I'm glad it's a bit better, but $100 USD doesn't justify the embarrassing specs. The Apple TV offers double the storage, and the A15 chip for $129. The A15 chips ensures an always smooth experience because it is like 12 times faster than the MT8696, the processor in the Google TV Streamer. I think this product shouldn't cost more than $50.
Apple products are never in my list of products for consideration for anything nowadays. I used to like iPods but now since they're gone I have no desire for Apple. I do agree it's a bit too much price wise
The chromecast could be bought for as little as $30 in the HD version, which was such a good price. People said it was a bit laggy but it worked really well in my experience. A $100 product isn't even in the same category. It would make sense if they released this as a competitor to the Nvidia Shield while still keeping the chromecast (which is more of a competitor to the Fire Stick, and in my opinion a better product than it). They screwed it up in both ways, and I think no one is going to buy it. Google makes great products, but sometimes they just lack the vision of the market.
Good video, well presented. I like that you don’t have the weird air hostess / supermarket customer voice synthetic cadence that so many do on YT. Just a natural authentic delivery.
The Google TV Streamer is also a smart home hub with support for Matter and Google Home, with a Thread router built in and the Google Home Panel built in. Apple's box has Thread too, but only in the most expensive 128GB model. The Google TV Streamer has Ethernet on the back; only the more expensive Apple TV model offers this. The Google TV Streamer has Google's Gemini AI assistant to provide summaries, reviews and synopses of shows. Apple TV 4K has the current (non-AI) version of Siri; there's no official date for when the smart Apple Intelligence-powered version of Siri, as seen in iOS 18, will arrive on tvOS - and if it does, whether it will work on existing models.Google offers AI-generated, one-of-a-kind screensavers that you can create using voice commands. Google tv offer storage expansion and root APK app download, google tv works better with android ecosystem and google eco system, black Friday discount it's a good time to pick one
there is very narrow profit margin for this device. it's only a means to get people to use their services. a more expensive hardware is not in the plan i'm afraid
If Google put in just a slightest bit of effort into this thing. It would have been easy to use the same chip they use to power their Pixel phones; same like Apple and their phones. Fine tune their software and WiFi 6 at least, USB port, and playback, more internal storage and RAM. This could have been a banger.
I LOVE the GTV streamer. I had the Chromecast I bought in 2017 and really needed a refresh (it was getting buggy, laggy, and disconnecting) - I am glad I waited for this unit. Even though it's more expensive, for me it's worth it. Very fast, and has all the features I want. Easy to swap apps, can turn my tv into a painting anytime I wish, and voice search is really cool! My only complaint was that some default settings needed to be changed and I couldn't find them (at first I didn't realise there were settings for these things). Eg: TV auto shuts off when displaying the screensavers. What's the point in that? I wish it still could power iteself from the TV USB port.....but I can understand how that might not have the juice anymore. And I need an HDMI cable, which lucky I had.
I was actually looking forward to this but when the specs came out, i opted for the 128gb Apple 4K TV, its the only apple product i own apart from my work phone, i would possibly have purchased the google TV streamer if it had been a bit cheaper but i don't think the specs warrant the price (especially in the UK where it is currently the equivelant of $129 (£99), whereas the $99 that it sells for in the US is currently £75, this is why we call it rip off Britain). I gave my chromecast to my daughter and honestly do not regret buying the apple 4k TV, Its a shame as the Google streamer could have been so much better
I’ve watched a few bit of videos from people and no one’s talking about how it has the Bluetooth to connect to speakers. Does that mean it can connect to your Google speakers? If so, can I create a type of surround sound when watching TV?
The reason for better wifi is because it's no longer behind the TV. Most TV contains a big metal plate as part of construction and this have a big impact on wifi. This a big reason for them to switch to a box form factor. If you want you can just use some nano tape and a short HDMI cable and place it behind the TV - but then your wifi will be about as impacted as before.
Got mine. Launcher is spam infested. Audio over hdmi is ALWAYS 5.1 with empty/silent channels when listening to 2.0 content, so surround processing never kicks in for 2.0 content. Back to the shield, I guess.
Excellent review, mate! My 2019 Nvidia Shield still does everything I want from a streaming device. When it doesn't, I'll most likely go with Apple TV.
How is the casting experience? The current Chromecast 4k cast photos and videos at a very low resolution. 720p to be exact. It also casts your photos and videos without their meta data, like HDR. If you own a Samsung TV and a Samsung phone, try and use the Smart View option to cast your photos and videos and you'll see a huge difference.

Hoping to use GeForce Now on this thing the Bluetooth connection on my ShieldTV is abysmal. Would love to have earbuds and a controller paired without dropouts.
Can it output 120fps 4k through the HDMI 2.1? I know the basic Android TV interface doesn't allow that, but I was wondering if to ou could hit 4k 120fps while gaming streaming (like GeForce Now, Gamepass and more specifically Moonlight)

We'll have to wait another 5 years for another Google TV steamer and it probably still won't rival the Shield.
That's why they wanted to cancel the chromecast, I'll wait for it to be out for a while seeing how Google have made a hobby of cancelling products
Im just confused what this product is for, like why not just use a smart tv, whats the advantage?
Hoping to use GeForce Now on this thing the Bluetooth connection on my ShieldTV is abysmal. Would love to have earbuds and a controller paired without dropouts.
So will there be a part 2 where you cover how this thing handles the actual TV bit? What you showed here had 0 to do with it being a "TV" device.
No BBC iPlayer in the UK. Looks like Google haven't submitted it for certification or BBC haven't certified it.
i'l keep my Nvidia Shield pro ,this Google tv Streamer is just not worth switching🤐
Does it support HDMI passthrough for lossless audio (Dolby TrueHD, etc) like the nvidia shield?
Yes
@@TELEVISIONARCHIVESthat’s great. how do you know?
Nicely done.
Can you stream AV1 and Dolby Vision to it?
They don’t put effort into anything. Look at the pixel 9, the tensor chip is equivalent to a 5 generation ago Qualcomm chip. Kind of sad
Does anyone know if this streamer outputs natively at 1440p?
I am having audio problems with the new Google Streamer and Tier 1 support was useless.
Did this drop a day early??
🤗😍 Nice! I love that the Google TV Streamer supports Matter smart home devices and AI
Only way I'll ever buy another one of these is if they put a web browser in it that works good
Can it output 120fps 4k through the HDMI 2.1? I know the basic Android TV interface doesn't allow that, but I was wondering if to ou could hit 4k 120fps while gaming streaming (like GeForce Now, Gamepass and more specifically Moonlight)
Did you ever find this out?
@@AmazingOrange87 on Android authoritie's video he replied saying that it can only output 4k 60fps. However, I'll dig it on Reddit to check if someone really tested this specific case
Because what is the point of having an HDMI 2.1?
Does it really support Apple TV as well? I have in the past bought a lot of movies through Apple TV, and if I cannot have these, it would be a dealbreaker 😢
The Apple TV app is available for Google TV and works on a chromecast if you mean that.
Looking good
Welp, just gonna have to wait for it to go on sale.
Pretty sure the internals are the greatest hardware change, not the remote.
