    I genuinely miss the era where the same game was very different depending on the platform. It’s not necessarily a ‘better or worse’ situation either, sometimes they’re both great but very different.

    1. Mega Drive version has story cutscenes and dialog. The Super Famicom version throws you into the action.
    2. Also judging the options screen. The Mega Drive version seems to give you 7 lives compared to 5 in the Super Famicom version.
    3. The Mega Driver version also moves faster.
    4. Also the Super Famicom version seems to lock you in a screen while Mega Driver version you can move back and forth. Noticeable when you did your special jump kick attack.
    5. The elevator and the fights on the semi truck trailers are missing from the Super Famicom version.
    6. The Panda bear riding the train has no audible tell when arriving on the Mega Drive version.
    This video is long so there is probably a lot more Gameplay elements to compare.

      I feel its hard to do a apples to apples comparison when one version comes out a year after the other. A year back then (and now) is huge. It's like comparing Street Fighter 2 to Street Fighter 2 Turbo when it comes to differences.

      Well it depends, two players option is a big advantage tbh. But I wouldn't say having the game one year before the other is an instant advantage, it was a game made with snes in mind, and then kinda ported to mega drive, md has the processing power to run this for two players and run even better than the snes in that regard, while the snes should have better graphics overall. I was truly surprised at genesis drawings considering the handicap the console has in the gpu color palette department, the splashes look really good. It's a strange comparison, bc it should be the other way around, genesis 2 having players + more enemies at screen vs snes better overall graphics + drawings and cutscenes if you just take hardware capabilities in mind. That's the rule of thumb on snes vs md it's mainly a battle of having a faster cpu vs a more modern gpu

      @@HellTantrumbullI have made some color mod for the MD game and yeah, it was clearly rushed. Each sailor use a full 15 color palette like in snes version with some unused color on it.
      There is no color optimisation and it's why the 2 player mode was removed (with no color optimisation, the game would have need an extra palette to be 2 players) the game also lack some interesting boss and interactive level from the snes version. But the snes version is way slower have worse hit detection, worse gameplayMD version have more move), no shinettou boss, no story mode.
      The best game would be the MD and Snes version combined in only one game

    Although it sucks that it has no two player mode, the Genesis version is better in terms of control and audio clarity (although both have great music), and the tonality is closer to the original anime, even though the story of it, whilst possibly fitting between episodes 48 -50. The SNES version is decent and looks better graphically but feels somewhat clunkier; an example of how better graphics doesn't mean a better game. The soundtrack, level design and gameplay is lightyears better on the Genny. If it had two player mode? It would win this battle hands down. As is, it's still the better game though. The animation is so much smoother and the presentation is solid with the dialogue before the boss battles. That soundtrack on the Genny is nothing short of amazing though, some of the best on the system. Especially for stage 2-2 where you go into that sweets themed funhouse. On the SNES it sounded like really bad circus music, the Genny version actually gives you a proper theme to kick ass to. Yup, in spite of missing two player mode? The Genny version is the one to own.

    • @jsr734
      @jsr734 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The soundtrack is good in both versions but regarding the stage 2-2 music, i think the Megadrive version tries to sound more cheerful as the prior section had a more calm feeling. On the Super Famicom version the theme sounds like "here comes the evil circus clowns" to give a different feeling to the prior cheerful fun park section music.
      If you are a fan of Sailor Moon and or just enjoy the beatem up genre i would recomend playing both, as they are different enough. And if i could, i would love to own both cartridges.

    • @DesertRainReads
      @DesertRainReads 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jsr734I wouldn't say the candy house theme is cheerful per se, but it is more upbeat and a proper song to actually kick some ass to as well. The SNES version has an okay soundtrack but having played and beat both games thanks to emulation?
      I can safely say the Genny version is still the better game. Better graphics with way smoother animation, more detailed sprites, a killer soundtrack that holds up to some of the best the Genny has to offer.
      Whomever composed the Genny soundtrack did a fabulous job of it. I could seriously jam to that stuff all day. I have to wonder if they used the same engine from Streets of Rage 2 to pull it off.
      This coming from someone who appreciates both systems for what they brought to the table here. I'm no fanboy to either one and I can recognize when a version of a game is better on one system over another.
      In this case, the Genny version is a clear runaway on most fronts. Only thing it's missing is two player mode. Other than that, it's the way to go.

    Interesting that the stages start similar and got completely different in the middle. If SNES is the only with 2 player option then it's the winner, if not, that's close to a draw, but SNES game seems harder. Genesis have 2 more areas in the beggining of stages, but they don't change much the game overall. Quality of level design sometimes is better in one, sometimes in the other.

    megadrive/genesis sailor moon: 2MB(16mbit)
    snes/sfc sailor moon: 1.5MB(12mbit).
    Because of the greater number of displayable colors on snes, you'll always need a larger cartridge on snes to get the same content as on megadrive.
    because the color information takes up more space on the cartridge.
    This explains why, for the same size, there are often more things (sprites, stages...) on the 16bit sega.
    here, the roms aren't even the same size, they're smaller - the match was lost before it started.

However, after spending time with both, there's actually a lot that the Genesis version does better too, and not just story. The controls, especially for special attack are one example.
