Welcome to PC gaming, it is not as simple as console but it worth the experience: 1. Always turn off Motion Blur when playing games. 2. If you have high refresh rate monitor, check if you have turned it on. Most people forget about this. 3. You HAVE TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS, Intel 14th gen has known issue of combination of factory defects and microcodes. IF YOU DON'T UPDATE, YOU RISK BRICKING YOUR CPU IN THE FUTURE. 4. For your stuttering in Adobe Premiere, as far as i know, it happens because you buy Core i7-14700F, "F" version is cheaper but doesn't have iGPU. Premiere uses iGPU for encoding and decoding so you won't get stutter. So, either there is a setting in the Premiere so you can off-load the encoding and decoding to RTX 4070 or you must buy CPU with iGPU in it. For Intel, those without "F" at the end means there is iGPU. 5. Turn your XMP on. It is in BIOS setting. Usually, it is only 1 click away. After you save your BIOS setting, there will be "memory training", so you might experience long loading time (black screen) or system turning on and off. It will not happen on next time you turn on your PC. This might be the best "free" performance setting that a lot of people forget to use. 6. Update all drivers: Motherboard drivers, GeForce drivers, Intel Chipset drivers. 7. Do not install 3rd party "RGB controller", it really affects PC performance, unless you really need it. 8. Check your monitor if your monitor has VRR, FreeSync, or G-Sync. Turn it on. After that, check in your Nvidia Control Panel if you have turned on G-Sync or G-Sync Compatible on your monitor. 9. Might be an unpopular opinion but achieving higher frame rate is better than getting those quality up. If you feel your game stutter (an experience when you suddenly "lag"), your setting might be too high. Either reducing the settings or use software trickery called "DLSS". 10. Have fun
And lastly, I just realized that you put your Graphic Card on 2nd slot... First top slot is the best slot for GPU, it usually has more bandwidth and it is reinforced to accomodate heavy graphic card. It might be the reason why you feel stuttering when editing premiere.
@Dominus_Potatus All this help, I could proudly laminate it on the wall. It was an interesting and informative read even for a person with no such problems.
When it comes to tip 8 I would say that you need to check out how well those technologies work with your monitor. I have a Huawei monitor and turning on FreeSync make the image far worse. However Huawei implemented FreeSync is terrible on this monitor.
You should move the GPU to the top PCIe slot because that one has the most bandwidth (usually x16), so you’ll get better performance. The lower slots often have fewer lanes, which can slow down the GPU. Plus, the top slot is better for airflow and is usually reinforced for heavier cards. Cheers!

Recently stumbled upon your videos thanks to the switching to Android ones -- you (and your wife) make honest, real-world use-case scenarios for adapting to new technologies and this new video is just another one of those. Here's to trying new things and being realistic about expectations!
I built my first PC back in June and I've used and work with Macs for 12 years. I'm super proud of myself but seeing a huge graphics card and still calling it "card" still makes me chuckle, lol! Great video, you guys and your daughter is too cute!
YOOO NICE BUILD! HOWEVER, install your latest motherboard drivers because these new intel chips have been literally dying because of the power running through the chip. SERIOUSLY UPDATE YOUR MOTHERBOARD BIOS IT WILL SAVE YOU FOR THE FUTURE!
Are those fans place in the right orientation where you have proper airflow? You want to have some fans to intake air the other ones outtake the air. They all look like they are pushing air out and not in, potentially choking the components and letting them overheat. Also, be careful with the a cable and the fans making contact. nice video btw.
Make sure you put some thermal paste on that CPU, not sure if I saw any. I built my first PC a few years back and like you said it is DAUNTING especially when youre dealing with thousands of dollars worth of delicate parts and have no idea what youre doing. But like any skill, with the amount of research and guidance that we have on the internet and youtube nowadays its really not so bad. Great video
Building a PC is like creating a custom motorcycle or a car, you know exactly what you need and it forces you to kind of KNOW your PC and be more involved with your PC, when something breaks you can repair it yourself and not to mention the amount of customization options you can get.
Congrats on switching from mac to PC! I've done the same and the editing is way quicker. The main reason why editing is slow is because your CPU doesn't include igpu, which is the encoder/decoder like your m1 max has. That's what makes your timeline smooth if you have the igpu. Easiest way to differentiate is the last character on your CPU (Intel). If it's F, means there isn't included igpu, if it's K behind, there will be igpu within. 👍🏻👍🏻
The PC does, for that you need a non-F CPU to ultilize the Intel Quick Sync technology. Intel F variant CPU is purely for gaming and other cpu intensive tasks.
It’s great that you have a shop with all the peripherals where there are no sales agents bothering you. In my home country, before you can even enter a shop, there would be at least 3 to 5 salespeople bombarding you with sales talk and you don’t have the same freedom to browse and get these components same as as you do here. Haha!
Graphics card on slot 2? If both your GPU slots are the same bandwidth it shouldn't matter however, usually the first lane (slot) is the fastest slot for the graphics card! Build looks super sweet! What an awesome family project! You gotta build one for the wife and for the kids :)
Please do your cable management and put the graphics card in the top pcie slot. Also don't forget to enable ray tracing and dlss on games to boost framerate.
If you shoot H.265 10bit 4:2:2 its better to get the Intel processors with iGPU's. They help with Hardware Acceleration in Davinci Resolve which will give you very smooth playback. Tech Notice on TH-cam talks about it.
You have an F version CPU which doesn't have integrated graphics. This integrating graphics is responsible for decoding h.264/h.265, nvidea gpu simply can not decode it properly (you can read about it online) If you had gone with the K version without the F, it would've been butter smooth.
