    When he held that 30-06 against the 50 cal bullet, I thought it was a .223. Dam that 50cal is a big ass round.

    If you have never had the pleasure of shooting the Barrett, it is like holding a quarter stick of dynamite arms length in front of you. Feels just like it sounds. Amazing.

    We use the M240 in the British Army, although a slight variant named the GPMG, I absolutely love it. Nothing in an infantry platoon spits hate down range better

    • @NovaScotiaNewfie
      @NovaScotiaNewfie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SlopedOtter once the Mark 48 came out (7.62 NATO version of the M249) for USSOCOM I thought for patrolling in the mountains of Afghanistan or built up areas aka cities where you are not shooting at longer ranges like on an open battlefield that the smaller size and weight would be effective. But due to a shorter barrel I wonder that effect when being in shot in comparison to the GPMG?
      Does the UK still use the wooden stocks like we do in Canada?

    16:50 Talking about the battles of Monte Cassino and *Stalingrad* in the same sentence (plus shortly before, speaking about a weapon's impact on the D-Day landings before seemingly as a side note mentioning the eastern front) kind of seems to me as an extremely distorted view on the historical importance of some battles the western allies fought in relation to German/Soviet battles. 90 % of German casualties were incurred in the east, the huge scales of men and material there dwarf anything happening in the west. People from the US as well as the UK often underestimate what monumental battles were fought by the Soviets. Compared to Stalingrad, Monte-Cassino is a minor skirmish not even worth mentioning in the slightest. (not taking away from the sacrifices and courage of the individual US or UK soldier - I have the greatest respect for all who took up arms. But on a macroscopic level, come on....)

      And it isn't really a surprise since the cold war came right after, which was the context which the narrative for those wars were being constructed under.
      Similarly, it is not really known that the Emporer of Japan didn't surrender because of the two nukes dropped, but because he was terrified of the red army at his doorstep which he knew would execute him instantly, so he surrendered to the US. If the red army was not at his doorstep he would according to the generals, and the emperor's writing not have surrendered then.
      To the victors/first to the flag go the spoils, also there is not as clean a narrative in the way the red army was used by the Stalin, including the infamous conscription fodder units, of people Stalin and his ideology, or just his political enemies were considered undesirables. And order NO. 227. Millions of them were sent to die as nothing more than fodder to find out where the German units were, or wear them down. So in some ways, despite there of course also being heroes in the red army at that time, it was a pretty ugly scene on the Eastern front with 30 million people dying, mostly civilians, families, etc, pretty ugly scar on the consciousness that must have left. Less about heroics when millions are dying around you, you have no supplies, and some soldiers were literally ordered to run at heavily fortified German positions with nothing but fake wood carved into the shape of a rifle.
      Nothing wrong with giving credit to the people who fought the European arena, all the gratitude, and respect, nothing but thank-you for my life as it is. It would be nice also to once in awhile call properly out the sacrifice of all those millions of Russian's so as not to be forgotten, because, without their contribution, the war would have been a very different thing. The battle of Normandy doesn't play out the same if Germany had never tried to take on the Russians. If the 4.5 million Germans soldiers were in Germany when the allied forces landed, that would have been one hell of a force to contend with. And it is likely the UK would have fallen before the US got into the war had Hitler not made the error of attacking Russia. Can't blitzkrieg Russian in winter. Plus if the war took longer, Japan could have been in it while most of our forces were involved in Russia. So yea, Russian's do the heavy lifting, but because they had the majority of German's forces to fight, the Allies were able to get to Berlin faster. And thank god they did, saved how many lives of people in the camps, etc. But your right. Russians sacrifice should not be a side-note. In reality, the majority of the war happened on the eastern front.

    Well, it's not always a zombies that are attacking... massive attack usually starts with hell over the earth artillery barrage and airstrikes. And then when half of you are already dead you can start offering resistance to those who would attack on foot and supported by tanks and ATGM fire.

    For those people who are watching this and saw the section on the Sturmgewehr and when he said how could this have changed the war and couldn't visualize it. Think of the Saving Private Ryan movie when they are in the town with the paratroopers in the rain and the sergeant says he needs to take "this hitchhiker out of my boot" and sits down knocking over the board that knocks over the brick wall that reviels the German squad in the room. there are 8 germans 5 with kar 98k's and 3 with MP-40s (thats 5 bolt actions and 3 full autos) and the Americans with a BAR, a Thompson, a springfield, 2 carbines and 2 m1 garands (aiming anyway) only 2 are fully automatic, yes I understand that the M1 garand and M1 carbine are fire as fast as you pull the trigger, but thats no the point. well anyway imagine the 5 Germans with the Kar 98k's vision them with select fire Stg-44's with 30 or 25 rounds and all they needed to do is pull the triggers and let the lead fly. (Oh and before someone says "well 2 guys with Thompsons killed them all (well killed 5 and wounded 2 or 3), thats not the point its just a realistic visualization to the Stg-44's impact. Hope this was helpful.

