Hey guys. Have to agree. Fresh and raw scallops cant be beaten. Kind of like a cashew in flavour but sweeter and saltier. Washed down with a corona off the ice and OMG.
just joined.. great stuff. your respect for the ocean is ace.. great way to eat the native oyster is just place it on a bed of hot coals and let it open itself..great smokey flavour using she oak needles and enjoy straight off the fire.. the best.. we call them oyster fire steaks
Stoked on your Tassie series (I’m local) had you working for the scollies, congrats on gaining your dive times, you have stepped up your editing too, keep it humble legend ✌️
I grew up getting scallops here in Florida. Strict limits on those too. We would go with a big group of friends and basically took some people that didn't even know how to swim just so we could have them on the boat for a bigger bag limit. My dad would eat so many that he wound up with heavy metal poisoning, specifically arsenic. At the time though we had no idea what was causing it. We had friends who owned an old cattle ranch and we thought since arsenic was used to kill the insects on the cows, it had leeched into the water table. That wasn't it. My mom was investigated by the cops! Then poison control finally told us it was the scallops! He was eating about a quart of scallops a day. That was enough. Not sure if that is an issue in your part of the world, but maybe worth checking out sir.
Definitely not in Tassie but damn thats a crazy story sorry to hear that man. Yeah shellfish can be dangerous for all kinds of reasons especially filter feeders they can absorb a lot of nasties
As a fellow Sydney diver, I haven’t been fortunate enough to ever catch my own scallops although I love them so much. Also I’m confused how there were so many oysters just in the sand. I’ve always thought oysters needed a rock or pylon or some sort of structure to grow on and reproduce. And when you said most of these scallops were harvested at 16-18, is that meters, or feet?
New to your channel guys, don’t know why I’ve missed it before… Really enjoying the relaxed approach and look forward to binging your earlier videos. Keep up the good work… P.S.I’m off to the west coast of Scotland next week to hopefully get some scallops and spear some Pollock.
Awesome thank you and welcome to the channel, plenty in the archives and hopefully plenty more to come! Im jealous I can still taste those Scottish Scallops now 🤤🤤🤤
My favorite way to eat scallops besides fried, is to,Sautee them in herb butter, then serve over some linguini. Take some Italian bread and toast it, then soak it in the liquid the scallops cooked in. Serve it with the pasta and scallops. Add just a sprinkle of parmesan romano cheese and a small dash of black pepper.
Haha those oysters were very deceiving! I swear they have taken on the shape of the actual scallop shells…. Never had to work so hard for scallops in my life 😅 lovely video Sam, always bringing back the best memories 😊💙
Hahaha i know! It was like something out of mission impossible. They tore their little scallop mask off and they were oysters all along! Fantastic memories!
In Norway there's scallops almost everywhere. But I only pick them when I can't catch any fish nor crabs, or for other people... I like them a lot, but it's not my favorite thing in the ocean. I much prefer queen scallops. Here they're not even quarter the size of the one in the video, but they're delicious.
Oh wow, I would loveeee to dive Norway. Do you get the invasive king crabs in Norway freediving they look incredible. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel Michal!
The best of the best scallops and oysters
They were incredible!
Bro scallops gotta be hands down one of the best seafoods out there aye!
Mate 2.5 minutes is a huge dive especially when you're actively moving on the bottom. Awesome job!
Thanks man, just stoked to be back diving well!

Loving the vlogs
Thanks 🤙🏼 a bit different but seems to be getting good feedback
It used to be a relatively easy feed in the 5-8m range there, but they have been hammered over the last 5+years very hard sadly. Great vid too
Sad to hear that. Did someone spill the name of the place online?
@@WetMammal spots like this just become common knowledge after a while.
Hands down scallops are the best thing in the ocean ❤
Agreed agreed agreed!

Cheers Toby
Nice one! Those scallops look delicious!
Thanks they absolutely were!
Awsome scallops, what is the thickness of you wetsuit that you use in those colder waters?
Thank you! I used a 3mm bottom with a 5mm jacket and was plenty warm :)
@@WetMammal awesome Thank you, do you think a 3mm wet suit will be warm enough for winter spearfishing wollongong area?
Love Scallops!
Me too man honestly my favourite thing in the ocean
Awesome vid, I miss scallops. Do you know anywhere in NSW to dive for Scallops?
Thanks Alec, unfortunately not man I dont think we have any anymore :(
Fellow diver from Buffalo NY, looks like so much fun. Do you ship to state side? Love your shirt your wearing.

Well done that looked like hard work where l dive it takes about 5 minutes to get 50 and it is only 6 metres deep

Being a Tasmanian, we always cook scallops with their roe on. I also have worked as a scallop shucker.
Ive saved the scallops for a pasta dish 🤤🤤 but scallop roe is an MVP! Awesome! Any tips on speedy shucking?

I've heard of people catching them in pots. But they're not common outside the northern part of Norway. There's plenty of brown edible crabs though.
I probably wouldn’t of made it past the ouster, crumbed and fried would be delicious
🤣🤣 I need to give this a go
Where the crays at thooo
Dropping Sunday!!!
I'm confused. Do you like scallops or not?
Absolutely love scallops! What makes you think we dont?
Where did your filthy mullet go?
hahaha Im back working in Sydney now so have slowly become tamed again.
I gout this funny pain in my big toe.
