"The Image of Deception" by Charlotte Anne Hamilton has the trope of 'the girlfriend and the secret girlfriend leave the cheating boyfriend and get together' done well.
Me: So....did you fall in love with me because I'm 'not like other girls'? My husband: ??? Me: You know NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS. My husband: Babe, you're weird and the K-Pop thing was unexpected, but if you weren't like other girls, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be together. Yeah, I have yet to meet a man who actually knows what the fuck that means. For that matter, neither do any of the women I associate with.
Huh. I've seen people commenting on how immature the women are who say this. But, if you're a guy thinking this about women, isn't that incredibly judgemental? He's cared so much about every woman he's ever met and compared them all to each other? Doesn't quite fit 😂 makes more sense when you realize the man was likely written by a woman 😂
So some people are gender non-conforming and maybe they're lgbt+ or maybe they're neurodivergent and maybe they're just introverted. It seems to just be a way to imply that at some point that person was an outsider
BTW, I did know someone who got knocked up by this guy (who she did know), didn't tell him, and then finally told him five years later. They're now happily married with another kid on the way. I guess it does happen but also um what?
i’ve noticed a trope in romance YA novels is that there’s typically a lot of trauma pörn like you said, also people seem to trauma bond, and that becomes the basis of their relationship. i wish there was more healing and behavioural changes and open communication and dialogue about moving on, not like depending on the other person to help heal you. trauma bonding is so complex. this was a fantastic video! thank you so much for taking the time to read all these and make this video for your audience. this is the first video of yours i’ve found, and i’m quite impressed!

I have a great aunt who got back together with her first love 50 years later after they were both widowed, and their kids had all left home. I'm pretty sure they weren't just waiting for each other that whole time or anything. But it was still back together after a (really REALLY) long seperation. Plus they coincidentally each called their two kids the same names.
While I hate cheating, I actually loved Maybe Someday. Why? The amount of straight up communication between the two leads was refreshing. And I appreciate that they didn’t fully cheat, though emotional cheating still sucks. Maggie deserved so much better.
I’ve learned when reading I don’t like romance just for the sake of romance. The only way I like it is if there’s a really good reason and backstory and the characters coming together and falling in love really makes sense. Priory of the Orange Tree is a good example of this. I loved it, a solid reason for the main romance to happen, the people falling in love were actually compatible and it was well supported with a good story overall

I read so many of the books listed here a while ago and I was definitely bothered by many of them, to the point I had reader's block for a bit. (Mighty Storm definitely made me recoil on the mention. It was so bad. *shudder*)
Thank you for taking the time to review these. I really respect and loved hearing your thoughts.
The sass in this video was through the roof and I'm here for it!
Fun fact, I went to high school with a girl who got pregnant when she lost her virginity lol
i bet that scarred her for life lol
Omg poor girl
but did she wait for the father of her baby for five years and immediately fall in love with him after being reunited???
There's a huge indi romance scene.
Try reading anything by Penny Reid. She writes intelligent, interesting, and flawed! characters!
This video is the best THANK YOU for this precious gift
THANK YOU.
FOR BEING.
A GOOD REPRESENTATION.
FOR BIPOLAR PEOPLE.
*APPLAUSE*
I loved it, a solid reason for the main romance to happen, the people falling in love were actually compatible and it was well supported with a good story overall
i remember reading edenbrooke and blackmoore back to back during the winter of 2015 and boy did they leave me hot and flustered and swoony and happy and frustrated-basically all emotions under the sun, despite of the lack of sex in either of the books 🥰
i usually don’t sit through an entire half hour just to listen to someone rant review about disturbing books but can i just say that you are
seriously
so
entertaining
and just earned a new fan?
Honestly so damn impressed. Well done love. Also loved the format of this even though I normally love your vlogs I was really in the mood for this one
This was the most entertaining video ever!!! I have a feeling I’m going to rewatch this a million times over because dang the one liners in here were absolutely superb 👌🏼🤣
Great video idea! It's a shame that so many of them were disappointing. I'm really loving all your creative content lately
3 minutes in, and I already love the atmosphere on this channel😭🔥👏
Lmao the “ew David” got me. Love waking up and watching your vids while enjoying my coffee!!
I've just found your channel and I'm binging and taking notes of your recommendations.
Not that I'm taking any here but God you're so funny I cannot leave this video!!!!

Listening on my headphones and busted up laughing at the “ew David”
My husband thought I was losing my mind
I feel you! I really didn’t like Ten Tiny Breaths. I was actually a little hesitant to read The Simple Wild because i hadn’t liked that KA Tucker book. But thank god I did, the simple wild is so much better.
Can I say 'I am not like the other girl' is the most misogynistic statement in the entire world.
Saying you're not like the other girls is like putting female in box when every woman is different and unique. And you wanna say I'm better than them.
I'm so excited for this readathon. I just ordered my sweatshirt.
I definitely agree with your assessment of Tangled. I remember reading it and being confused that the author would write such misogynistic language and behaviors for her male protagonist. I did read the sequel Twisted (I must be a glutton for punishment) and it doesn't get better. The ending was heavy eye-rolling, and apparently the series continues but I was like DONE!
I don’t know how you suffered through these books, but I’m grateful for it because this was a great video!
I laughed so hard. I enjoyed the snarky commentary. I do hope you read something you enjoy soon.
hahah thank you
I enjoyed the hell out of this! I'm working through the BDB series now and am about to start #6, so I support the Dark Lover recommendation 100%!
why does everyone one of these consist of the main character's family dying or them or them escaping some past and moving across the world?
This is the quality that I LIVE for! You are absolutely hilarious Chan 😂
If your next video isn't rewriting buzzfeeds list ima be disappointed. We need a "what should have been on buzzfeeds hot and bothered list" pronto 👏👏
You’re literally so hilarious. I live for your rants
