  • Hello; Im john teitloff and I single handedly researched, photographed, and slogged through the jungles of Port Antonio Jamaica like Indiana Jones to discover, find the history, recover the old photos, and finally used my old camera to photograph the exact spots that the 100 year old pictures were taken. Then I used Windows movie maker to make this incredible music video. This is the result of over 20 years of research and many trips to Port Antonio JA to assemble this. There is not another one like it in this entire world. I hope you enjoy it, John Teitloff

So interesting. I played there, as a child in the 60s (my dad was a high school teacher in PA for three years).

John: Photo at 3:40 shows esplanade up to a roman columned shade in the tropic sun. In fact, it is at the top of the hill where the water tank still is, on the Folly Reserve where the Williams family lives. The palms on either side are the Royal Palms which can now be seen from anywhere near East Harbour. See "Follies The International Magazine" Spring 2021

Von teitloff here. the story of folly house has all the ingredients for a incredible documentary. did you know that there is a huge 10' by 10' by 5' deep hot tub and two adjoining rooms in the lower part of the mansion that was used for sex games? and this was 1914! the true story of folly house has a sordid tale of vast riches, incest, betrayal and wild excess, and I am the only one that knows the true story after 20 years of research.

Thanks for your hard work. Folly has fascinated me for years and I have even considered doing a novel to let the story come alive. This is great stuff you have accumulated. How can one access this info, or do we need to wait for the documentary you produce?

It's so sad when grand old homes are left to rot & decay .

True in some sense, but understanding that they were build on the spoils of slavery, it's not surprising that once these slave owners and their decendents left, former slaves would be loathed to maintain them. I think that in some sense, leaving them to rot and decay is a response to the sheer evil and destruction their very existence reeked on the lives of the generations of slaves, without whom these "Great Houses", as they are referred to in Jamaica, would not exist.
As someone who appreciates Colonial West Indian architecture in and of itself, however, it is sad.

Very informative pictorial on the Folly Great House, or more rightly, Folly Mansion. This place could be an excellent visitor attraction The site would need to be cleaned up including the preservation, If not full restoration, of the building. The attached beach could also be incorporated into the package. This should be done on condition that it would be open to Jamaicans and visitors alike. This site has great potential for development and income earning.Over to you Portlander, Mr M Michael Lee-Chin or some other person with a vision.

this is so incredible. I have seen it myself and all the estate is still there, the house, the stables, the old dock and even the servants quarters and just uphill, the huge swimming pool sized water tank for fresh water. what a cool documentary this would make, but most of it is forgotten, buried in the jungle. I could not find anyone still living in the area who knew much about it and the old fables wre not true. Read " the Tiffany fortune" to learn more. I am an authority on this subject and know pretty well all there is to know including some never before known facts that link it to Errol fly and the titchfield hotel. my # is 360 217 7985 or 425 508 5715

So is there any truth to the story that it fell into ruins because sea water was used in the mix to build it? It basically deteriorated/disintegrated over time and could not be saved. The owners were thus dejected and abandoned it. That's the story I have heard over the years. Would love to know.

@@kokocaballero8440 No. Alfred Mitchell died at age 80, Annie Tiffany Mitchell moved back to New England and estate was sold. Eventual owners stopped paying taxes and government seized it. It is in ruins because of neglect and vandalism. Concrete still sound.

I was reading a press release on the tiffany and co. website itself that only mentioned one of the sons as heirs to the business and Ican't seem to find any info on her
