It's time for Mat to say farewell to his beloved AMG G63! He's had his hands on the G for a whole year, but Mercedes have asked for it back, so he's reluctantly handed it over.
But after clocking up thousands of miles, coupled with a whole host of drag races and tugs of war, how impressed was he with this imposing SUV? Sure we all know it looks great, and the performance is unquestionable thanks to the 4-litre twin-turbo V8 packed under the bonnet, but is it really worth the monumental £150k price tag?! And if he could afford one, would he buy one himself?!

As someone who lives In England, I cannot say how accurate Matt is with the overtaking scene
It's, Not only in England.
Same here in Australia. Our drivers are literal idiots. Hug the right lane of the motorway. Never heard of keep left unless overtaking. Just a bunch of entitled idiots
Same with Indian truck drivers also. They literally don't move from overtaking lanes. Due to this lot of accidents occurs at high speed.
Same here in indonesia, the stupidity of most drivers and riders are beyond ultimate, hugging the right lane and when we ask them to move over they are very angry when we the one who wants to overtake should be angry to them
supaahflyy he wasn’t on about the motorway, he was on about over taking on single road lanes and going into the oncoming lanes. Thankfully lane discipline is a thing here and those who hog the middle lane can be prosecuted.

I'd think that you "being Carwow" atleast the face of it, the one that built Carwow to what it is today that somebody would pay you enough money so you could easily afford one... What a shame! It's my opinion that you could go off on your own and make what the entire Carwow company makes if not more. If you were to do that, Carwow would be a show of the past and the CEO of Carwow will be the one that couldn't afford a G63.
It's not only about buying this car. The cost to run it is huge. Gasoline, service etc... He probably can afford it but it would be a waste of money.
Couldn't agree with your comment more. Matt has made traditional car review companies such as What Car? and Autocar obsolete. Makes videos interesting despite, me not having the money to afford any of his cars that have been reviewed....

That intro scene was one of the most awesome I’ve ever seen. Had to leave a comment for it. Wow.
Thing about the Highway Code though is that stopping in 53 meters is nice assuming you react to the need to stop in an instant. At 70 mph you travel 40 meters (roughly the difference between HC requirement and what this car can do) in less than 2 seconds. So yeah, modern cars can stop fast, but people need to put their foot down first.

I feel you on so many things with my working van, especially the overtaking. At my company we drive mercedes sprinters and for abroad we use the 319 (3.0L V6 with 190pk and 440nm) and when the van is empty it is proper fast (for a van). So when I overtake people they sometimes get angry. I drive these vans for 3 years and over 100.000 km per year. When I overtake someone, I know goddamn well I can overtake!!!

When mat had his RS4, he always preferred audi infotainment in reviews
When he had his 8 series, nothing was better than iDrive
And when he got his G63, iDrive just wasn’t as good as MBUX
Can’t blame him, it’s near impossible to be completely unbiased, you just know the system better and get used to it so when you use another one it throws you off completely.

There is a general problem in the UK where overtaking on roads is now frowned upon and people get super angry no matter what car you are driving in. Performance, or expensive, cars get +100% hate though.
Yep - people are losing the ability for safe overtaking. I was following a slow cattle van doing 36mph but the car behind that was a BMW M4 that didn't overtake it on an empty, clear road with 60mph limit! On the first clear stretch , I waited for the M4 to go overtake. It didn't. On the next clear stretch I safely went past both in my borrowed 1.0 Citigo! Then after I went past the M4 realised maybe his 400+BHP would allow him to get past and finally overtook!
Tbf people that overtake either have massive egos or have egos and are a complete dicks to other road users. If it’s safe and there’s no danger involved feel free to overtake but you don’t look cool, you look like a knob

Importeer hem uit Duitsland met een beetje schade. Zo omzeil je de BPM die onze overheid op ons forceert. Een beetje schade hoeft niks meer te zijn dan een kapotte airbag, daarna kan je hem weer erop zetten. Verder als je een contact hebt in Duitsland kan je hem ook op Duits kenteken laten zetten

I chose melbourne red on my bmw (with the light interior), yesterday it was the only car of any colour parked in my street, all the others were monotonous versions of grey.
I got my G63 in Rubellite metallic. Great dark red. Didn't want the black on blak alongside the other midlife crisis dads I see playing Russian gangster.

This was a good comprehensive review of things one wouldn’t think about until he/she lives with a vehicle after purchase. For his effort, Mr. Watson get’s a solid “A.” Mercedes gets an “A” for their engineering though at this price, should go the extra mile and address those niggling issues. Regardless, I’d take this G as it is because its amazing.

Almost all the negative points keep it true to its off road identity and capabilities. Im sure if they got power steering and air suspension someone would complain or say its not as good as it could be due to it having the above mentioned.

I used this car for a few days and it is actually a lovely car. However, few of the things I hate about it is that it doesn't have a keyless entry. And controlling the infotainment is not a breeze.

The location of the gear selector could actually be quite cumbersome for people who had the light switch (turn signals, etc.) on that location in their previous vehicle.

Hi Matt, I'm from Manchester but now live in Australia, and enjoy watching your reviews. Can I ask, when you're talking about something, i.e. switch, why the heck do you have to touch everything? The camera is looking at the 3 switches, and you don't point, you have to touch and press!! :) You even touched the tyre in this video as well when talking about the wheels and tyres! We know what the tyre is mate! Apologies if it's your OCD. Love the show, keep em coming!
In general...proper video and i really enjoyed it! but i get a bit frustrated when journalists or people start comparing a proper (but very fancy) 4x4 with SUV's....it is supposed not to go around bends like a Porsche or bmw, it is supposed to have that more vertical windscreen for you to see the comers of the car etc etc...please don't complaining about a car that isn't made for something! This just don't have competitors....because it's supposed to be like a wrangler (regarding performance offroad) but with luxury of all those fancy SUV's!

If I’m honest, he may not of, he did slow down once in the roundabout and did go around it properly so this could be a factor as to why the fiesta got close. It came from out of the shot so it’s hard to tell

It has become obvious that almost all buyers of this car will never take it off-road. The Mercedes AMG G63 is a status symbol and I think it’s only fair Mercedes AMG should create an executive version of this car with options like air suspension, soft close doors and better smoother ride at least give people the option to choose between rough or smooth, that way the car will be true to its usage
The issue with door mounted seat controls is that they can’t fit everything there. So much stuff is in the infotainment system. Also I am a full proponent of column shifters. My car has one and it’s so nice. I have so much space in my center console for food or my dog or a large bottle of hand sanitizer. Granted mine is mechanical not electronic so I can’t just do a quick flick but it’s still closer to my hand
