needs- can't complain!

The Apple TV 4K at this price? I would just go Nvidia Shield TV and get the best with wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more options. The Chromecast with Google TV is meant to be an entry into the market option. They just release a new HD version for $30 USD as well. Whilst I respect Apple's excellent hardware yet poor software "innovation" or compatibility they just don't offer enough flexibility and strictly only cater to the general population envelope. Apple taking the gyroscope out was crazy. but overall i have 2 Apple TV 4K and i love them both. I have the 21 version in my living room hooked up to some HomePod minis. And 1 2017 in my bed room. Easily kills my tvs display and if your in the Apple ecosystem its a must have. Best streamer

Wait a second. If you're comparing streaming and price. The Apple TV would really compare with the Nividia Shield with Android TV. Not the Chromecast.
I see why you'd compare the Chromecast with Apple TV, but it's not really an apples to apples comparison IMO.
I'm not saying that Nividia Shield is better or not. I'm just saying that this would be a better device to pin up against the Apple TV than the Chromecast.

Hey Josh, been a while since I've commented on one of your videos. Hope all is well I have the CCGTV, ATV 3rnd Gen 4k, and a Shield TV. The Shield is primarily for Plex since it's the only device that can do bitstream audio for local streaming e.g. lossless ATMOS, etc. The CCGTV has pretty much replace my Roku as my general streaming device, the ATV is for backup, and Apple specific features outside their TV service. One thing I didn't hear you mention in the list of Pros for the CCGTV is the fact services such as TH-cam are google owned, so they typically support the latest features / codecs, and other standards before third party support. The other reason I keep an Apple TV around is for Apple Music (spatial audio support.) One thing you could have also mentioned is the CCGTV remote, it's good for custom setups of multiple devices. E.g. I have the power and input buttons setup to control the TV, the volume buttons control the sound bar. The Apple TV is limited to one device, and one form of control (either CEC, or IR) Since CEC can be a problem I disable it, and rely on IR, both the CCGTV, and Shield remotes make good universal remotes for multiple device control.
Anyway, great to see you're still doing videos. Have a great day!

I should have mentioned our audio problems were testing with an AV receiver out to a 5.1 surround sound system. Not sure if the bug shows up with a sound bar or HDMI direct to a TV.

Apple tv 4k 2021 is not buttery smooth, I use it on my primary tv and it sometimes gets pretty laggy.
Also when I turn it off while streaming some app, next time I turn it on it just freezes and I need to restart it. And some apps lack the latest updates my TV has, such as Spotify. It is a good tv box but it is not perfect as every reviewer says. I'd say it is on the same level as the new chromecast which I use on my other tv.

My experience is exactly the opposite, AppleTV is laggish to start and the browsing experience when I start some apps it's just frustrating. Not to speak of the touch remote, which is just a gimmick useless way to trade design for functionality.
Recently it also started to complain about the AppleID which needs to be verified and guess what? You can do it only via another apple device and it has to be not older than 5 years.
I've one just because it has been given to me by my Internet provider, I would never ever buy one myself.

but then you can only really play games from Apple Arcade which sucks. also speaking of the storage too. 64gb is literally not enough. I've downloaded a lot of games on my Apple TV and it ate the whole storage space immediately.

I dont understand how this is even a comparison when the price points are so far appart. Also what does he mean by picture quality being better? They both output 4k, Apple TV has HDMI 2.1 but that only allows 120hz which doesn’t matter for video.

What's held us back from an Apple Tv because we don't chain ourselves to Apple EcoSystem is the fact that you only benefit from everything else only if you already have IPhones and Ipads...etc.

I've used both, but I give the edge to Apple TV 4K. Yes, it's more expensive, but the Apple TV 4K is cleaner and speedier to use, it doesn't have ads, it's faster to switch apps, and in-app navigation is simple and unified (for the most part). However, at their core, they both do the same thing, they stream Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, and other services on a big TV. You can't go wrong either way. The differences are small.

From what I understand, the Chromecast here will show you recommendations among things you don't currently have. Services, or "buy this" movies/series, that you don't subscribe to. And I understand that this is something that you can't turn off. Is this true?
For the Apple TV, does it do the same thing?
I'm planning on getting a media device such as these for home use and I have kids. I want the device to only show and recommend things that we have access to, so it's just a click away to start watching and no "Ohhh I wanna watch... no, can't do that. Oh! No." all the time all over the place.

Apple TV has 4GB of Ram...and Chromecast has only 2GB of Ram so that's the difference in speed lag...So unless Google makes a device that has a 4GB RAM it's always gonna be behind Apple TV.
