Why Confidence is More Attractive Than Beauty

  • Fun fact: Being conventionally attractive doesn’t automatically make people feel attracted to you. In fact, trying to be more conventionally attractive can actually make people feel less attracted to you. Why? Because attraction often comes down to energy, personality, connection, and how it feels to be around you. (Or, as I put it in this video for shorthand: “confidence.”)

Confidence is by far the most attractive thing in women, atleast in my opinion. They often come off more genuine, basically everything you said :)

I agree it’s so wild how’s things can shift every 5 years it seems to the “it girl” look , yet there is always someone out there for everyone’s tastes that is what I always think! :)

This. Completely agree and I'm a living testament to this. Older Male, fit, dresses well, below average looks but have confidence in walking, moving the body, and movement of eyes. Get looks minimum of 5x a day from teenagers to women as I take the Public Transit. Would say eye gazing is the most important skill and key to confidence.

01:40 That is wrong. There is objective beauty in the form of healthiness.
But first: You are absolutely right in saying beauty trends are made up by our culture and are basically interchangeable and thus irrelevant. These trends, their rate of appearance and their oppressive advertisment messaging got out of hand in the last two to three decades. Millions of women have their self-esteem and their body image ruined by this. In my view it is another symptom of neoliberal capitalism tearing our society apart.
Still, healthy-looking is hard wired into our brains as "beautiful". The base purpose of attraction in the biological sense is still creating offspring and to do that, being healthy is paramount. First for providing care to the offspring but also for giving them the best genetic suite to face the challenges of life.
We humans still run on much the same psychological set-up we had when we became a species roughly 60.000 years ago so as antiquated as it may seem, this selection mechanism is still a thing.
As one can guess "healthy" can mean a vast range of attributes, so what style someone chooses or likes is highly subjective.

While there may be *some* universal correlation between health and beauty, the supposed "appearance" of health changes depending on the culture and era, and is informed by our beliefs and biases. For example, being fat used to be a signal of health (and therefore beauty) because it suggested the person had enough money and resources to eat well. Nowadays we have a cultural view of fat people as UNhealthy (and therefore unattractive), because we associate extreme thinness or leanness with those same money and resources... and we hold that as healthy and attractive EVEN WHEN the person's thinness/leanness comes from extremely UNhealthy factors like eating disorders, illness, stress, etc. There's actually very little we can point to that has *always* been considered attractive across all cultures and eras.

I'm non-binary, actually! But yes, I fully acknowledge that I do have a lot of body privilege, because I genetically fit a lot of conventional beauty and body ideals. Are you making this comment to dismiss or invalidate the points in the video?

confedence is way better than looks the weirder... the better! the real supermodels and studs are deformed people with a positive additude

@@JessiKneeland no abosolutely not. what makes you happy is more important than what other people think... you can have a knockout appearence, but if you have a negative additude ,then that negativity will drive others away regardless of how you look