    There hasn't been a full auto M16 since the A1, the A3 isn't really used by any infantry units I know of. Didn't you spend episode 1 talking about the limitations of the M16 in room clearing?
    Also, what about the M4? It is perfect for CBQ and was available to troops at the time.

    • @anthonyclark9159
      @anthonyclark9159 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      at the time the m4 wasn't a common weapon issued to marines, and marines were the ones doing the fighting there, with the m16a2. that rifle was not perfect for room clearing and urban combat but it was best widely available option to the Marines at the time.

    • @Excalibur01
      @Excalibur01 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The situation present was If you had to choice which weapon. Meaning, what was available at the time. The M4 was available at the time so if you had the choice...that's the point.
      I've seen plenty of Marines issued with M4s, not a lot and the M16A4 was already phasing out the A2s, even though it's pretty much the same weapon and still sucking in cqb.

    Sturmgewehr would have not made a big change how things went down in WW2. Much more Tiger tanks with better quality, better and more anti-tank weapons and much more field artillery > some real change.

    • @trashpanda314
      @trashpanda314 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      tiger tanks were a total waste of resources. how in the world can you possibly say that the sturmgewehr wouldn't have had a significant impact!? LOL!! the M1 garand enjoyed a massive impact with it's only advantage at the time being it was semi auto. the STG44 was leaps and bounds ahead of any other ww2 small arms. not to mention the change in tactics it would have brought, another overlooked game changer. I don't think you have any real combat experience if you don't understand the massive game changer that weapon would have been if implemented fully in 1942. the STG44 was the model for every infantry weapon to follow, and we still utilize all of it's new technology it introduced today.

      indeed, no one can deny ww2 Germany revolutionized warfare and its still felt to this day. they were excellent warriors in all aspects. only to be defeated by significantly superior numbers, and even with those numbers were still an insanely tough nut to crack all the way to the bitter end of the war.

    well for all those who are wondering this aired in 2008 on FOX sports network so this channel has so few views and subs because most people who have seen this saw it before TH-cam was the mega Giant it is in 2016 when this was posted. Mind you when I type this its 2020 So while this was a quality program for its day. (I even watched this on FOX around the origional air dates) Finding it on youtube is pretty good Nastalgia for me. But something that has been viewed for years before being posted on TH-cam kinda hurts the view count. It does however expose this video to younger people or people who dont watch FOX Sports. So there is a purpose to this and stop being negative. Also this information is still good today and the only thing really dated is the video quality and how it was shot but then again my vids suck super hard and arent as good as this so who am I to critique?

    Just my two cents worth, although this is a great video, I highly doubt that a two man team can repel a "mass attack" of say, 40 people with just a few claymores, two assault rifles and a .50 cal anti-material rifle.
    The two man team could be easily out gunned and out flanked by the enemy, IF they know basic fire-and-maneuver tactics.
    The chances of survival would be increased if you have a third and fourth person manning a 81mm mortar and you position two machine guns, ambush-style, v-shape formation, which will basically create a wall of lead and mow down the enemy faster.
    The claymores are good, but it would even be better if you have several C4 wired up at the designated kill zone.
    Also, it would certainly more helpful if you have anti-armor weapons such as SMAW, AT-4 or JAVELIN.

    Any sensible opponent would have reconnaissance units, and would see where these two were, and their HQ would simply drop a few mortar rounds on their position, or radio their artillery to drop a handful of rounds on them, as for the vehicles, a .50 wouldn't be much good against amour, and you shoot at them with a .50, and they reply with a cannon. Either way Larry and his buddy would be toast and then dead. And as for the BAR, the Bren is a better weapon.

    The barrett is the only successful semi automatic .50 sniper rifle ? What about the Accuracy international AS50 ?

    • @BigBalmerJV
      @BigBalmerJV 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      this show was aired 6 years ago the as50 was only barely being produced at the time. and it still hasn't reached anywhere near the success of the barret

    • @R3dShift
      @R3dShift 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, good to know, but why ? Because the AS50 Is far more expensive or because of a lack of perfomance compare to the barret ?
