This game is by far the best game of my time playing this game with my daughter has been extremely fun she's 5 and I was not much older than she was when I played it for the first time . Retro games are awesome and I have a great appreciation to those who still play them and appreciate them
Wow. I did experience the chain chomp breaking off before, but I didn't realize it was a specific lunge count. I also knew about maybe 2 or 3 others of those, such as the door in the air at 6-1 and the fact that "world 9" existed. The one that has me most curious is actually the first one. If hammer bros in World 1 only drop items on a couple overworld spots, do the bros only ever stop on those spots? If you fight one of them on a different spot, is the chest empty at the end of the fight?
I knew 4. The 1-up special tune happens to me fairly often. The 6-1 sky door was in an old players guide and so was the chain chomp limit. I've also gotten the pipe clip where Mario disappears on occasion. I thought the game soft locked me, but the screen was still scrolling so I imagined he was just invisible and made it to the end.
I feel like the chain-chomp thing is incredibly common knowledge. I also knew about the invisible Mario glitch since that was a pretty old school glitch that you'd see mentioned in old Mario fansites. Though I guess there's a lot of information that's more obscure now since people now only go on like 4 or 5 sites for everything. For instance, you'd be surprised on how many people think the match-two minigame is randomized.
The softlock for killing Bowser with a star was the only one completely alien to me. With the others, even if I didn't know that specific glitch or feature, I understood the mechanics. I read about the sliding Hammer Bro suit before, but didn't know how to trick the game into using it. Despite this, I'm also going to take a few steps back and say you got me with about half of them, even if I did understand how the glitch works.
I actually heard the 1-up/tail swipe jingle once, but tought it was a glitch. Also, i knew about chainchomp and door 4. Stone hammer Mario and hammer on Boom Boom too
One trick I know about Mario 3 is using the whistle to go to repeat levels. It only works on worlds 5 and 6 (you have to start at 5 or 6, and you can only go to 5 or 6), but by repeating those two levels, you can get extra Tanooki and Hammer suits.
10 more? I want infinite more! Sometimes I love learning the little quirks and discoveries people who have put 1000s of hours into games they've played more than the speedruns themselves so I'd love if you imparted your knowledge and experience with us as well as possibly compiling new things discovered about the game, speedrun related or not!
I knew that Chomps would break their chains eventually, but I thought it was based on time and not on how many lunges they did. I knew about the modified 1-up jingle from Retro Game Mechanics Explained. I knew about the 6-1 door because I think it was in the Nintendo Power guide...? I think I knew that the Warp Zone was World 9, or at least I probably noticed it at some point. I knew about the Rocky Wrench airwalk - _I learned it from watching you, okay Dad?!!_
Knew about the chain chop breaking free, airwalking, sliding as Hammer Mario, Grey Hammer Mario, Warp Zone being World 9 and Bob-Ombs flashing color of Mario. Great video
I knew a couple of these but most I did not. The chain chomp one and the sky door in 6-1 were the most surprising. I've played this game all throughout my life and never knew that happened
1:50 Another related fact: With something similar in 7-1, you can get to an area that shows up as something similar to the upper portion of the level with every second row removed, but actually is something else, and by hitting a noteblock there, you can trigger a glitch in the category of the most powerful glitches ever, which is known as ACE (or, more specifically, Total Control ACE, all of which are equally powerful; another ACE in SMB3 is by changing the inputs very quickly, but it's impossible in RTA, although not because of the D-pad restriction)
I knew about the Hammer Bro item tiles, Extended 1UP sound, Chain Chomp breaking free, airwalking on Rocky Wrench, Door 4, 3-9 pipe clip (isn’t that a softlock?), Goomba Shoe Spiny glitch, Hammer Suit sliding, and Stone Hammer Mario softlock. 9/25! SMB3 is one of my favorite games. It was one of the first games I ever played 15-20 years ago, and I’ve seen a lot of its secrets, but it’s so awesome that I can still learn new things about it. Thanks for this video, and I hope I get to see a few more secrets in another video.
