Basics of boxing: You can punch your opponent with a closed fist, no open hand strikes or strikes of any kind other than the gloves fist Can’t hit behind the front of a person like the back or the back of the head Win rounds through effective aggressiveness, punches landed, and ring generalship Winner of a round wins 10 points the loser gets 9 points automatically (perfect score is 120 points after 12 rounds) If you get knocked down to the ground you lose the round and you lose an additional point so you have 8 points to your opponents 10 Highest score wins if your opponent doesn’t get Knocked out or knocked down and doesn’t make it to the 10 count (not a ten second count btw) Ask any questions
Another criminally underrated gem Boxing 🥊 movie is the 1992 " Gladiator " with Cuba Gooding James Marshall Brian Dennehy Good story fights and soundtrack I'm so surprised it's overlooked with no reaction
Butkus the dog thought "Nope too early and cold to go out running. I'm not training to have my face beat up so you go, and don't let the heat out as you leave."
We celebrated our 200th Birthday in 1976 for a whole year. That is why Apollo was dressed as George Washington and Uncle Sam at the fight. P.S. I don't think they realized his Girlfriend was the *Sister* in the Godfather.
The Rocky franchise is NOT a "boxer movie". It is a LIFE STORY of someone who just happens to have a career as a boxer. His "professional life" does have important points to go over, but it is his life OUT of the ring that is focused on more than anything else.
35:40 that's Saline; saltwater medicine. Basically it dries out your nose and helps to reduce swelling and bleeding during the fight. Also, they're putting vaseline under his eyes to help absorb sweat and reduce swelling so the fighter can see better. Later in the fight Rocky has his cutman slice his swollen eye open to allow the blood and swelling to escape so he can open his eye and see better. Also, they tape the fighters' hands very tightly so they 1, don't break their hands, and 2, along with their gloves it helps to lessen the impact of each individual punch. In theory, you're not trying to kill the other guy. You're trying score points in the eyes of the judges by landing clean, unblocked punches to your opponent. The referee has the right to stop the fight if you're bleeding too much or if he feels you are no longer able to defend yourself.
the run up the steps was by accident - not planned - just a suggestion as they drove around in the van looking big for Philadelphia sites to film the training...
So in a split decision, both fighters are still standing at the end of the match and the judges decide who won based on their fighting performance. The number of times you've knocked down your opponent and other factors can affect the decision. Because Apollo and Rocky didn't get knocked out, Apollo technically won from outperforming him. Rocky was just happy to go the whole match because no one had ever accomplished that against Apollo Creed before, that's what he meant by "going the distance." So even though he didn't win, he proved that he was tougher than any other boxer to ever face creed even though Rocky had never fought in a professional match before. The reason Rocky asked Mickey to cut his eye was because it was so swollen he couldn't see. When you cut and bleed a bruise, the swelling goes down.
You should definitely watch the other Rocky movies. One thing I have found to always be true: the more Rocky movies people watch, the more they grow to love Rocky. I know you would like Rocky 2 and 3 a lot.
Sylvester Stallone tells the story on his Instagram of being so poor in the early 70s that he couldn't afford to feed his beloved dog Butkus, and sold him to a stranger in front of a 7-11 for $40. He was cast in one major picture, _The Lords of Flatbush (1974),_ but times were still rough. He went to California, and one evening attended a fight between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, who went the distance with the champ, and actually knocked him down at one point. Stallone saw this as a metaphor for life, and wrote the first draft of the _Rocky_ script, 90 pages, in 3 days. While at an open casting call for another part, he realized he wasn't right for it, but asked the producers to look at his script. At first, they were going to pay him $360k for it, as long as he wasn't the lead actor (they wanted a known actor for safety at the box office). He insisted, even though he'd been forced to sell his dog and had only $106 in the bank. They eventually relented, giving him $1 million (a very low amount even for the 70s) to make _Rocky._ One of Stallone's first moves was to track down the guy who'd bought Butkus! The fellow knew he was desperate and charged him $15,000, which Stallone gladly paid, and even gave the guy a bit part in the movie. So the onscreen love between Rocky and Butkus was real. And but for the movie, Stallone might never have seen his 4-legged friend again. Sadly, Butkus' breed, bull mastiff, typically lives only 8-10 years. Butkus lived 12, from 1969 to 1981, the last 6 of which happily -- as a Stallone!
the trainer did not cut his eye but he cut his eyelid to release blood so Rocky could see, yeah it is a brutal sport my uncle was a boxer and he gave and took some beatings, he loved to box..
