The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 is not only considered one of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all time, but some consider it the absolute greatest match to ever take place on inside a wrestling ring. WrestleMania 25 in Houston, TX was the stage, HBK and The Phenom were considered legends ot the business by this point in their careers, and because The Undertaker had never defeated Shawn in a one on one match during his entire WWE run, The Heartbreak Kid was confident that he could end the legendary undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
Shawn Michaels wasn't the only person who wanted to face The Undertaker at Mania 25. On TV, JBL wanted to end the streak too but Michaels made quick work of Bradshaw on Raw. When it was decided that Michaels and Undertaker would take place, Shawn went on a mission to ensure he remained one step ahead of the Phenom. From visiting the graveyard to holding a memorial service for the streak on Raw, HBK got the upperhand before the two stepped in the ring. The build-up to the match though isn't what fans remember though, because the match Shawn and Undertaker had at Mania would overshadow everything leading up to the bout. Put simply, Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25 was a wrestling classic with many fans, critics and wrestlers saying it's the very best pro-wrestling match that ever took place.

The put quite simply... the GREATEST WRESTLING MATCH OF ALL TIME! An All Time Classic. Even the promo was sensational... I'll always say Taker should've retired after the end of an era match cause he had 4 straight BANGERS for Mania matches. Shawn had a run of 7 straight years with the MATCH OF THE YEAR... this kind of heat will never be replicated.

I was born in 92, and my dad hated wrestling. My brother(born in 93) loved watching in secret. My favorite wrestler was The Undertaker l, and my brother loved was HBK. It was the end of an Era for us WM 25/26
Undertaker and Shawn Michaels always had great chemistry and produced some classics in the late 90s but their match at Wrestlemania 25 for me is the greatest match of all time, two true legends at the top of their game going at it at the biggest show of the year and it was not only pure magic but a true wrestling masterpiece. I am glad that i got to see two of my all time favourite wrestlers with my best friend (RIP) as little did i know that this would turn out to be the final Wrestlemania ppv we would watch together but i'm really happy he got to experience the epicness with me.

Everything about this match was a masterpiece. Not only the execution by everyone involved that night (except maybe for the cameraman missing his catch but like the video says, it actually ended up helping the match further), but also the pomo work and the story that was told before the match. People were able to believe that Shawn Michaels might be the one to break the Undertaker's streak because of the story that was told before the match. For the first time in WrestleMania history, none of the Undertaker's usual mind games tactics worked. Shawn was the first guy that was always one step ahead of Taker and never once intimidated by him on his road to WrestleMania. That was just never before seen at this point. Undertaker was always able to psych out his WM opponent before the match at some point but HBK was the first to evade him at every step. It even seemed like Shawn was the one psyching out Taker for once. Again, something that hadn't been done before. So that was a seed already planted in people's mind before we even got to the match. And then of course, the execution of the match was so masterful that the thought of HBK possibly breaking the streak never left people's mind until the final tombstone. Both Shawn and Taker deserved all the accolades that night. They proved they were masters of their craft. Thank you Wrestling Bios for the video.
It had everything
Yea, him hiding under the casket table was especially great. Practical but genius. No one else could’ve been in this role other than HBK, also. Not only because of their own history, but also because HBK had tenure comparable to Taker and therefore was believable when mentally one-upping him in the weeks leading to WM25.
To completely shock the audience so many times is the true art. Both taker and HBK are artists in that ring. Two of the all time best.
I had the pleasure of watching the sequel to this match at WrestleMania 26 live. Whenever these two worked together pure magic was the result. This is the best WrestleMania match of all time in my personal opinion.

For me, this match isn't just one of the greatest matches in the history of Wrestlemania...it's one of the greatest matches in the history of pro wrestling!! This is one of the few matches that, even though I've seen it several times, I'm always on the edge of my seat. The action, storytelling, near falls...everything, it just works. However, I do cringe every time I see Taker miss that dive to the outside. It's a damn miracle that he didn't break his neck or kill himself! Another awesome video, Mr. Wrestling Bios. I'm actually about to pop in my 'Mania 25 DVD and watch this classic, once again, for the... I don't know how many times!
My buddy called me the day of if I wanted to go, he had won tickets on the radio and we made the drive from Austin. Definitely one of my favorite matches and I could never forget their entrances!
Honestly, in terms of long term story telling - HBK vs Undertaker from the ‘07 Rumble (arguably from ‘97) to Wrestlemania 26 is one of the finest ever.
Wrestling Bios once again showing us why we all love wrestling, despite wrestling's best attempts to discourage us.
For me that's true about the E but that's why I stopped watching and enjoy watching AEW.

I saw this match in person and it's still the best match I've seen in person. The energy and atmosphere in the stadium was electric from their entrances to the final bell. Towards the end of the bout, hardly anybody was sitting down in anticipation of who would get the win. Overall an excellent match up.
The crowd expended so much energy and emotion during this match that we forgot that there was a couple more matches left. Crowd was pretty much dead for the remainder of WM.

