      For simpler version i did with just piece of pipe and ballpin hammer slaming with 1kg hammer. And once tried in good blacksmithing vise i recovered from scrap both works. Not so sophisticated and effects are bit worse than presented here but if it works it works :)

    Diff, if you make a short piece of tubing the size of the hole and weld tabs that center it in the larger pipe you can pull it up and set hole over it and then drop the inside tube down inside before putting ball on it. Just a dumb thought all the way from Alaska. Cheers

    A great mind, fabulous simple fabrication and looks perfect.

    I am with you DOV, because if someone ask it you lost your mind, I hope you never find it!

    You can put a shorter piece of pipe (it can have thicker sides. A piece of PVC pipe would work) inside the dimple pipe. With the shorter thicker walled pipe inside you can use it as the guide to center the hole to dimple it. Easy peezy. ♥️🇺🇸🍻

    WOW..I wasn't expecting that. I think that is as simple as it can get. Truly innovative. Now have to go look for some steel balls, my brass ones just not gonna do the trick...lol. Thank you again for sharing Div. By the way seats look "awesome". You could drill multiple holes on the seat frame say 20/25mm (3/4" or 1" ) apart, 2 or three of them, so that you have a little ajustability in the forward/backward direction.

    • @ratrodsafrica
      @ratrodsafrica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks my friend! You know me, I like as simple as possible!😅 Been learning over the years that simple, yet effective engineering is the hardest. You will find a variety of different size steel balls at a place like Steel and Pipe. Regarding seat adjustability, yes a series of holes could work. That's the simplest!😂

    Drill a hole through the center of the ball and the center of your lower cup. Use a pin to center the ball in the cup. The ball then will be the centering guide

    • @ratrodsafrica
      @ratrodsafrica  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clever thinking! But one would have to increase material thickness of the flat bar below the cup to ensure no sideways movement of the pin. Might try that sometime. Although the basic method does work well enough

  • @TrashPandaGarageYT
    @TrashPandaGarageYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Amazon has steel balls available for cheap if you want larger you can also use the ball off a trailer hitch which are often cheap at any junk yard

    • @ratrodsafrica

    One of the benefits of your dimple die system over commercial dimple dies is that you can space the holes much closer together. After foolishly spending the money for an expensive commercial system I discovered this when I was working with a test piece. Still, I guess I don’t regret spending the money. We shall see in the future.

    Like everything that you do, this is simple and inexpensive, and works so well. Thx. How about attaching the ball to a strip of metal welded to the main form, to keep the ball centred over the hole- kind of like a tweezers?

    Just an idea but if the ball and the lower part were hinged when th ball was put in the hole from the top the bottom part would automatically be centered....

    That dimple set is genius man. What kind of bead roller is that? I like that style with the wheel. Love the content 👌 Hello from New York!

      Hello New York!😀 Its just one of those Chinese bead roller like you can get from Harbor Freight. I added the wheel, works better than the stupid handle.

      No, too much flex I think. Its made from some kind of rubber? Gotta find a steel ball somewhere. Bought mine from a steel supply store.