Rocky initially said no to the fight because, as he says, he's a ham-and-egger, a guy who is at the bottom of the pecking order, paid enough to buy some food, "ham and eggs", but not a prizefighter. Boxers usually have to work their way up, winning bouts with ever-better opponents, climbing the ladder. Rocky was savvy enough to know for him to be offered to fight the champ, without having worked his way up, means a gimmick fight, and for Apollo to make it a title fight was an insult. And technically, Rocky is too small to fight in the Heavyweight class. He's several pounds underweight.
I LOVE IT THAT IN JUST ABOUT EVERY REACTION TO ROCKY PEOPLE COMMENT ABOUT THE CONVERSE SNEAKERS/TENNIS SHOES!! 😝😝😝 WELL, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE WAS A TIME WHEN CONVERSE WAS ALL WE HAD IN THE WAY OF "SPORT SHOE"!! YOU WORE CLEATS FOR FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL AND CONVERSE FOR EVERYTHING ELSE!! PRETTY MUCH UP TO THE 1980's!!
12:31 The thing I enjoy most when women don't know about this film is when they laugh and say it's a love story....then by the end of the film, to their surprise, they find out that YES, its actually a love story. The boxing is only incidental.
31:32 the song is famous because of this film. Once you watch the first 4 films of the series, you'll start remembering many references in SO MANY other movies and tv shows. This film series is iconic.
29:31 this is just one of the scenes in which we can see that this film is not only about Rocky gaining self-confidence and a sense of worth but also the same is true for Adrian.
Boxing used to be this brutal, but with all the head injuries they changed the rules a bit, there are 10 rounds instead of 15, and the referee can stop the fight if it’s getting to brutal or the manager throws in a white towel which signifies that they give up
Rocky 5 is the weakest of the film series, that is true, however there are still some great scenes in that film. And its still better than a lot of other films that are considered good.
This is one of the first movies that wins an Oscar where the lead is someone speaking English-as-a-second-language. Stallone's first language is inarticulate yelling. English is his second. Bravo!
Everyone acts surprised when Rocky initially says 'no' to the offer to fight Apollo. According to the film, none of Apollo's opponents had ever manage to last the entire fight against him, and he hadn't even been knocked down in his professional career. A guy with a record/history like Rocky's going into a fight with a man like that, he stands a fair chance of getting seriously injured. Possibly killed.
Nobody won by knockout it went the distance so the fight goes to the judges. There's 3 judges 2 of them scored it for *Creed* 1 scored it for *Rocky* meaning *Creed* won by split decision. But *Rocky* went the distance with the champ also the first to knock the champ down
And for the record, Converse Chuck Taylors suck as running shoes. They're just canvas with thin rubber soles. They provide very little cushion or protection when you're running. "Look how he's dressed like a pimp!" Apollo is dressed as Uncle Sam, an American propaganda cartoon figure that was prominently used during World War II as a recruitment tool and to drum up public support for the war. He was commonly seen on posters, wearing a red-white-and-blue top hat and tailcoat, pointing outward at the viewer with text saying "I WANT YOU FOR THE U.S. ARMY". His name "Uncle Sam" was derived from the initials "U.S.", short for "United States". Ever since, he's been associated with American patriotism, and the name "Uncle Sam" is still used as a nickname for the federal government.
I always thought this film was a great father and son tale. When you watch the scene of Mickey at Rocky’s apartment, yes you can read into that as an opportunist, but I always thought that Mickey really cared for Rocky, but became disappointed in his life choices. The fight offer is his chance at reconciling and trying to keep this kid he’s watched for 10 years from getting taken advantage of and thrown away like he did.
THANKS for reviewing this and getting back to movies. there are 4-5 more in the rocky series but this one is the best IMO. please react to the following great movies....road to perdition, rainman, psycho ( 1960), planet of the apes ( 1968), twister, and scarface. THANKS!!,
Rocky didn't win. In the movie Rocky "went the distance" with Creed because they both fought every round and neither of them got knocked out or stayed down. Because Rocky and Creed were both standing at the end of the fight it went to three judges. It was a "split decision". One of the three judges said Rocky won and two of the three judges said Creed won. Creed won but he nearly lost. the point of the movie is that Rocky fought him until the very end and never stayed down. Creed didn't take Rocky seriously but Rocky proved that he was good enough to stand in the ring with him. Even if he wasn't as talented as Creed he had the determination and will power to become good enough to nearly beat him. How close was it? Creed was close to getting knocked down when the last round ended. Had he fallen Creed would've lost, either through knockout or points. Safe to say Rocky shook him to his core.
One of the best lines in the whole series is at the end of Rocky III: Apollo to Rocky "You're a great fighter, but I fight great!" I think this is the heart of the matter. Apollo is the better technical fighter, but Rocky has a willpower that's hard to conquer.