Never has my mind been so divided in a match. HBK is my all time favourite. I didn't want him to lose but I also didn't want to see The Streak end. Both WrestleMania matches brought me to the edge of my seat.

This is by far my favorite wrestling channel.
This match and his match at Wrestlemania 26 with Shawn Michaels are not only two of best streak matches and Undertaker matches but two of the best wrestling matches ever.
What puts this a cut above mostly all the other great Matches is, on top of it being fantastic as a match on its own, there’s 20 years of history behind it. A lot of other great matches out there but none with that much depth. I only have one match above it.
This is in my opinion the greatest WrestleMania match of all time. It had everything that you ask for in a match. Never get tired of watching this match

I've seen the match and somehow, I'm still on the edge of my seat listening to you recap it.
I remember watching this wrestlemania with my brother, and Michaels is my favourite wrestler, and The Undertaker was one of my brother favourite wrestling, and when Michaels hit sweet chin music for the second time, and then slowly started crawling to The Undertaker, in that moment I start screaming at the TV for Michaels to crawl faster, and trust me watching Michaels crawl to The Undertaker live felt like a lifetime waiting for Michaels to get to The Undertaker, but right before Michaels got to the undertaker, I look back at my brother, and he look like he was about to cry, because both of us for the streak was over, and then The Undertaker kicked out.

It's a companion.. you do great work sir. I love this channel. Please keep up the good work. I know it has to seem hopeless when they are constantly shutting your videos down. In my opinion, this match between HBK and Taker at WrestleMania 25, has got to be on the same grounds as Hogan and Andre at WrestleMania 3.
I wasn't born to see WM3, so for me, this was my match that made me love WrestleMania

Actually both HHH back-to-back WM matches are overshadowed by these two with HBK…honestly it’s kinda hard to not think HHH was trying to one-up HBK by repeating the formula. Either way, all 4 matches were great.

It's astounding that even after all this time, even though I've seen the match and know the outcome, even though you said you can't do justice with a clip video, this still had my stomach in knots, still had me sitting closer to my laptop as if I could absorb it through the screen. Fantastic stuff. Taker and Shawn are guys from my era, but this was several years past when I was watching regularly, so I'd never watched it before. I'm surprised you didn't make more of Shawn getting excited about the prospect of a count out win. I thought that was a great moment, especially if it was improvised.

This match is just legendary!! I remember showing my cousin this match and he wasn't a wrestling fan and he was blown away by this match. That's how good this match is!! You can show a non wrestling fan this match and they will be entertained by it.
The count after the taker botch was brilliant tension building. The last sweet chin music from Shawn was epic the crowd are looking around thinking could this be it!

When it comes to straight 1 on 1 wrestling match, considering how both of them were in their 40s and perform like they were in their prime is remarkable. They proved they could still go at that point, Storytelling and buildup was awesome. Taker up to the match with Shawn had a great classic with Orton, skip the one with Henry, a classic with Batista and Edge in back 2 back manias. Shawn though had a classic with Jericho, HHH and Benoit, Kurt Angle, underrated match with McMahon, classic with Cena and a classic retirement match with Flair at WrestleMania 24.
Their WrestleMania 25 match is the greatest I’ve ever seen and were able to do about just as well in 26. Taker still had great ones up to 2013 against Punk. Could you imagine a WrestleMania match in their prime, my gosh.
1999 might be a good year to take the match place.

I remember watching this live, WM25 had been a bit of a bust until this match, helped salvage the show as a whole and the match left me drained after the three count, in ring story telling at it's finest.
I was there. Drove to Houston from Louisiana by myself, went to the HOF the night before, met a girl, stayed in her room the next two nights and never even checked into the one i paid for lol, watched mania, it was mindblowing for my first time, saw probably the greatest match ever, then went back to her room, smoked a couple more blunts, drank some crown, slept with her again, and then got up around 5 and left without saying anything. got home 4 hours later. great weekend.

There isn't anything I could say about this match that hasn't been said before. It's a true masterpiece in wrestling, a must watch for anyone who considers themselves a fan. It's not just one the greatest matches in WWE, but one of the greatest matches in wrestling period. It's magic that many have tried to match, but almost always come up short because they didn't get what made it magic in the first place. And like you said, no amount of videos or essays can do this match justice, you NEED to watch it. It's free on WWE's TH-cam channel, it's on Peacock, it's easily available.
Yea, it's pretty much the pinnacle of storytelling in professional wrestling. No really crazy spots aside from the moonsault into the tombstone.

Michael's was the best all around performer the industry has ever seen. While, he may have been a better athlete in the 90s and on the Mic. In his comeback, it was his ability to draw a crowd in and tell a story before and during the match. That grabbed the audience and pulled them into the moment. Especially against Flair and undertaker.
