Gm 4106 comes in for some minor air leaks… turns into several days of work.

  • A lot more issues than we originally suspected. The air leaks were all caused by oil contamination from a bad air compressor. A bad parking brake got them the spring brake upgrade they wanted.

My 17 yo son did the toolbox tip a little while back... Sadly it slammed into my project car and caused quite a bit of damage. He came into the house in tears and could almost not tell me what happened until I went out there and saw it. Truth be told I was not even upset at him one bit. It was a pretty dumb mistake that a few people have made. And I am just glad he was not hurt. The car got repaired and the toolbox was replaced. And everything is all good, and is something to chuckle at later in life. He's a good kid that tries to do right by others.

I've done it myself (more than once sadly, usually when I'm rushing) and I've been a mechanic for over 20 years. Good on you for not being too hard on the kid. At least he's out in the shop and learning how to use those tools.

I use to do air brake reconditioning, the amount of times we’ve reconditioned all the spring brakes and valves from trucks to have them bring them all back a week or so later claiming warranties to find they full of oil water or debris, no attempt to find their original problem or even drain their tanks was amazing. Enjoyed the journey with you and liked the update to the spring brake anchor locks. 👍

We have a GM PD-4103 With a Detroit Diesel 6-71. When we were trying to unstick one of the injectors, the little thing with a square that pulls the injector in and out popped right off the injector instead of freeing up the injector. I just shoved it back on. It seems to stay on okay. Have you ever had that happen? Any thoughts? Our bus had not ran in 22 years. It still has 3 stuck injectors. In your opinion do we need to replace the injector that the part came off of? The mechanic we are working with is installing spring breaks for the first time on this 70 year old bus and replacing a leaking air tank that dripped oil when we aired it up.