The color of shorts matters as it often reflects your country of origin and has a lot of pride tied to it. It mattered to Rocky, but the promoter could care less because Rocky was just there to ‘put on a show’ and not have a real fight.
Wrestlers go through the same emotional roller coaster ride as boxers like Rocky do. The biggest difference between boxers and wrestlers is boxers use their fists, wrestlers don't. Unless they're with WWE.
Btw, you are right about managers telling fighters to stay down to rest.. Usually till the 8 or 9 count.. But I think Mickey wanted him to stay down to save him any more punishment..
You guys *have to* watch _"Rocky II"_ ... Rocky re-fights Apollo (& it's even _more_ epic!), and the Rocky-&-Adrian love story *continues!* You two are *guaranteed* to absolutely _love_ the Rocky series ... despite the pain! Although _"Rocky IV"_ is definitely painful to watch - but it's worth it! (For both the fighting scenes _and_ the love-story!) P.S. - it's interesting that you found the scenes of Rocky punching the sides of beef to be so ... disturbing? ... ugly? disgusting? It's actually good training; punching a solidly-built guy feels similar to that, so you get used to it. Used to both the simple sensation, and the pain of repeatedly punching something that firm, 'cause after 50 or 60 punches your hands start to get sore ... after 150 or 160 - either your hands get numb, or they're so _very_ sore that you have to concentrate hard to get through it; either way it's tough to keep your fists balled-up.
10:14 A whole number of people "discovered" America, before Christopher Columbus. But popular folklore is the Columbus discovered it, since that's the one that "stuck" in the minds of Europeans. Asians crossed the Bering Strait probably 20,000 years ago or so, becoming the first people to truly settle the land. Polynesians may very well have made it to the Americas. But most of American history is from the perspective of Europeans. From Europe, the Vikings, under Leif Erikson, found North America, but that knowledge wasn't widespread and may have mostly died with their settlement. In terms of putting the New World on the map for Europeans, Christopher Columbus was pretty important. An Italian by birth, but working for the Spanish, Columbus sailed his ships to the West hoping to find a new trade route to India/China. Finding land, the thought he had found India, which is why the native people living there were called...Indians. So, basically, Columbus not knowing where he was, lead to the native people being called the same name, Indian, as people from half the world away, for hundreds of years! But in common parlance, to most Europeans of the time and for most of American folklore, Christopher Columbus "discovered" America, when he landed in the West Indies islands in 1492.
great reaction video - thank you - Rocky lost the fight by split decision (2 judges for Creed and 1 for Rocky) but he went the distance and won the girl...so in the end he won...a love story live you say at the end...bravo!

@25:20 "He doesn't want to give her sperm". That's the best summary I've ever heard of that entire scene.
Basics of boxing:
You can punch your opponent with a closed fist, no open hand strikes or strikes of any kind other than the gloves fist
Can’t hit behind the front of a person like the back or the back of the head
Win rounds through effective aggressiveness, punches landed, and ring generalship
Winner of a round wins 10 points the loser gets 9 points automatically (perfect score is 120 points after 12 rounds)
If you get knocked down to the ground you lose the round and you lose an additional point so you have 8 points to your opponents 10
Highest score wins if your opponent doesn’t get Knocked out or knocked down and doesn’t make it to the 10 count (not a ten second count btw)

Another criminally underrated gem Boxing 🥊 movie is the 1992
" Gladiator " with Cuba Gooding James Marshall Brian Dennehy
Good story fights and soundtrack
I'm so surprised it's overlooked with no reaction
3:02 Sylvester Stallone, to this very day, *still* has those turtles.
So glad you reacted to Rocky. One of my favorite movie series.
31:30 Yes, the song is from Rocky and it was nominated for Best Original Song at the 49th Academy Awards.
31:46 "how he loves his girlfriend. it's super cutie." 🥰
it's a love story ❤️
The steps Rocky runs up and down,is an art museum in Philadelphia.
the trainer did not cut his eye but he cut his eyelid to release blood so Rocky could see, yeah it is a brutal sport my uncle was a boxer and he gave and took some beatings, he loved to box..
WELL, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE WAS A TIME WHEN CONVERSE WAS ALL WE HAD IN THE WAY OF "SPORT SHOE"!!
YOU WORE CLEATS FOR FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL AND CONVERSE FOR EVERYTHING ELSE!! PRETTY MUCH UP TO THE 1980's!!
5:16 "cozy and friendly". yep, that's Philadelphia in the 1970s. 🙂❤️
I'm wondering if anyone told them that Sylvester Stallone not only starred in the film, but also was the writer of the film.
29:31 this is just one of the scenes in which we can see that this film is not only about Rocky gaining self-confidence and a sense of worth but also the same is true for Adrian.
