I don’t know why but romance in a normal setting is meh - however, romance in a FANTASY setting just really does it for me

      ME TOO!
And not many people really talk about it which really frustrates me. I struggle when I’m trying to find books like that.
On top of that you always find these fantasy couple shippers but then you go to the book and you barely find the romance they’re so hardcore about. Sometimes they even ship non existent couples and couple people up and ship them when they’re actually enemies. Like whaaat?!
Fantasy romance is my jam 😍

I absolutely loved Radiance and fell in love with Draven's writing style. The protagonists care for and respect each other, do not manipulate each other, are honest FROM JUMP with each other...It's sad that these things are not common in fantasy romance. I understand that the opposite creates opportunities for drama and conflict and can make for interesting reads. However, Radiance is an example that healthy relationships are engaging as well.

Aww, yay. I am glad you enjoyed "Radiance". I was really pleasantly surprised by it and its sequel. I'm also pretty jazzed because there's a third book (more a next in the series, vs. "Radiance" & "Eidolon"'s duology) coming out in September. Draven is really one of my favorite authors of the last few years. I read "Entreat Me" because Lauren at A Novel Lush recommended the lead character as a book a Gryffindor might like last April, and have burned through her back catalog over the course of the last year.
I'd actually really recommend "Entreat Me" if you enjoy "Eidolon". It has a similar vibe of practicality inspiring a relationship with friendship and romance growing out of that. Also, it's a Beauty & The Beast retelling, except with a whole lot of pointed commentary about the problematic stuff inherent in the story, along with a healthy dose of people are working with the information and resources they have available. That said, "Entreat Me" takes more time to get where it's going. I really enjoyed it, but the pacing is different from "Radiance" and "Eidolon", so just an fyi.
    Take care!

    @amandaalbright6921 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I also predicted everything single thing in From Blood and Ash, but still really enjoyed it.
Radiance’s plot sounds extremely similar to No Man Can Tame. It’s a marriage of convenience. She switches places with her sister. She is human and he is an elf. From the beginning they aren’t attracted to each other, but have a mutual respect. Their relationship builds from friendship to lovers. It was refreshing. I’d never read a book where the drama stays outside of their relationship.

You should try A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by JLA! I had almost the exact same thoughts as you about From Blood and Ash, but the sequel blew me out of the water. Definitely very sexy and entertaining. She took the plot in a very different direction than where I thought she would. I'm hoping she pushes Poppy down an antihero path in the future books, that would be interesting.

Especially if you like the ACOTAR series. The main male character gives off MAJOR Rhysand vibes. Plus the entire series, a trilogy and a novella, is all on kindle unlimited.

oohh I see Radiance!! I love love love love that book!! I don't think I ever love a book this much!! Ildiko and Brishen was sooooo perfect😭💜 Though I started the second book, I'm afraid to continue it because there might be a scene where their relationship will be ruin😢 I don't have anything bad to say to it either, though the last chapters surprised me and broke my heart, it was still sooo good. I'm reading Phoenix Unbound now which I think will be my favorite too when I finished, but Radiance is still the best.

I’ve been on a roll with similar books lately. My favorites are Crush/ Crave (two more books in the series but haven’t been released) by Tracey wolf. Blessed and captured also have another book in the trio that’s not released yet by Brandi elledge. If you like reverse harem half blood academy series of 5 by meg xuemei was good. The naughty scenes get a little repetitive I think but overall I liked them.

I've felt very similar about FBaA, maybe disliked it more because I had way higher hopes but boy ...
I knew that Hawke and budget Darkling/Rhysand mash up bro were the same person the second their names were dropped and that's kinda when I began to question how good this book was gonna be 🙃 lol
It went one like that with every. single. plot twist, just like you said and became so much worse because Poppy is so goddamn stupid throughout it all. That whole plot is thinner than skim milk and yet our girl makes all the wrong guesses. Why? We're stuck in her head, got the same information. Either mislead me alongside her or make her less dumb, JLA.
I really wanted to love that book and I did enjoy a couple chapters maybe, but you can tell the author has no idea how to write slightly more advanced fantasy and that she's been completely outside her element with this one. /endrant

As someone who read more than 10 books by Armentrout I can say that her books are completely predictable. Like every single series had a resurrection. Guys fall into two categories: the good guy and the anti hero guy. Aidan and Zayne are in the first group, Seth and Roth are in the second group. The main character never has parents (the parent usually gets killed off later if they are there) or a strong female best friend that isn't killed. I used to love her books but reading them now is not fun anymore.

Just need to say as well if you enjoyed Radiance you need to try reading Heart of Fae by Emma Hamm, such a beautifully written love story with Irish mythology and beauty and the beast inspired but it's actually very unexpected don't want to give away too much but he does not change with one kiss lol so it's not predictable

Have you read Amanda Bouchet? Her books are trad published fantasy/sci fi romance! Heavy on the romance I would say. You might enjoy (though I haven’t read them myself, just a rec ☺️)

Yeah Of Blood and Ash was so hyped that it fell very flat for me. Her and Hunt met way too early for me to like them and the plot was way too complicated, yet somehow predicatble. The potential was there but it didn't work for me :/