@PixelGames: 3-9 pipe clip (that is not a soft lock after the timer time out, just wait 3 minutes and 30 seconds it just takes a really long time to come back down, this is because bellow the level is also above the level.) in the All-stars version you can also do the 3-9 pipe clip, but after a time out it will take 4 minutes and 30 seconds I might have a few seconds off since I don't remember the exact time it take in both case, to get back down, and plus if you scroll all the way to the left you will see a diffrence between does different version that you would not be able to know otherwise.
I knew the chain chomp one, the air walk with sand one, the 6-1 sky door, the warp zone being world 9(pretty obvious if you look at the bar often), and getting sent back in the sky world. The rest are news to me.
I knew about the Chain Chomp. The extended 1-up jingle, World 9, and the Hammer-slide. I'm impressed how much you had here that I'd never heard of! But you probably know this game better than anyone.
I knew about 30 percent of them, some of the others such as 6-5 clip I did not know, also the bomb-ombs using your color, i never noticed that until you just mention it! But overall awesome video, thanks mitch!
I knew about the chain chomp breaking free for sure. The door in 6-1, I knew about it because I saw RaikouRider run Activate All P-Switches category he created.
It was so fun experiencing Mario 3 for the first time back then. Sometimes weird things would happen and you wouldn't be able to replicate them or prove to people what had happened.
I did know about the door in 6-1. Most of the others I had no idea about until people like Mitch started to get into competitive speed running and showing off glitches.
A few other things people don't generally know about Mario 3 is 1. Bowsers hit box is only in his head and fireballs. Small Mario or ducking will avoid damage even when he stomps... So long as he doesn't hit you with a fireball. 2. Whenever you hit a block with a mushroom in it and it seems to go in a random direction. The direction the mushroom initially travels in can be controlled. It depends on which half of the block you hit. The mushroom will go the opposite direction of what side the block you hit. If you hit the block on the left half the mushroom goes right, if you hit it on the right half it goes left. Note: not all mushrooms follow this rule. Some will always go right. Stars can also be effected by this.
I like this video. I like your line delivery, and how you just show everything. No fluff, no nonsense. I knew about the chainchomp, but not the rest of them.
Ten worlds. There is a World 0. It, unnn... basically it is Glitch Gremlin's World. Upon entering, Mario is off-screen and there's no way to move without cheat codes. No tiles go anywhere either. The BGM? Basically, it's the beginning of the Boom-Boom battle on loop. How to get there? Access any invalid tile in world 9. ... I knew about 6-1. It's good for if one needs a lot of coins very fast, but the fortress in Pipe Maze, world 7, is far better.
I knew some of these. I used to think the chain chomp one required you to do a spin with the tail, like taunting a dog until it breaks free sort of deal. Didn't really know it was 50 lunges and power up didn't matter.
This is such a cool video. Something like this really has the potential to go viral mitch, if you have any more ideas like this it's worthwhile to produce them.

I think, and I might be wrong, he means of the item inside the blocks the Hammer Bros stand on
@@128Gigabytes Oh, that makes more sense. I had been wondering about why some Hammer Bros fights can get you another powerup in the ? blocks. Thanks!
1:18 I actually knew this. Idk why….. I just do
How about the weird sound you get if you spam "SELECT" button before the tittle screen resets?
I knew a handful. But some were super interesting. Definitely would enjoy this as a series of videos.
I actually heard the 1-up/tail swipe jingle once, but tought it was a glitch. Also, i knew about chainchomp and door 4. Stone hammer Mario and hammer on Boom Boom too
7:30 not unless I watched the video beforehand.
I knew about the chain chomp one and the World 9. Seeing the tricks with the Hammer Suit, especially the slide, made me smile.
The life bar… It looks a little… off… I don’t know what’s wrong.
Speed running practice ROM. Replaces the usual numbers with key memory locations involved in triggering certain methods.