35:45 that is a nasal spray that opens up the sinuses so that the fighters have maximum oxygen available during the fight.
44:02 I've watched this part of the video over and over.... and laughed so hard I fell out of my chair, LOL
I love the girl on the left.. AT 28 minutes.. she says "He's not taking seriously his opponents" .. THATS WHEN I LOVED HER !
Boxing used to be this brutal, but with all the head injuries they changed the rules a bit, there are 10 rounds instead of 15, and the referee can stop the fight if it’s getting to brutal or the manager throws in a white towel which signifies that they give up
There is 12 rounds in a professional boxing match in some cases it can be 4,6,8 or 10 though.
I love the way Michelle says turtle. It’s adorable 😊
The"steps"he runs is an art museum.
Rocky is such a great movie!! Rocky did lose the match, but he went the distance.
Oh! So excited! I recently was thinking that Ellie hasn't gotten to Rocky yet. I'm going to watch it right now!
FUCK YEAH!!!! The Rocky Saga is my favorite ever!! (you can skip 5) lol ... watching these will make the Creed movies SO MUCH BETTER!!!
Rocky 5 is the weakest of the film series, that is true, however there are still some great scenes in that film. And its still better than a lot of other films that are considered good.
Not really it shows how much he grows as a trainer
36:20 "she loves him so much." 🥰
it's a love story 🥊❤️❤️
This is one of the first movies that wins an Oscar where the lead is someone speaking English-as-a-second-language. Stallone's first language is inarticulate yelling. English is his second. Bravo!
You’ve obviously haven’t heard Stallone in interviews. He’s quite articulate and smart.
@@JedHead77 It was a joke, my man. Smile, it's Monday!
@@amara139 You smile on Fridays, not on Mondays.
@@JedHead77 We just can't agree on anything, I guess!
The actress is Talia Shire the sister of Francis Ford Coppola. She is also in "The Godfather" series.
But *Rocky* went the distance with the champ also the first to knock the champ down
25:40 rocky says sorry 🥰
it's a love story 😆❤️🥊
And for the record, Converse Chuck Taylors suck as running shoes. They're just canvas with thin rubber soles. They provide very little cushion or protection when you're running.
"Look how he's dressed like a pimp!"
Apollo is dressed as Uncle Sam, an American propaganda cartoon figure that was prominently used during World War II as a recruitment tool and to drum up public support for the war.
12:33 - Yes, it is a love story.
The reason nobody wants to fight a "south paw" is because when they give body punches it's on the right side where the liver is.
THANKS!!,
Fighters breath out of their noses. That’s a nose clearing spray if they breath through their mouths while fighting, they get a broken jaw.
Apollo is the better technical fighter, but Rocky has a willpower that's hard to conquer.
well about time! ❤️🎭🥊🥰
thank you patreons 👍🏼✅
Her: Rocky won! He beat the champion! Me: *sweats nervously*
HOMMIES, you have to watch the entire catalog of the Rocky movies, they just keep getting better. But please don’t wait that long.

@@chandie5298 Did it ever occur to you that the response was directed at statement that the movies in the series keep getting better?
@@Joe-tm2qp nope, that didn't occur to me at all. I may have interpreted it wrong.... wouldn't be the first time. Thanks for the heads up.
EDIT: If that was the case then I'd agree... my favorite 2 of the series are Rocky and Rocky 2
@@chandie5298 Agree. 1 & 2 are the best. The first film is a classic and arguably the best film but over the years, I think I’m starting to prefer the second.
south paw...south Jersey....such a classic line of dialogue
The color of shorts matters as it often reflects your country of origin and has a lot of pride tied to it. It mattered to Rocky, but the promoter could care less because Rocky was just there to ‘put on a show’ and not have a real fight.
Rocky is not a boxing movie, it's a great love story about a boxer.
HOLLYWOOD used to be on top about masterpieces in the 70's ; now It's locked. RIP Stallone.
You guys *have to* watch _"Rocky II"_ ... Rocky re-fights Apollo (& it's even _more_ epic!), and the Rocky-&-Adrian love story *continues!*
You two are *guaranteed* to absolutely _love_ the Rocky series ... despite the pain! Although _"Rocky IV"_ is definitely painful to watch - but it's worth it! (For both the fighting scenes _and_ the love-story!)
His first words after going the distance “ where’s your hat?”
One of the guys singing on the street corner is Sylvester Stallone,s brother frank.had a hit song called"far from over".
Those"steps"he runs are to an art museum.
Now they're ready for "Mr. Mom" with Michael Keaton, Terri Garr and Martin Mull. LOL! "Let's go monkeys! MOVE!" They gotta see "The Wubby."