One trick I know about Mario 3 is using the whistle to go to repeat levels. It only works on worlds 5 and 6 (you have to start at 5 or 6, and you can only go to 5 or 6), but by repeating those two levels, you can get extra Tanooki and Hammer suits.
0:25 I see a poison mushroom. Why is there a poison mushroom in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?
That's a house
Making the Chain chomp fly out of the block only takes a minute
3:20 amazing
I was expecting to know most of them but only knew about the chain chomp and sliding hammer suit. Nice!
The Chain Chomp one blows my mind since it's clearly an intended mechanic. Sorta like waiting for 3 mins in Sonic CD
Knew about the chain chop breaking free, airwalking, sliding as Hammer Mario, Grey Hammer Mario, Warp Zone being World 9 and Bob-Ombs flashing color of Mario. Great video
Cool content. I knew most of ‘em.
To be fair, I did happen to learn some of these from Mitch some years ago. lol.
I knew a couple of these but most I did not. The chain chomp one and the sky door in 6-1 were the most surprising. I've played this game all throughout my life and never knew that happened
1:29 - Me as a child: I knew it was possible!
FANTASTIC content! Your voice is SO soothing too.
I'd LOVE to see more videos like this 😃
i actually knew all of these
I also knew all of them
(After watching this video)
Yes, and floor is made of floor.
I like that when the chain chomp hits Mario, he just stands there like "Bruh. What just happened?"
1:50 Another related fact: With something similar in 7-1, you can get to an area that shows up as something similar to the upper portion of the level with every second row removed, but actually is something else, and by hitting a noteblock there, you can trigger a glitch in the category of the most powerful glitches ever, which is known as ACE (or, more specifically, Total Control ACE, all of which are equally powerful; another ACE in SMB3 is by changing the inputs very quickly, but it's impossible in RTA, although not because of the D-pad restriction)
did you know if you have the TANOOKI suit and you equip a pWing you power up You can now infinity fly as the tanooki
I knew a few of these, but only from the Super Mario Wiki page. Most I didn't know, they were interesting!
That's crazy I play that game for over close to 40 years and never knew none of those it's amazing to see something never-seen-before on those
I knew about 30 percent of them, some of the others such as 6-5 clip I did not know, also the bomb-ombs using your color, i never noticed that until you just mention it!
You are the ONLY person who has "Things You Didnt Know about X" vids that have some stuff I actually don't know.
New sub earned!
6:53 which version of the game is this? I kind of want to play it; I've only ever played the vanilla one
I knew of the sky door in 6-1 back in the early days of the game's release, as well as the slide animation of the hammersuit.
I'm just completely blown away. Super Mario Bros 3 is my favorite video game of all time. I've been playing since 1990. Every few years I learn something I didn't know about it. I'm seriously shocked. Several of these I didn't know. This game continues to amaze me after 33 years.
When I first saw the title, I figured "Oh jeez, another clickbait... how much you wanna bet I know like all of these?", but then I noticed who the uploader was and became waaaaay more intrigued! Glad I did, since I only knew like 3 of these!
2:43 I'm sorry, did Mario just glitch so hard that he stole the Screw Attack upgrade from a Metroid cartridge!? 👀
That's what stars did in SMB3.
@@Hevach Ah, okay. I didn't play the SMB games much growing up. In fact, I think my first Mario game ever was SMW. I never actually grabbed a star during my short time playing the SMB games 😅
I knew about 6-1 and the 9 worlds.
Only reason I gave this a watch is because it was Mitch.
Had it been anyone else I would’ve passed.
I learned 23 new things for SMB3.
Good job.
Knew about the chain chomp because my stupid little buddies and I sat and watched one to see what would happen back when Mario 3 first came out. Also, grabbed a mushroom on the correct frame to get that extended jingle at random once, glad to know what that was about.
The rest of these were new to me, crazy stuff man. Stay Awesome
